Fast and efficient... Located in the Airport Commercial Center a place many literally grab and go in the busy work mornings I can see why many come here to grab their plate lunch. With one of THE largest breakfast menu I've ever seen I'm quite impressed with how this express cranks it all out so fast. Keeping it simple I got the breakfast plate #2 which gives you two eggs and two meats (Bacon, Ham, Hot Links, Lil' Smokies, Longanisa, Luncheon Meat, Link Sausage, Portuguese Sausage, Spam or Vienna Sausage) and starch (white or brown rice/white or wheat toast) or for additional +$2 fried rice or hash browns. Upon ordering she says 10 minutes...okay...done in like three lol! Condiments are right beside the counter self serve with everything the locals crave I did grab one of six tables here which was nice to enjoy a hot breakfast as the hash browns was freshly made not frozen as this cozy place does have that express vibe but for those that have time can chill as well. They do conveniently open early at 5:30 with the exception of Sunday at 7am but do close early so get your cravings here as they probably have it and can make it faster than you can finish your review. This quaint little shop on Nimitz delivers a constant flavor stream to everyone in the area. Daily specials that you don't want to miss. Friendly and courteous staff always on alert. They served delicious food to me faithfully for many years (almost 10 now since I worked in that area wow)! Today I got a simple katsu all rice and corn chowder. The katsu is perfectly brown. It doesn't fall apart. The sauce it comes with is unique but also familiar. It taste so damn good on the rice. The corn chowder is still tongue burning hot after 40 minutes. Creamy and flavorful. Great place to get food before or after flight. Just right outside the airport is a local mom and pop restaurant serving Hawaiian food with a Filipino twist. The portions are huge for the price and you won't be hungry afterwards guaranteed. This place has a few tables inside and they were all occupied by other patrons enjoying their meals. Some are tourist and some are locals which you know it's pretty good to attract everyone and the line sometimes out the door to order and to pick up. The food is all cooked to order with a huge selection to pick from. I got the joes locomoco and it was delicious. Little different from their normal loco moco as it had corn beef instead and bacon. The fried rice they used was as delicious on its own. Definitely a good recommendation by our friends as this now our favorite spot near the airport to grab food when we land or to go for our trip home. My 2nd visit here, the plates we ordered were oh so good (even tho it was "basic" breakfast food). Located on Nimitz, lots of easy parking. Small but clean space with only 4 tables, so you gotta get lucky or you can always take out too. The lady that helped us was very nice even though it was busy. I noticed some customers came in and the staff knew alot of them on a first name basis...to me that equals good food (enough to return multiple times) and attentive staff. There was a sign stating a new price increase starting January 2025...no problem. Happy to support a local business that produces quality eats (versus going to the IHOP down the road, right?). Food was made quick despite it being a busy Sunday morning. Veggie omelette (sans cheese) was hefty (3 eggs) and gooooood. And french toast was yummmmmmmy too (2 pieces may be too tiny for some, but a perfect amount for us). My daughter throughly enjoyed the crispy bacon. On a previous visit we got breakfast burritos, that was winners too. I haven't tried any of their lunch plates yet, but will return soon, their good service warrants it. read more

If you're starving after a long flight from the mainland, and don't want to spend a fortune but just want to grab something fast, you could do a LOT worse than Joes. I ordered Loco Moco and got a HUGE portion which was unbelievably filling. The strip mall location was a quick 5 minute ride from the rental car center at HNL and probably no more expensive than big box fast food, but a lot better and of course, with local flavor. Super efficient and friendly service, and while the food was 3.5 stars, I bumped it up to a well deserved 4 given the portion size and the great staff. Mind you, this is by comparison to other drive-inn, diner-y plate lunch sorts of places in the same category. Not comparing to a steakhouse or Nobu hahaha! read more

Today I stopped by to try out their late breakfast and I ordered 2 eggs and spam and rice plate and "WOW" they gave a good quantity. Normally other places give 2 slices of spam but I got 4 good slices of spam and 2 big over easy eggs and good amount of rice that got me full once I finished and it only cost me $9.95 with tax included. The reason why i dont tip before i get the food. I placed my order and i watch how many people order after me. One order not a big deal 2 orders for a small kitchen big deal. Big kitchens has alot of chefs. Small mom pop places not enough room. My order was a basic breakfest plate with a burrito added on. My expectations must be higher than some of the previous reviews. I gave it one star because I couldn't go any lower. Had the roast beef/mash potatoes and the katsu curry plates. Both plates were horrible. The roast beef looked like thin sliced shawarma meat-dry and tough. The curry is different from what we're used to and the katsu was a meh. If I have to say something nice-the broccoli was good. We've had quite a few of their lunch specials and have never found them special. read more

The place itself is very small maybe about 4 or 5 tables on the inside and one outside. Honestly the chicken Katsu was underwhelming and for the price $14 I feel like I got ripped off with the amount of chicken I got inside the plate. The picture that was taken was exactly how I got the plate. Def. Not worth the price. But all in all the cashier was very helpful when my card wasn't going through, she was very patient. After my colonoscopy (and not eating real food for almost 2 days) I was craving the pork adobo omelette fried rice from here. We weren't anywhere nearby, but we called in the order and picked it up and it was so good. Of course it's better if you eat it fresh dine-in but I looked terrible and I had been up all night so I just wanted to eat this and kanak. And so I did. There are so many other great choices here for breakfast and lunch but the adobo is the best, it's not dry and not too vinegary, it's just perfection. Found this place on Yelp. I had an early morning seminar close by and was looking for a breakfast place. Staff Sharla and others greeted me as I walked in. They were very polite and made me feel comfortable. It had a real mom and pop feel. It was steadily busy, and it seemed like everyone knew them. I had the Fried Rice Loco Moco breakfast plate. They actually made a mistake and served it with white rice instead. She was very apologetic and made me a side order to go. Perfect for my lunch now, lol. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the hamburger was very tasty with gravy all over. The hamburger patty was homemade and not airy. It was thick and solid ground beef. I arrived to Honolulu after an 11 hour flight and was in search of a quick eat near the airport when Joe's Grill Express popped up. Intrigued by all the rave reviews, I ventured of the terminal to check it out and am so glad I did. I tried their loco moco, which was so hearty and filling- like the food equivalent of a warm hug. The gravy was especially yummy. The regular portion is huge and can easily be split into two portions. The standout here is the service-- I arrived right when they were closing and got caught in a flashstorm between the airport and their restaurant, and the lovely staff gave me towels to wipe off and let me enjoy the piping hot meal in the dining room while they cleaned up for the day. My friend picked me up brunch the other day and I must say, this place is a hidden gem! I recently saw this place on a local YouTubers channel and knew I had to try it! My friend and I both got the Ube French Toast ($9.50) add on eggs and your choice of meat for $3.50 more! Eggs, bacon, and French toast for $13?! That's unheard of in Hawaii! The French toast came with 2 thick slices of sweet bread and had ube inside and a sauce on top. The bread was fluffy and sweet with the ube being subtle and not too sweet. I got scrambled eggs and 2 slices of bacon. It was the perfect amount of food. I definitely want to go back and try the other French toast flavors. They do have a HUGE menu serving both brunch and lunch items as well as daily specials. They also make it super easy to order in advance through their online ordering system! The breakfast food I bought was great on October 28, 2023 after I dropped off my husband to the airport. I had a breakfast plate with fried rice, scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. The service is fast and great also bought a coffee made my own way which was great tasting. The ambience is chill in there and you can either take it to go or eat inside. I enjoyed my food so much I had half my plate left so my momma woke up and enjoyed some breakfast herself she really liked the food . I'll be back again since I live Kalihi now very soon. read more
