I love going here for breakfast! The coffee is always good, my food is always hot, and I love the old school atmosphere. Once you walk in and sit down you really are taken back! It gets really busy on sundays but they are pretty quick when it comes to getting people seated! Every time I go there an older blonde lady that usually stays behind the bar idk her name but she is SO SWEET AND NICE! She makes it what it is and I love her for it! I don't think my experience would be the same if she wasn't there. She is the best!!! What an adorable 50s style diner. Elvis greets you when you walk in the door and the staff is quick to follow. Great service and so many indulgent menu selections sure to please even the heartiest appetites. I ordered the Dixieland skillet for a nice selection of everything good breakfast has to offer. Starting out with grilled biscuits, that would be absolutely heavenly on their own, topped with crispy potatoes, scrambled eggs, sausage, gravy and smothered with cheese. Full of fat yes, but oh so full of flavor too. The biscuits were melt in your mouth and grilled to have a crunchy enough top to support the massive toppings. So much breakfast, this meal would feed a family or a very hungry couple. This woman vs. food was defeated, and I needed a nap afterwards or more appropriately a couple of weeks at the gym. This place serves a solid breakfast. I've personally never had their lunch menu but they have plenty on their menu there as well. It's a 50s diner setting and is always busy in the mornings. The service is pretty good and the food is great. The only thing that seems to be a little weak are their pancakes so I just veer from them. They just tend to be a little rubbery. read more

I haven't ate here in a hot minute, but it was still as delicious as the last time! The feel of this diner is just so unique, and totally different from the shopping center it is in. I got the Mae West which is two slices of French toast topped with bananas, strawberries, and whipped cream with a side of two eggs and bacon or sausage. The presentation is very nice, and the French toast was cooked perfectly. The fruit on top added a different, but enjoyable, taste. I got scrambled eggs and sausage for my sides and the eggs were perfect. For my drink I got one of their famous milkshakes. I got the chocolate and cheesecake one and it was to die for. I also love how they bring you the cup they make the milkshake in because who likes wasting food? Not I! Our waiter was amazing, and I can't remember his name, but he had dark brown or black hair and tattoos on his arms! We were the only ones in the restaurant when we ate, and he was on top of everything! So thank you so much! We will be back again! read more

After hearing such hype about novelty dishes I was expecting more. Not that the food or service lacked , it just wasn't phenomenal. Coffee did lack flavor which was disappointing for breakfast. My son enjoyed the captain crunch coated French toast and said his eggs were good. Maybe I'll give them a try again for a lunch menu. I'm sure we've all seen at least one movie or tv show that has featured a retro diner. Johnny Angel's had such a fun vibe. Everyone was extremely friendly and the menu had plenty to choose from. I ordered the Dixieland Skillet and a cup of chili. The Dixieland skillet has a layer of home fries, biscuit, sausage with gravy, and shredded cheese. Overall the dish was good. I definitely have had better gravy, but this was pretty good. The chili was good. The service was great. Prices were extremely reasonable. We got her for a late breakfast - 11 am on a Wednesday. It's a 50s diner . The server was friendly from New York. The coffee was good. We ordered o letters: the La Bamba and Popeye. The biscuits were delicious. They grill them and serve them hot & flaky with butter melted on. Their potatoes and crispy and seasoned. I got the Popeyes omelette with provolone instead of Swiss. It was really good. The La Bamba has chili in it with cheddar if that suits your taste buds. Homemade grit too! read more

What a cool, funky, retro, charming place! I love it's look with the old diner approach and all the awesome vintage style decor! 1st time here and so worth it. The portion size is very generous. My husband had Salem's Egg Benedict and says it's up there with all the good egg benedicts. Eggs, ham, hollandaise sauce, English muffins, and homemade hash browns. I tasted the hash browns and it was buttery crispy outside and soft on inside. I had Breakfast at Tiffany's combo. Rolling eyes good. It was 2 eggs, two slices of bacon, and 3 slices of French toast, dipped in captain crunch, topped with whipped cream, bananas, strawberries, and graham cracker crumbs. It needed nothing else on top. The service was good too. Our waitress checked on us even after we'd gotten our check. Not everyone does. Overall 5 star experience. Did I just find a slice of Happy Days in Jacksonville? Why, yes I did. Locally owned diner, with a wide variety of cleverly named items. The staff is friendly and hard working. These days a lot of restaurants staff are short handed and overwhelmed but you wouldn't know it here. Our food wait was reasonable, super fresh and drinks were consistently watched and filled. So my daughter, Jennifer and I, are on a journey to find good eating spots in the Jacksonville area. Today we found Johny Angel's and we definitely will be returning. If you like the 50's and diners, this is the place to be. All that was missing were the poodle skirts and roller skates. The food was great and the staff and owners were very friendly. One good indication that a restaurant is good is if its full, well it was packed! I had the "All American" burger with fries and although I'm was not born in the 50's the burger and the ambiance, certainly brought back good memories. Lastly, try the Root Beer Float. The exterior does not reflect the interior but it was a nice surprise inside. 50s theme diner with pictures and music to go along. When we first walked in, the sign said seat yourself so we did. But I got an uneasy feeling because for a diner I expected an friendly and happy atmosphere. There was no greetings at the door or interaction with an employee for 3-5 minutes after sitting down. When a guy did come around it was to offer us a different table. After what I guess what acknowledgment of existing, service got better. Keeping in mind most reviews said on weekends it is packed, this Sunday morning was not. The food was more than I expected, at least the omelet was alot. Went for lunch- they brought me whys they wanted how they wanted. I ordered a grilled veggie salad, no mushrooms no cheese. I got extra cheese and mushrooms. The waitress said - oh sorry. Look, I don't know where the bad reviews and experiences came from but my baby and I just ordered and we are stuffed. I will fight the soul who stands in the way of this nap I am about to take! There is no way you could eat this food on a work lunch break or even inside of the restaurant for that matter, unless you have an uber That Sausage egg and cheese breakfast sandwich should be renamed breakfast sausage burger. I was wondering why it was so big until I picked it up and saw two sausage patties and they do add a lot of egg but it's smothered in cheese. I would order a case of those biscuits omg. My sandwich came with potatoes they were tasty and crunchy and soft. My little boy is so picky he loves breakfast. So I chose this place so that he wouldn't play with his food and really eat it and get full and boy am I glad I chose this place! He is stuffed from French toast and sausage. This place is so cute! It is modeled after an old school diner from 50/60's. When you walk in you can really tell that the owners take a lot of pride in their establishment, by evidence of all of the fun decor. Breakfast is my favorite meal, so I really wasn't sure to expect, but the food did not disappoint. In fact, the food was amazing. Everything had such great flavor, and the servings were large.
