JP's is the local hang out in Tierrasanta. All the great bartenders that you read about in previous reviews are all gone. Now new people and Darren, which you can read about in previous reviews. Pool night it's busy, and they have karaoke M/W/Sat. Karin runs W/Sat and is great. Bo runs M night now, and it's really hit and miss on if you can sing in the rotation (or the KJ remembering your name). The food is awesome and great props to the kitchen, especially the Beef Quesadilla! Well worth it! Overall a great place for a Bloody Mary in the morning, or to hang out W or Sat night. Friday night and this place was hoppin' with some great people watching. Old people dancing the night away to the cover band (they played lots of great classic rock) and young people getting tipsy. Remarkably with a packed house we found a seat at the bar right away and were not bothered by obnoxious people that one expect at a packed bar, matter of fact, people were courteous. I love pubs but this place could be so much better! They always have the exact same beers on tap and a guy like me appreciates a little deviation from the norm. It would be nice to see some more variety in that department. As far as karaoke goes, it is far too loud! A great neighborhood pub! Clean,spacious and well appointed with TV's that can be viewed from all the seating areas. The kitchen is very good (try the "wedge" salad). Drink specials every day and regular prices are very reasonable. By far the best thing about JP's though is the friendly staff. Caitlin in particular is an excellent, attentive and friendly bartender. She's got a great sense of humor and welcomes everyone to the pub. read more

I was one of the first customer's at JP's. I met a lot of great people there over the years. If you become a regular there you'll find a lot nice people there that will watch your back if things get out of hand, and you will find a lot of new great friends. In all the years I went there, I never had any bad trouble with anyone. If any of my old friends from JP's read this, I'd like to tell you guys & gals I really miss my time seeing you all. Let me start by saying this place has the best wings I have ever had at prices that make McDonald's look expensive. 50¢ a wing and 3$ a beer on Thursdays nights.... JP's has become a weekly event for my friends and I. We were immediately treated like regulars and Robin remembers all our names and what we order. The only reason I'm giving this place any stars at all is because the food was pretty good at a low price. But my overall experience was extremely unpleasant because of the mistreatment from our server, ROBIN. My friends and I came as a large group, but we divided up into two tables. I sat with my girl friends while my boyfriend sat with the guys. It was very crowded at the time so I was forgiving that we didn't get fast service. And I get that it can be stressful to work in this environment, trying to get to everyone in a timely manner while also putting a smile on your face. But the weird thing was, our server was so nice to every table but ours. Even our boyfriends received better service, which didn't make any sense. My sister simply asked her for a refill of water and in response, Robin just yelled at my sister and demanded her to leave it on the table. She never came back with water for us. I was afraid to even ask her again. I was also afraid to ask her for a fork so we went to the bar instead and the bartender helped us, despite that she was busy with her own job. I didn't even finish my wings because I was so thirsty and barely had any water. The entire time we were there, Robin only checked on us once but it was when we were almost done eating already. Not once did she have a smile on her face when she came to us. It was like her demeanor completely switched 180. Every time she passed by us, she showed passive-aggressive behavior and instead of saying "excuse me" or "pardon me," she would yell out "coming through!" or "get out the way." She even shoved my friend. How rude. When some of us finished our food already, she made a hand gesture pointing at the stuff on our table and asked in a patronizing manner, "uhh are you guys done with any of this?" Robin really needs to re-evaluate herself as a customer-service worker and be more professional on the job. I'm not trying to get this lady fired but I believe this is something the owner/manager should be aware of. So, hubby and I thought we'd go to JPs and catch the final game of the Little League World Series, have a beer or 3 and a burger. We decided not to sit at the bar (several loud bar flies) and sat at a table and waited. The table of 5 next to us was served drinks but still no one to take our order, so we wait...There are 2 bartenders for a total "crowd" of less that 20, and one has time to be on her phone, and we wait...After several minutes we decide to leave and ask the bartender if we were invisible, and she tells us that they don't provide table service. OK, but why didn't you tell us that when we came in, or when you brought the drinks to the table next to us?? We were only about 10 feet from the bar and were deliberately ignored. Oh well, after 30+ years in Tierrasanta we'll have to find a new local place. read more

Biggest dirt dive ever! Save yourself and don't go in this place. Derrick, one of the bartenders, thinks he owns the place and doesn't care how he treats the customers. He is rude and too busy being buddy buddy to the bartenders visiting on their day off. The female bartender is polite but you have to get past Derrick and his ego. Never again. read more

For as long as I lived in the area, it was my first visit to this Pub. I grew up in the neighborhood. I wasn't really drawn to this place. Maybe due to it being located next to Vons and smaller shops, it didn't seem like a Pub. Unlike other bars, this is more of a closed off area that doesn't seem inviting, until you see the advertisement on the wall in front of the Pub or on the street as you enter the parking lot. One of my foodie friend's wanted to stop by a bar for a drink. There were many places we could have gone that was near us after we ate dinner. We decided to hangout closer to her next destination. As we entered JP's Pub, it was a lot bigger than I imagined. I was in awe of all the old vinyl record album covers displayed on the walls. They have Billiard tables, TV screens displayed throughout the bar and a full bar that is located in the center. Since there were no seats in the bar area, we decided to sit closer to the Karaoke area. We were there before Karaoke started at 9pm and was able to watch a few singers do their thing. It was fun! I'm more of a light beer drinker and prefer wine over beer. I ordered a Shock Top. We each had a beer and called it a night. I might go again if I'm in the mood to hang at a bar. It's rare for me though, unless I'm with friends who like to drink. read more

We head over to JP's frequently on Saturday nights to grab a few beers and enjoy the karaoke. We're huge fans! It's not fancy or expensive, but it sure is fun! The beer is priced just right and the karaoke gals are great! I love the staff from the bartenders to the servers to the bouncers! It can get a little crowded at times but we've never had to stand (and we've attended on fight nights!). Overall, it's the one of my favorite bars here in San Diego! read more

Quite possibly the best wings I've ever had in my life!!! I mean if you liked smoked wings then this is the place for you. I almost don't want to talk them up in fear that they would ever run out in the future. The other food is typical of most bar food and is good but the reason I come here is for the smoked wings. On Thursdays they have .50cent wings and 3.00$ beers which is hard to beat anywhere. The beers here are a decent selection. I myself am a craft beer only drinker and not so much the domestic cheap stuff but they have something for everyone. The craft beers are reasonably priced at about 5.25 during normal hours but happy hour it might be cheaper. The atmosphere and environment may be somewhat lacking as the decor looks like something out of a 70's bar that has the smell of an old bar that was smoked in. This is a good sized dive bar where you want to take the boys and get away from the world. It is super dark in there but that doesn't deter me from tipping back a few pints weekly. If they painted and redecorated I think this bar would have more potential which would be bad for me because I don't need more reasons to go here other than the wings. If you are looking for a place to take a date, then I would look elsewhere but if you are wanting cheap beer and wings and to watch the latest sports showing then this is your place. They are really cool about switching whatever game you want on the different Tv's they have. Initially, I was a bit taken back by the bearded bartender outside looking at us like idiots when we were looking for the entrance. Once we got in, sat down and met our server....things were all good. Wings were delicious. Beer was drank at a rapid rate. The other customers were talkative and over all cool. I just found out that this bar is Pal Joey's sister bar. Heck Yes! My girl and I went last night for Halloween and this place rocked. There was a band and a lot of people dressed up and acting stupid. They have a sign on the wall with the bartenders names and Alisa and Alicia were hot as hell. Arrest me officer!!! The waitress works at the other bar I think, and is really cute. One of my boys kept trying to flirt and was shot down. The security is friendly and they actually talk to you when you chill outside. I live in La Mesa, but will def be driving back to JP's if it is always that fun. read more

Not a good place. I have been here several times due to the lack of other options in Tierrasanta. A strong sewage smell prevails. The bartenders are bitchy and slow. The bouncers are grumpy and do not let you get away with anything. The locals suck and will stare at your wife all night. The water tastes like the smell of my dog's farts. The soda sucks, too. There are strippers and bail bondsman trying to solicit patrons with authorization from the employees. The place is also flaming. If you want to be screwed with, go to JP's. read more

I guess I am the biker b**tch someone was talking about. Only I don't dress like a biker and have never worked a shift for Gail. There have never been 3 bartenders and being 135 and 5'5 must make me 20lbs overweight. Like someone else said, you get what you give. I try to be professional and welcome every new customer with a smile and a rundown of what goes on in the bar all nights of the week. A little negative feedback can always be expected, but rather than cry about it, I will take it as constructive criticism. She takes care of her customers and goes out of her way to make sure everyone in the bar, even those of us who sit at the tables, is served promptly. My first time coming to JP's Pub in Tierrasanta. I've passed by it hundreds of times and finally was convinced to try it by my cousin ChefUC. I just hafta say that, initially I did not trust the place which is why I think I never dined there. The waitress was real nice and even changed the channel on the television for us. Boy was I blown away: I had a beer (not sure the brand but very good), burger w/ fries and some smoked wings. The burger had grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoe, regular onions and cheese and was cooked to the perfect temperature.. This had to have been the best burger I've had in San Diego by far. I seriously don't understand why People like In N Out so much, maybe cause its cheap. But if you want a quality burger JP's is the place to go. Everything was perfect including the bun. And smoked wings, oh my gosh these were amazing. They had the perfect amount of spice. One hour later when I burped, yea it tasted smokey, simply awesome! This place most certainly spanks the heck out of Champion Field. I can't wait to go back and get another burger and smoked wings! This time I will ask for some ranch. I wish I could give this place 6 Stars out of 5 that's how good my experience was and the food was just out of this world. read more

JP's Pub... The responsible neighborhood bar. My wife and I love this place. In fact the staff is what keeps us coming back time and time again. A few hours ago some patrons where at the bar causing problems over a meal order they had placed where they felt other patrons who ordered after then were served first when in fact it was the complete opposite. They placed their order 20 minutes after. Clearly this couple had already had one too many or it was their first time drinking in public at a bar (I remember those days...). We happen to be sitting right next to this belligerent couple when after the staff pointed out that they had in fact placed there order 20 minutes after the other patrons the woman became irate and transformed in to a 12 year old that raided her parents liquor cabinet and clearly could not handle her booze... So we're sitting there and all of a sudden the drunken patron began kicking and screaming like a 2 year old when she through her tortilla chips amongst other items all over one of our favorite bartender (Derrick). Who are we kidding they are all our favorites at the Pub. Why do I call JP's the responsible bar? Because immediately following this circus act the staff and security removed these drunken idiots from the bar only to never be allowed in again. Serves them right, people that don't know how to drink in public have no business doing so and especially at JP's! Thanks for running a tight show, staying friendly, serving the best food and pouring our favorite drinks. Another Job well done by the JP's staff! CHEERS! read more
