This place is close to my office and in my husband's old neighborhood. He took me here once, when we first started dating and I took one look around and told him, "this is the kind of bar that you bring a girl to, that you don't want anyone you to know to see you with, what gives???" He said that wasn't the case (which is now proven true since we're married) and he didn't think it was that bad. Don't get me wrong, my husband and I have an affinity for dive bars. And I usually prefer a good dive over a stuffy place but this place is just scary. There was a 1 legged drunken woman at the bar and she kept flirting with my husband when I would get up to go the ladies room. I am not kidding. That was about 4 years ago or so. More recently, when I started working in the area some of us wanted to head out for a happy hour on a Friday because we got off a little early (it was around 4 or 4:30). We pulled up to JP's and it was drizzling a bit. There were about 10 people all blocking the door because they were smoking (ok, not a big deal, it IS a bar and they WERE outside), but I was surprised there were so many people there. It was packed. It was 4:30 and almost everyone inside was totally FACED. I'm used to seeing places get like this at 2am but it was 4:30. We went in, saw that they no longer had the dart boards (what kind of dive doesn't have a dart board?), or they had moved them somewhere else and I didn't see them. Anyway, the crowd gave off a weird vibe and we left. I'm the one that actually suggested this place, because it was close. Talk about looking bad. Sorry JP's, even for a dive, this one is beyond my taste. read more

I was in San Diego for the weekend and staying few blocks from here. They had a live band and the atmosphere was good. Beer prices are average and the crowd whom all seem to live few blocks from this place were friendly. Definitely would return. read more

I have to rate this place based on various hit and miss experiences. When the band is good< everyone is fine most the time. However alot of the time the band sucks. The drinks are pretty chaep and the bartenders are awesome. The bouncers are fantastic though, this methed out 50 year old biker chick kept talking shit to me about my broncos, I was like ok whatever cause im not a confrontational person, 20 minutes later this tweaker tried to jump my girlfriend(Who could obviously kicked the shit out of the tweaker) I held my girlfriend back(who is a charger fan) while the bouncers grabbed the tweaker and told her to get out, outside the methed out whore started hurdling racist slurs to the black bouncer, who just shrugged it off his shoulders. Overall this is a chill bar in the daytime and at night it just depends. read more

This place is very much for the locals and if you aren't a regular there you are going to feel very uncomfortable. The vibe is very rough there and so are the people I usually have good service though. The only annoying thing is when they let people sing totally disrupts your mood and its beyond upsetting. And the music there sucks too. Smh but if you're into the rough biker scene and are white then definitely give this place a try. If you aren't white then probably try some place else lol read more

This is a solid neighborhood bar without bullshit. Everyone talking about "dive" and "hole in the wall" has never been to a real dive or hole-in-the-wall...because JP's is not that. It's just a low-key, friendly place where a bunch of locals hang out. "Dives" and "hole-in-the-wall" bars have vomit and blood and handicapped hookers with oxygen tanks. JP's has none of this. It's just a place you go when you want to hang out, have a beer, maybe watch a game on TV, and chill out. Sometimes that's just what the good Dr. ordered. read more

Ok haters. This place is chill, you need to lighten up. I'm new to the area and went there on a Saturday night. Karaoke was so fun, I got up there a couple times myself. Of course there are drunk people, it's a bar. Parking is easy and free, nice people, pool tables, and a juke box. As far as locals go, I met people from all over the place. The staff is very friendly and easy to talk to. I would recommend this to the alternative of going to the beach, or downtown. Why travel when you have a quaint bar in your area?! A great local dive bar, I do frequent this establishment on more than one occasion and probably will continue too. Its your typical sports/dive bar, its recent upgrade with 3 big screen tv's has made sundays more of an experience. The selection of beers is good, the bar is almost always fully stocked and there food and drink specials throughout the week make it a pleasant experience at every visit. Free pool on sundays evenings and $2 Tuesdays just happen to increase experience. The Bar staff are great and professional, and although there is a few disagreements now and then, security always has it under control. Got to love the babes behind the bar, which make the drinking experience all the more enjoyable!! I recommend it to anyone who happens to get lost and end up in Tierrasanta!! read more

I actually like this place. It's a little small, but the people are great and every time I have been here there are cool people to talk to. On certain nights they have karaoke, and on Friday's they supposedly have a live band (no cover charge). The drinks are reasonably priced, and they don't cheat the alcohol, especially if you tip well. Their appetizers are pretty good, too--yum! Cool place to go to relax. read more

Happy hour is the most expensive in town @$3.50 for a well drink. The first night I came in the drinks was perfect. I came in a couple days later on a Wednesday and ordered the same drink, cranberry vodka and it taste like watered down cranberry juice. I wanted another one before I left to try and get some vodka in my system and I waited 5 minutes maybe more with my empty glass on the bar and just left cause I had to get to dinner. Boo read more

I recently moved to Tierrasanta and I drive by JP's everyday. I was a little discouraged to go in because there are always lot of bikers out in front and seemed like a much older crowd. It was a random tuesday night and a friend and I decided to go in and check it out. Surprisingly, it was larger than I expected with pool tables and a karaoke section. Since it was during the holidays the place was decked out with a Christmas tree, lights and decorations which made it feel very warm and seasonal. We sat down away from the bar (which was full) and ordered two mixed drinks during happy hour. Pretty great prices at 2.50 a drink! Overall it was a chill place and close to home so will probably come back to check out Karaoke sometime. read more

The food is what you should expect from a bar, but honestly, you should go for the chill crowd, the atmosphere, and "best worst" karaoke you can find in San Diego.
