Let me preface this by saying my husband and I are vegetarians. Having said that, like most, we do enjoy the cliché vegetarian dishes such as quinoa on anything or a variety of salads, however, this evening we craved the All-American burger and fries. We found John's Place after searching on yelp and saw that they offer a vegetarian burger so we set off with a friend of ours from 29. My husband and his friend ordered a Chocolate milkshake and Oreo malt. They were divine! Our friend ordered himself the seafood platter with a baked potato, which we took his word for it, was delicious. My husband and I both ordered the veggie burger with fries, he however added the avocado sauce to his fries, and we both supplemented onions for avocados. I am 100% in love with this burger! It was filling, fresh and unlike most vegetarian burgers (Which are frozen). To my dismay they have an amazing looking dessert menu however we hadn't any room left after. We definitely plan on returning, especially for their brunch, and before I finish, I must say our server was the bees knees! I'm sure all of their servers are divine however Sophia was ours, she was polite, attentive and very funny. She checked on us regularly, and joked around and made our first visit memorable and worth the drive! At 54 years of age I've had more than my share of grilled hamburgers. Without a doubt this is the BEST charbroiled hamburger (John's gourmet) I've ever had. They combine brisket, ribeye and ground chuck for the mouth watering, juicy, flavorful patty to die for. Toasted bun and a special sauce perfectly accompanied the flavor of the burger. I'd like to see if I can have these frozen, packaged and sent to Indiana, no joke! Zucchini fries were amazing and onion rings delicious. Staff was kind, fun and courteous. Service fast. Woman behind counter with "stay away bro" mask is the most unfriendly restaurant worker I've ever been helped by. How can this person work at a business dealing with people? She is rude, doesn't say hi, doesn't look you in the eyes and just throws your food on the table and leaves. Went here to eat asked for the heat lamp to be turned on for their outside dining the worker acted put out but did it with attitude . She says to another person "these really don't work anyway more a mental thing, iknow I wouldn't eat out here" then I see inside to the kitchen and it was so gross and dirty I don't know how this place is opened..stay away! read more

For a tiny hole in the wall, this place delivers good food and great service. It's Thanksgiving week and the restaurant is slammed with locals and tourists. They were so short-staffed, the dishwasher sat us and got us drinks. Yes, it took awhile to get served, but the staff was cheerful and efficient. We ordered chicken fried steak and eggs, potatoes, oatmeal, pancakes, and the ham steak. It was all hot, crispy, with melted butter. It was all so good. Went to dine for dinner with family. Place is average for a local diner. Wait staff was really good though. (at least our waitress) Very attentive and friendly, giving service with a smile. FOOD: Steak & Shrimp entree was good. Steak was cooked to order... #delish Fries were 'cold' though. Veggies were good also. Carne Asada tacos were very good. Meat was seasoned perfectly. I'm a regular customer. Went for lunch today. Sat for 25 minutes waiting for service. Server came to the table in front of me twice looked at me, and then walked back to the front. Other people came in after I'd been waiting for 25 minutes and sat at booth across from me. Server came by and said to me ,"I'll be right with you" then proceeded to take an order from the group that just sat down. I then said "I've been waiting 25 minutes and they just got here" then I got up and left. Food at John's Place has always been very good. Service needs improvement in my opinion. read more

Went here with a few friends and got treated TERRIBLY by ALL the young waitresses. Horrible attitudes and extremely rude to us. Yelled at us when they asked which orders were ours because "the plate was hot." Maybe get some oven mitts to carry the plates instead of verbally abuse your customers?? Hate to leave a bad review because the male workers were very kind to our table. But no one should treat customers like that. Looks like a dive diner from the outside and only had three customers when we arrived at 6:00 but the menu was pretty good and the food turned out to be pretty good except the salad looked mostly like things my dad made me pull up out of the yard when I was a kid and the asparagus was grossly overcooked. My wife had fish and chips (not a great choice for a desert restaurant but it was ok) and I had a steak and chicken combo that was really good-especially the chicken. The service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. By the time we left the place was very busy. read more

Staff was friendly. The issue I had was that I asked for over hard eggs and received sunny side up. Before the server left the table, I brought it up and all they did was say okay. They didn't take the plate to fix the issue. It took me bring it up to the second person that brought the rest of the food to us to finally get the process started which was 5 mins. In total waiting for my eggs, it was 15 mins and they still were not fully over hard. I didn't receive the juice that I ordered until I asked for it which was half way through eating my plate. read more

Hey, you want a diner? This is what you're looking for. Basic diner vibe all the way. The food is standard diner fare too. Not that we tried everything on the menu - we were just hungry enough for burgers. You can "have it your way" here, so I told them to skip the tomato. My wife asked for a regular hamburger ($5) and I decided on a cheeseburger for a dollar more. These are 1/3-pound burgers, so they are pretty big. And mine came with so much lettuce that it was hard to bite into it. Both were cooked to order and were pretty tasty. I found the place was pretty noisy. With hard-surfaced walls it was possible to hear conversations on the other side of the restaurant and since I have hearing aids, it's hard to have a conversation when you can hear everyone else in the place. That's my basic complaint. We expect to be a regular at this place, maybe after the lunch rush though. read more

My husband and I wanted to have the hamburger special advertised for $8 and was told by waitress Anna that you have to make it a combo for $12, so I ended up ordering the pastrami sandwich which was extremely fatty. Customer service so disappointing that they have just lost a local repeat customer. If your a manager on duty you really need to make the customer experience better then the regular help. Great food and the menu offers a variety of options. The atmosphere has a "basic diner" feel to it, and the food, a homemade flair! The restrooms are clean. This is a restaurant that offers great burgers, liver and onions with mash potatoes, fried zucchini, great fries, certain meals include pudding desert, and much more! I do need to add though, I ordered a salad and I do not think the lettuce was properly cleaned and many leaves were not fresh, although it was a good mix of various types of lettuce (important to us salad lovers!) Been coming here for years but we moved away a few years back. Stopped in for lunch today at 1pm before a medical appointment, like we always do when we are up in Yucca. It was not real busy so we sat down and waited for menus. We ordered our food around 1:10 and at 1:40 our food came out...cold and eggs were over cooked and dried out, biscuit came out a few minutes later and it was extremely tough like it had been microwaved too long. Worst meal ever! They brought to-go boxes but it was not worth the bother. Service is usually very good but today was lacking. Not sure we will be returning next time we are up here. This place is horrible. I tried to give it a chance multiple times because I love the Twentynine Palms location but this one just sucks! I should of known better when I came the first time they gave me a raw hamburger ‍ when I asked for well done. Second time I ordered chili cheese fries and when I came to pick them up they told me they didn't have chili and if I wanted something else. Didn't bother to call me to let me know before I got there and waste my lunch hour waiting for a new order. Today I place an online order and arrive past the time they said it would be ready. When I arrive it's not ready. I go next door to buy some things and come back, still not ready. I then see a waitress start to pack the order but leaves it because a party walked in and I'm sure the tip they leave is more important than finishing the order. No one comes to finish the order until I ask them if it's ready. They still tell me no it's not ready but indeed it is. Just needed to be packed up. Again this location is terrible.
