Wow...very impressed with the quality and quantity of food. Everything we tried was delicious, flavorful, not too salty and the ingredients complemented each other superbly !!! We ordered the Pork Wonton In Chili-excellent flavor although the wontons were a little chewy-4 Stars. Second was the Shrimp fried rice with plenty of shrimp-5 Stars. Third was the Pork Spareribs-excellent flavor but a little over cooked/fried-4 Stars. Fourth was the Sautéed Spinach with Garlic-they nailed it-5 Stars and finally the Eggplant with Garlic-fantastic-5 Stars. We were served by very kind and attentive Joe and supported by Lawrence. Highly recommend this place for not only the great food but free parking and clean restrooms. We did go on a weekday evening...I've heard from friends that there is usually quite a long wait on the weekends...Enjoy !'n
Been wanting to come here for a while and SO glad we finally did! First, the staff here are super friendly and attentive. Ordering is done via an ipad at the table but they're available for any menu questions and quick with water refills. Food is SO GOOD. You can really tell the dumpling wrappers (for dumplings, xiao long bao, and wontons) are handmade. They're more springy and al dente and beautifully wrapped. We ordered a ton of food and everything was really tasty I didn't react fast enough with photos. Xiao long bao are a MUST - and you gotta enjoy it with the vinegar and ginger! The cucumber salad is WAY better than ding tai fung's in both taste, texture, and portion! Chili oil wontons were big and deliciously fragrant, not spicy. Pan fried pork buns were crispy on the bottom with a soft and pillowy bread and juicy meat filling. We also got the combination fried rice which was beautifully golden eggy and full of meat & shrimp. The green beans were flavorful and not overly oily. Fried chicken wings were one of my favorites! Last but not least we also ordered the chonqing spicy chicken - not too spicy, full of numbing peppercorn goodness, fried lightly and very criispy. The restaurant is well decorated and clean, very spacious and good for groups. There's a cute gazebo table right at the front too. Plenty of parking in the plaza lot. . A great place for authentic Chinese food. Will definitely be returning!
Tried Ju Feng Dumpling Cafe for a late lunch on a Sunday and was surprised we were seated pretty quickly considering how packed the restaurant was. One thing we really liked was their ordering system. They leave an iPad at the table so you can browse the menu, place your order, and send it straight to the kitchen. It made everything super easy and efficient. We ordered the combination fried rice, pork potstickers, chicken dumplings, and green beans to share between 5 people. The food was good overall and portions worked well family-style. The potstickers and green beans were definitely the stars of the meal. Busy spot, efficient service, and a solid choice when you're craving dumplings in Poway.
This dumpling cafe is great! I've been here many times and they are consistent. I love getting their xlb, pork wonton in chili oil, honey walnut shrimp, chow mein, low mein, sautéed green beans, beef chow fun, pork spare ribs. Can't go wrong with any of those! The place is clean and can seat large parties. There is a cute seating right as you walk in. You can somewhat watch the ladies make dumplings and baos from the glass window. The service has been good too even though the servers seem to rotate out. I definitely recommend checking this place out.
One of the better restaurants in the area, in my opinion. The menu is pretty big so we always try to change it up. Seems like the orders are meant to be shared and the portions are pretty big, so we shared Mongolian Beef Chow Mein, Fried Shrimp and Pork Wontons, and Beef Pancake. Chow Mein tasted great, as did the Beef Roll Pancake. One of the better Beef Roll Pancakes I've had. Ordering is done through iPad and dishes usually come out one of two at a time, as they are ready. Plenty of parking outside. Depending on when you come, expect a long wait as the restaurant isn't that big for as popular as it is.
On the way through town, we picked up a large order for takeout and were pleasantly surprised by the food for the area. The menu is large and oddly a mix of Taiwanese, Shanghai, and other Chinese dishes. Ordering takeout in person was smooth and the guy working the front was nice and efficient. - xiao long bao 8/10 even despite the 20 min drive home, remained in tact and were nice and juicy - string beans 7/10 good but not the best, had a little too much black bean sauce - pan fried pork dumplings 9/10 wrappers were just a tad thick but juicy and good flavor, were cooked with a starch skirt - chicken wontons in chili oil 4/10 I usually don't get chicken but these wontons were unwieldy and the skin was not the thin wrinkly kind, sauce was weirdly sweet with not enough green onions - popcorn chicken 6/10 bland, wish it had five spice or more seasoning - beef pancake roll 9/10 if you like cilantro as there's a ton inside, this was really interesting here in that it tasted almost like pho
Ju Feng Yuan Dumpling Cafe is a small Chinese restaurant in Poway. This spot sits in a fairly rural part of San Diego, but wow was it delicious. I was shocked by how authentic and yummy the food was! Pan Fried Pork Buns are hard to find, and this place makes delicious versions of these Shen Jian Bao. The service was also so friendly. This dish takes a while to make, and they were constantly checking in on me. They even gave some cucumber appetizer to apologize for the wait. I highly recommend checking this spot out. Overall, Ju Feng Yuan has some of the best Chinese food. I cannot recommend enough.
Dumpling restaurants seem to have pop up as many as poké and Korean fried chicken restaurants have. Although, some of the dumplings served here are above average! Shrimp & pork wonton noodle soup ($16.55): this was the weakesr dish we've ordered, as it had standard flavors, 3.5/5 stars. Bbq pork bun ($6.99): soft but a tad dry dough, but the pork was tender with sweet & savory flavors, 3.5/5 stars Pan fried pork dumplings ($13.75): soupy, savory and a crisp but tender dough, 4/5 stars. Popcorn chicken ($9.99): crispy and well-seasoned with salt & pepper, 4/5 stars. Pork spare ribs with garlic ($16.25): must get for savory and crispy pork with pronounced garlic flavor, 5/5 stars! It is a good sign that I'm willing to return here for these items except the wonton soup, and I'd try other dishes.
Delicious Ju Feng Yuan is authentic Taiwanese cuisine! Service is friendly and welcoming. Ambiance is pleasant and tables are cleaned quickly. I love how each table had a side tissue. I definitely used the tissue when my mode ran from the spicy soup! This made me feel like I was in an Asia cafes. We ordered a variety of dishes and each had its own unique flavorings! A clean restaurant with efficient service. The menu includes many Chinese breakfast items as well as dishes from Shanghai such as XLB, fried rice cake and sweet and sour pork rib. All these dishes are well executed especially XLB which has thin skin and multilayered wrinkles that exemplified skills.
A really tasty place located in the suburbs. We got many dishes, and I will go over what we ordered. I would highly recommend getting the soup dumplings, and the chongqing chicken. They were both really good and I would definitely get it again. For me, the dumplings in the chilis were a bit too sweet for my liking but I still thought they were made really well. Also, the peanut mochi dumpling was just alright, and if I were to go here again, I would definitely try the chocolate dumpling. Regarding wait time and the line, we went on a weeknight and there was no line for us to enter. Parking was really easy to find and the restaurant was easy to locate. The restaurant was also clean and well maintained. I also liked that there was a tablet for us to make our orders as we please as opposed to waiting for someone to come and take out orders. I will say I wish they refilled our waters more frequently or just gave a big jug to the table. Overall, I would recommend going here, It was good!
I visited Ju Feng Yuan in Poway for the first time recently and was really impressed! This Chinese establishment specializes in handmade XiaoLongBao, handmade dumplings, beef noodles, pancakes, and stir-fried entrees. Upon entering I delighted in seeing the adorable smiling dumpling boy character. Despite being in a strip mall, this clean, well decorated restaurant exudes a classy vibe. The tables are elegantly appointed, to include a tablet ordering system. The interface was clear and easy to navigate. Not at all cumbersome and clumsy like those tacky Ziosk machines. My waiter was very friendly, helpful, and attentive. He thoughtfully offered recommendations, and I enjoyed visiting with him. The Green Onion Pancake was outstanding, although oddly served in a basket. My Pork Wontons in Chili Oil were excellent. Not overly spicy, just about perfect for my taste. Among the finer versions of this dish I've had. Overall, I highly recommend and look forward to visiting again soon.
The experience was blah 2 stars. The food taste was good at 3 1/2 stars. We order 4 mene items from the tablet. First came the orange chicken. 10 min later the fried rice. 10 min later the dumplings.. then another 10 min later, the soup. Hence the service was blah. Totally opposite of what we normally have experienced in other dumplings spot. Although I gave it a 3 star.... I atleast know what to experience and understand how to ask for my food in the order I would like to eat. Soup and dumplings.. then my chicken and rice. read more
We were looking for a dumpling place that was closer than Din Tai Fung. They sat us right away on a Wednesday evening. You order from an iPad which is pretty convenient but don't expect attentive service. We really enjoyed the noodles and tender beef in the special beef noodle soup. Be careful not to splash your clothes with the broth! The beef broccoli was ok. The beef could have been more tender and the broccoli was soggy. The pork soup dumpling was better than the chicken. Overall, the food and service is not quite as up to par as Din Tai but there's no wait and food is priced approx 20% less. read more

This place is a gem! Great service! Really friendly staff. The restaurant has ample seating and is clean. The food is excellent. Everything we ordered was delicious! They have everything that Din Tai Fung offers, but with bigger portions and cheaper prices. The place was busy and packed on a weeknight. It honestly pains me to give them anything less than 5 stars because this is one of my favorite dumpling spots in Poway, but I feel it's my duty to share what happened this afternoon. I found a steel bristle from a cleaning brush in our shrimp fried rice. We let our female server know immediately and she admitted it was from the cleaning brush and apologized, saying she would bring out a replacement. They never brought out a replacement fried rice so we sat and ate our xiao long bao and pan fried dumplings without it. When they brought out our bill, the fried rice was still on there and the male server kept insisting we were given the fried rice when we weren't...all they had to do was check their surveillance cameras. When the other female server came over, we had to again explain that they never brought our replacement and the other server was still trying to charge us for something we never got. She again apologized profusely and brought us 2 canned sodas to try and make up for it, both of which we left there. I still left a tip and was nice about it about it but I was definitely alarmed at the experience. My friend I dined with was the one that said something because I wasn't going to, initially. Sadly, it soured our experience as I LOVE this place. They have the best xiao long bao in town! Food is normally always exceptional though which is why I am leaving it at 3 stars, as I know it was an honest mistake. But if I had swallowed that steel bristle, it would have been disastrous...cue this story I read about recently. A boy came into the ER with ear pain. They couldn't find anything and sent him back home. He went to the ER 3 times before they were able to find a steel brush that is lodged in the side of his throat. Apparently he was eating a burger that day and they had used those steel brush bristle to clean the grill and it was stuck to the burger. That could have easily been me. Make sure you check your fried rice so it doesn't happen to you. Hopefully this is a lesson to staff to be more careful about preparing their food. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3 only because I've only had good experiences here prior. read more

Really delicious food in Poway. This location is always busy and once you try their food you will know why. We ordered: - shrimp fried rice: the rice was soft, full of flavor, lots of eggs, and veggies. I do wish it had more shrimp, since it had about 6 pieces - shrimp and chicken dumplings in chili oil: the wontons are so delicious, perfect amount of stuffing and served in a chili oil that has the right amount of spice that is not overpowering -pork spare ribs with garlic: these were perfectly crispy and very well seasoned. We were seated towards the back near the kitchen and were able to see the workers making the dumplings. Minus 1 star as the service could be a bit better, since no one would really stop by to check on us and refill our drinks. We had to flag someone down 2x to get someone to refill our water. Overall we will be back and try more dumplings as the food is really good. read more

One of the best dumpling restaurants! Very substantial menu with dumplings, noodles, and authentic Chinese dishes. Once sat down, the waiter will hand you an iPad to order. This is very efficient. The orders go into the kitchen immediately. Nice decoration with wall murals depicting Chinese cuisine. This is our 4th visit and will definitely continue to dine there. read more

We were on the way home from wine tasting and my 5 year old told us he wanted xiao long bao . Franticly I searched along our route to find a place and stumbled upon Ju Feng. Honestly I would never have found it otherwise. As we pulled up we saw a line of people patiently waiting to get in. It always makes me feel like we made a good selection when there are people waiting. The wait itself was not very long.We were shown to a table within fifteen minutes and The staff was very pleasant and helpful . Once the food started arriving we understood the line. The kitchen is open behind glass so you can see them making the dumplings, we tried potstickers, pork xiao long bao, and the truffle xiao long bao and they were all amazing! The wings were huge and perfectly cooked, and the spicy chicken took us right back to Chengdu . We were already planning on when we would be back before we even finished. read more

At the recommendation from a few other Yelp Elites for best dumplings near North County San Diego, I made the adventure to Ju Feng Yuan to check them out. The restaurant overall is in a comfortable shopping center with lots of parking. Inside the biggest eye catcher is the small dining set up for up to I think 6 people as soon as you enter, but plenty of other tables for varying sized parties. For a holiday, the dining room was packed, but their wait list is organized extremely nicely with columns for parties of varying sizing. It looked extremely easy to see what size the staff needed to call without scrambling through a long list of names and party sizes. We were seated fairly quickly and handed an iPad with the menu for easy ordering. Tables are stocked with black vinegar, chili oil, and soy sauce for dining preferences. And food came out at a reasonable pace. First and foremost the xiao long Bao were good. Flavorful, adequate amount of broth per xiao long Bao, though I recommend eating them first so the soup doesn't absorb into the filling and it stays nice and hot. Good balance for dumpling skin to filling, and the flavors were all present, unlike some other dumpling shops I've been to where they all tasted relatively the same when boasting different flavors, The pan fried pork and shrimp dumplings also had a solid dumping wrapper to filling ratio and burst with their own juices. Sautéed green beans and beef chow fun were good, cooked and seasoned and tasted delicious as well. Always a staple when my husband and I go for Chinese food. Overall a little more on the expensive side ($15-19/dish) but still a good choice for dumplings especially in the area. read more
So I've been here several times and the most recent visit was just a let down that it makes me not want to really go here any more. We went on a weekday for dinner so it wasn't extremely busy expecting to order the regular stuff we usually order. I like the concept of ordering on your phone as it is quicker than waiting for a waiter/waitress to physically take an order. Well the problem this time is that our food took forever and there were multiple items that were missing. It was extremely difficult to flag someone down to get help. A simple dinner that should have maybe took an hour took over 2 hours because they forgot all of our XLB orders multiple times. This is an authentic Chinese restaurant specializing in freshly handmade XLB, dumplings, noodle soup, beef roll, and stir-fried entrees. Interior is nice and clean with some traditional Chinese decors. Service is efficient and attentive. This is our comfort food spot for dumplings and XLB. Din tai fung lost some customers today bc JFY is replacing that spot in my heart. We came on a Saturday afternoon and luckily the wait wasn't too long ~20 minutes. The waitlist is old school pen and paper and the menu/order is through iPad at your table. They give a small marinated seaweed appetizer while you wait. We ordered the beef rice cakes, chicken and corn potstickers, chicken XLB, and spicy chicken and shrimp wontons. I personally think from these items, it was better than DTF due to the portion size and taste! The service was very inviting and helpful as well! The restaurant is very clean and cutely decorated. Can't wait to come back :) They also give a punch card - free entree after 10 visits. read more

Ju Feng Yuan: I've been to this restaurant a few times, and each time, the food is great. The service is efficient as well. If there is a wait, add your name to the list at the front of the restaurant. You order from a tablet at the table, and the food comes out quickly as it's ready. We've had the xiao long bao, dumplings, and a few of the noodle dishes before. Everything is flavorful, and the soup dumplings are always fresh and steaming when they arrive at the table. They each have a nice amount of soup. It's cool that you can also see the dumplings being made from a little window into the kitchen. Overall, would definitely recommend this restaurant. It is in a pretty unassuming strip mall, so don't write it off before you've tried it. read more

As popularity for xiao long baos went up, size of xlb's went down, but these are still an okay size. Ordering by ipad on table. Beef chow fun tasty & good amount of beef $19, chicken poppers wasn't just breading, good filler $10, could use some dipping sauces, xlb's good $13 for 8. Lunch for 2, no drinks $45 + tip. This was a great find! The mustard, green pork wonton, and chili oil was honestly the most amazing thing I've ever eaten at a Chinese restaurant. Not usually very adventurous eater, but this place did not disappoint. The food came out quickly. It was so flavorful the signature tasting of all the different dumplings was really fun personal favors food, the cheese and pork and the garlic and pork. I really enjoyed this dumpling spot! They have a great variety but also have other things on the menu like noodles, etc. You order on a little iPad which is fun and the service was good/fast. It was around $80 for 6 plates of dumplings and buns which I thought was pretty good given some of the more expensive dumpling places like Din Tai Fung. Was craving some XLB so decided to try this place that was close by. We got there on a Sat around 4 and was seated right away. There's a good amount of seating but it was fully packed by the time we left. There are tablets on the table for you to place your order. It was easy to use and convenient. We ordered: Black pepper beef udon - it was so delicious!! The beef was tender and the udon noodles were chewy and so delicious! Only thing I wished for was wish it was bigger for the price. But I still had leftovers haha Pork Xaio long bao - it had good flavor and lots of soup in the dumpling. Pan fried pork dumpling - it was a good size but wish it had more meat filling. Cartoon red bean bun - SO CUTE!!! I had to order these cuz they were so darn cute! The bun was chewy and the red bean wasn't too sweet. Need to try the custard one next time. It's in a plaza with plenty of parking. I would love to try the other dishes like the fried rice and their ribs next time. read more

My husband & I came by during lunch. It was a full house & we were seated immediately. Food was pretty good & portions were good. The place was clean & service was attentive. You order everything on an ipad when you're seated which I like. I'm glad there's a spot like this in Scripps because there aren't many decent dumpling spots in the area. I usually would have to drive deep into Mira Mesa or Convoy, but this place is not too bad. We took the kids here last time & they liked it too. read more

I would recommend this place. The good was good, although I wish I had ordered some dumplings. I had the Mongolian chicken lunch special with soup. I do wish they had served my soup first, as I didn't eat much of it, because my meal came at the same time. My only complaint was that they served my husband's meal about 5 mins before mine was served. It was still a favorable experience, and staff was friendly and restaurant is cute. read more

Took my mom to Ju Feng Yuan Dumpling Cafe, and she loved it! The pork & shrimp potstickers were juicy and flavorful, and the wontons in chili oil had a bolder kick than DTF's. The cumin lamb was aromatic, though my mom thought it was slightly overcooked, and the sweet & sour fish was a surprise favorite--perfectly balanced and appetizing. Service was friendly, and I learned their colorful soup dumplings are naturally dyed. Can't wait to come back on the weekend to try their giant soup dumpling with a straw! read more
This place is soo good! I can always come here and not be disappointed! Parking here is super easy. It's in a little shopping center so lots of space. Service here is pretty good. Not the best, could use improvements in communication however, it wasn't bad. Place was clean. I don't recommend sitting at the table right when you come in, in the little house thing, because every time someone would come in, a gust of wind would blow. Place filled up Saturday at lunch time. I ordered the won ton soup. You get 8 won tons with some bok choy. Bok choy was crisp and fresh. Loved the flavor. Won tons were a mixture of shrimp and pork. Loved the flavor. Soup was seasoned just the way I like with salt and maybe some msg. I also tried the black pepper udon noodles with chicken. Dish was bursting with black pepper flavor. A bit too much for me. I'd like this dish with maybe 30% of the normal amount of black pepper. Udon noodles were soft and had a mild flavor I liked. Chicken was tender and moist. 2nd visit. I found the downside to the online ordering. Normally I'd ask the wait staff to make changes to my order like no garlic on my chicken wings. With online ordering there was no option to remove the garlic. So I figured I'd brush off the garlic when my order came out. Sadly for me the garlic powder had adhered to the wings. I loved the thin layer of crunchy batter and the juicy wings. Loved the mild fried flavor. These would be great tasting wings without the garlic powder. Pork chow mein. Alot of the places I go to would list this dish under lo mein. I liked the ingredients in this dish. Mild flavored noodles. Crunchy cabbage. Bean sprouts with their mild flavor. Tender pork. What I didn't like was the heavy handed application of soy sauce. I couldn't really taste the ingredients. I'd probably love this dish if I could order it with 25% of the normal amount of soy sauce. This place was decent! We had a party of 5 and got 9 different dishes. For some of the dishes we felt like it didn't have much flavor other than pepper. The chicken wings are thickly breaded but the inside is really juicy. I enjoyed the custard buns but wish it had a little more flavor as well, my favorite thing we got was the bbq buns. Service was really fast and the servers were very nice and attentive! The restaurant had a lot of tables and ambiance was very nice inside and can cater larger parties. read more

"Discount Din Tai Fung" I got to try this place for lunch and was interested in finding another dumpling place in my area. Immediately, noticed the decor and ambiance of the restaurant. It was set up like a trendy tea shop with lots of murals and chinese ornaments. The food was authentic and had good flavor. The dishes were all fairly priced for a local Chinese spot that does more specialty dishes. They had classics like chow fun and fried rice, but also more regional dishes like pork spare ribs and of course soup dumplings. Our dishes came out quick and hot. Overall I really enjoyed the food and appreciated the excellent decor. I think the dishes were solid but not amazing; the food has good flavor, a bit salty, but didn't have enough distinction to elevate them over other chinese restaurants. My new favv Northern Chinese restaurant in San Diego! Where has this place been all my life?? So glad to have finally found some legitimate Chinese cuisine here in North County! This place is SUPER cutely decorated and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. You wait to be seated and use a QR code on each table to order your food through this method. I love this method because you can scroll through all the options, see pictures to really decide what you like! I tried: - Pork Xiao Long Bao: juicy and tender!! A delicious opportunity for late-night dim sum in Poway ! We stayed a little past closing and the staff was gracious and patient with us As soon as we ordered, food came out in batches (about 2 dishes at a time). The reason I gave a 4/5 is because I would have preferred more flavor on the Xiaolong Bao - but adding some of the chili oil from the table or the wontons was an easy fix for that! ***Shrimp fried rice was the best I've had anywhere tbh. Place was busy when we first came in, but cleared out around 7:30p (on a Monday). There is a huge bathroom in the back. The food is very delicious, the service was usually great/friendly the few times we've been here, and decor is really nice although it can get loud/echoey inside. It's usually pretty busy, but ordering is easy with the QR code. The last time we were there around noon on a weekend was very busy, and our food did come out slower than usual. We've tried the pork Xiao long bao, shrimp and pork wonton in chili oil, cumin lamb, black pepper beef fried udon, mapo tofu, beef chow fun and beef roll pancake. Our favorites have been the XLB (it had tons of soup), black pepper beef fried udon and wontons in chili oil. Everything was very flavorful, although the mapo tofu was a bit too salty. I was glad most of the dishes weren't overly spicy, and I can't tolerate too much spice. My only complaint is the prices seem a bit high given the small portion size for some of the dishes. I don't think they do. It seems like first come first serve basis. They have a sign in sheet at the front when you get there
Are any of their soup dumplings vegetarian? This is the first restaurant I've seen that has vegetable Xiao long bao and cheese Xiao long bao but the menu doesn't specify if they still contain meat
They do have one kind of vegetarian dumplings, but they have quite a selection of other vegetarian options. We've tried many of their vegetarian dishes, and they are quite delicious.
Is msg used in the dumplings? I have to ask because of a serious medical allergy.
I can't have MSG either. While I don't get seriously ill, I do get a strange reaction to it in my sinus area. But, I'm not 100% certain, so my advice is that you contact the restaurant directly.
Do they sell frozen dumplings?
