Another 5 star review for one of my favorite places in NYC. In my opinion, the flushing location is the best kbbq in the city. I've been here countless times and the food and service are always stellar. Jongro is not one of my favorites in terms of quality or taste, however, easy parking (inside of a shopping plaza) brings me back every once in a while. This past Wednesday night, I stopped by with a group of four and enjoyed some outdoor dining under their large tent. The table was full of various bbq meats while the cups were always filled to the brim with soju. By the end of the night, we had nearly polished off all of our food, which included the following. Short ribs - ok, but not the most tender I've had Marinated short ribs - good flavor and tender Beef brisket - cooked table side, fatty but tasty Beef tongue - cooked table side, nothing special Pork belly - overcooked and not crispy Pork jowl - overcooked and very dry Seafood pancake - crispy but lacked seafood flavor Short rib soup - helped with all the grease Side dishes - small variety and not very good One major issue of cooking outside was that I saw the chef at the bbq grill constantly dowsing the coals with lighter fluid. It just simply adds a very unpleasant taste to our meats. I know it's Covid times and I'll give them a pass. However, they need to invest into a few chimney fire starters rather than what they are currently doing. With that all said, the service was attentive and the tent was spacious with good distancing between tables. Their prices were always reasonable, though the portions feel a bit smaller (I could be wrong) coming out on a cast iron pan. When I entered Jongro on a Saturday night for a table of 4, I was seated immediately. There were tables with BBQ grills with most tables fitting up to 4 customers and a few tables fitting parties of 6+. This is a predominately Korean bbq restaurant so expect to order at least two meats for your table. The meat selection is small and the proportions of meat per order are slim relative to other Korean bbq restaurants. The haemul pajeon or seafood pancake was delicious, crispy and could use a bit more scallions. The kalbi beef bibimbap came in a stone bowl (dolsot) which made the rice on the bottom crispy. I prefer the traditional bulgogi beef bibimbap but if you like crispy rice and chunky pieces of meat the kalbi bibimbap is a good option. Last note to add- the environment is like a sauna in there. It was probably 80+ degrees from all the heat and table stovetops. Make sure you're wearing layers that could be removed if coming in the winter. Everyone in a sweater was boiling hot. read more

Came here on a Saturday night around 8:30 PM. I've eaten here once before and remember the meat quality being very good, but the price being a bit high. I usually lean towards AYCE restaurants when it comes to KBBQ, but every now and then I like to splurge a bit more on higher quality food. As expected, the food was great. Unfortunately, the experience was tainted by the service & environment. Walking in, there was nobody else in the waiting area. There was a staff at the counter who was putting some check payments into the system. He did not even look up to greet or to tell us to give him a moment, while we stood there in front of him for at least a minute. Finally, he came around and had us put our names on the waiting list. By now, I'm already turned off and that's an automatic minus 1 star. But hopefully, food can redeem! We got an order of pork belly, USDA Prime kalbi marinated, and one with no marinade, for our meat. We also ordered a spicy green tea cold noodle and a kimchi pork belly bibimbap. All the food came out quick. Pork belly up first- I was shocked at how much oil was splattering. I always expect some splatters when I go KBBQ, but this was crazy! And I ain't no crybaby I think. I was moving around on my bench but it was unavoidable to be pained every 10 seconds or so. Alas, the pain was somewhat worth because the pork belly was amazing. Perfectly fatty and high quality. The two kalbis were also fantastic and tasted like butter melting in my mouth. I thought the marinade would be necessary, but the plain one was just as impressive. The cold noodle and bibimbap were also delicious and huge portioned. Good side for our meats. They also include a steamed egg and other little banchans. The service stayed unimpressive. When they finished cooking the meat, they just kind of left it there silently expecting us to know it was ready for eating. We also had one guy who tried to grill kimchi for us, but he left and never came back so it all burned. We did have one girl with blonde hair who was leagues above the rest. She helped us more towards the end. Another odd thing I observed is that the floor is really slippery. I was wearing sneakers and noticed it a little bit. But then i saw a girl in sandals on my way to the bathroom and she literally looked like she was iceskating. Too much oil splatter? Also the ventilation is weak; at some points the whole restaurant looked super steamy. Also, they closed at 11, but by 10 they were cleaning from our table, music was turned off, and the check was given. I'm not sure if I'd return. Came here with family for an early weekend dinner. Food is okay. Didn't think the meats were the best and definitely not one of the better Korean bbq places around. I did like the mini grill for the eggs and soups. We got kalbi and pork belly, both were okay. Inside is pretty big and designed quite nicely. Can probably fit pretty large parties! We went to another Korean restaurant a few nights ago but it didn't satisfy our craving so we came here. Service and food was a great experience compared to what we had. It wasn't crowded when we arrived and we asked to sit outside but we're denied cause we would be the only ones outside but since it wasn't too crowded inside we were fine with that. Service was fantastic as we decided to do bbq. Side dishes were refilled often as was the tea. The waiters came by often and made sure we were good...food was very nice as well. The food here is fantastic. When I tell you the meat is so tender and cooked to perfection, I really mean it. They serve you with unlimited sides, as per korean restaurants, but they were so good. The samgyeopsal, pork belly, and galbi are soo good. I've never had a meat-melting-in-your-mouth experience, but the galbi here did it for me. Jongro BBQ is a classic chain for Korean BBQ that does not do AYCE. They have locations throughout New York and this one you can find near the mall on Northern Boulevard. We went with a party of 8 people and they do reservations if you call ahead. Because we were celebrating a birthday, we brought a cake, which they took with them and did a birthday celebration at the end of our meal where they put on a birthday song and took out a sprinkler candle. For a party of 8, I will say that the tables are a little cramped. They had two grills for us but the space where you put the side dishes and meats were getting very packed. They do a good job of coming around and making space but it was hard for us to find the space to put food that continued to come. Meats were fresh and done well. They come around and grill for you so you don't have to worry about that. Prices are pretty standard for city korean bbq prices (ranging from $50+ per person including tax and tip and contingent on what you order) but overall, it is a great place to have good bbq food and mingle with friends. Came here for Mother's Day. We ordered the large platter (see pic) instead each of the meats individually. Part of it was the curiosity to find out if you got the same amount as ordering ala carte. While each of the meats were delicious, the Prime ribeye was the best. The brisket while good felt lacking with the amount provided with our platter. Table next to us ordered brisket and had double the amount. They definitely did not order the same platter as us but on our next visit we will order ala carte to compare. Great Korean barbeque spot in Queens. It's located right off of Northern blvd and is convenient since it's in a plaza with multiple other stores and restaurants so there's a large parking lot available. Typically the wait isn't long but can be a little longer for a larger party. The staff is very kind and accommodating but service is kind of slow. There's a button on the table to get the attention of the staff but they get pretty busy so it may still take a while before they even get to your table. The heat that comes off of the grill is incredibly hot and although there is a fan, it doesn't help much since there's not much space between the seats and the grill. The meats here are nicely cut and grilled in front of you. The staff makes sure that the meat is grilled properly before advising you to eat it. Many ban chans (sides) are also placed to the table which are delicious for making a wrap with the meat. The seafood pancake is smaller than most places but is still crispy and tasty! The tofu soup is decent and the seafood noodles barely have any seafood in it. It only has a few small pieces of claims and squid. The meats are on the pricier side but definitely fill you up. We came here on 9/24/2022, Saturday, around 8pm. And it was one of the worst experience with Jongro by far. We got the marinated kalbi and the beef belly, and the mushroom. While the food was amazing, the service was not. We were not sure if the waiter was new or not, but he definitely was not good at his job. We were wondering why he did not come back to grill the rest of the meats, he was pacing back and forth, smiling to his colleagues for more than 10 minutes. It took us long enough to realize it was because he was waiting for us to finish up our mushrooms on the grill. HOWEVER, any other waiters/waitress would have just scooped whatever that's cooked onto another plate and starts grilling again. For him, he just decided to look pretty. He finally started grilling our marinated kalbi. It might have taken him too long to take the next table's order and forgot about our kalbi. The moment he came back, he started to cut off the burnt parts... We rang our bell for more water, and no answer. I stared at our table number and no one came.... Table 16, people!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know. I mean it was not a cheap dinner for three. Did the food taste good? I did love the beef belly! But would I ever go back again? Most likely not. read more

My first impression of Jongro BBQ wasn't that strong when they first opened; there are so many options in Flushing for Korean BBQ that unless there's something standout about the establishment, I usually forget about it and just frequent my normal spots. But throughout the years, several friends have suggested that we go so I find that I've frequented numerous times now and each time with positive experiences so my opinion of said establishment has gone up. There's ample parking due to them sharing the lot with HMart, Mekong and other various businesses. That is a huge plus in Flushing as we all know, especially compared to Murray Hill! Also, in all the times I've gone, there's never been a wait which is also gratifying seeing as how other KBBQ places can have wait times of an hour (or more) and refuses to take reservations. We always get the set menus - either beef or pork depending on what we're in the mood for. It would be great if one of their sets had a mix of beef or pork... but none of the places I've ever been to does that. (Let me know if I'm mistaken!) The meat quality is good and the set menu gives you a variety of cuts. The service is quick, efficient and not overbearing. They pretty much come to the table to help you cook the meat, cut it and let you know when it's ready to be devoured... other than that, they leave you alone. The side dishes are numerous and they are happy to refill a couple of favorites for you (pickled peppers FTW!) I like that they serve premium soju (25% and 17%). I would stick with the regular soju most times as the premium is much pricier than the regular, but it's worth a try. F and I tried the 17% and thought it was more akin to sake; I'll try the 25% next time to satisfy my curiosity. Overall, I will probably keep frequenting Jongro for its ease of access. read more

I usually go to Jongro's Manhattan location, but decided to try out the Flushing location one day since I was in the area. I've always been super happy and satisfied with my experiences at the Manhattan location, and expected my meal at the Flushing location to be more or less the same. Unfortunately, I was slightly disappointed for a number of reasons. One of my favorite things to get at the Manhattan location is their set combo of either beef or pork cuts. It really eliminates a lot of the decision-making process for me, and all of the individual cuts taste great. However, for reasons unknown, the Flushing location doesn't have this option for customers. It's not a big deal, or a factor that majorly impacted how I felt about the experience, but nevertheless something I felt was worth mentioning. I ended up getting an array of menu items: the kimchi pancake, a bowl of cold noodles, and several cuts of meat. The food was all solid, but unlike at the Manhattan location, I didn't feel like any individual item stood out as spectacular. The portions were a little bit smaller than I expected as well. All in all, the meal wasn't bad, and did its job in filling me up. A nice place to go for people that are driving! There's a large parking lot, shared by many other stores in this lot. It took us under 2 minutes to find parking on a busy Sunday afternoon. No wait for seats. Food here was pretty good. There were quite a few banchan dishes. The radishes tasted like wasabi, but was very refreshing. My favorite was the jelly. We ordered a seafood pancake, a large bbq platter, pork belly, soju, and a pitcher of beer. I personally did not love the pork belly. The servers were pretty attentive and all very friendly.
