I made an appointment at JoJo Hair Studio after finding them on Yelp, since they're one of the few hair salons that does updos in the area. I called on a Tuesday and was able to get an appointment with Ray Ray for that Friday. When I arrived, he was friendly and professional, and clearly very passionate about his work. The salon was clean and had a relaxing atmosphere. While I like the way my hair turned out, I just wish that it had lasted a bit longer. I got it done for a photoshoot and within 40 minutes of leaving the salon, there were already some pieces falling out of the bun. By the evening, I had to take the bun out completely because it just wasn't holding. The photos still came out fine, but I do wish that it was a bit more secured for the $110 cost. Jojo is an artist! The kind a picky person like me would feel soooooooo relaxed getting a haircut from! I'm one of those picky people who is always anxious and constantly trying to make sure the stylist is not messing up (had a few traumatizing experiences in the past )... but with Jojo, after the first 5 minutes, I started to relax and fully trust him! I found that he's even pickier than I am! His attention to detail was amazing ... He was very honest and friendly and I genuinely enjoyed our conversations about life , goals , struggles and more. His studio (specially his room) is very clean and minimalist which makes you feel very calm. The staff were very friendly and polite (both with customers and with each other). Jojo is VEEEEEERYYYY experienced and with his attention to detail and perfectionism, you'll most likely leave feeling AMAZING!!! I have moved to San Jose in 1998. In bad need of a haircut and color, I got a recommendation from a friend to go to Jojo's Hair Salon. Since then, I have not had anyone cut my hair and kept on going back. Even when I was working in Singapore for 3 years, I would time my haircut to my quarterly SJ HQ meetings. I have moved to SF 14 years ago, but still make the trek to SF to get my hair cut and hair color. Why? Because of Jojo - who is a master in cutting hair. He is meticulous, listens and advises on the best haircut for you at that moment in your life. Months after a haircut, the shape still holds. The staff are friendly and it's my "hair spa" time every time I went. Throughout the 23 years, I have seen Jojo coach/ mentor staff members until they blossom into their own respective careers and go in their own. The salon is conveniently located in First St San Jose which has easy access to 101 and 280. There's ample and safe fenced parking at the back of salon. The salon itself has gone through multiple upgrades and renovations to keep it updated to needs of the customers. JoJo is the BEST! He is truly an artist. JoJo's Salon is the type of place where it has grown to its level of success BECAUSE JoJo is so good. He has built up a large family of clients and this success has made him able to create a friendly and gorgeous salon. There are other salons that are made to look pretty and modern, but the quality of the haircuts are subpar. I don't feel like i'm just paying for atmosphere or a "vibe" at JoJo's Salon, I feel like i'm getting a quality haircut with an amazing experience. I only get a haircut once every 1-2 years because I never know what I want and always tell the hairdresser the wrong thing. I end up not liking the haircut and just waiting for it to grow out. This is not the case with JoJo. I came in to his studio without an idea of what I want with my hair and let his creativity fly! He is a former engineer and approaches haircuts with both science and art. He understands the shape of one's head and how hair should be catered to it. He understands the modern trending styles and has done enough haircuts to know what methods works and don't work. I also have pretty thick hair. Most hairdressers get frustrated with my hair and started using thinning scissors. JoJo partitioned my hair and worked on it section by section. This is no easy task with the amount of hair I have. I can definitely tell the difference in quality a month later when my hair dries and the layers show. At the end of the haircut, I felt GOOD! I felt pretty, I felt like I wanted to go out somewhere and show off my haircut. This is the kind of feeling you want after leaving a salon. I need to rave about Gaby for so many reasons. First off all, she's a true creator - I asked for a cut and bayalage, and trusted her with the rest (length, temperature etc.) Thank goodness I did because Gaby made me feel like myself again, which is amazing even when you don't consider how hard that might be given I'm about to pop with baby number 3 and I had a patch of freshly sprouted covid grays. I could seriously cry! She made my hair so beautiful and made me feel good about myself. On top of that, you couldn't convince me there is a stylist more thoughtful and kind than Gaby. She spent her whole day with me paying attention to every single detail. I'll never go to another person again. I actually did something for myself today & treated myself to a haircut. I haven't done anything to my hair for over a year. I went for the first time upon a recommendation of a friend and booked an appointment with JoJo. He was amazing! He took a look at my hair and told me what it was I needed to do. He suggested that I keep the hair long and add texture...and take off some of the weight. Had high hopes for this place, called today to make an appt at 2:30 with RayRay, he called to change it to 3 which was no big deal, came in and and staff was cold just told me to take a seat, RayRay came out after some time and told me he was running late which was fine but once it hit 3:30 i could tell he still wasn't done so I let the receptionist know I was leaving, during my half hour wait I wasn't offered anything to drink, or assigned to somebody else who maybe had more time for, from the looks of this place and reviews it looks like a high end salon so was a little disappointed with the customer service, and as a working busy mom it's hard to take time to make an appt so it was a complete waste of my time, too bad because this salon is 2 minutes from my house.
