Its actually one of the best place in flushing for korean bbq. We got invited for a dinner and my friend pick this place. We went without expecting so much because of the reviews but we really enjoyed the food. The place is big and clean. Food: we got the large pork platter and marinated beef platter. This is good for 4 to 5 people. It was a lot of delicious meat. Each piece is heavenly! They cooked it base on your preference. The server is very nice and attentive and constantly checking up on us. We got 2 lunch box- it has rice, hotdog, anchovy and egg. I got tofu seafood stew and its always my favorite soup everytime I go to any korean restaurant. Came here twice as a party of 2 when indoor dining was open. My first time here was a really great experience. Our server was so attentive and cooked our food to near perfection. Food: Kalbi is my favorite kbbq dish so I was nervous about how it'd turn out (I've had poorly cooked kalbi before at kbbq places), but it was *chef's kiss.* just the right amount of chewiness and so juicy and flavorful. The USDA prime bulgogi is quite massive. It had been cooking for a while and looked kinda dried out, but it was actually very flavorful and moist. " Pricey, Premium, Good Quality Meats... " We walked into Jongro BBQ on a Sunday night and were able to score a bench booth at the rear end of the dining room. Most times, you will find that There is plenty of parking in the H-Mart anchored outdoor retail mall location where this " Gangnam Street BBQ " is located. We were greeted by a nice hostess who verified vaccination credentials and quickly took our seats while loud electro beats were banging loudly on the speakers. Ambiance wise, if that is how a patio in the Gagnam district in South Korea is like, I will be booking a flight to Seoul soon! So, with all this hype and fanfare, why only the three stars? It is mostly for the service or lack thereof - which is a large part of the experience at a Korean BBQ. Our guests didn't know the menu or how to order and it was hard to find a staff member that didn't have a language barrier to explain the cuts of meats or how things work in English. Service is " you order by number, we serve ", almost like keep it brief and let's get on with it lol. If you forget about that, hard to but yes, in theory there is a tiny, small, very remote, potential, possible chance that you could, then everything is great! The menu seems to have changed over the past year; we noticed to short rib beef soup and raw beef combo meat tray were no longer offered. In lieu, Trays of à la carte raw meat are ordered from a newer pictorial menu, then grilled and sliced table-side by Gongro staff. That part was fantastic and robotic, with little interaction. We ordered the pricey premium ribeye steak ($43), Kalbi ($39) bulgogi for two ($55) and the colossal shrimp scampi ($23), the assorted mushroom variety platter ($25) was way overpriced for what it is; we will skip that next time. Overall, The meat quality was very good; although for the price, the ribeye fat quantity vs consumable meat was not of good value. The staff at the grilling station were very attentive by cooking and slicing the meat for us; changing the mesh grill to a cast iron searing pan between kalbi and ribeye cookouts; while the marinated bulgogi tray and its fixings were simmering on the adjacent gas carrier. The colossal shrimp scampi were tasty and made for a Nice ending to the red meat fest. With the exception of the very " mayonnaisey " macaroni salad, the Side dishes included spicy tofu soup, kimchi, marinated onions, broccoli, onion salad and sliced radishes; they were great and complimented the meats nicely. There were hand sanitizer dispensers at each table; nice touch! Gongro offers a great festive ambiance and premium, pricey, good quality meats. BUT and yes sometimes there is always a BUT - so but; Gongro falls short on the service - to match. We would definitely come back as long we don't have guests who need help to better understand the menu or needing a little communication in english for the ordering or cooking phases of the meal experience. read more

Jongro BBQ was a bit of a let down for me recently. I remember this place being much better. We were a group of 4 plus one small child. They offered a high chair or booster seat for my friend's 2 year old, but I wouldn't say Jongro is the most kid friendly place. The meat was quality, but very expensive. You would think that paying the prices we were paying they would be much more generous with their side dishes, but we found that we had to share many dishes amongst the four of us. I think if they provided the same side dishes per couple, we wouldn't feel as ripped off. I honestly prefer going to all you can eat establishments because you kind of know what you are getting, and don't have to constantly ask to replenish things. Service was good as the waiter was attentive to our grill, but overall, I'd give my entire experience a 3/5, and probably wouldn't come back. read more

We came here Friday night at 6:30pm. No wait. Food is mediocre. Definitely not the best Korean BBQ in flushing. Seafood pancake is thick and full of starch. The most annoying thing is that the fans were not working. I asked the server if our fan was off because apparently it's not sucking the smoke. And the server was like, yea it's working. I thought I was paranoid until mid dinner the entire restaurant was so smoky that my eyes were getting teary. I noticed people behind us were fanning with their napkin. Jongro used to be the go-to place for Korean BBQ on Northern Blvd. We still visit any time a friend from outer boroughs come visit, and so we did just that this past weekend for Sunday lunch. We were sat in the corner of the restaurant, but it didn't matter as long as we get the same service as everyone else. As soon as we sat down, we knew what we wanted to order since we've been here dozens of times. We see three waiters chatting amongst themselves, and tried to get their attention by waving, and calling out "hello, excuse me". One of the guys saw us and just carried on with his conversation. The girl did see us eventually and took down our orders. While they were putting down side dishes, we asked for sesame oil sauce for everyone at the table, "4, please". Ten minutes later, one of the waiters came to flip the meat on the grill, and we asked him again, "4 sesame oil sauces please". He looked annoyed and said "you should ask for everything together. Now I'd have to go all the way back to the kitchen to get this for you." I have never experienced such attitudes from any companies in the service industry. I guess if we had complained about our "corner" seating, he didn't have to walk that far? (Why is it the customers' problem any how?) Great customer service. The food service is amazingly fast. This is perfect for hangry people. The banchan were limited but still interesting. We ordered seafood tofu stew, seafood pancake, bibimbop, and a beef and pork combo. I loved the seafood tofu stew, the seafood pancake and the bibimbop but not so much the meat. I thought Korean bbq would be the exception but I guess my palate has no space for meat anymore. Everyone I was with loved it. I loved making the lettuce wraps but ended up making it with no meat. I usually go to the location in Manhattan but I think this location is better since there's more seating, less people, and better service. I came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch with a group of 4 people. We ordered the marinated kalbi (spicy), the seafood pancake, two seafood tofu stews, beef tofu stew, and the eel dolsot (hot stone bowl) bibimbap. The marinated kalbi was juicy and flavorful. The seafood pancake was crispy and full of seafood. The tofu stews had a lot of ingredients and the broth was flavorful. The eel bibimbap had a lot of veggies and the rice was super crispy. Service was fast and friendly. The service button was very useful and it's easier than trying to flag down someone (I don't like to come off as a demanding customer haha). Went here with a few friends this weekend. Short wait, good service. Food was good, in addition to the BBQ we got the scallion pancakes and glass noodles and they were both really well done. We then tried Cast Iron down the street but that was also crowded - so we settled on Jongro to accommodate our party of 3 - we were starving and cold so didn't want to stray too far. The place reminds me of the Manhattan location with the ambiance. You use the button on the wall at your table to signal a staff member. They mainly speak Korean but some do speak English. When I saw this place only had 3 1/2 stars, I was skeptical about going here, but they've proved the rating both right and wrong. Cons: The service is mediocre - they took our first order quickly, but when we needed more no one would come even when we pushed the button at the table to call service. Even when they did take our next order, no one would bring it to us, so we'd have to order it again. At one point the music was turned up so high I couldn't hear the people sitting across from me, but I didn't notice it later on in the night. Pros: The food is amazing though and I didn't realize their meats don't have antibiotics in them, which makes this place even better. We got a few orders of different beefs, 2 pitchers of Hite beer and one of the cold buckwheat noodles and one spicy green tea noodles. Everything was amazing! Celebrated a birthday here recently. We had passed by it many times before but had never gone in and I'm so glad we decided to try it because the food was delicious and the service was great. The lunch combos were actually a really good deal. We had a pitcher of the house draft which I really enjoyed...it had a slight lemony hint to it which went perfectly with my spicy meal. First time here, we ordered a plate of the USDA Prime Kalbi and the marinated Pork. the USDA Prime Kalbi was OK, but because it wasn't marinated, it lacked flavor. the Marinated Pork on the other hand, was quite tasty. I would get marinated beef next time. Their steamed egg was pretty cool, they actually cook it on the table unlike many other BBQ restaurants where it is cooked inside the kitchen and bought to you. They also serve pretty decent amount of banchan so we were very full at the end. All of meats were pretty good and I love steamed egg. The reason for 3 stars, there was cooked onion at where they turn up the heat from whoever was here before us and obviously they didn't clean that up when previous customer left or even when our waiter turn on the heat and onion was right there so we actually asked someone to pick it up. There's only been a handful of places that can do the seafood pancake right, even in Korea this was difficult to come across, but Jongro did it......the first visit. The second visit, the pancake was raw in the centre and had retained too much oil which was unpleasant to say the least. The price point is very good for the food overall, the interior decor was very reminiscent of Jongro/insadong area in Seoul too which I liked. From what I saw of others ordering the bbq meat sets, the quality looked good and was plentiful. Stopped by for dinner for 2 on a Thursday night. The place wasn't too busy so we were seated right away. I had looked up their menu online beforehand & inquired about their Set Menu. But was told it was only available in their Manhattan location.. We ordered the following: -Seafood pancake -USDA Beef Brisket -Pork Jowl -Marinated Kalbi The seafood pancake was great, it had a nice crispy exterior. The brisket was cooked rather quickly & then placed on the side of the grill. We found it kind of dry & chewy. Next was the pork jowl, it was better than the brisket but still lacked in flavor unless paired with some of the side dishes and sauces. Finally came the kalbi. It also lacked in flavor and we had to utilize the sauces to make it better. I appreciated how attentive the servers were. They were constantly walking around & keeping an eye on our grills to make sure the meat wasn't overcooking. I also appreciated that they changed the grill before cooking each new meat item. Overall I thought the meat quality was mediocre. Nothing really stood out to me during my meal, which was disappointing since they advertise "premium fresh meat".
