Our latest experience was with Matt Gagnon to get an estimate for a whole house humidifier system installed. He was very knowledgeable and provided the right solution for our circumstances! He didn't try to over-sell or up-sell, he gave us the right advice and now we're going to have them come out and do the work in a few days (they have to order the unit). Just another in a very long string of positive experiences we've had with John C. Flood! My late husband and I worked with Climate Heating and Cooling for 44 years. They were always there for us and, if needed, went beyond the line of duty to help. Unfortunately, John C. Flood bought them out but failed to acquire Climate's values, especially customer relations and honesty. When I phoned, a few months ago, to make an appointment, they were very fast to offer me "a membership" that would give me so many benefits. And they promised the best service. Since then, I had an electrician come to check the attic fan. He arrived two hours after the scheduled window and promptly turned off all the switches in the attic including the power switch to my Verizon Fios system which caused a mess that took Verizon two weeks to completely fix. Then a technician came to check on the air conditioning units. He was also two hours late and I had to cancel him because it was too hot to go up to the attic. So, he had to come the next day. An excellent technician, Francisco Toledo. Did a good job on checking everything. However, nobody from the company alerted me to have new filters (Climate always brought filters, charged me something for them, but never for installing them, which is a nothing job, except that at my age, I no longer climb up to the attic). But, now I had to order the filters, they sent Francisco back to install them and charged me $165 for something that should have been part of the regular maintenance. Francisco also gave me an entire estimate of repairs, improvements and upgrades that he highly recommend I do, to the tune of thousands of dollars. Following this unpleasant experience of them charging me for installing the filters which should have been part of the annual maintenance, I doubt, very much, that I shall do any further business with John C. Flood once my current maintenance agreement expires. This is not the way to treat customers. read more

The service representative was excellent at performing the requested repair of a leaking outdoor faucet. However, the cost was RIDICULOUS. The estimate was $1021, but he did the repair in 45 minutes. I didn't do my due diligence by getting a competing estimate. After talking with another plumber after the repair had been completed, I was told that it should have cost no more than $500. I'll never use John Flood Plumbing again. The experience reconfirmed my failure to get competing estimates. read more

John C Flood, an HVAC company, responded when our boiler suddenly failed leaving us with no heat or hot water. I gave the JC Flood techs 5 star reviews because of their troubleshooting skills and they showed up on time. Their proposed repair included a $2,000 surcharge to immediately get the $500 part they said was "was generally not readily available for weeks" or $18,800 to completely replace our fairly modern boiler. I researched the failed part availability and found where they could get it the next day from a quality HVAC part supplier. They apparently were interested in repairing only if they could significantly increase the cost to us. They then ghosted us by not returning calls. I have lowered my review to 1 star because the company was interested in repair only if they could tack on a $2,000 surcharge based on the deception that the part was not readily available or sell me an entirely new system for almost $19K. read more

Had installation of hot water heater service performed February 24, 2026. The technician showed up half an hour after the scheduled time of 8am. Once the technician showed and explained the process things seemed to be ok. However, the technician by the name of Carlos declined to inform us that there were any issues with spacing even after taking the initial measurements and quoting an estimate during our consultation which occurred one month prior. In fact, he made it a point to inform us that he has dealt with tighter spaces and assured us that he was able to perform the task failing to mention any possibility of alterations. He attempted to willfully conceal what he did by hiding the materials he removed to another corner of my basement where at first glance it wasn't obviously visible without having to look for it. I never gave consent to this compromise. Unfortunately, once complete, I discovered the technician removed a couple 2x4 vertical studs damaging the drywall which exposed the nails and split the wood in the process. This in turn raises a safety concern along with the mess and work supplies left by the technician. I immediately contacted JC Flood (Alexandria location) the same day and was connected with their plumbing general manager Pat. I informed him of the structural damages to my property. He informed me he would speak to the technician Carlos about the situation to review the photos and get back with me to make things right. However, since then it's been a complete nightmare. It's been almost two months; the manager never got back to me about a resolution and the company has been avoiding my calls after making numerous attempts repeatedly and consistently getting brushed off. In fact, I have called so many times, the customer service reps became familiar with me This has been such an annoying yet frustrating experience and to think JC Flood is supposed to be a reputable company. JC FLOOD HAS BEEN MORE CONSISTENT WITH BRUSHING ME OFF THAN CONTACTING ME WITH A RESOLUTION! I AM BEYOND BELIEF THAT THEY THINK IT'S OK TO LEAVE MY HOME THIS WAY! I have used John C. Flood often for both my primary residence and rentals. While they do good work and show up on time, their prices have risen to an absurd point - last week, I was charged $400 for a tech to spend a few minutes cutting a 12" hole in drywall on top of the cost to repair the pipe itself. This followed a visit where we needed a $15 flapper valve replaced, and the tech told us his lowest-touch repair option was to rebuild the entire toilet at a price of roughly $600 (options went up from there to a toilet replacement at $1,500.) Fernando the technician, who initially arrived to diagnose my problem came quickly and assessed my problem with clear options on how to proceed. He was professional, and well spoken about his product and procedure alternatives. In other words he really "knew his stuff". It is also important for me to feel safe and secure with who enters my home if I have not used them before and Fernando passed that test almost immediately! Flood is also willing to negotiate the price somewhat to meet the needs of the homeowner, so I appreciate the flexibility. Will never use or recommend John C. Flood whose business strategy is fleecing customers. First thing to know is they send a link from an outfit that filters bad reviews once you pay, so only the good ones are actually posted. IGNORE the amount of positive ratings, the bad ones get lost. Second thing to know is this is one of the many "local" companies that probably formerly provided great service at a reasonable cost unfortunately bought by a private equity company to squeeze the last drop of blood out of the turnip to benefit themselves while delivering no value to customers. I had an electrical issue for a tenant occupied property. Tenants are good and try to figure easy issues out, but could not. I suspected it was an easy issue and scheduled a 12-5 window with John C. Flood to check it out. They said a $99 service charge for a visit. Problem #1 - I get a text and phone call before 8 a.m. they're on the way. Keep in mind this needed to be scheduled with tenants and it was scheduled for Noon to 5pm. Fortunately, the tenants are available and can accommodate. Problem #2 - that $99 service charge? Oh that's if there's an actual repair! They actually charge $249/ hr and one hour minimum. As suspected, the issue was an easy breaker that was a little fussy. So $250 to reset a breaker that probably took 10 minutes. NEVER AGAIN! Do a search for any company providing home services like this that seems local to see if they were acquired by some useless firm to screw you over and profit themselves. read more

Luke T came out to do an ordinary checkup on our HVAC system, which had been installed by another company. He was meticulous, knowledgeable, and friendly. Not only did he find several rookie mistakes by the prior company (they literally didn't connect the wire to activate the second stage of our 2-stage heat pump!), he took the time to explain things about the system and give us info on how best to maintain it. I call John C. Flood stated that I have a smell coming from the kitchen sink. Javier came out and run a water test found out no clog. He ask me to turn my dishwasher on and the odor at the kitchen sink is likely coming from any standing water in appliance. I was a happy customer of Air One Tech, but since they were acquired by John C. Flood my experience has gone downhill. The technician who came out to inspect my system was polite and professional, but the estimates were shocking. I was quoted $605 for a refrigerant dye test/top-off and $337 for a simple condensate line cleaning -- almost $1,000 total for what should be minor service. A second "system restoration" proposal came in at $1,726 for pan tablets ($190), blower wheel cleaning ($768), and condenser cleaning ($768). These are mostly maintenance tasks, yet priced like major repairs. I didn't feel pressured by the technician's language, but the numbers speak for themselves -- this is a commission-driven pricing model that inflates costs far beyond what I paid with Air One Tech or what independents charge in Northern Virginia. While the techs may be courteous, the business model isn't customer-first. Based on these experiences, I won't be doing business with John C. Flood going forward and would strongly recommend anyone considering them to get a second opinion before approving work. read more

Their technician, Carl F., was personable, highly skilled, and TRANSPARENT with all parts of the job performed. Sean Hoffman was excellent. He is professional, extremely knowledgeable and honest. Our Heater quit working and after a diagnostic procedure Sean found it was a little sediment that came in from the high winds. He blew it out and reset it after making sure 3 times the heater came back on. I was absolutely over the moon happy. We always used Climate air & heating for 30 years with Cory. John C Flood bought them out as they are just as good with my Lennox Air Conditioning and Furnace for heat. read more

I cancelled my account with John C Flood in June 2025. I just realized they have continued to charge my credit card monthly despite 2 notifications in writing in June. I've had to open a dispute with my credit card company to get this resolved. My partner and I had an extremely disappointing experience with one of their technicians, Nassim Sebaoui. We were looking to fix a leak in an old water line that was getting disconnected and the technician told us it would be an easy fix and then gave us a quote for $573. That seemed excessive. When we asked for a breakdown of why it would cost so much, he was extremely flippant saying "it wasn't up to him what the price was" and followed up with "When was the last time you hired a plumber? We're expensive." The fact the technician either couldn't or wouldn't give a breakdown to explain the cost was concerning and made us feel like he and/or John C. Flood was trying to take advantage of us, so we refused the service. Based on this interaction we will not consider John C. Flood for future services. read more

The technicians misdiagnosed an issue with my HVAC/thermostat, and I ended up paying for a new thermostat and installation that I did not need. I had three different technicians sent out on three separate visits, and none of them caught the actual issue. The senior tech who got sent on a fourth visit and finally figured out what it was was the one who originally misdiagnosed the problem. The tech attempted to charge me to fix the issue after misdiagnosing the problem in the first place. I called customer service, and they agreed to compensate me and send a different technician to assess and address the issue. The team sent out included the senior tech that I was explicitly told was not going to be there, and the technicians sent attempted to charge me for the visit that I was being comped for. read more

The initial call was rough - though I suppose it was a little confusing as I was requesting services for two homes (mine and my parents). I regret that I paid for the memberships in hindsight. In any event, after navigating the request for maintenance services, my 3-year-old outdoor unit had a wall of ice inside the unit a week before the maintenance appointment. Luckily, they were able to send a tech, who diagnosed the issue, and ordered the part (which I paid in full in advance. lesson: don't do that.) I asked about the maintenance part and perhaps he didn't hear me, so the inspection wasn't done (there's more to this but I am going to pretend the convo didn't happen). I justified it as, they had to come back since the unit wasn't working properly. I did ask, though, with the coming cold front, what should I do about heat (the ice was just going to form again since it was the defroster panel that broke). I was given instructions (use emerg heat) so all was good....so far. Fast forward a few days, temperatures dipping below 25. I came home from work to a very cold house. I had the setting on the low side so I upped the heat a few degrees. I waited. The fan didn't turn on like it normally does. I waited another 20 min and, nope, no heat. Called emergency services at 6:30 pm. Called them at 7:30. Called them until 11:00 pm - each time I was told the techs were told that this was kind of urgent. Nothing. Not even an acknowledgement. Luckily being steaming mad was keeping me warm. That and a small electric heater. My last message was to have a manager call me in the morning. I don't think I would have ever heard back had I not specifically requested a call. Next morning, a manager called; I was still mad but she assured me that someone would be out and she would check on the status of the defroster board (it had been over a week since it was ordered and no updates). A tech did come out (he was great) and, miraculously, the panel had just reached their warehouse and they could install it the same day. Really? Fine. Despite finally having heat, after considering the poor customer service (not the tech - again, great), I decided I would keep my membership but since my parents' house was not yet serviced, break ties for that property. They were happy to cancel the membership and cancel the appointment BUT no membership refund. Mind you, I was only a "member" for about 3 weeks if that. Unbelievable. Poor service and a useless membership. Lesson learned. I cannot express any more clearly how unimpressive this company is and how much I don't recommend them. read more

I feel a little bad even leaving a review since I didn't really get any service but that is part of the story...read on. I found this company because our sump pump did not trigger during a rainstorm but once we messed with it it turned on. I googled how long they last and found their website saying 5-7 years and suggesting regularly (yearly) checkup. I figured I'd give them a shot since I appreciated their advice and even found a coupon on their website for a free checkup. Scheduling was normal, call in, schedule a time, morning/afternoon, couple days away. At the end, the person fielding my call asked if this was a good number to text me on. I said I didn't want texted and she said she'd make a note and stick to email. Right after the call I got a text and this probably should have been a flag. Jose arrived and did the inspection. I explained what had happened and he looked and said he didn't see anything wrong and borrowed a bucket (why do people not have tools and expect you do?) and filled the recess with water and it worked as expected. He suggested why it might have happened and not to be worried but to get a backup. I actually had a backup but hadn't set it up and he said his company would do it but not be able to warrentee. My normal plumber won't do it, so that was interesting to know. He said usually they install sump and backup together and cited off memory ~3k which was more than 4x what I had paid for the last sump. He also said that the pipes were .25" vs .5" which was weird. While there he noticed some old valves and pipes and recommended they be replaced. I also asked him about a blocked drain outside and he said they could do it and gave me estimates for the valves and the blockage. He also mentioned that normally inspections were paid but you would get the money back if you bought into their service. He also casually (no/low pressure) relayed they had a basically warentee service where they'd make 2 plumbing and 2 HVAC inspections per year no change at the cost of $200 non-renewable. Good to know but I didn't do it. So he left and I felt like the exchange went well, I felt better about the sump and got some free advice and thoughts about the company. The next day I got mail and text (despite my ask not to be texted) from a sales guy offering follow up. I mailed him back and said that I had some other stuff to do first and asked how long the estimates were good for and also that I needed to remove my text from their call center apparently. He said no problem and 30 days and to let him know. A couple days later, more emails and texts. This time I reply more strongly saying we talked already and not to contact me. Then more emails and texts. I noticed the emails have an unsubscribe feature so now I figure I'm on some auto mailer. I unsubscribe and block him. A couple days later my sump pump does the same non-trigger thing. So despite having it looked at, it was having issue. So...basically I got nothing from this company. Because of this, I just went with my normal plumber and replaced the sump pump via them. For under $800 (no backup). Ironically that plumber replaced some of the .25" pipes with .5" without asking so I guess they also thought it was weird :P Anyway TLDR I appreciate the free advice both website and from the service tech but their prices seem higher than I've experienced and their sales people are super aggro. With this non-experience I'd probably rate 2.5* mostly because it was free (but rounding down because of Yelp and imagining it wasn't). read more

Be Careful if you call this company for a Service Call. They might try to Sell, Sell, Sell. Hard Sell. Really Hard Sell. That's how they did me a few months ago. Several years ago, the plumber was good for a minor issue, so that's why I called this company for HVAC issue. Drain line on HVAC unit was backed up. Called to unclog blockage. HVAC tech was good; he blew nitrogen through & cut a pipe. After I paid, he said I needed a new HVAC unit. I asked a couple questions any consumer with two brain cells would ask. He said he couldn't answer, someone would contact me. Couple hours later a project manager shows up. Hello Advanced Towing. I got sucked in, but at the time, I had no reason not to trust them. It's been nothing but frustration, malfunctioning HVAC unit, breakers blown out in electrical panel TWICE, electrical power out in some areas of condo, money spent, more money spent. Yes, I did call as problems came up after the install. They came but didn't resolve anything. Main problem, they put in a dual-heater HVAC unit (60 amps) that is way too big for my tiny condo. My electrical panel only has 30 amps for the HVAC unit. They should have gotten me a one-heater, 10kw, 20 amp unit. The dual-heater, 60 amps is meant for a big house. They unplugged one heater strip, but the new HVAC unit doesn't function properly. And the drain line on HVAC unit backed up four months after installation. So I could have still had the old HVAC, and taken my time to do my due diligence in getting a new one. I found out recently it's a basement pipe causing the backup in drain line. I could have waited weeks or months to get the correct HVAC unit. But No, their North Star is to Sell, Sell, Sell, and Sell quickly. Whatever they had on hand, just sell the dumb broad what they had. In retrospect, I should have firmly cut them loose the first time they came to install. The new HVAC unit didn't fit!! What happened to measure twice, cut once??!? But I am forgiving, and I know everybody makes mistakes. Then the second install attempt a couple weeks later, Boom! Breakers get tripped, Twice! Live and Learn. If I had known about their predatory business tactics back when I first called for HVAC service, I would have never considered doing further business with them. When lack of scruples and competency, or both, are exposed, I can no longer do business with them. Just Be Careful. Do your research. $8K - $9K is the average price range for a new Magic Pak install if you go with an honest, reputable HVAC company. $13K is obscene, especially if it's not the right unit for you. My neighbor had a new HVAC unit installed last year and his was done properly. Prep work was done, electrical panel checked. He has No problems, no power outages, and reasonably priced. Caveat Emptor with this company. read more

This place is a complete ripoff, and a waste of your time. STAY AWAY. I made an appointment for a very simple job: replace an existing garbage disposal. I had the new unit myself, and the tech admitted to me that the job would take 30-60 minutes to accomplish. When I made the appointment, I specifically asked for their standard price for replacing a garbage disposal. The woman said the "managers were busy", which I now assume was probably a lie since the company clearly has a written schedule for this job that they could have easily shared. The appointment remained, and the tech showed up at my house and said this 30-60 minute job would cost... over $800. The kicker here is that they charged me $60 to show up at my house and try to rip me off. Even though I didn't want their service, they charged to have the tech come out and deliver this ridiculous estimate. I would assume they prey upon homeowners that don't have a proper understanding of basic economics and will just pay the bill no matter what it is since the tech is already there and they took time out of their day to meet them.
