We enjoyed good, fast service and delicious food. I was concerned when I read the reviews about the slow service here --- maybe the restaurant owner read them too, because our servers were fast and mostly friendly. Hopefully, they've "turned the corner" on that. The inside of the restaurant isn't pretty nor does it have an actual decor, but it was clean, casual, and comfy. And the food was great --- The black bean scallops and the salt/pepper shrimp were fantastic entrees. The dim sum cart wasn't available, but our server let us know that we were welcome to order anything from the dim sum menu. We tried the shrimp dumplings and they were yummy. Our entrees came out before the shrimp dumplings, but the food was good that I can't complain about that. Portions are large and the prices are reasonable. The menu is gargantuan. It took us a while to decide on our dishes. I like big menus, especially when the food is as good as this was. Life goal: tackle as many items on this menu as I possibly can! read more

Overall score 3/5 This is a review of their Dim Sum only. I usually come here on weekends for the Dim Sum when they have the carts going around, but today I had a craving on a Tuesday afternoon to eat some. We ordered the usual fare, Shu Mai, soup dumplings, egg noodles, turnip cake, fresh steamed veggies, the steamed rice in the banana wrap, and the fried shrimp wonton. I also ordered the hot and sour soup, the soup was good but the wonton chips they gave me were stale. Everything was pretty okay IMO, not excellent but okay. I'm not sure if it's because they had to cook up some of these things and maybe it was frozen as opposed to fresh like on the weekends? The Shu Mai was extra large which was awesome, however I wish it were smaller so I could just pop it in my mouth and have some of the outer wrapping to eat. It seemed super stretched. Anyway, so some things I've noticed...I think they boiled my Veggies on the same pan as some other food items because I saw some black pieces that I thought were dirt and some other pieces that looked like garlic or onions. I'm not complaining but I have no idea what they cooked before in that pan. If I were a vegan or vegetarian I would have freaked out. Luckily I'm not but still I didn't like that because I kept having to inspecting my veggy. The turnip cake was a little undercooked and was not crispy on the outside. The fried shrimp wonton was for sure not good. I ALWAYS get this too, it seemed like it was frozen for too long and was tough and not juicy. Thanks to Yelp we found this inconspicuous dim sum location. We made reservations but it was not needed. Not your typical dim sum spot with wheeled carts. You order off a menu. Dim sum locations are limited to a few items. The star of the show was the shrimp chow fun noodles. They had just enough chew and weren't stuck together. Great place for dim sum if you are in the area. Just don't expect a lot of dim sum choices. read more

I have no idea how effective that is, but they must improve their service. Recently, two of my buddies and I visited this place. We couldn't wait to check out this place. It didn't take very long to wait. Our server welcomed us after we were seated, offered us each a drink of water, introduced himself, and gave us a few minutes to peruse the menu. We were prepared to place our drink and food orders when a few minutes passed and our server was nowhere to be seen. To place our order, I had to flag down a new waitress. Our order was taken by a pleasant and accommodating server. But that was also his last appearance for us. The cuisine was decent. Nothing remarkable. I'm not a huge fan of dim sum, but there's rare moments every few years where I want it. I ordered the dough fritter fun roll, beef fun roll, and Peking duck online. It was supposed to be ready at 11:45, but was actually ready at 12:10. Not a huge deal. They do have designated parking spots for pick up, which is nice. As for customer service, I've always found places like these to be not on the very friendly side. There's no greeting, no thank yous, nothing of that sort, but it is common. The food is alright. The thick sauce spilled all over the dough fritter fun roll and was a bit much. The Peking duck comes with the thick buns, scallions, and sauce. I like the flat thin tortilla like wraps better, but these weren't bad. For $30 for a full order, I thought it was pretty fair. It's presented nicely too. The service wasn't THAT bad, there's definitely been worse places. The reasoning for the 3 stars is that the food is mediocre, not great and not bad. Quite honestly, a lot of dim sum places in the Dallas area are 3 stars in my opinion. The bbq pork bun and salted yolk bun was pretty dry, like they over steamed it...? Chicken feet wasn't too bad. We love the dim sum here. It's not super busy so we never have to wait. It's always fresh and delicious.

It's obvious that the restaurant is popular amongst the Chinese community so it's definitely authentic Chinese food. However while there is a vegetarian section in the menu, I wouldn't say it's the most vegetarian friendly. Food was okay, nothing superb in my books. This is the second time I've been here and I'm not that impressed. Probably wouldn't come back. Not that it has bad food but it's probably better for meat eaters. One thing to note, they charge tea by the people instead of the pot which makes no sense? some simply want to try it out and the pot can't be reused for other tables anyways? My boyfriend and I came here the day I was leaving Texas for lunch. It's located in an Asian market plaza with a huge grocery store, a boba shop, a cosplay shop and a few other cute little shops. I started my lunch with an Egg Drop Soup and I'll try to recall all the dim sum we got but some I don't remember what they were... Shrimp Dumpling Steamed Sticky Rice with Minced Pork Shrimp Fun Roll BBQ Pork Fun Roll Fried Shrimp Ball Sweet Sponge Cake Coconut Pudding I'm missing like two... I don't really remember what they were, sorry! This was the first time my boyfriend had tried dim sum and honestly I was here for the Fun Roll (which is one of my fav dim sum's but is kinda hard for me to find). Everything was amazing. The one I liked the most that I wasn't expecting to like was the Steamed Sticky Rice! I had never tried it before and it's one my boyfriend picked. It was SO good! We came here for a Saturday early dinner; slow service, food took a long time 45 minutes or so to come out. They lack waitstaff, maybe 2 or 3 people in the restaurant, so it took forever for staff to come to take our order and longer for the food to come out. The best dishes were the sticky rice with chicken and Chinese sausage wrapped in leaves, and the coconut bun (though the coconut filling was not very evenly distributed, so if you're splitting it you might get a very sweet and coconut-filled bite or one that is just sweet bread). JS Chen is right there with the other dim sum places I've been to. Ya come hungry and ya come full. Food: 4/5 I usually go there for their dim sum and they don't disappoint. They have a good variety of foods, so I recommend trying one of EVERYTHING (in different seatings of course, unless you're super hungry). Try the deserts too! (My fav is the egg tarts!!!) Once you do, you can sorta know which dishes you like/dislike. And JS Chen isn't crazy expensive so go for it! Service: 3/5 when they are busy, you kinda have to work and flag the waiters down, but they are good about doing whatever you asked them to do. Location: 3/5 every time I come here, I consistently have difficulty finding a close parking spot. I came here for a Sunday brunch and this place was B-U-S-Y. The food here was just OKAY, nothing to write home about, but the main problem with this place is the lack of carts. The entire time I was here, I had to constantly flag down waiters and often times they would already be out of the food that I wanted. I've been coming here for years with my family or my bf. We love dim sum and this place serves dim sum all day. Granted it's better to have it during brunch rather than Lunch or dinner but that's also when it's the busiest. They also have good food; authentic Chinese food. The food was good but they were lacking of variety and service was slow. Overall experience was just "okay" This is what I had between my mom and I. Black bean clams eggplant with shrimp liu sha bao shrimp dumplings and shrimp eggrolls Black bean clams was cold so that was the worse of all. My favorite was the liu sha bao, melted custard inside bao, shrimp dumplings and shrimp eggrolls were also delicious. The other favorite was the eggplant. It was mushy like some places. The dim sum ladies didn't speak English or had a clue of what I was asking. I don't speak mandarin or cantonese. After talking myself in and out of it, I came here for lunch by myself. Typically, it's way better to take more people for dim sum because you get to try a little bit of everything. When your by yourself, the bill can easily rack up if you want to get the same stuff a group normally would. But, I came anyway because my craving was getting out of hand and I needed a quick fix. (Just one taste! I promise, that's all I need!) I must say I was kind of expecting the carts to skip me, especially since there were huge groups ready to pounce on the cart pushers but I had a table full of dim sum only after 90 secs of sitting down. One lady was exceptionally nice and told me to eat slowly and enjoy my meal. Kind of funny since the entire place was pretty packed. Everything came out fresh and hot and was very tasty. I got full from the pork ribs, dumplings and turnip cakes that I didn't even get to my most favorite thing in the dim sum world, egg custard. I had a total of 6 items that equaled to about 24 bucks. We were looking for a new dim sum place as we've been going to the same one for quite some time despite it being just okay (but still one of the better ones in DFW). JS is comparable to the other. OK, I usually don't include/care for service especially at Chinese restaurants, but what they did on our last visit was totally unacceptable! My grandfather always pre-orders a set meal adding any dishes we like. Upon arriving, within 5 minutes the first dish came out, and within another 15 minutes ALL of our food came. We repeatedly told them to slow down and not to bring out any more dishes, but they COMPLETELY disregarded our requests and kept bringing all of our food out. We had over 10 dishes and they could not even fit on our table. Since it was the New Year, everyone was in a good mood and didn't say anything, but I was SO MAD inside. If they didn't have time for another seating, they should have simply not took our reservation. The menu item was "steamed vegetables", last time i checked steamed meant hot. The chicken feet were so heavy breaded and soaked in sauce you couldn't eat it them. The garlic ginger scallops were ok. I had a tiny amount to eat which was very noticeable when i asked for the check not the server or the manager asked if everything was ok, offer to take the cold vegetables off the check but instead asked if i wanted to take that nasty food home! Decent dim sum beyond Richardson area. There's usually not a wait here, so we get seated right away. The workers here understand enough English to get us what we need. When we are seated, they usually have a cart of dim sum ready for us to select from. My favorites are the baby squid and crispy taro dumplings (I think that's what you call it). The chicken feet here is just okay though. They have soup dumplings here and it's pretty good. They have everything that any other dim sum place have, except no other place around here have the baby squid. read more

We've tried JS Chen DIm Sum a number of times. Gone in the middle of a Sunday and it was great. The last few times though it's been quite a disappointment. We would order dim sum a la carte and the dumplings weren't bad but sometimes very over steamed. What was difficult was that it would take upwards of 20+ mins to receive the full order. Which doesn't bode well if you get full by the time the last order comes out. In almost all of the instances they forgot certain parts of the order. We made the best of it by just saying we were full so it's fine. In the end we would rather hit Kirin Court as long as they don't have a private event taking place. read more

Service was quick, they speak cantonese, mandarin and english so it was easy to converse and pick item. We had all the regular items like har gaw, congee, egg tarts, shrimp in flat noodles, spare ribs, fong jow, bbq pork buns. I found lunch to be quick and satisfying.
