Golf course review; I played this course in March 2013 and March 2014. Honestly, that's not enough repetition to play this course. This course is challenging and requires local knowledge (or, at least with someone that knows the distances). With elevation changes, knowing distance with range finder wasn't enough. On #6 par 4, there was a 330' elevation drop with wind in your face while trying to land on a slanted fairway. #10 requires knowledge of distance as the OB comes into play and #11 is same with a dry river bed running along the right side. The course layout is challenging and fun. But, it can get frustrating at times as you seemingly hit a perfect shot only to find out that you've miscalculated. Take few sleeves of ball and give it a whack. And, enjoy the scenery as you can see the pretty much the entire valley. read more

I wanted to write a review since some people wrote some negative things about this course. I played on this golf course on Friday, August 14th. Our tee time was at 7am and I was telling the guy at the pro shop, cart guys and the starter that we should finish in 4 hours or just under. They weren't sure. We finished in 3 hours and 45 minutes. We had an underpar deal that allowed us to play a second round. We played the second round at 11:30am and we finished just over 4 hours. So unlike some of you, the time was not an issue. Missing some putts was my biggest issue! Ha! The afternoon round seemed like a different course as wind picked up so that made it a challenge. The golf course is absolutely beautiful and in great shape. I didn't enjoy driving for miles to get to the next tee box but I guess that's a part of the "Journey". The carts come with a GPS which is very helpful. The course has many elevations so my missed shots were based on how much the drop is and what I estimated. There's a par 3 with a big drop. I hit it just short and it went in the sand trap. When i got down to the sand trap, I could not find my ball. One of the maintenance guys happened to be right there and told me where my ball was. I could not see the ball so the guy walked in the sand trap to point it out. I STILL did not see it. So he started to move some sand with his hand and my ball was buried! It was worse than a fried egg! At least the guy helped me to find the ball which was very helpful. The cart guys and the starters were very friendly. They were ecstatic that my group finished in less than 4 hours and our second round was just over 4 hours. I think they were surprised but there should be no reason for a 5 or 6 hour round! Depending on your ability to drive the ball and your handicap, you should play the right tee box for you. I hate the people who play blues/blacks because they think they are good and lose a dozen balls. That's the reason for a 5/6 hour round. You will not be able to slice your drive and find your ball in the next fairway. So if you are one of these guys, play the right tee box to save everyone some time! I don't live near Temecula but it's worth the drive to play a very nice course! read more

Awesome set up. Although I never got the chance to actually play on the course, the golf carts, view, and other equipments were all amazing. Helped out an event here and was luckily able to try their breakfast buffet. WOW, it was delicious! Also has the dinner buffet which had the best desserts! This review is for the restaurant only. A friend had a birthday party here. They rented out the entire bar and restaurant area for the party. The staff was nice and friendly. The outdoor deck was really nice. The fire-pit was a nice addition on a cold night. This course is top notch in all aspects. Workers are attentive and helpful and the facilities are gorgeous. I've been to a few nice courses in my life and I have to say that Journey's practice facility is one of the best. The chipping and bunker practice area is great to get your short game touch before a round instead of during the round. It probably saved me a few strokes. Journey is definitely one of the most beautiful courses in Southern California. As for the course, it's a tale to two different 9's. The front nine seemed much tamer to me than the back. Greens were easier to read and the fairways wider without all the carries required in the back 9. There are a lot of elevation changes in the back 9 and the wind started to kick up which wreaked havoc on the approach shots. The 18th green is a bit to cute for my liking as the green is a roller coaster with the front and the back elevated and a huge indentation in the middle so accuracy and club selection are really important. Be prepared to lose some balls if you're not a straight hitter. There are hazards throughout the course and an errant shot will leave you adding strokes. Also the rough is penalizing due to its thickness. Clubs get caught in that stuff and distance is adversely affected. Pace was slow as it was just a shade under 6 hours for us. I think most of it was due to the difficulty of the course and players taking in the beautiful views. This is a destination course and one to really look forward to playing and getting excited over but you need to bring your A game. read more

I played this course about 6 months ago and it was in amazing condition. I played here last week and I couldn't believe how bad it was. Large portions of many fairways were in horrible condition with huge sections of mud and dirt. The tee boxes were in average condition at best and the greens were pretty nice. As usual, customer service was amazing with the exception of the girl at the snack bar who was more interested in putting her makeup on than manning the window. I asked around and staff said they will be closing the course for a few weeks sometime soon so I would definitely wait until the course is repaired before spending the big bux to play here. Definitely way better values for nice courses in the area right now. read more

Talking about golf here. Four of us went there on an UnderPar deal. I want to go back. Such an interesting place. We have been warned so we were somewhat prepared mentally for a challenging round. Except may be the first two holes, every other hole required course management. Some holes, I must say, were a bit too extreme. Handful of sharp drops (145 yards +). Long carries. Challenging greens. All in all, the ground was well maintained. Excellent playing conditions. As to the heat, it was hot but we anticipated that. The place is stocked with a plenty of ice and water at the turn. We survived and kind of smiled at the end. This place is not for novice players and though it is part of Pechanga Resort, do not expect a wide open resort hole layout. read more

Played here for the 2nd time on Friday 12/6. This review is just going to be like many others but I though I'd add my $.02. The course is awesome, no way around that for sure, but for the 2nd time it was "cart path only" no biggie except a twosome that teed off right in front of us who play there often remarked that its always cart path only. This makes for a lot of pretty long walks and slows down the round considerably. But again, great course. The real problem is the staff. And not the cart guys, the Pro Shop guy. I think his name was Kevin (the older one). When we arrived their computers were down so he said we could pay at the end of the round but that he'd need to hold one of our ID's which is no problem except the reason he gave was, in his words, "In case we try skip out without paying." Seriously? I would laugh if it had been as a joke but he was serious. This dude automatically senses that two people, knowingly ready to pay $149 each would skip out. Strike One. We get down to our cart and are informed that the driving range is closed. That would've been a nice tidbit from the guy in the pro shop. No sorry about that, no nothing. Strike Two We make the turn and the guy in the "Starters Area" stops us to tell us that their computers are back up and we "had" to go up and pay before we could play the back. We explained that the pro shop guy said we could pay after the round, but he didn't care so we go up to pay and get nothing but attitude again. The younger guy helped my partner in about 20 seconds, the old dude took about four minutes to swipe my card, and barely spoke. Foul tip, still two strikes. We play most of the back and get to hole 16. The tees are roped off with a lot of construction going on very nearby. All of the tees end up being in the fairway. Again, $149 for this? Maybe a little heads-up about the construction and one of the holes being "messed-up"? Maybe? No? Strike Three. The bottom line for me is that there are WAY too many choices for golf in SoCal, and almost all of them treat people better than these guys. And again, not all, but two staff members in particular. I've been fortunate enough to play several courses way nicer and some way more expensive and been treated awesome like they were happy to have us golf there. These guys act like they're doing us a favor by letting us play their course. At the end of the day, they'll be fine because they have enough money going into the casino that they don't have to care about customer service, but for me and others I've spoken too, they'll have to do it without me. And if anyone asks me about The Journey, I'll warn them off and suggest the desert or Rams Hill. read more

ok.....WOW...... Had heard plenty of rave reviews from fellow golfers and online reviews, but in no way could they do justice to this place. Played on a Sunday with an 8 am tee time. Very windy with some rain sprinkles throughout the day. Practice area is top notch. Beautiful grass hitting stalls to target greens that are prettier than 99% of other courses. Two separate chipping greens with 2 cuts of rough and sand bunkers. I really appreciate when courses offer nice chipping areas as a good day around the greens can save your score. And the putting green is like walking on carpet. Course is tough but fair. Playing with the wind it made some holes more fun (wind at back) and others downright brutal. But if you can hit your drives 240+ and keep your long approaches online, there are plenty of opportunities to score. Holes 6, 17 and 14 stand out as truly signature holes. #6 calls for a tee shot roughly 200 feet above your landing fairway below. While a very daunting task, a straight drive with at least 200 yds of carry can set you up well. Can't wait to play again and I would HIGHLY recommend this course to anyone who loves golf and can appreciate a spectacular setting. read more

This golf course is more of a gimmick than a world class facility. It is long with spectacular vistas. However, with trees placed in middle of many of the fairways to raise difficulty levels, incessant wind, golf carts that speed up, slow down and shut off at whim, a staff that acts as though guests are a nuisance, and a full crew of tribal police that search every crevasse for outside containers and confiscate personal property, even on the course, in the middle of a round, golfing here feels more like a socialist experiment in how to ruin an already difficult game by inserting as many negative external influences as possible. Tough course very similar to desert courses, once your off the fairway kiss your ball good buy. Nice clubhouse! GPS looked like a laptop computer with football scores running across the top. I don't gamble so I can't speak for the Casino but I have heard from many patrons that the casino is fantastic. The new Pool and Spa area rivals any casino in Vegas. It is a challenge GC (over 7000 yards for 18 holes in hills and mountains) if you are not a good golfer. But, it is fun to play in this GC. The staff take care of everything. There are a nice restaurant and a golf shop in the facility. It is worth trying if you have not done so in the past. read more

Got the Stay and Play package for my husband's birthday. We had two fantastic rounds of golf. Such a beautiful course with amazing views and interesting layout. Nice room in the Resort Tower with a very comfortable bed and plenty of room in our Junior Suite. Our package included a lesson with Scott Mallory, head pro. We were really impressed with how much time Scott spent with us and the quality of instruction. We learned so much about improving our swing, both off the tee and our short game. This is a review of the golf course and related facilities and not the food or wedding or whatever. I've played this course twice. The first time I thought it was a little "gimmicky" but I liked it. The second time I appreciated it more. The only thing that changed was me. The first time I barely broke 90 and the last time, I shot 77, so there you have it! Clubhouse: Huge and gorgeous. Great locker room, free lockers part of the price. It's a marvel of glass and steel overlooking the huge course and mountains. Pro Shop: Big selection of clothes, very nice. Staff: The usual old white guys. Starter a little controlly, but that's what they do. Pro shop dude nice. Cart guy cool. We got a touch behind which can happen because there is so much trouble, and the marshal was very cool about it (and those of you who play know that is not always the case). The Cart lady was "traditional", something I haven't seen in a while. Wink-wink. Practice Area: Range: My heart flutters. Beautiful grass range with nice targets. The targets are downhill. None of that b.s. of paying separately for balls. There are nice pyramids of clean new range balls.Chipping Area: Oh, my heart sings. A big area with two greens and two traps and everything you could want. Putting green: large and true to the greens, much slope. COURSE: This is a fun course. It a huge tract of land that is fronted by a mountain. It has streams running through it. There is native scrub, huge magnificent oak trees. There are holes wedge into the mountain. There is a hole with a 100 yard drop to the fairway. There bridges, wooden, like something out of a fantasy. The greens are undulating, some crazily. One hole has about an eight foot rise from the two tiers. It's surrounded by a stream and the tee shot requires a shot over a small lake. Each hole is a different experience. Some are very difficult, requiring precise tee shots and approach shots, some are very easy. However, every hole has serious trouble lurking for really bad shots. If you typically shoot 95-100 I highly suggest playing from the whites (only 6300 yards) unless you brought 20 balls and don't mind buying some more after the 9th hole. It's one of those courses where the slope is very high relative to the rating. So, I suggest really looking at the cart's screen and use the awesome feature where it allows you to touch the screen and pick a landing point and will show you the exact distance to any spot. Great feature! Play conservatively. This is not the course to just bust out the driver and wish for the best! You really need to think about your tee shot. GREENS--both times they stimped at 10. It's perfect for the undulation. Very true. A little worn, but it's the middle of summer, but very good overall. Perfect for a fun round. Notes/Complaints: Carts have a feature where if you go somewhere it doesn't like it locks up and you have to back out slowly and some of the spots are weird. Pay attention to the signs. This is not a walking course. Basically, it'd be impossible. WATER--they put a couple tiny waters in a cooler on your cart and they three bathrooms have fountains outside, but it's not enough. It gets HOT out there. They need to have waters at the tee boxes, at least between the bathrooms and the turn. WIND: Wind is huge factor. I hit my PW 130 and I had 135 to the pin with room behind. I played for the wind and still flew the green. It went 150. And then in the opposite. I had 115 into the wind and I hit my PW and hit fairly low and still was 20 yards short. It was so windy toward the end of the round that I had to widen my putting stance. This is typical for Temecula, so be ready. Also, if you have a scope that gives elevation yardage, it will come in great handy here. Otherwise, you'll be doing some guesstimation because you'll have some elevation changes you've never encountered before. It's a great experience. Worth the money. If you live in SoCal, it's a must. This golf course is unbeleivable. Great great golf course with great service. The guy met me at my car with my golf cart and checked me in there. Then, there were unlimited range balls to warm up with. The golf carts have gps that also give you a tour of the hole and a history of each hole. This course is huge! I could barely tee off from the whites. Many mountainside tee offs over trees and water hazards. Really fun course. Really nice course. I can see why its so expensive to pay here. Nice course but it was a painfully slow round. We waited on almost every shot and just imagine, we played on a THURSDAY. We teed off around 8:00 am and had a group of 20 of us golfers following another group of about 12 golfers. At the turn (10th hole tee) the nice starter in the morning turned into the Golf Marshall 'devil'. He told us to speed it up, and told us that we were 58 minutes behind. We told him we are keeping up with the other groups but to no avail. Later on in the round the same Marshall followed us from the 12 - 15 holes reminding that we were behind. That was really unnecessary after all, we did PAY for the round ($90.00). The WORSE part was that on the 15th tee, he told us to skip the 16th hole and move on to the 17th hole. What an ass! My advice: 'Don't Play here... the Staff sucks, and maybe the Pechanga Indians don't care except for taking your Money $$$!!' read more

From the beginning... Had an 810am tee time and showed up 35 minutes early as I always do so I can warm up. Paid for the round and checked in with the starter (Bob) who asked if we played here and we said no. He gave us the usual course info and said to go hit some balls at the range. Not even 5 minutes went by and he came and said we were up on the tee (20 minutes ahead of schedule). We were kinda ready but wanted to hit a few putts which Bob suggested we do before playing since we hadn't played there before. We left the range and hit the practice green. Bob let us hit 3 putts.......... we weren't pleased. So we picked up and proceeded to the tee. I told Bob were playing from the tips and he asked for my handicap which currently stands at a 7. Bob objected and said we can't play from there. We talked about it (I wasn't happy) and I told Bob I play every week and won't hold anyone up. Bob LITERALLY TOLD ME I WAS GONNA HAVE A HORRIBLE ROUND. I ended up shooting 9 over which is right on point with my handicap. I held the group behind us up for 4 holes and then never saw them again but caught the group in front of us on the 11th and stayed on there heels the rest of the way. Course was in great shape. And it took us a little over 4 hours which is great for 7200 yards. Bob the starter sucks.... I play the Crossings in Carlsbad once a month and play Aviara, also in Carlsbad a couple times a year. Bob officially ruined my view of this course and I was so excited to come play. I hope Bob gets it together and let's people play golf instead of rushing them and telling them they are gonna have a horrible day. I'm happy with my 9 over even though I was pissed at Bob for 5 holes. I still might go back but hope Bob won't be working when I come. read more

We went out at 12:20 on a Saturday. First nine took 3:15. Add a potential wait on #10 of 20 to 30 minutes ... well, we quit after 9 holes. We had phoned the pro shop after 3 holes and were told a ranger would be going out in 5 minutes. Never saw him. The group ahead of us phoned in after #7 and was told the same thing. Still no ranger. After 9 I complained and was told the GM was rangering. Hard to believe. Also, I was to have a preferred rate as a hotel guest but in fact I paid $6 more than anyone else playing after noon. When I asked about that, I was told the tee time was of my choosing. While true, I just don't think the pro shop guy understood the unfairness of the pricing. The front nine was interesting and challenging, but the slow pace and lack of concern/action on the part of management overshadowed that. I will not return. read more

Went out here with a bunch of buddies and we were so impressed. Took advantage of the "Journey to Lunch" deal where we got golf, room (we were upgraded to a suite which was awesome), and lunch for $140/person. This course's rack rate is like $150! The course was perfectly maintained...hard but fair...and the pace was awesome (did not have to wait like I do in L.A.). Overall, an amazing experience. This is a must play in Temecula! read more

One of the worst experience of golfing I've ever had and I've been playing for awhile. Our tee time was 8:30AM, got there and the range was closed. I understand things happen. Then we get approached by a worker asking if we wanted to tee earlier, so we did. At the starter area my friend grabs a handle full of COMPLIMENTARY tees. Then the starter BOB, makes a smart remark saying you can buy some tees at Dicks Sporting Good. It rained the night before so it was cart path only. So we obeyed the course rules, slow play was going to happen. Then we make the turn and BOB comes up to us and tells us we are playing very slow. I'm guessing he's going by the GPS then suggests we skip hole #10 go to #11. Also play from the forward tees. Why would we pay a lot of money to play and skip a hole? I understand he's trying to do his job but there was barely anyone out there. After a year and a half not playing at journey, I finally got to play this last week. I remembered the course being absolutely pristine, challenging and beautifully manacured tbe last time I played. This time was different, infact it was almost a joke to pay the steep price for the run down condition it was in. While Pechanga has expanded and grown, journey has really taken a dump. The greens were spotted with brown patches, bumpy, and over all unsightly. The bunkers looked like crap, and sand felt like concrete. What's up with journeys quality standards? read more

Went to Journeys with my family at 10 am and expected a wait. Put in our name with the hosts who did not greet us upon entry. They were professional but not at all friendly. We sat at the bar while waiting for our table. The bartender had one table and two guests at the bar. She was overwhelmed so we waited patiently. After ten minutes, we moved and sat directly at the bar in hopes of faster service. She served the last party seated first. We ordered a simple drink, Orange whit w OJ. Our drinks did not have OJ. Waited patiently again and asked for a shot of OJ. She was bothered, pulled a glass and never returned with the OJ. Service at the bar was disappointing. We were extremely disappointed that Chris was not there. He always provides exemplary service! We almost left but decided to stay for breakfast. Thankfully Ben & Joseph turned it around. We had an amazing breakfast: bananas foster, side of sausage, beet salad, chicken fried steak, and the fruit plate. Food was delicious. Golf course is very difficult. It was not designed for the high handicap golfer. Also the golf carts keep stopping in areas they should not. Went under a tree and the cart stopped. Delaying the game. Stopped at least 10 times. Very stupid. Employees seem to have the attitude that they are doing us a favor to play there. Will not go back and told them that. Twosome said the same thing. Played twice over Valentines. First class course from bag drop to help loading clubs when finished. Course was lush green (in February) and in excellent condition. Greens were fastest I've played. Holes varied from fun creek level stretches to crazy mountainside forced carries. Overall a high quality, challenging course with first class treatment and facilities. As you drive up to the Clubhouse you know your in for an exceptional experience. The restaurant is welcoming as you gaze outside and engulf the beauty that awaits. With warm welcomes from the staff, we drove off in our fully loaded golf cart. Entering the practice range the breathtaking views of the mountains and skies were magnificent. I can hardly wait till we tee off at this point. My fingers can't type fast enough to describe each and every fairway and how manicured the greens were. Each of the 18 holes has it's own character and adventure. I have to say the climb to the 6th hole has a 175 foot drop...the view is stunning!! There are several bridges that are captivating to the eye as well as the historical landmarks that are throughout the course. Wow...what an experience!!! Love the course here. Not sure how the weekends are, but played a round here on a weekday and had a wonderful time with the hubby. It's in great shape, perfectly manicured, the GPS on the carts were 2nd to none. Very challenging course with the winds, elevation changes, and slopes. The only downfall imo were the number of mowers running on a good amount of the fairways and fringe that day. Minor compared to the positives of the day, just a a bit noisy at times. read more

I went here for a company party, and was a bit late and they already put the food away, they were so extremely sweet and caring they brought me and my boyfriend out a plate with everything on it, brought us champagne and water and dessert. They made us feel important instead of just saying, oh well you were late. They servers went above and beyond. This course is always in fabulous shape, so I dont mind the 1 hour drive from San Diego. I played it this past weekend and its my 3rd time this year already. I just wish I could have gone into the bar, they always have weddings in the bar area so it is usually closed on weekends. We finished in 4.5hours a record...last time I was there we tee'd off at noon and never finished it got dark and I still had 3 holes to play. read more

3rd time I've been here and usually I would give it 4 stars. This time I came to a corporate event and had a concern. Journey is the restaurant venue connected to the Golf Course and the Casino. Most everything is very fresh and nicely presented. I helped myself to the hot plates (Pulled Pork, Salmon, Chicken) and just after the salad bar they had poke, which is fresh tuna that's season but eaten raw. They looked elegant in these tiny wine cups, but they were made of plastic, not glass. I'm guessing it was an oversight, but poke should be chilled at the very least. On a warm day and in plastic cup (not on ice) was something they should rethink. Like I said, I would usually give them 4 stars but thought I should let you know. read more
