When asking for a chocolate chip bagel its center is filled with chocolate chips its like a molten lava cake!! The mister loves the jalopeno, sausage, and cheese bagel! The breakfast bagel sandwiches are the absolute best. The Bagels alone are wonderful. I would definately recommend this place for these reasons alone. The coffee however is very disappointing. The place has no ambiance. Looks like it hasten't been painted and updated in years. Could use some brightening up. My main issue with this place is that the lady who works the counter most of the time (I believe she is the owner) is only friendly toward some of her customers. The vibe that several of us have received from her is that her main focus seems to be on ensuring that she charges for everything she possibly can and making sure that money comes in. The guy who works the counter here and there is much more pleasant, but when he runs the till she hovers and watches every thing he does. My wife brought home a bagel lox and cream cheese sandwich from this place and it was awesome! We're new to the area so finding spots like this is crucial! The bagel itself was very good and that's absolutely key because it's always more than 1/2 of the sandwich. But then they didn't disappoint with the stuff in the middle either. This place is basically famous to native Simi Valley-ans. The best bagels in town! I've been coming here since I was a kid, and I am never disappointed with the delicious options & the quick and friendly service. I usually get the Cinnamon Crunch bagel smothered with extra butter. They're closed on Sundays :( And trust me, when you wake up hungover after a wild Saturday night and all you can focus on is how much you want a JBD bagel...it's a painful experience to realize that they are closed. Back in '07 (wow I'm getting old) I used to frequent this place semi regularly. It was a hop, skip, and jump away from work so it made the short lunches more fulfilling. The first time I had a chocolate bagel was a sheer revelation. Fast forward to now, where I take my 12 year old son to visit my mom at the same work spot and stop here for our lunch - my rave reviews echoing in the car obnoxiously to him- where we got the old favorites and a bagel and lox. It was pretty good, not great. But the service, prices, atmosphere... they all had a "janky" feel to it that made the experience less than savory. I remember employees not being overly friendly, but now I get a distinct detachment from the customers. Don't get me wrong, there isn't a place like this nearby and I would definitely recommend someone try them out if they're ever in Simi Valley, but revisiting faded the magic my memory had stored. read more

Don't listen to these nay-Sayers, trying to get you to believe these aren't bagels because there are no holes in the middle. That just means there's more delicious bagely-goodness to eat! I have never had anything but fresh bagels here. I don't know if there's a secret to it or I just get there at the right time. I like to think the first one. They have a gianormously-gigantically-collossally huge selection of bagels. And seasonal bagels. And you can get them toasted. You can get breakfast bagels, or you can ask them to out stuff on it. I always get cream cheese and tomato slices. Don't know what else there is, but they probably have it. They've also got lots of other stuff. Soups, and sandwiches, and all that other good stuff. So they're great for meals other than breakfast. And they've got a pretty big selection of drinks too. Coffee, soda, milk, chocolate milk, and a variety of juices. And on top of that. When I was a librarians aid in high school, the librarian would buy us bagels every Wednesday and I was so hoping this was the place but unfortunately it's not. BUT the bagels here are pretty tasty when it's toasted. I got a plain bagel toasted with cream cheese and fell in love. I am so happy to not have John's bagel deli around me or else I would just eat carbs all day long. This is definitely one of the better mom and pop owned bagel shop. I can NEVER enjoy a regular bagel again.... The bagels here dont have holes in them and it should be kept that way (ive never liked it when the fillings fell through the middle of bagels with holes)! The bagels here are made fresh daily, and you can definitely taste it! 1st Visit - Darn good no-hole bagel. Light (not doughy) bagel. Good selection of bagel flavors and cheeses. Nice selection of breakfast and lunch sandwiches. I had an egg, ham, & cheese breakfast sandwich on a cheddar bagel. Nice amount of everything (egg, ham, and cheese) packed on this bun like bagel. I really enjoyed it and will be back to try more sandwiches. 2nd Visit - Yum, just yum. Had a group with me and we all got breakfast sandwiches on a bagel, just wonderful. Place got crowded, non-stop traffic which is a great indications this place is a gem in the neighborhood. Noticed a basket of 1/2 price bagels and found a half-dozen of chocolate bagels. These bagels look like any other bagel until you see the chocolate chunks inside. I'm looking forward on warming up the chocolate bagel in the oven and biting into it. A cute little bagel shop that sells sandwiches, it really exceeded my standards. I had seen the good reviews on the yelp and went there to try it out myself. turns out it is amazing. went there for brunch and my friends got the korean bbq sandwich while i got the california club. it was delicious to say the least although the california club was nothing surprisingly stunning while the korean bbq sandwich was amazing. it was a juicy combination of meat, spice, and other layers. on top of that my mom had the breakfast western which was packed full of egg and bacon. getting to the notable points, the bagels were more like rolls like others say but the thickness and softness is indicative of a bagel. they're soft when fresh and absolutely delicious. i have yet to try one with cream cheese but everything is made there (including the cream cheese) which is all the better. the bagels have the ingredients like cheese and jalepenos etc etc baked in which really adds to the flavor in my opinion. i really liked the place in general, cute, cozy and great food. definitely give it a try! i find a lot of reviews of the local places a little inflated but this one is pretty spot on. read more
