2018: 3.7 stars: First timer. You can tell the management/owner has taken comments about the cleanliness of the establishment to heart. They have made a strong effort to keep it clean. I walked in and there was someone sweeping and I could smell the cleaning products (which is a negative, but I honestly can't fault a place for trying to keep clean in this circumstance). I came because I love the local Halal Guys franchise and wanted to compare. Had the chicken over rice. I will say that while i liked the food, I don't think i'm going to switch from the Halal Guys. I'm not a stuck up person, but I can't help but feel worried about my stomach now. Only thing disappointing is the long wait for your food. My co-worker and I happened to be in the area and immediately when we passed by, I told her we gotta come here. She was hesitant because the store front did not look appealing. But she did finally agree. I told her back in the day, this place was popping because it stayed open pretty late and sometimes we get large catering orders from here. To my surprise when we walked in, it was dead but thank goodness the establishment looked cleaned otherwise, I would not hear the end of it! I wanted kabobs but the lady behind the counter told me there will be a 15+ minutes wait. We did not have that kind of time was expected to head back to the office. So we both settle for chicken over regular rice and falafel. While she was ringing us up, other people started walking in and people were pulling up through the drive through. She was trying hard to multi-task and I watched her get flustered so fast. Finally two other workers came out to assist while the cashier lady was taking other people orders. We saw the cook drop a fresh batch of falafel in the fryer which made my tummy flutter while the other cook was making our rice bowl. He kindly asked if we wanted spicy rice or regular rice, then our fresh veggie topping, then the white sauce. He did not offer any spicy sauce which I was okay with since I didn't want any heart burn later. We end up getting our food pretty quick and I was anxious to dive in. Falafel was good and hot. Our rice dish was luke warm and I cannot stand luke warm food. It was edible and since we were on a time crunch, i did not want to bring it back to them to asked for it to be warmer. We quickly ate and got to-go containers for us to take back. Later I learned my co-worker end up nuking her food in our kitchen and she said she finished her meal. I'm glad she end up liking it after I bragged how I remember it being good. Mine end up coming home with me for dinner. After I warmed it up, it did end up tasting much better but not as good as I remember it. 3.5 stars for me! I wanted to try it based on the yelp reviews! The restaurant itself is not very clean looking, and there were dirty tables from previous diners that had not been cleared! Big pet peeve of mine! We ordered a a small chicken and rice bowl, small lamb and rice bowl, and an order of fried chicken wings. We had never tried halal food and are not familiar with the sauces so we opted to go for non spicy rice and the white and red sauces on the side. Unfortunately, as much as I didn't want to, we had to dine in because we drove 30 minutes to try this place out. I must say the food was really good! Next time I will definitely order my rice bowl with the white sauce, it was a creamy bunch of goodness! We both preferred the lamb bowl over the chicken, as it had more flavor! I really did like the fried chicken wings, we both thought they were cooked really well, and I liked the seasoning they sprinkled over therm. I think they should sprinkle more of that seasoning on the wings as a matter of fact. I will probably return if I'm in that area, but I wont go out of my way for the food! I was half expecting some less than favorable tastes from the lamb over mixed rice but I was pretty surprised that it was really moist and went really well with the creamy sour cream sauce they lather over the top of the lamb. WARNING: the TOGO option is really awkward and weird, don't expect them to promptly bring out the food if it's remotely busy inside. I have no idea, but what I do know is that it is delicious. The chicken wings are good, but I wish it had more flavor. I could do with more spices, I might have been a little underwhelmed since I was expecting Indian curry spices but those expectation were not met. I just had this place after a strong recommendation from a friend. It did not disappoint. If you can get over the decor and uncleanliness of this joint, you can find yourself in flavor heaven as well. I actually get grossed out by sticky tables but that didnt stop me. I had the large lamb over spicy rice. Everything was on point in terms of flavor. The lamb more along the schwarma side than actualy pieces of lamb meat. The portion was definintely more than enough for one person, while costing only 6.99+ tax. I only have a couple things that I would knock about this place. Whether you like it or not, your food will be drenched in their tzatzikiIf sauce. so if it's the first time - you might want to ask for it on the side. I actually did not care of the sauce either, it was too much like ranch in terms of taste and consistency for me to want to eat on my food. I did not enjoy the experience overall. I might give this place another shot, but not likely. The Halal Guys is FAR better with regard to flavor, professionalism & cleanliness! If Jones Fried Chicken wants to significantly improve their business, I recommend they remodel their establishment (since an out of order restroom stall sits in middle of the downstairs area) and for a first timer, it wasn't intuitive where the line began or ended. Since JFC has so many other food choices, perhaps more employees to help move the line along. The food is still legit. It seemed less greasy than previously. We ordered one large spicy lamb and another large spicy lamb/chicken combo. I prefer the lamb, but the chicken isn't bad. Both meats were very tender. Other than the cleanliness(or rather dirtiness) of the building, my other concern was when I asked for extra sauce. I like spicy so when I asked for extra red sauce the worker stopped everything he was doing, looked me straight in the eye, and slowly said, "I gave you two. I'll give you one more." It doesn't sound that weird, but his delivery made me feel awkward. Plus, I ordered two dishes, so you weren't doing me a huge flavor giving me one more red sauce. I hate to admit that Jones has become a 3 star to me :( I use to love the lamb over spicy rice and have it pretty regularly. Over time, the consistency has been lacking like crazy and they've become super particular about everything. they pack in mostly rice, which often is over and under spiced and have been skimping on the meat. I have had Jones chicken a couple times now, I have tried their lamb over rice, chicken over rice beef kebob over rice and their wings. Their spicy rice is no joke. That sucka is spicy ! Coming from someone who eat spicy food all her life ! I still order spicy rice every time I go. Beef kabob takes 20 minutes, beef kabob is actually pretty good. I mean the cut of meat used for beef kabob is not the most tender cut of meat. The white sauce is thicker than the one at halal guys and can be quite overpowering. I ordered lamb over rice. Lamb is actually pieces of lamb meatballs (something like kofta) so taste of lamb is not very strong. White sauce is sort of gunky, not sure what is in it, kind of a mix between Alfredo sauce and tzatziki :-\:-PI ordered it"hot" and boy the rice does have a kick. It is a dry burning spiciness, without any trace of sweetness or sourness (as you have in Siracha or Tabasco). It reminds me a little of the Mala 麻辣 in Szechwan cooking,but of course without the numbness. Be careful with it, you *will* feel it in the stomach later! As far as the décor, this place is much cleaner than I expected, especially considering how dumpy it looks on the outside. It's cleaner than the Whataburger next door, which has been there for ages. Nice unexpected discovery. Wonder if this will draw more middle Eastern restaurants to the area(as a lifelong resident I hope so!). Four stars. This is by far one of the best halal places I have been too. Yes the outside looks shady a bit ghetto but looks can be deceiving! I always order the large chicken n lamb rice combo (with the spicy rice of course). You get a good ratio of rice and meat served with salad (lettuce, tomato, and corn) and drenched in white sauce. Absolutely delicious. The meat is nice and tender, and the rice is spicy enough to give u a little kick. Make sure to get the extra white sauce and red sauce on the side. The red sauce is super spicy so you only need to put a little bit on but if you put too much just add a little more white sauce to balance it out. Highly recommended! read more
