I wanted to love it. I've been looking for a good Chinese restaurant close to home. Alas, there was too much sugar on everything. We ordered the spicy crispy honey and sesame chicken, walnut shrimp, and combo chow mein. The chicken and shrimp dishes were very sweet. The chow mein was just OK, but nothing spectacular. I enjoyed the scallion pancakes, but it's hard to make a meal out of it. I'm not sure we'll be coming back. read more

The positive is that the customer service was lovely and very attentive. The place is cute and aesthetic, but the food... The truth is that I was led astray by the review section. This is the equivalent of saying authentic Mexican food comes from Del Taco or Taco Bell. Everyone's taste buds are different but I will say, now I rather drive down south for better food and perhaps from a small family-owned business. I could have gone to Trader Joe's and shopped from the frozen aisle and ate the same dishes at home for under $15 instead of here. I was feeling adventurous and wanted to try a new restaurant. I figured I haven't had Chinese food in a while so why not. My fiancé and I ordered the orange chicken and honey walnut shrimp. The portions are huge btw so we had enough for lunch the next day. Flavor wise, I thought it was pretty good. The shrimp was delicious. Personally I think the orange chicken at Panda Express tastes better but you can taste the quality here. Overall, I would definitely want to come here again and try other menu items! read more

We're so pleased that this little gem opened up so close to us! We've been a few times and ordered several different dishes, and everything is delicious! Even by Los Angeles standards this is a solid dumpling house, which means it's amazing by San Diego standards. Xiaolongbao and BBQ pork buns are both very good, but the breakout star has been the fish. We've had multiple fish dishes here and they've all been so flavorful and the fish is perfectly flaky and tender. Dan Dan noodles were also super yummy. Service is also very fast and efficient. Definitely a great spot for delicious dumplings and other Chinese dishes. read more

We live near Joyee's newest location, in Highlands Village, and decided to give it a try a few nights ago. Very impressed. The restaurant is small, and it looks like they do a lot of takeout and delivery business. The menu isn't large compared to many Chinese restaurants, but they are clearly focused on doing what they do very well. We had four dishes: - Fish fillet with black bean sauce was garlicky, without the garlic dominating other flavors from the fish, tofu and the nicely seasoned black bean sauce. - Pork Xiao Long Bao: a "soup dumpling" with delicious pork AND broth inside the dumpling. How I've gone this long without encountering soup dumplings is a mystery - theirs is wonderful. - Char Shew Bun, with a goodly amount of barbecue pork inside the bun. - For dessert, a Creamy Custard Bun, just sweet enough and a satisfying end to the meal. It was, of course, a lot of food for two people, and I'm pleased to report the leftovers held up very well. This is a restaurant that focuses on quality, not on a million-item menu, and that showed in every dish. read more

Just a little family counter service place. My husband and I have stopped there 3 times now and it's been delicious every time. When you can't get all the way into the city for authentic dishes (Convoy St area), this absolutely scratches the itch. We get the Pork and Onion Fried Buns every time and always dip it in the provided sauces: trying it with the vinegar is a MUST for even more deliciousness. Scallion Pancakes are on par and the soup dumplings have good flavor. This is definitely our go-to local place now. read more

They secretly added 15% tips for dine in without telling and disregarded the tip we added manually on receipt. We didn't realize it until credit card statement. It's understandable to tip well while everything is more costly these days. But charging without advising is definitely not a good business practice. read more

I haven't eaten in the restaurant, but I've done pick up here. Dumplings are really good. Some of the meat dishes seem almost identical, so if you order 1 of them, don't be surprised if you order a 2nd dish and the 2 dishes appear and taste identical with the exception of 1 ingredient. They do their best at dumplings, although the wonton soup is pretty darn good as well. read more

Most of the times I get the Xiao long bao and the scallion pancakes. Good size portion and very tasty for 1 with a bit of leftover. Never been there as i usually DoorDash it so can't say anything about the place. Also, don't forget the chili sauce when you order it's really a good compliment to the flavor. read more

THIS IS AN UPDATE TO AN EARLIER REVIEW I really like the thought of this business. The menu is filed with a lot of my favorite Asian "quick foods" that it scratches that itch for me at a price point I find reasonable. The place looks clean and efficient in a way that I would prefer to take home my food rather than linger and talk a while. I had the soup dumplings, the pork belly , the eggplant in schezuan sauce, the sweet and sour pork and the fish in black bean sauce. The soup dumplings were okay. A little smaller than most, which made for very little soup to truly call it a soup dumpling. The pork belly was done well. The eggplant was perfectly balanced with salty, spicy and pungent. The fish was also tasty, however the were a total of 6 black beans in the black bean mix... there could have been a lot more. No one in our family enjoyed the sweet and sour pork. This says a lot, as sweet and sour pork is our family favorite. We found the texture to be off, a little too hard. And the sauce coated the pork, but did not make the dish moist and unctuous, as it should be. I think the price point is good and the portion sizes are generous. Overall, I would recommend the restaurant but stay clear of the sweet and sour pork. There is still a lot on the menu to try, so I am hopeful. read more

This is only for the Torrey Highlands one. OMG beef noodle soup. Of course we can make better at home. This one is pretty darn good and no dishes to clean up. Service was quick and very friendly. Restaurant is super clean and air conditioned. I suspect the lines will be getting longer once word gets out. Dumplings good and fresh. Fish filet needs msg. Seriously we needed this place. Pricing...it can get expensive with a big family but beats anything buffet or place in convoy/mira mesa..quality and price wise. Quantity too. Did I mention beef noodle soup. There's a reason why this place is always busy, especially at dinnertime. Everything we've had here has been so good! The food isn't too oily and has a good amount of spice to the dishes we order. The Dan Dan noodles are the best! Xiao long bao, Mongolian beef, pork dumplings, all of it. We are never disappointed when we eat here. I often order from this restaurant through Uber Eats when I am out with the kids at their extracurricular activities so that we can have dinner ready when we get home. Rice came with the entrees. But they just stopped including rice. You have to order it separately. I did not know this since they don't say that on their menu and because they always included rice with the entree before. Now I am home and trying to make rice for the kids which is delaying our evening routine. Kind of annoying and hope this helps other parents who order takeout. (Also think that rice should be included with entrees like other Asian restaurants do!) read more

Went on a Sat late afternoon for quick dinner. So if you order beef chow fun, only in this place would I end up with a beef fried rice, and get laughed at when you raised the point that's not chow fun. Fine, I don't know the language. Letsee if the fried rice redeems. The beef fried rice ended up being really bland soy sauce over rice, mixed with heavily tenderized tasteless beef slices. I can't taste baking soda so who knows what they did that the beef had the texture of tofu except you can't chew through, and did I mention it was tasteless. I would write off all their other beef dishes based on this dish. Gimme a reason to come back cos I couldn't find any. read more

We actually never were able to get our food. We ordered through GrubHub and were told that the food would be ready in 20 to 40 minutes. Headed over to the restaurant, which was a zoo. We didn't get our food and nobody would answer our request for an estimated time. Called GrubHub after an hour and 10 minutes waiting. They tried to call the restaurant as we were standing right there hearing the phone ringing, and the restaurant would not pick up. They canceled our Order and refunded our money. Another poor gentleman had been waiting an hour and a half for their food when we were leaving. On our way out some diners told us we didn't miss much because the food wasn't that good! Ordered dandan noodles, pork fried buns, BBQ pork buns, pork and chive dumplings, and char siew buns and threw the entire order out. It was only the char siew bun that was marginally acceptable. The remaining buns were seriously lacking in flavor right along with the pork and chive dumplings. The sauce that came with the dandan noodle was absolutely overpowering and harsh, it was literally noodle with this "sauce". I have no idea how this place has an average of 4 stars.
