Ah, the Filipino McDonalds. Thousands lusted after it when it was announced that Jollibee was coming to Hawaii. My first meal there was the spaghetti. Since it was Spaghetti in a fast food fried chicken and burger chain, I decided to abstain from writing a review until I tried their chicken that they were famous for. Do you guys remember that commercial that goes by...I feel like CHICKEN TONIGHT! Chicken TONIGHT! Well, that was exactly what I wanted. CHICKEN TONIGHT! So ordered the Chicken 1 combo which came with 2 pieces of fried chicken, a drink, and a side dish. The friend chicken's outside crust wasn't that good. It had the exact trademarks of things deep fried that were overcooked and was in older oil. The chicken was moist inside, but there was barely any flavor. The spaghetti I had the first time of my visit was unspectacular. There was nothing special about it. It just felt like spaghetti with some lighter ragu sauce. Service is unbearably slow and inefficient. This was the exact opposite of Popeyes where their service was unparalleled and served roughly the same type of food. For Jollibees, there were much clamoring and yelling between the workers getting things right and long lines of customers waiting for their orders. My boyfriend and I love Jollibee. We're from New York and when we found out there was Jollibee by Ala Moana beach, we were so happy to eat it after a hot day in the sun. We ordered our usual 3 pc chicken dippers spicy and the young male cashier served us. It was just as amazing as the one back home. Fast forward only TWO DAYS LATER. We wanted to get some Jollibee before our flight home. I ordered with an older female cashier who informs me that I can't get the chicken dippers spicy, only the chicken joy... I literally got it just two days before. So I called the Jollibee on North King Street to ask if they did the chicken dippers spicy, and they did. I asked for a manager and when I explained my situation politely, she gave me an annoyed face and began to call the other location. My son and I, ordered the usual filipino all time favorite chickenjoy, palabok and ryc. The order taker by the name of Jane told me that I have to wait for ten(10) minutes so I said yes I am willing to wait. The order taker asked my name and they will just call my name when my order is ready. After a long wait for the said ten (10) minutes waiting time, I noticed that it took me 30-40mins waiting and there was another batch of customers in line and waiting for their orders. I noticed that they ( staff and manager ) are busy chatting and laughing to whatever issues they might have.... As if they were searching for something and making fun of it... Despite of the delays of orders... Then, i noticed that there was one plastic bag left on the counter which has been there for 10mins, so i took the chance to ask the crew if that order is mine, and she said no, without checking my receipt. Then, i approached my order taker by the name of Jane if that plastic bag is my order and said no, that my chicken is still in the fryer. A customer approached the crew if her order is ready and the crew was about to give the customer the bag but uponchecking the receipt it wasn't for that customer, so the crew ask Jane ( the order taker ) who's order is this? The order taker checked the bag, and immediately said that it is for the customer named - Jhing. They called Jhing and luckily speaking that it is me, the same person who asked them if that bag was my order. What pissed me off? They have thenerve to say that they keep calling my name... I told them, " I was here standing in front of you and even asked you guys if that order is mine and you said no! " No one apologized even the manager or supervisor in charged. Their long awaited opening of this Filipino fast food chain at the Ala Moana Center Food Court (at least for some who know the brand and live nearby = me) has drawn the curious and Filipinos alike to try them out. As their sign says, Jollibee serves chicken and burgers (and a bit more like spaghetti, burger steak, fries, etc) and is well known for their Chicken Joy - deep fried chicken whose flavors are enhanced by their original gravy. The menu was simple enough, with combo meals offered for a variety of combinations (chicken and spaghetti, chicken and rice, etc). Despite the long line, servers were friendly and pleasant and knew how to handle tricky situations like running out of Chicken Joy when it happened to be our turn to order! I don't like Jollibee in the Philippines but somehow when I got here in Hawaii, I miss the taste of Chickenjoy. The service here is slow, that would explain why there's always a line of customers waiting there. I was once in line for more than 5 mins because they were using only one cashier out of the 3 they have. What's annoying is that I can see the other employees just chatting with themselves at the side, eating chips. I have bought Chickenjoy here a lot of times now but I will never forget this incident... Me: "6 pieces Chickenjoy please." Cashier: "4 piece Chickenjoy?" Me: "6 pieces" Cashier: "What? 4 pieces?" Me: "SIX! SIX!" You know what's funny about this? I don't even know why the cashier offered the "4 pieces" because that's not even in the menu! You can't go wrong with Jollibee! Jollibee opening in Ala Moana is definitely a lot more convenient for those who live town, which is AWESOME for me because I need my Jollibee-fix once in awhile. This location is sort of like a Jollibee express. Like the most eateries in the food court, Jollibee is has a walk-up counter. They do however have an additional line to stand in to order, a line that leads to a window. I first visited on the day they opened. Their menu was very minimal compared to their Waipahu location. They only had their 2-pc meal, 3-pc meal, spaghetti meal, a couple types of burgers, and a chicken piece choices available. If they did have it and you ordered it, the employees made it clear that it was such a hassle to make. Located in Makai Market (food court) at Ala Moana, this place is at the end of the short walkway between Häagen-Dazs and Paradise Bakery. My mom loves the chicken here so we always buy it for her. The chicken is good but not my favorite. When it comes to chicken, I think everything has their favorite whether it be church's, KFC, Popeye's, Zippy's, Safeway or here. On occasion, they have their chicken long rice soup which I really enjoy. I think the cashier said they only have it during winter time. It's only $2 for a small container but it's just enough as a side order to your meal. You can get a meal here for about $6 which is pretty cheap. I needed a quick and cheap bite to eat at Ala Moana the other day, and for anyone who's been in their food court... you know NOTHING in there is cheap. It had that same fuller taste that burgers at L&L and Loco Moco have. You know, not straight ground beef, but with cream crumbs in it. Almost like meatloaf. One of the best fast food joints in the business. Their burgers and fried chicken will not disappoint! My baby-daddy loves the tropical burger with the pineapple and I have to agree that it's pretty nomtastic! They also have cool Philippine-style fast food offerings that looked pretty tasty as well. I didn't have anymore room in my belleh to try these, but you might want to when it's your turn to visit any one of their establishments. My baby-daddy's mother also likes to bring home a ton of their burgers whenever she crosses the border and the burgers keep really well unlike any other fast food burgers that just get soggy and gross. Jollibee does not disappoint. I've had it in the Philippines, California, and Vegas...and now here! So close to home! This is their second location on Oahu and is as expected, smaller, since it is located in the Ala Moana Center food court. The first thing my mom mentions to me when she suggest we eat there is that they don't have her favorite food: Palabok (pala-book). Palabok consists of thick noodles, ground pork, pork broth, shrimp, fish sauce (I think), topped with pounded pork skins, boiled eggs, green onions, garlic, and other stuff. Yes...I'm salivating myself by that description. I can't wait for them to get it! What do I usually have? 2-pc chicken joy meal with mash potatoes and gravy. Oh delicious gravy and chicken... My mom and I bought two buckets of chicken to take home, which is a little pricey compared to Church's and KFC but still worth it. Chicken is crispy on the outside yet moist inside. But be warned if you suffer from IBS like Rueben Feffer from "Along Came Polly" skip the "spicy" version of the fried chicken, cuz the restrooms are a trek and a half away. Curiosity got the best of me as I went to go see what the hype was all about. Well,you know that phrase "Don't believe the hype!"....umm yea. As I took my first bite into the chicken thigh, I noticed a small crunch through the skin and into the meat which was bland. The upside was the moistness and tenderness of the chicken thigh. You would most definitely get better quality fried chicken at Zippy's or KFC. Perhaps that's why a side of gravy was provided even though I had not requested it. The gravy had an excessive peppery taste and would have further botched the chicken. The fries were also bland and no salt or pepper was provided nor did they ask if I wanted any. The corn was very buttery and was balanced out with just the right amount of salt but it's pretty hard to mess up on corn even if you tried. Best Jollibee! I used to stop by here with my son every weekend and they let you review for a free peach mango pie or sundae with receipt. Enjoy large portions and they have classic halo halo, jolly hotdog, and you can even request no shrimp on the classic palabok pansit noodles. The service sucks really bad. That supervisor named jhen is just very AWEFULL . . . It was 15 minutes before they close and they were telling all their customers that they were already close, and whatever they have on the food conveyor is all they got. So when it was my turn it 7 minutes before they closed and cashier told me they were close and I asked her what time they close and she said 9, I showed her my phone and told to check what time . . . and I asked for a customer service number so I could report it she didn't know what to say and yelled for supervisor. . So that person named Jhen came and was just really rude, had a confrontation with her and told me they will make my order and it will take 7 minutes. I told her I was already waiting in line for 8 minutes then might as well and she just walked away. I don't she should be managing that store if she can't deal with customers. Was in the mall and wanted to get a bite to eat and since we saw someone with a Jobillee bag walking by we decided to check it out. Parking: Tons of it free at Ala Moana Center. Park on the Makai side by food court Atmosphere: It's weird to think this space was a former little take out sushi stand. Since Jollibee took over the space its been turned into fast food central. Expect to see the line blocking the entrance to the food court right by Curry House. Service: There was a line but it moves pretty quickly. I was surprised to see how many employees they had working in such a little space. I chose a standard hamburger combo and although I turned down the 0.25$ add on for larger drink I think the guy gave it to me anyways. One positive of Jollibee is that they write next to every menu item the calorie intake. Price: Prices here are pretty cheap as long as you stick with burgers. My standard hamburger combo (think somewhere near a bigger adult version of Happy Meal) came out to under 4$. If I went with a bigger burger or cheese I think it would be under $5. The chicken combos weren't that bad either with a 2pc going for under $5 I think. Compared to Popeyes or KFC the chicken combos were pretty cheap. Food: Think of Jollibee Popeyes meets Mcdonalds + some spaghetti. Since I only had the burger & fries I can't comment on the popular chicken. The French fries came out on the soggier side but they did remind me of Jack in a Box fries. Kind of a downer. The burger which did have a nice charbroiled taste to it was alright but nothing magical. A friend of mine was referring to some special sauce that Jollibee puts on the burgers but I couldn't find anything. FYI the standard burger came with lettuce, fries and tomato along with some ketchup. I didn't have the chicken but the batter and style of it reminded me of Popeyes more then KFC.
