We had a very positive experience with front of house. We came here during the Handel's grand opening weekend so it was obviously busier than usual. However, the restaurant was still only half full the entire time we were there. Food came out very slow but the service staff was very apologetic and provided above and beyond service to make up for the slow service! It was greatly appreciated! Kitchen staff dropped the ball on multiple fronts tonight but I still have them 4 stars, here's why. I ordered a double smokey burger. This took the longest to arrive, probably 20-25 mins after ordering. It's suppose to come with BBQ ranch sauce but when I bit into the burger, I didn't taste any sweetness as expected of BBQ sauce. Took a second and confirmed, yup no sauce was included. I got in line and waited patiently for the cashier to ask for the sauce. She was very apologetic again and quickly brought a helping of the BBQ ranch sauce to our table. With the sauce this burger is perfection!!! The bacon was perfectly crispy! I mean like crispy chips without being hard. The patty was still piping hot even after we ate half way thru!! Buns were nicely toasted. The rocket, well according to the receipt we ordered the original although we had asked for the rocket. Guess we'll just have to go back another day to try that secret sauce! The original burger comes with mustard, relish, and pickles. Overall I loved it but I think there was too much mustard that made the burger eat very acidic, too acidic for me. Still a banger! Tots were delicious!! With grilled onions added really elevated the dish!!! The kitchen originally forgot the grilled onions (which was an extra $1.19) service staff again was very apologetic and brought the grilled onions on a separate plate after. We got a chocolate chip cookie on the house too make up for the inconveniences tonight. If I wasn't going to Handel's right after I would've opted for a complimentary shake instead. The cookie is more under baked, tasted like cookie dough but had an unpleasant taste. I took two nibbles and left the rest. I love the ambience! This place is nostalgic for us adults who grew up in the 90's!! No more chicken strips, instead they now offer chicken wings and chicken sandwiches! Fountain drinks self service with Pepsi products. There's also brewed tea available. I ran into a kitchen staff when I went to the restroom and found out that the other kitchen cook had actually burned her face somehow today. I don't know if it was earlier or while we were there but that could explain why the heavy delays with our food. OMG! Is all I can say!!! I did some research to find this place because I wanted to share the experience with my nephew and the quality of food, well let me tell you this... I have never walked into a place and not only was the cook in the dining area on his phone and the cashier sleeping on the counter with what I can only assume her boy/girlfriend. They finally acknowledged us and 5-10 min food was ready? And guess who served us lol ? I can't make this stuff up!!! Oho boy, this was one of my favorite to go places to eat since I'm vegan I would get the impossible burger and my husband would get the regular burger however we went in today to have lunch and to our surprise they spilled the oil or something and they were cleaning with a dirty filthy rags placing them on top of the grill this is going on while the cook was making the hamburgers for other people, the young lady with the long eyelashes was spraying and spraying and spraying some chemicals wiping off the mess and it was right next to the hamburgers eeeeiiiiii could not believe it !!!!! that was disgusting I am sorry, but I am very conscientious of what I eat and how they prepare it I don't like chemicals being sprayed while the food is being cooked and have to eat it after the spray mist is going every where ‍who the hell knows what's in that spray We walked out immediately!!!!!!! Ugh. I don't like to write negative posts. But this place was disappointing. I was randomly craving a shake and had gone next door to pick up ramen for lunch the next day. I came here and ordered a shake and a hotdog. The employee was glued to his phone, young kid. HE was so checked out, the cook noticed and came for my order. The cook was waaay friendlier than the actual dude running the register. I gave him my order and then the kid walked over to me after this. He rang me up while still watching something on his phone. So this is impressively terrible. I cannot strongly enough urge others looking to dine to avoid this place. They make McDonald's look good. Bun was the only really tasty item. French fries - dry, tasteless, maybe old grease was used? Not sure how you mess these up so bad. Chicken strips - these are normally a highlight of the meal. Texture was off. Tasted funny. Wasn't sure I was actually eating chicken vs fake chicken - seriously.. Onion rings - somehow tasted funny. Not even sure how you screw up onion rings. Chicken wings - I requested 2 different sauces. Instead of using 1 sauce of each. I received 1 with sauce and 1 order with NO sauce. Not even sauce on side. Let me start by saying the last time I'd been to a Johnny Rockets was somewhere near Montebello around 2017. I wanted to treat my mom and aunt to lunch for helping me out and seeing a Johnny Rockets that's really close to my house I jogged my memory and thought this would be a great way to say thanks. The staff were all very nice and helpful. But the old time diner feel was post mortem. It started almost immediately when I asked for a vanilla Diet Coke and they said they no longer use Coke products. And no longer made fountain drinks, at all. As the kids would say the saxophones started. they still made shakes but no longer made floats or other speciality fountain drinks. I told myself no worries I'll go with an old JR favorite I'll ask for an Arnold Palmer and when she handed me the cup I thought hmm okay maybe they've got their old fresh l lemonade and fresh brewed tea over at the drink station. Well it was there all right. The Lipton machine and the lemonade from the soda machine. I thought it odd that they actually had Arnold Palmer on the menu and it was more $$ than the iced tea alone. The service was prompt and although staggered they brought me a freshly cooked Route 66 burger. It was actually the one saving grace of having lunch here. It was good across the board. It wasn't quite the classic St. Louis burger that JR used to sell, but it hit the spot. I've never been an onion rings guy but my aunt ordered some so is had to give one a try. It was pretty good. The fries on the other hand had changed drastically . jR used to have nice thick chips for their fries and now they're just thin fries and not really note worthy. I decided to go on the day of their grand opening Floor Plan: Thought it was okay, but feels kinda uncomfortable sitting at the communal long table next to the line where you order. I get that there isn't much room so they had to maximize the space that they have. Credit Card: They're accepted Restroom: Yes, restroom is available. Parking: A shared parking lot with other business in the back. Ambiance/Decor: Ambiance was alright with 1940's vintage feel. Wasn't born in the 40's, but in the movies it does look kinda sorta like it. There aren't many tables and seats inside, but their are communal tables outside. It would be nice if they would a real jukebox to play some tunes and have the staffers dance like the old location at the Santa Anita mall (The mall is now called, The Shops of Santa Anita. Order Of Operation: 1) Get in line and pay at the register 2) Go to a table, place your number at the table, and wait for a staffer to bring you your food. As for to-go orders, just stand anywhere that has some space to wait for your order. Service: Service was alright for the most part. Felt a little off putting when the staffer behind the register asked if I would like to tip. Food came out at a decent time and the staffer (Jolene) provided more ketchup by drawing a smiley face on the plate. I realized after I finished my meal that they forgot to give me my chocolate milkshake I ordered. I had a hard time finding Jolene to tell her about it that I went to the counter instead and talked to the person at register. Eventually, I got the milkshake. I like Johnny Rockets -- it's one of the better budget-priced burger chains imo -- but I would be very surprised if this location is still here come summer. Has the vibe of a place where everyone who works there is just waiting to hear that it's being closed. Both times I was the only customer there, and when I came in the dude at the counter was on his phone and didn't look up or acknowledge me until I walked right up to him and said, "uh, hey?" Firstly, the food was absolutely delicious. We received our burgers and they were cooked perfectly. You could squeeze the burger and fat was still oozing out of the patty. It tasted phenomenal and was not undercooked. The service was quick and efficient. Our food was brought to us promptly. Plenty of PARKING! Sometimes parking is everything, especially when you are hungry and don't want to circle the block for a space to park. The location in Alhambra is great in terms of parking spaces. Burgers, fries, and shakes was the craving so Johnny Rockets made sense. Downside might be they don't offer combo meals. Mostly everything is "à la carte", (burgers, fries, drinks are charged separately - not a good value), the exception are the kids meals and special promotion meal. When I think of Johnny Rockets, I remember the old location on Main St. Back then, they always drew a ketchup smiley face. I really like their ranch, not sure if it's made in house. I was in the area and saw this location and had to stop by for a late lunch. I ordered The Rocket (single), Chicken Club, Onion Rings and Fries. I was surprised each burger is around $10 - $14 now. The jukebox of an app/website link now with different playlists of classic diner music, organized by era/genre (Motown, 60s, 50s, etc) The strawberry and Oreo milkshake is my fave. WOW. They open Johnny's Rockets in Alhambra we enjoy Johnny's Rocket the look of 50's with twist of a modern look of today. The restaurant bring back the old classic of the 50's diner. The food is more modern but still have the classic comfort foods like burgers and shakes but now they serving chicken wings from a outlet called Hurricane wings. We decided to come to Johnny's Rockets and grab a burger and shakes. My wife order the Route 66 burger with Tater Tots and I order the Original double burger and onion rings. We waited for our food to come and hearing classic oldie music it was nice. They brought out our food especially a draw cat made by ketchup. The Route 66 burger that my wife order looks good it have Swiss cheese and caramelized onions. My Orginal double burger look delicious took a bite juicy and great flavors in the burger I really enjoy it and the onion rings were great also come ranch dipping sauce by the side they very crunchy that I really like. Haven't been here since it newly opened and wanted to give it a try. There's plenty of parking right outside the back entrance. I ordered the original well done with lettuce and tomato on the side, tater tots, and chicken tenders. The burgers are a bit expensive for it tasting below mediocre. I've had better burgers at airports. The buns were cold too. The chicken tenders were way too fried and super crunchy and not the good kind of crunchy. They don't have combos so everything is pretty much sold separately. You order and pay in the front and they'll give you a number, you choose a table to sit at and they'll bring you your food. The table we sat at smelled like sewers because it seems there was a leak by the fountain sodas. I can't get that smell out of my nose rn. Perhaps because it's a weekday, there aren't as many customers, so we can place our food and drink orders straight immediately. Although there weren't many customers, we had to wait a while for the food to arrive. I was given a complimentary hamburger when I joined the Rocket E-Club. The drinks and food are decent thus far, but the restroom is the one area where the restaurant has to improve. The men restroom sink leak left water all over the floor. The cashier was friendly and brought out our tater tots first because they were done first. That was considerate since we weren't left sitting there starving.
