I lived in this area for 30 yrs and never been to this restaurant and might not come back. Entering the building I noticed that none of furniture has been been replaced in years if not at all. It had this early mid 90s feel with a colored glass and just made feel like I was a kid again (not in good way). I ordered the 1/2 burger with fries. Not even kidding, the person who took my order gave me my drink and I sat down and less than 1min my food was ready. Now granted the fries were sitting out under a heat lamp. Shouldn't a burger take a little longer than that but maybe I'm wrong but it seemed odd. Taste was just okay. Nothing special about the burger that I probably got the other day at another place. She took 2 bites and said "I can not eat this, taste like something is rotten inside it". She thinks it came from the refried beans, but who knows. I ordered a California Burger which includes the usual bacon and avocado, but with whole wheat bread and Swiss cheese; different from what I'm used to. I walked in to John's at random the other morning for breakfast. I was hungry, saw the sign, and figured I'd get a grilled cheese sandwich and a cup of coffee - how could they hurt that? It turns out they really didn't hurt the food, but they DID completely forget to bring it to me after I took my number and took a seat in the completely empty restaurant. After waiting 15 minutes, I went up to the counter with my number in hand, asked the staffer about my sandwich, and she found it sitting under a heat lamp getting dry and unappetizing... They need to pay better attention to special orders. This used to be a great place to eat, but can't seem to get a special order correct. Getting something from them that is not plastered with cheese seems impossible! I can't eat cheese and getting any restaurants to understand this including this one seems impossible. The first time I ordered from them the burger was correct but slathered with a gigantic gob of cheese I didn't order. The next time I ordered they got the cheese right but the burger was burned to a crisp. I tried again today and again my request to leave off the cheese was only partly done. I order the Philly cheesecake with no cheese and they left the cheese off the top but the bun had cheese soaked into it, so I was able to eat something at least but was very disappointed. read more

My Aunt had the BLT which was huge and tasty. You order at the counter and select a seat and they bring you your order. It is a nice clean establishment with good food at a reasonable price. I walked from the Best Western to John's not expecting much. The Dinner Special of soup and salmon was one of the best I've had. The Clam Chowder was awesome! Not a fancy place but the food is better than most of the 3 and 4 star fancy shmancy Palm Springs restaurants. Stopped in to grab some breakfast with the family while on vacation. I had the huevos rancheros and carne asada. It was tasty!! My daughter ate a giant kids platter with pancake, eggs and bacon. John's Restaurant was very close to where we were staying. Service was very very attentive and prices were reasonable. However the food was very very bland. I had the pork chops and it included a salad, baked potato, garlic bread and vegetables and it was $16. There was absolutely no spice - although you could have salt pepper and tabasco sauce. Gyros and tortilla soup was better. I know the clientele are probably older retirees with dietary restrictions. I think our next meals will be more adventurous though. read more

I keep forgetting to take a picture of my burrito before I eat it. I know I gave this place a 3 before, but they've revamped slightly. The menu looks better. And they're food is good diner food. Honestly can't go wrong. I just love how this place is super close to my work. They have really good breakfast burritos - get the CA burrito, add chorizo, add jalapeños and extra salsa because their salsa is bomb AF. It's become a Friday tradition with my and my coworkers/friends where we get a burrito for breakfy and share it (because calories don't count when you share, duh). We actually get the tomatoes on the side since one of them doesn't like the tomatoes but it's still delicious. The burritos are a good size too! 3 girls (THAT LOVE FOOD) and we share that one burrito and we're happy campers for like an hour. We're like babies and require food like every 30 minutes. The burgers here are good too! They're quick at making food, when I order to-go, they tell me the order will be ready in like 10 minutes. The food is consistent and the employees there are friendly. They just need to like re-do the chairs and the booths and this place would probably be more popular. A bit outdated, only thing updated was the menu sign thing. read more

This morning I regretfully had breakfast at this "restaurant". I happened to be driving by and it looked like an old-school diner. I've never related when people write yelp reviews about bad food. Whelp, I had the huevos rancheros plate and I couldn't finish it because it wasn't good at all. The beans tasted bland, dried out and had no taste what so ever. Even the cheddar cheese on top of the beans has no taste. How is this possible? The eggs and green chili sauce you'd think have flavor, it didn't. How do eggs and green chili have no flavor? The hashbrowns were even worse, dry and no flavor. I rarely use salt but I had to pour salt and pepper to stomach a few bites. It was that gross. I left my plate there almost untouched. The tortillas tasted cheap and store bought (flour and corn). My first thought was, is this a diabetic plate? (because it was tasteless) The frozen section at the market has tastier hashbrowns than the ones I had here. Not once did an employee come by to ask how the food was. I've managed a restaurant and I can't believe this restaurant is in busIness. The coffee had a tap water after taste. I'm sorry but I'll never go back; I can cook better than this. read more
