ok, so I'm a picky pizza eater. I'll EAT any kind of pizza, but I only really LIKE eating certain kinds of pizza. I was starving after trying on clothes at Loehmanns. It was raining. I didn't have an umbrella. The only thing that could keep me dry was a delicious sicilian slice. Which I got. Actually I got two of them. Because I'm a pig. Oink. It wasn't too greasy (thank god....), plenty of sauce (which never seems to happen here in New York), plenty of delicious mozzerella. It tasted like crust, tomato sauce, and mozzarella and not burnt, greasy, and some sort of cheese. The crust was crisp on the bottom and soft on the top where it met the cheese. YUM. Two slices and a diet coke for $5.50? Sounds good to me. read more

I live one block away and have been meaning to try them for quite some time. It just seems every time I am craving a slice this place is long gone closed. The toppings are better than the surrounding area pizza joints, but for some reason it just doesnt taste as good - not much sense, 'eh? I folded it, twisted it, let the grease flow to the tip and pour off - in the end though it left much to be desired, just my personal thought. Oh oh, almost forgot.. It's also 3.25 for a slice of pepperoni, that's just too much for me. I can get a hamburger happy meal with small fry and kiddy sprite for that. read more

My go-to, favorite place! I am a HUGE pizza snob and I love this place so much. The pizza is delicious, they always have a great fresh variety with great toppings, and their classic margherita is to die for. Service is extremely quick and everyone who works there is friendly and efficient. Slices are big enough for me to need one to feel satisfied and they'll pack it up to go or do whatever you need. This is also the only place I'll go after going out. Can't say enough good things!! read more

My wife and I took a walking tour of the Chelsea Market and former meatpacking district (highly recommend that!) and we decided to walk from that area over to the village. On our way we walked past this little corner shop and decided to stop and get a slice. My wife got a tomato pie and I got crumbled beef with mozzarella and both were excellent! In fact it was so good that we kept talking about how amazing it is that you can just stop into what seems like any pizza joint in NYC and have some of the best pizza ever! What sort of surprised me about this particular joint is that there were no Italians to be seen. In fact, the guys that were running the place seemed to be of Hispanic descent. That kind of reminds of some awesome pizza I had one other time in NYC that was a joint owned by an Asian husband and wife that spoke very little English. Anyways, if you live anywhere near J's, or if you're just passing by, I highly recommend stopping in for a slice! read more

Picked up 2 pies from J's: plain cheese and veggie pizza (#1 I think). Pretty basic, no frills pizza place to feed 5 hungry hungry friends --we finished both pies and the slices are pretty big. Like any pizza, tastes diminishes when it gets colder so the crusts were doughy after a while and not great. But right out of the oven the crusts are delicious. Still doesn't compare to this place in Hoboken that has the most magnificent crust I've tasted in (near) the city. Good when stopping in for a quick bite! read more

ok- so many months ago I stopped in after leaving a friends house (4 hours and he never offered a snack or anything)- I was starving. They were closing and didn't have change of a 20- all I had was $2. he said that's fine and next time you are here I will take the $1. Well I moved in across the street and when I came back he refused to take it- he was happy that I stopped by. The pizza is really really good. I love the different toppings and the crust is yummy and crispy. All I need is a good wine bar and a good pizza joint near me and life is good. read more

2 words. Margherita Pizza. Hands down best margherita pizza I've had. The fact that I order a couple of slices fresh from the oven may have played a difference in how it tasted. J's had just set the bar in margherita pizza (tomato, basil, mozzarella cheese) . Ehh stopped in for a slice for a quick snack. Guy told us card machine was broken until we said we didn't have cash then it was magically "fixed" until he had to swipe the card then it "magically" wasn't working again. Good on the go slice of pizza for my girlfriend and I. Close to the subway, warm and quick. I had a chicken and brócoli pizza, Sabrina had a pepperoni pizza. The slices were ready in no minute and were good enough for late night pizza. I give this place four stars because of the way the restaurant was presented, the chairs were up and the restaurant looked ready to be closed. J's Pizza = yuuuuuum This is where you get your bang for your buck 100%. Not only is this one of the most affordable pizza places in the city, but it always tastes great, is ready super fast and the staff is extremely friendly and knows the locals. Doesn't hurt that it's open late as well. My boyfriend and I order from here usually once a week. I recommend a pie with sausage, mushrooms, tomato, onion and olives. good.great.thanks. :) read more

For delivery, I find they are thin crust pizza to be a bit undercooked. However their Sicilian and deep dish versions are super excellent.

I have gone to J's several times over the years since moving to NYC in Feb. 1999 and have always been very pleased with its service and extremely satisfied with the quality of its pizza. I bought a medium mushroom pizza for $18.50 and then added $1.50 tip for an even $20. I am so glad I tipped because the pizza was superlative and was cooked faster than the original 30 min. I was quoted. I played Pizza Deliveryman and brought it to my gorgeous boyfriend's home on W. 23. The pizza and my pizza "delivery" stint impressed my man so much that it led to the hottest night in our romantic relationship. 2 stars for the friendly Romanians who work this spot and that is it. I have tried the cheese, pepperoni and vegetarian slices. There is nothing that makes this pizza stand out. The store is grimy and the pizza is thin, tasteless, flat and frankly quite terrible. I think that Sbarro's tastes better than their re heated grease pies. This was the rudest pizza place I have ever been too. Went here on a hot day on my way home and when I tried to order pizza and water, we got yelled at for asking for tap water. And then the guys behind the counter tried fighting us because we asked for another cup of water. I have never felt more uncomfortable being inside a pizza place before. read more

I live two doors down, so this is my go-to spot for a good, solid slice. The topping selection available at any given time is more diverse than most pizza places I've encountered in NYC. The crust is thin, with a good chew and nice outer crisp. The employees are stoic but very nice, and even let me "owe them" for a slice when one night I found myself without cash (they newly have a $10 credit card minimum, which I'll forgive them for since I didn't leave hungry that night). read more

This is a really good pizzeria in Chelsea. I have had the pasta dishes and hero's and they are all really good. Today I went there for the 3rd day in a row and I've had Baked Ziti, Chicken Parm hero and the Lasagna respectively and they were all great.
