We love Joseph's! Food is super good and so is the service. We had several appetizers, the chicken pozole special and the lamb burger. All were excellent. This is our second time to Joseph's. The group decided to share a few entrees since everything in the menu looks so amazing. We couldn't pass the duck pad thai (it's just so good), so we ordered that plus the weekly special (seared sushi grade blue fin tuna) and the pan seared duck breast. I was debating between the duck pad Thai and the duck breast last time, but went with the noodle dish thinking I would get duck in either but the noodle dish sounds more flavorful. But I was so wrong about the pan seared duck breast - it's seared perfectly! Crispy on the skin, just the right amount of duck fat, and tender meat. I grew up eating a lot of duck dishes - getting this perfect balance in texture is not an easy task! Plus, the dish does not taste greasy at all even with the duck fat under the skin. It's so beautifully done! Oh yes - the rice is so delicious. Joseph's is one of my favorites in town - next time I go, I'll be back to the starting point - debating whether I should get the duck breast or the duck pad Thai! read more

Delicious food and perfect service! The food was perfection and the staff was all very friendly. I really enjoyed the menu I don't think there is a single dish you could order here and not love. You just might love some more depending on your mood and taste. I think one of the head waiters is married to the manager anyway both were very sweet and know their stuff and it shows. I could have not asked for a more perfect meal after a day looking at museums with my mother. I think my mother thought the lemon tart could be sweeter, but I tend to like things less sweet and preferred it that way. That's the only critique I can dig up. I hope to come back again! read more

Some clients brought me here to dinner as this is their favorite place in Santa Fe for a casual yet sophisticated pub meal. They managed to get bar seating at the last minute for opening time, and their favorite tender was serving which made it more fun to meet locals. A robust menu for food and drinks, with great wines by the glass on offer. The food was absolutely fantastic. Started with Duck Fat Fries and Polenta Fries. The polenta fries come in four huge pieces surrounding grilled radicchio drizzled with Gorgonzola - must eat with fork and knife. Amazing! Then the French fries cooked in duck fat were quite easily the tastiest fries you'll ever have. For the main all of us had the NM Lamb Burger with green chiles and goat cheese. Honest to god I thought I died after biting into it - the most mouth watering, juicy burger I've ever had anywhere. I wanted to order a second one, and might go back again on this trip to have it again. There are many great choices so I see why these locals come here so often. Since it was the weekend, we had a trio of deserts. The butterscotch pudding is the fan favorite, super rich and best if shared since you'll only want a couple of bites unless you plan to drop down on both knees and beg Heavenly Father for forgiveness.... The other two we tried were the chocolate terrine which was 4//5, a bit too dark for my liking but overall excellent; and then the cloud cake which was like a fluffy meringue. I'm not a fan of meringue but this was pretty good - the one person isn't the group with the least sweet tooth ate most of it! Although this culinary pub is a casual establishment, the food was amazing and so was the service. I had an excellent time here for an early Sunday dinner, and I'm so glad we were able to get a reservation on open table for the same day. Parking was a bit tricky due to its location near the church, but we were happy to walk a block away. Once inside, I noticed all of the lovely copper cookware hanging and a black chalkboard with a drawing of a fish above the description for the special of the day. We started with the delicious chicken liver mousse and duck fat fries. Both were perfect starters after a super light lunch and were very flavorful, but not too heavy. For my entree, I had the special which was Mahi-mahi. This was served with a cauliflower purée and black rice with some green beans and peppers. I loved the combination of textures and elements in this dish. The chicken breast was also equally good and presented beautifully. I can't wait to go back and try more items! read more

We sat at the bar, had a lovely interaction with the bartender who helped steer us through the menu and also talked about the drinks and the local spirits. Everything was going great until the manager, decided that it was appropriate to berate and demean several staff members loud enough that it made us and a few others uncomfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the food we ate and the drinks we had, but I do suggest that the owner rethink their choice of managers. I would understand if they have issues keeping staff. read more

Our waiter was clearly not terribly busy as he was often seen lounging at the bar, but service was weak enough to suggest that he might've been extraordinarily pressed. He also seem to take a great deal of interest in my girlfriend, who admittedly is extraordinarily hot but not sufficient to forgive cold entrees. Based on my history as an elite reviewer, it is apparent we eat out often. My review would have been 3 stars but when you have the manager of a restaurant tell you they are not sorry for your experience at their establishment, I cannot in good conscience, give them a better review. The restaurant came highly recommended. We booked a reservation for 7:45, on Saturday 2/18. This was a $216 meal. We were visiting from out of town. Joseph's is located in an old building and this presents some issues. There is no vestibule or waiting area. While we were eating our meal, we had people standing in front of our table, waiting to be seated. It was apparent from the start that they were short handed or overwhelmed. It took a good 10-15 mins. Passed the time we ordered our drinks until we received them. Our main proteins (duck and chicken) were delicious, although the accompaniments were Luke warm. We also ordered a bottle of wine with dinner and it was never poured again after the initial time. My husband ordered a bourbon for desert. The restaurant doesn't have a large cube, surprising when you serve bourbon regularly , but the pour was ridiculous. Not any where near a "regular " pour. When we refused it, the manager told us it was "a large glass and that was a standard pour." My husband then said, that is a joke, I am sorry. Then he corrected himself, I am not sorry and she said, I am not sorry either. " We are not here to be abused." What? We told you something you didn't want to hear and that is your response? Your job calls for decorum and a degree of humility. Ma'am you had neither. You were unprofessional. read more

This is a quaint dimly lit fine dinning experience. The architecture is typical Santa Fe southwestern and it is well decorated. There is a lot of off street parking, which is rare in this part of Santa Fe. The service was attentive and the food came out timely. The pricing was what would be expected. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We had rolls and butter to start. The butter was infused with herbs and I could have eaten that all day. We split clams and duck fat fries after. The broth that the clams were in was even more amazing than the butter. We used it to dip the fries in and then finished it as a soup once all the fries and clams were gone. I ordered the rabbit lasagna and my guest ordered the scallops. Both dishes were wonderful. The flavors were strong and well developed. The rabbit even had a little spice to it that was just right. We chose JCP for our Valentine's and birthday celebration dinner and glad they were able to provide us good food especially when great dining options (even for take outs!) were so limited in Santa Fe. We loved that they do have changing specials menu that got updated on a weekly basis and they had options that really took and followed COVID's measure seriously (like no indoor dining when the country was still in red zone for COVID). We ordered 2 each of appetizers, mains and desserts and tried everything for our dinner. What we thought were clear winnings though we're the appetizers. We thought they were not only fresh and tasty..but we're priced at somewhat reasonable prices. The main courses (steak au poivre and crispy chicken) were good but somewhat bland and we thought we may be able to cook those ourselves..and the price points were a bit high. But hey..it's special occasion dining event..we've gotta try them! The desserts were good..but I was hoping they were plated/decorated differently for each dessert choice. I liked the tres leches mousse (tasted more like cake with strong coffee syrup flavor like tiramisu) but maybe overpowering the berry sauce. The chocolate cake was ok. I may skip it next time as both my partner and I thought it seemed a little too dry. Overall though..both my partner and I wanted to go dine at JCP again..maybe when their dining venue reopens up. We would probably order dishes along the line of small/appetizer dishes with drinks..and maybe a dessert though as we felt we both loved their smaller dishes more. read more

We were fortunate to be able to get a last minute reservation at Joseph's and everything about our dinner was perfection. From the manager who greeted us, to our server who was engaging and helpful, to the bus person who was totally on top of every detail ... and we haven't even talked about the food yet. We started with the tamale, which was crisp and flavorful to perfection, then the deconstructed roasted ratatouille, which was otherworldly (and the portion is huge and easy to share) and then the duck pad Thai ... so inventive (and also generously sized. We had to try the butterscotch pudding and it was worth the hype and couldn't say no to a scoop of duck fat caramel ice cream (OMG). Joseph came out to chat with us and we felt like family. I love that so much is gluten free (for my GF and celiac friends), and thought the value for this level of quality and service exceeded expectations. From start to finish, every dish we ordered surpassed our expectations in both flavor and presentation. My 12-year-old declared it the finest meal he has ever experienced, while my wife was thoroughly delighted with everything she ordered. Between a couple of dishes that weren't executed (or conceived of) all that expertly, a menu whose dots were somewhat difficult for us to connect, and a server who seemed uninterested in helping us connect those dots, Joseph's might have been the most disappointing dining experience of an eight-day New Mexico trip. That's not to say it was terrible or even bad. But based on what we'd heard and read about, our expectations were lofty and the experience we had fizzled disappointingly short of that. The wife and I like to share dishes in higher-end restaurants, mainly because of the opportunity to sample more of what a kitchen can do. Plus, it's just more fun. As Joseph's website says, the chef likes to "showcase his love for local product and cuisine but also cuisine of the world." That "of the world" aspiration is great if you can pull it off. Joseph's menu features entrees like banana lamb curry, duck confit "pad thai style," rabbit bolognese lasagne, and steak au poivre. Those items sound mouth-watering individually but we found it difficult to pair them up with appetizers, sides, and salads, and so on. Maybe we were the ones who were lacking creativity, but our main server sure was resistant to advising us on pairing up dishes. Her patience with us was clearly wearing thin after we asked her just two or three questions about what menu items might work well together. She barely checked on us from there on out, and when she did, she wasn't exactly friendly. (Credit goes to the younger servers who were helping her out, though; they were helpful and sweet all evening.) We ended up with lamb tartare, the chicken and green chile tamal, the warmed charred ratatouille, and a grouper special that came with a vegetable-stuffed poblano. The lamb tartare was excellent, but not better than the $10-cheaper kibbeh nayyeh we get at the best Lebanese restaurant in our town, and that tamal was delicious, too, but didn't rank notably above some terrific New Mexican dishes at more modest places around town. The ratatouille was wonderful when we started into it, but flagged as you dug from the crispy outer veggies (some nice char) to the mushier center. And although the kitchen was nice enough to split our grouper entree and to plate both beautifully, and the grouper itself was cooked very nicely aside from the soggy skin (disappointing), the poblano--mainly just underseasoned corn and black beans inside--was pretty bland. Obviously, that amounts to some ups and downs. Desert was simple and one of the best things about our visit: Just a scoop each of ice cream, one basil and one some kind of caramel/duck fat. Superb. Another great thing about Joseph's is the ambience: It's got that lowlit, convivial feel down perfectly, and although housed in a traditional old New Mexican corner house, it conveys a bit of a country French style that feels very natural. With tax and tip (and a drink each), this experience came in at around $175. That's hardly the most expensive check in town, but it sure wasn't cheap, either. At that price point, call it 3.25 stars. read more

JCP is good. The service and ambiance is great. Make sure to get a reservation at least 2 days in advance as the restaurant is small and opens in the afternoon. The food is good and you'll most likely enjoy what you order as it is crafted with elegance and care. A foodie would enjoy this place and have something positive to say as the dishes are trending and have a pov. Started with the duck fat fries - these were good not outstanding but good - the cut of the fry could be larger and sauces could be better. Had the POSOLE - this was excellent and definitely a must try Finished with the Duck pad Thai - very good and filling. Lots of duck and the bowl seems to go on and on. Everything was delicious. We got the fish which was extraordinary. A friend got the burger which he claimed was the best he'd ever had. We shared the fries which were some of the best we'd all ever had. They fry them in duck fat. At first we were reluctant to try them, as our experience with fries made with duck fat was heavy tasting (Montréal). But, wow, the food was excellent and memorable. It is relatively quiet and super cozy. The issue we had was standing outside until the restaurant opened at 5:00. We got there around 4:50 (for a 5:00 reservation), and it was icy cold and windy. My mother, who is an elder, has trouble walking/standing and there was no where to sit on the patio. I almost cancelled our reservation on the spot - we've dined at many places in lots of cities and had never encountered this situation. The host was unapologetic and told us we'd have to wait outside. Hopefully this was an anomaly and they usually have a heater and seats on the patio. We happened here by chance. There's parking in the back. It's a small place with a lovely covered patio. We were here on a beautiful evening and the patio was fabulous. The service was perfect. BUT the main attraction is the food, oh my, amazing! We ordered the fries and potato chips to nibble on, they were good. This place is a gluten free eaters dream come true. The server said everything could be made gluten free and all desserts are gf. They brought gf bread, which was clearly made in house and delicious. When you're on the road, dining out can be a challenging adventure. Mediocrity abounds yet once in a while, you come across a restaurant where the surroundings, the food and drink, and the staff combine for a truly sophisticated and satisfying meal. Joseph's is that place. Joseph's Culinary Pub offers a superb fine dining experience in a casual Santa Fe setting. When you walk in you'll note an energy that just lets you know you're about to enjoy something special and different. We visited on a Saturday evening where a lively crowd filled the seats. We ended up eating at the bar where we enjoyed the friendly and capable service of Katie the bartender. We started our evening with some adult beverages and the tuna tartare appetizer. With avocado and mango, the tuna is artfully sliced and presented and of course, quite delicious. For our next course we chose the grilled peach and arugula salad, dressed with a tangy sweet champagne vinaigrette. The salad was large and we ended up splitting it. I was tempted to go for the steak au poivre but opted instead for one of the nightly specials, a tender and buttery grouper gently sauced and nestled on a bed of basmati rice. I was not disappointed. For dessert we enjoyed a pair of selections: the aptly named Cloud Cake that seemingly floated its meringue and caramel together, and a couple scoops of the uber rich duck fat caramel ice cream. One spoonful will leave you in tears of joy, it's just that good. Our visit to Joseph's was a memorable one and we'll be back on our next trip to Santa Fe. Highly recommended. read more
