I have been here several times and it is very consistent. When you walk in the impressive bar is to the left and the cozy dining room to the right. Host has always greeted us with a smile. The dining room itself is clean and nicely appointed with very comfortable booths and equally comfortable tables and chairs. Not a large space but more than adequate. Lighting is kept not too bright, but not dim either. The menu is sort of a Wildfire with a greek accent. Steaks and seafood, burgers and of course their signature chicken. I usually get the chicken which is prepared in a wood fired oven, and although they don't use very large birds, they are of very good quality. Johnny's may not be a destination place, but if I lived nearby I would definitely eat here often. As for the bar, all I can say is that the cocktails are terrific. They have everything you would want in a fully stocked bar. They pour a very generous drink. read more

Baked Onion Soup is good. And I've never had a bad burger or steak either. There's a large bar too. 2 friends and I headed here after work one day to grab dinner and catch up. Overall, the food was OK, it was a bit overpriced, and there wasn't much of an atmosphere. I had the quarter (all white meat) BBQ chicken with soup and fries. The chicken was cooked well, and the fries were good, but there was nothing that special about it. The meal cost $10.95. It was really dark and dim in the restaurant. I was kind of surprised when we were seated at our table just how dark it was. Our waitress was very nice, and checked on us often. We split a bottle of wine among the three of us (I think it was $26 for a pinot grigio), and she was very attentive in topping off our glasses. We didn't feel rushed at all, which we appreciated, as we were there for a while. Super homey feeling with a wide selection of drinks. If you are looking for some home-cooked comfort food in a very friendly atmosphere this is the place to go. Their specialty is their wood-fire grilled chicken but make sure to get the half and not the full unless you're exceptionally hungry and want to actually eat a full chicken. Yea, I've been here the obligatory couple of times........ Never been disappointed. The wait staff is wonderful, never had a bad experience. Always on top of their game. Food: wood roasted ribs, chicken, some steaks. As previously stated comes with soup or salad, that is usually very good. If I had to pick out something they could improve on it would be the fact that their tables are a bit too close together for comfortable manuevering through the restaurant. I've been here a couple of times, most recently for a sponsored corporate gathering/meal. My experience with the restaurant staff has been good. The food is not disagreable; just not something that makes me go "wow!" It is something that I can get at many other privately-owned establishments. Overall, Johnny's serves up a decent dish, but if I found a privately-owned establishment in the area that has that "wow" factor, I'd probably go to that place. A M A Z I N G. We just wanted a casual lunch (around 3pm), so we saw Johnnys. The crowd was a whole family type of deal, not just elderly. The outside looks plain, until you walk in. Very nice, just like Andrews on Dempster. I had my 2 year old son with me (imagine what could happen with the little monster)....we had a great experience & the waitress was super sweet and very attentive. She cared about my son and even gave him extras to keep him busy! It really helped us enjoy our dining out, because parents know its hard to with the little ones. The meals. 1st off, they have this deal going on, 2 meals, 1 appetizer, 1 dessert ...plus 2 pastas you take home for only $40. (with soup or salad!) As hungry as we were, we decided to get this. We both got the chicken parm, and let me tell you, -mouthwatering. Cheesy, the chicken was perfect and the pasta was very tasty. Choose from a variety of menu items, something for everyone. We went in for a late dinner about 9 PM. The two of us both wanted babyback ribs which were very tasty. We enjoyed the navy bean soup(NAVY HOOYAH!), and sides of fresh steamed veggies. My wife had a baked potato loaded with cheese and bacon and I had the mashed potatoes. I ordered garlic mashed potatoes which isn't on the menu, but they added garlic for me, creamy and delicious. Went for the first time yesterday mid afternoon. Had the corned beef sandwich, my friend had the club sandwich. The corned beef came on a light rye bread and both the meat and bread were kind of dry. I had to put the horseradish sauce on just to give it a little moisture. It came with about a tablespoon of coleslaw so sweet I thought it was trying to be dessert. My friend had to ask for some thousand island dressing for her club sandwich just to make it moist enough to eat. The wait staff was kind of slow, but otherwise ok. Not a gourmet place, just good food. They roast their own ribs -- great -- and chicken and consistently deliver good food. I had a salmon special that came with shrimp and a scallop and loved it. Told the owner it didn't need the additional crab meat so you won't find it. Scallops are often iffy but the owner uses sushi grade ones and they are very good. Weekends are crowded so reservations are good, but wait times are not bad if you drop in. Wait staff is very responsive. I love the ribs here better than the big name places nearby. read more

My family and have have visited the restaurant for years and have always had a good meal. My sister-in-law was recently visiting so we took her to Johnny's for dinner. It was 6 of us, a fairly large group. We found the onion soup to be flavorless, which was unusual. We also looked forward to the ribs and were very disappointed! They were over cooked and dry. The atmosphere of this restaurant is casual and the service was very good. I started with ordering a glass of wine. The first glass was dirty do I asked for a new glass. The server was very nice and exchanged it. The second glass had pieces of fuzz all over. I am guessing from the towel that they use to dry or clean the glasses.....but I just picked off the fuzz and had my wine. The restaurant was very accommodating for gluten free options. The portions are very large for the money, but the chopped steak was bland and the vegetables were not seasoned. I did get some asiago cheese mashed potatoes and they were excellent. Overall... Went there on Black Friday at about 4pm. It was not what I had expected. IT WAS BETTER! When you look it up online or pull into lot, it looks like it could be an average bar and grille. You go inside and it has this "old world" traditional pub feel. The music, lighting, decor, and service made my visit comfortable, relaxed, and enjoyable. Great atmosphere! The waitress, Pauline, was friendly and had great humor which made the meal even better. She helped with our meal selection too, made sure it was made to perfection for our liking. Even gave us ideas for our next visit. The food was absolutely delicious and you get plenty. Price is a little higher than I would have expected but not too high. Everything made it worth it. First up was the french onion soup. On point. It was served perfectly in a crock I'm going to assume has been around since 1970. Next up were the potato skins. No frozen spuds here, man. Real deal deep fried tater skins piled high with the perfect amount of cheese and bacon and cool sour cream on the side. They were really crispy and really delicious. I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich for my entree. Um - Yes. Easily one of the best fried chicken sammies ever because the coating was really tasty and the spicy slaw they serve on top was perfection. If I had to go back and do it again, and let's be honest, I will, I would actually get it without the bacon and cheese. 3 bad experiences here. I live across the street so I overlooked the first 2 because it is simply convenient with decent food. Food: pretty decent Prices: a little pricey for the food they serve Service: TERRIBAD! First experience, my lovely girlfriend and two of our friends ordered calamari. After a few bites, we all had realized she had given us ketchup instead of cocktail sauce. Upon this realization, we kindly asked our server and explained that we understood the mix-up and if she could please bring us some cocktail sauce. "No, that IS cocktail sauce," she remarked, as she started to turn away. (The restaurant was not busy that night, by the way). Slightly offended, I again, kindly insisted that it was ketchup and that the 4 of my friends and I all agreed. "No, we don't put ketchup in those serving cups, so I know it can't be ketchup." In the end, we ate our mediocre calamari with ketchup-flavored cocktail sauce. To summarize, she outright told us we were wrong, did not offer any other sauces, nor did she apologize or acknowledge that perhaps their cocktail sauce tastes like ketchup. (It was definately ketchup by the way) The 2nd and 3rd strike were both carry-out. EXTREMELY rude service on pick-up. On the 3rd occasion, when giving my friend a pen to sign the credit slip, one might possibly say he THREW the pen at my friend in his frustration. (It was a busy night so perhaps low-tip carryouts annoyed him?) Despite the fact that I live across the street, I've decided I will not be going to this place ever again.
