Very interesting food, well prepared and layers of flavor. They are big on duck and lamb here but you can also find seafood and other dishes. It took a combined recommendation from both Yelp and an old friend to get us to visit JCP, but I'm SOOOO glad it finally happened - out dining experience was flawless :-) I'm told that Joseph started out with a restaurant in Taos, and then he moved to Santa Fe to open this location, which is right off the square. We shared a number of dishes family-style for dinner the night of our first visit, and all the food was nothing short of amazing! The service was totally on-point, and the wines paired with our meal were very nice :-) The stand-out dishes included the Lamb Bone Marrow, the Vegetable Enchilada and the Butterscotch Pudding for dessert. I was thrilled to be seated bc I didn't know reservations were required. Sometimes its good to be solo to dine . I loved the calming ambiance. The dish the Lamb Burger I was happy with the flavors. I usually am cautious about the cheese intake but I never had sheep cheese so Why not! First experience: I was called by Vida the day before our reservation to confirm our arrival. Gracefully done with warmth and courtesy. Seating was immediate and at a wonderful table near the entrance. The setting is simply gorgeous and eclectic. Lovely artifacts on the walls. Not cluttered, just intriguing items. Michele was a thoughtful, invested and supportive server. Her recommendations added to the whole experience of our evening. Fitz brought our plates. He presented them to us in such a way that we were immediately reminded about the chef's investment in each plate and how important it was to both him and Fitz that we be thrilled with our food. We were. The portions are thoughtfully generous and gorgeously plated. Loved my duck confit. So rich and yet so beautiful with its side accompaniments of a red cabbage and Brussels sprouts. Joseph's has been on my list for a while and I finally checked it off last night. We arrived to plenty of parking in their side lot and a short walk around the building to their quaint front door entrance. We walked into a wonderfully typical, small adobe house-like space that is usual for this area. It was a bustling space with the perfect ambiance for our dining experience. Food: Duck Fat Fries, Christmas Style Beef Tenderloin Stew, Sea Bass Special, Cloud Cake Drinks: Bottle of Malbec Cost: $138 The fries were just ok, but the garlic aioli and the house ketchup were fantastic. The soup was very good. Full of flavor and tender beef. The sea bass dish was also very good. All cooked perfectly. The wait staff was also very nice, which helped make the evening a success. The menu is heavy on duck and lamb, which I don't eat but I was still able to have a delightful meal. I will be back for sure. read more

Just to preface, the charm and ambiance of this little gem is amazing. You're invited in by smiling faces and warm welcomes. Immediately we were greeted, given water, and ordered a bottle of wine. We shared the crispy chicken tamale & the living lettuce salad. Both were so unique and delightful. For dinner, my partner and I both originally planned on getting the chicken pozole. However, it was all sold out for dinner. The waitress suggested the green chili tenderloin stew. It was phenomenal, reminded us both of home. The torts that accompanied the stew just added another level. I chose the root veggie napoleon - it was so delicious. The thin airy layers of phyllo were so buttery. The carrot purée on the bottom mixed with honey was so satisfying. It was such a beautiful dinner. All in all, it was such a fabulous outing for dinner. Joseph's Pub is one of those Santa Fe finds that you can't believe you didn't already know about. When you want to take a break from the New Mexican cuisine, this is a nice choice. It is on the pricier side, but its quaint, intimate atmosphere, and wonderful staff makes it worth it. You know you're getting a finer dining experience without a lot of pretension. We had the duck fat fries, an apparent must-try, and for entrees the beef stew and sea bass special. I was a bit underwhelmed by the fries -- if you're selling me on duck fat, I want to actually taste it. But both entrees were quite good. And, even though it doesn't seem like you're getting a lot of food, we were stuffed. Our server steered us in a nice direction on a bottle of wine, which was at a really good price, all things considering. For dessert, we had their cloud cake, also a must try. Honestly, if I had to do it again, I would skip it and get something else. Not that there was anything wrong with it. Sweet fluffy goodness, for sure. But it was just essentially meringue. I'll try something with a bit more depth next time. Also, I wish the menu wasn't so heavy on the beef, duck and lamb. It would have been nice to see a few more fresh, less heavy options. But maybe that's what the specials are for. All in all, though, it was an excellent meal and a lovely experience. read more

Joseph's is a such a surprising place! Most places with a diverse menu, fail on delivering and usually only have a couple things they do well. Not here. Everything is really well crafted and articulated. The quality of ingredients is top notch too (even the tuna was some of the best tuna I've had and I live on the coast). The enchilada really stood out though. It's vegetarian and you don't miss the meat at all. It's a layered dish, instead of rolled, and each layer brings something distinct to your bite. We ate there on a Saturday 5pm after going to meow wolf (an interesting experience). Glad we had a reso as the place filled up quickly--after the DDD episode and great yelp reviews, I think Joseph's has gained a lot of attention even-though it is not on the touristy downtown santa fe plaza. 5 of us seated immediately in the very quaint ?old house-(what a wonderful environment for an upscale Santa fe dinner). Joseph's is entitled a "pub", but it is not a beer swilling "pub"; It is a "culinary" pub, serving food from hamburgers to lamb curry to duck fat fries to fancy steak (and everything in between). Service felt like I was in NYC--really guys, you don't need to exchange my knife 4 times (I never even used a knife all night long-LOL). Nice explanations of the menu by our server who included specials and prices. Apps we tried included oysters--reported very good. My wife and I had Hawaiian ahi poke that was as good as on the islands. Pricy but a good sized serving to share and worth the $ to get it so fresh. Wife got asian soft shelled crab lettuce wrap--not her fav. However she loved the watermelon salad-especially on a hot day! Others shared an expensive but quite large steak and were smiling. Step mom and I both got the banana curry with lamb--absolutely awesome-I felt like I was in South Africa again where I had this dish last. Finally, the Flan was tasty and large enough to share. Overall a wonderful meal. I hope I'm back in Sante Fe sometime to try their duck Pad Thai or other new creations! read more

We always knew that Joseph's would be our first restaurant outing after we were out in public again. And it did not disappoint, it was a perfect meal. The three of us shared everything. We started out with the chicken liver mouse, and a watermelon, feta and crispy prosciutto salad with a balsamic reduction. Both were divine. Not sure how they get the mousse so light! This is not my grandmother's chopped chicken liver! Is was served with an array of condiments, perfect to share. We also had the duck fried potato chips, which are basically crack! Next up was their ratatouille, which has little relationship to a traditional one. This was filled with crispy kale and tomatoes chips. The colors, textures, and flavors were a perfect harmony. Next up was the fish special, which was a meaty white fish (don't remember the name) on a bed of fava beans with a coconut cream sauce and wonderfully crispy skin. Our other entree was mussels in a red chile sauce. We all finished every drop of the delicious broth. And although we were more than full we split the cloud cake. For me this is a perfect desert, not overly sweet, but still indulgent. We are so lucky to have food like this in our backyard! read more

We came here for dinner on a Wednesday night and it was fairly empty. Only us and one or two other tables during our entire meal. Unfortunately our table was right next to another party. They were a table of four but their voices were loud enough for a table of ten. This is not the restaurant's fault at all but the other table being loud and obnoxious was terribly distracting making our table conversation difficult, all making our dining experience much less enjoyable. The food was a disappointment. Based on what I had read, I was expecting really great, innovative food. I will say that the menu sounds very intriguing but somehow the execution just doesn't come together. We started our meal with the vegetable enchilada (more like a napoleon) which sounded like it had so much promise. It was good but the flavors needed to be deepened. It had lots of good stuff in it but it all melded together, so the great flavors were all lost. For my main, I had the lamb ribs. These were very disappointing. There was little to no meat on them, too much fat and they were dried out. Service was fine. read more

This review is a customer service review. We had a reservation and unfortunately one of my party tested positive for Covid the night before our reservation. I called and cancelled the reservation, explaining the situation and apologized. The woman I spoke with thanked me. I was disappointed we did not get a chance to enjoy the food and ambiance the restaurant is known for. I was charged $35 for the cancellation and although it is their prerogative to charge, I thought our circumstances would avoid the charge. We were after all protecting their staff and customers. Sadly, despite calling them and speaking several times to their manager, who assured me she would get back to me, I never received a call back. The fact that I never received a call back and the discretion to not reverse the charge in my option warrant a poor customer service rating. read more

We started with the large app of bone marrow and were disappointed. How do you make marrow without flavor? Tonight I learned that it's possible. The marrow comes with mushrooms in sauce and I'm pretty sure the shrooms were canned. I ordered the 1/2 duck which was voluminous but tough. Sad news for (former) fans of Joseoh's Culinary Pub. Things are not well in the kitchen. We ate there last night and a person at neighboring table commented to us as the waiier removed her main course "I've been eating here for ten years and this is the first time I've sent anything back". We wish we'd sent ours back, too. The duck confit Thai style arrived looking like a gelatinous tossed salad; the noodles had all been cut into small pieces ( nothing over an inch), as had the duck pieces. The sadly overcooked noodles had been overstirred with the duck to the point where the entire bowl took on a slightly grey color and texture of the food could only be described as mushy. The presentation did not remotely resemble that pasted by the restaurant on Open Table. Adding insult to injury, OpenTable/Joseph's charged us $2 to make the reservation, which was not deducted from our bill. There are so many other restaurants in Santa Fe that have consistently better food, we won't be returning here. We have no regrets abandoning this longtime favorite. read more

Oh my...I cannot express in words how delicious this place is! We came into town for an event on Sunday and spent the night at an air b/b around the corner from this awesome restaurant. The host recommended this spot and warned us to get reservations because they are only open from 5-9 for dinner. We grabbed one of the last reservations for 8:30pm. As we walked around the small quaint building we could smell the beautiful aromas coming from the establishment. As we walked in we were promptly greeted warmly by all of the staff. We were quickly seated and the staff got our drinks. Our server was so friendly and warm to us and made sure that we were happy throughout the meal. My husband ordered the lamb burger and I ordered the Rabbit Lasagna. The food was so delicious. We also ordered dessert and that did not disappoint at all. You must try the duck fat ice cream. We went to Joseph's during Santa Fe's Restaurant Week (such a fun time!). On the Restaurant Week's menu, though one could order from the regular menu, there were at least 8 options for Starters, 10 for Grands, another 6 for Sweets. (Our waitress told us that there was a little different menu each night for those who came more than once during the week.) YUMM! I chose the ceviche, just the right amount of lime, the half duck with a wonderful sweet and sour sauce, and the butterscotch pudding with caramel sauce. Well! It was perhaps the best dessert I've ever had, for sure among the top five; I'll be going back if for nothing more than that. One last word for our attentive waitstaff Sam who always had a smile, and for Michelle who knew every dish and described each with an intimate knowledge of flavor nuances and ingredients. Fun dinner at this creative pub. We are vegan - or mostly so - exceptions are hard cheese on pasta or fish. There are great options here for vegans - though most offerings are with meat. We began with the carrot hot dog - which was spicy and wonderful. An inventive and fun appetizer that can easily be shared with 2 people. We had the vegetarian enchiladas and a vegetarian Napoleon. We didn't trade out the phyllo on the Napoleon for strips of zucchini - which is recommended. We would love to return here! read more

This place was adorable! They serve duck fat chips to start and after we ordered they brought bread rolls, and herb butter. Even though we had a late reservation & we were late for our reservation our server was very sweet and pleasant the whole time not rushing us at all. They do not have a cocktail list just wine, and beer. I ordered the pozole for my entree & my husband got the lamb burger with a jalapeño popper on the side, it was like a mini Chile relleno with fluffy pancake like batter on the outside. My husband said the jalapeño was insanely hot & couldn't eat it so one our friend we were dining with had it & said it was good. I wish my pozole wasn't so spicy. I like mild to medium spice but this was a bit on the hotter end. The burger was delicious. This is totally our type of place, very eclectic, reminds us of restaurants in Austin, Tx. Extremely tasty, juicy, and SALTY... in the just-right way. With green chiles mmm. Salad on the side? No thanks, I'll take the duck fat fries instead. I had my weekly intake for fat and salt, but it was totally worth it. A good by-the-bottle wine list, but since I was by myself I ordered by the glass, and the selection didn't excite me as much. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had! I'm a bit embarrassed that I didn't know more about the restaurant beforehand, as we just strolled in after a nine hour motorcycle ride without a reservation. They had tables outside which was our preferred area. The meal was beyond amazing as was the service. We tend to frequently travel to Santa Fe and this will be a staple when we return! I had the trout, pear, and arugula salad with the most delicious candied pecans. My husband had the green chili lamb burger. He was blown away by its flavor and presentation. Who knew duck fat caramel ice cream would taste so close to heaven? The wait staff was super friendly and absolutely didn't make us feel lesser than, since we didn't have a reservation and probably looked a bit tired. We'll dress up next time! read more
