This was my 3rd visit. We had breakfast and lunch. The staff there has always been nice. The restaurant is clean. Our most recent visit was different from the previous two. I watched my husband's burger sit in the window for 10-12 minutes and my food was no where in sight. I could hear them discussing that they were on 8 and the chefs were on something else. So when our waitress came by I told her that I've been watching the burger in the window for 10 minutes and she replied "we don't leave anything in the window for 10 minutes" and walked away to check it. She whispered to the guy at the window, he told the cooks who moved it from the window. 5 minutes later it popped back up with my food. It was disappointing as we were sat right in front of the window and I'm not a blind woman. When my husband got his burger, while it did taste decent, the bottom bun was soggy, probably from sitting so long, he was a good sport and ate it, but it was overcooked for sure. We may go back eventually, but it might just be for breakfast. read more

Whenever out of town guests visit I always take them to Johnny Angel's. Last Saturday my best friend of 20+ years and I enjoyed a leisurely breakfast here. We arrived a little after 10am and luckily were seated immediately. Typically I dont make brunch til after 11am and I've waited almost an hour for this adorable place. Love all the elvis, I love lucy, marilyn monroe, and other memorabilia on the walls! The staff here is super friendly and really seems to enjoy their jobs! I almost always order a spinach/ mushroom/ swiss omelette with shredded hash which always hits the spot. Classic diner items on the menu- nothing super fancy, and no alcohol fyi. Their milkshakes are delicious too but very filling- i usually take mine to go. Sometimes the details of my order are skipped (toast instead of a biscuit, whole eggs instead of egg whites), but that's a minor complaint. read more

Decent little diner stashed a little off the beaten path. They serve breakfast all day and open relatively early. They sport a cheerful 50's vibe with teal and pink throughout. Booths as well as a your typical counter and barstools plus black and white checker tile, neon, and pics of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe - you get the idea. I stopped in for a breakfast sandwich to go to avoid fast food. While the bacon, egg, and cheese on English muffin was good - it was too big. It came with 2 real eggs and was about $6.50. With a minor tip, that's an $8 breakfast sandwich so a little steep. I wonder if they can do a smaller portion for less - much like Metro Diner and their half servings. Johnny Angels has been around for quite some time so they must be doing something right. I may have to come back for a burger but IDK if an $8 breakfast sandwich will bring me back. read more

There was a 15 min wait when we arrived. We were then handed a pager. There was limited seating outside so we went to wait in the car. After about 30 mins and the pager has not gone off yet, we walked back in to check. They sat SEVEN OTHER PARTIES whom came after us. Why didn't our pager go off??!? Of course this set a bad mood for the service. But luck for them, there was a table available when we walked back in. Note to self don't leave their waiting area bc their pagers don't work for shit. Order: Popeyes's omelette and bogie & Bacall. The omelette came with hash browns and bread. Omelette was good but a little too much spinach for me. I would have liked more tomatoes. The hash browns weren't greasy like Waffle House so . The bogie and Bacall was flavorless. Chicken and biscuit needed salt or something. The gravy was good but there was too much of it on the plate. Getting it on the side would have been a better idea. Service and food overall was decent but I'll give them a second chance when I come back. read more

It needs a serious makeover, the bathrooms need a little TLC. And the main thing is there's HIDDEN COSTS on the menu for whatever reason!?! The waitresses call it UP-CHARGES (?) but it's nowhere on the menu and not explained anywhere! We've asked about it several times and when there is a manager there she apologizes and explains they are ringing it up wrong but this has happened three times in a row now. I used to come here all the time when I lived in Jax. It's a typical diner style, but with 50's memorabilia. It's a neat little joint. The food is typical diner quality. My husband and I enjoy it. I took my mom here for breakfast recently. The prices definitely have gone up and for two people to eat breakfast and 2 coffees, it will run you roughly $40 or so with tip. The place is very laid back. Do not go if you are in a hurry. We weren't so we didn't mind it taking a little longer to get served. After searching for brunch spots for an hour (many restaurants were closed), we found Johnny Angel's and we are so grateful that we found this gem! We ordered the Mae West with a side of corn beef hash and the two egg breakfast with turkey sausage, rye, and breakfast potatoes. The food did not disappoint. The service was accommodating as they added onions and green peppers to my potatoes and gave me an extra toasty rye slice. The only criticism I will give is to add more beef and less potatoes to the corn beef hash, as well as use a thinner bread for the french toast so it can be cooked all the way through. Johnny Angels was legitimately a staple in my coming of age story. I have fond memories of coming once a week (at least) through high school/college with friends and/or family. I've had breakfast, I've had lunch, I've had ice cream and I've never had a single bad thing. It's hidden in the back of the shopping center so it can be easy to miss (out of sight, out of mind, right?) but don't forget this gem. The service is always super quick and servers are engaging and bubbly. Not to mention, the prices are extremely fair. He got himself the Dixieland Skillet and I went with the Corned Beef breakfast. Well, I hope you are low on carbs because this place serves them up. Simple home fries (deep fried without peppers and onions) a giant biscuit topped with eggs, cheese and smothered in country gravy. A growing teenage boy is pretty happy with his choice. I also had home fries but should have made a different choice as the Corned Beef Hash is made with shredded hash browns mixed in. So have a pile or more potatoes is overload. 2 eggs and choice of grits, toast and I went with an English muffin. I finished half. It was good but far below my own standards. When we walked in, it immediately felt like home. We were greeted at the door and told to sit wherever we felt comfortable. There was so much to take in upon our entrance; a true family vibe, smiling faces, a jukebox and hundreds of photos of legends like Elvis, Ray Charles and Audrey Hepburn. The food was delicious!!! The jukebox was free so we enjoyed playing our favorite songs from the 60s and 70s. It was so much fun!! They also offer a monthly car show of classic cars, music and food of course (during the warmer seasons). I really enjoyed every aspect of this restaurant. 3 1/2 stars Love the atmosphere here. It's like stepping back in time and walking into a 50s diner. Looking at all the memorabilia is pretty cool; it's almost impossible to take it all in. They had a TV playing old episodes of The Three Stooges. I hope I don't upset any of you fans, but I absolutely abhor The Three Stooges. I'm extremely happy they didn't have the volume going or I might have walked out before I ever ordered. LOL It's very clean and inviting. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful. He was very attentive, although not overly so. I hadn't eaten in a while and was a couple of hours late taking my insulin. I informed him of this and he must have relayed the message to the cook because our food came out very quickly. Hubby and I shared the club sandwich and fries. The sandwich was huge and it was more than enough for both of us. I wasn't really impressed with the fries and didn't eat very many of them, but I have to say the club sandwich was the best one I have had in quite some time. I have a coworker who loves this freaking place, so after having not been there in several years, she convinced me to try it again. The shakes and beverages are pretty good! I loved my strawberry banana french toast combo breakfast at Johnny Angel's- they offer turkey sausage! Awesome, because I'm pork intolerant. Unfortunately, my husband didn't have as great of an experience... long story short, order whatever you want, but be wary of things with sauce. My husband ordered and ate the Salem's eggs benedict, and started feeling ill shortly after we got back on the road. He ended up puking in a mall parking lot, where a kind passer by offered him some water and asked what ailed him. When he said he'd eaten eggs benedict at Johnny Angel's, the person nodded knowingly and said a lot of people have been known to get sick from various sauces there. I also saw the bus guy cough on his hands and continue to do his work. Not the greatest health code enforcement, perhaps? Johnny Angel's is a hidden gem of a 50s diner. I've been here twice and both times left very satisfied! This last time we went on a Saturday at 11:45 and had about a 20 minute wait, not bad. Both the service and food is great! The burgers are my favorite thing to order. We swear we didn't want food when we first walked in. Just wanted a peek at the menu. Pretty cool place of ordered confusion. Found myself starring at the walls at all the interesting items. Even areas that looked extremely dusty - like someone had opened up a time capsule and let us walk in. And I wondered how long those dusty looking shirts hand been hanging on the wall. Saturday morning was winding down and grey clouds were coming in so we ordered milk shakes. Servers inside were extremely friendly and exceptionally helpful in choosing the cherry milkshake. (But the ones that were on break/leaving when we entered :-( (Loitered outside smoking near the door were unprofessional. They should at least cover up their shirts when they clock out. Those shirts are walking advertisements. This is why we were not really up for eating when first venturing in.) After scanning the place we ended up ordering burgers and sandwiches. He had a huge Joey burger with onion rings. But said he would have enjoyed something from Steak n Shake better. I had the CowardlyLion - and that punk was nasty. A dry chicken salad on heavily buttered Texas toast. Not mouthwatering just artery filling. And I foolishly had the super chunky nasty potato salad to go along with it.. Thankfully we took the food to go so I dug into my kitchen cabinets and doctored it up as much as I could.
