We arrived at about 10 minutes before opening and there were already a couple people lined up out front. Once seated you scan the QR code at the table and you order right from your seats without having to talk to anyone. Someone still came by to check if we needed help though so at least you won't be stuck if you have questions. We ordered the Pork Xiao Long Bao ($12.75), Shrimp & Pork Wonton in Chili Oil ($13.55), Signature Flavored Stewed Beef Noodle Soup ($15.65), Cucumber with Garlic ($8.50), and Shrimp & Pork Wonton with Soup ($14.75). We could tell that the cucumber hasn't been marinated in the spicy sauce at all and was only topped off with it before it arrived at our table. Both of the wonton dishes were pretty good, and I actually liked the wonton soup the most of of the dishes that we got. The chili wontons were topped with the same sauce as the cucumbers were, and it tasted more sweet than spicy. The xiao long bao has a thicker wrapping than the ones from din tai fung, but the filling was still good. I also liked the beef noodle soup, also I wish that it had a bit more flavor to it. Overall this is a closer location for those in the North County area, but I'd still prefer Din Tai Fung over this. Those woks are on 110% dishing out the most flavorful Chinese dishes at record speed. Don't be discouraged if the servers neglect you. We ordered the chicken fried rice, noodles, beans, spicy pork dumplings, and chongqing spicy chicken. Everything was so flavorful and portions were large. You are told to order through the QR code so there isn't much interaction with servers which is okay, but the service overall was kind of slow. The rate that our dishes came out in made it awkward where we had already finished the dish that was brought out and had to sit around for a bit waiting for the next one. I've had this place bookmarked for a while so I had very high expectations, but it didn't meet them. Everything was a bit bland, and the beef noodle soup was too oily and flavorless. It also felt like the portions were really small for the price point. The dumplings were okay, nothing special. The xiao long baos were the best dish but not worth going out of your way for. Food is average BUT it's local and try to support, plus easier drive than UTC. Multiple times now ordered to go and the time order will be ready has never been met. The most recent time is 45 minutes after was told it would be ready. 1 hour and 20 minutes from when the order was put in. I can, and will, from now on just drive to Din Tai Fung, pay more, get better food and still be home back in Poway before my order is ready here. Really happy that there is a good Chinese option up in this area now! Super super recommend this place. They are reasonably priced, with good portions, and the food is AMAZING! We were lucky enough that one of our friends suggested that we try Ju Feng Yuan. We are so grateful for that recommendation! We came in for dinner around 6 PM on a Saturday. Fortunately, there was no wait, and we were seated right away. They have a really cool way of ordering on an iPad that magically results in this amazing food showing up at your table. We ordered a wide variety of things and everything was outstanding. The soup, dumplings and pan fried dumplings are outstanding. The green onion pancakes are a must try. I would honestly recommend everything on the menu. They even had chocolate dumplings as a special and I desperately hope they keep them on the menu because they were so delicious. The overall restaurant is bright and welcoming. And I can't say enough amazing things about the staff. They came over to make sure that we enjoyed everything and we're genuinely happy that we did. We've been here a handful of times and each meal seems to get better. My last 2 visits we tried: Shrimp & Pork wontons in chili oil: - you get 8 plump wontons. Each one seemed to have a good size piece of shrimp. The chili oil is DELICIOUS. I wonder if we can ask for a bit more of it next time. The dish always comes out piping hot and has been the highlight of the meal. Combination fried rice: - it's a nice size portion with shrimp, pork, sausage. It could have had more of the protein but it was a good fried rice regardless Hot & Sour soup: - this was a wonderful hot soup. Menu says there's pork in it but our version today had some sort of spam which I didn't like. Maybe they ran out of pork so I'd ask next time to omit the spam meat or sub something else. Pork Spareribs with sweet & sour sauce: - it's a smaller portion but tasted delicious! I like fattier spareribs . There were also more lean ribs in the dish. The sauce was thick and sweet (I'd wipe a bit off as I don't like too much sauce). You can order via the QR code on table or from one of the servers. The hot tea was comforting during the meal. I'm not Chinese and so I don't precisely know how good the food is at JFY's, the same way a Chinese person will likely lack my knowledge of excellent Italian food vs. very good. I can say that for the average dumpling diner JFY is very good. I can say this because it took me 2 hours to try it from San Bernardino county. If I got there and it was inferior food I'd have known immediately and been pissed. It compared almost exactly to my local fave ONE MORE BITE DUMPLINGS. In some ways it was even better. Both spots have a nice interior, but nothing beautiful. It seems Chinese dumpling houses consistently have a more utilitarian aesthetic. The one thing I'd ask JFY to consider is cushions for their hard flat seats. Bring one if you're like me. A sign that this restaurant is very good is it got packed on a Thursday night. Considering their remote location, I'm impressed. If this in were in a Downtown anywhere in California: lines out the door. Shrimp, pork, chive dumplings- these were made to order and delicious. Ingredients tasted fresh, the filling size was appropriate, and the skins were thin but sturdy. Again, this dish can be a little hotter. 3. Sauteed string beans- tastes fried like it's supposed to, but again lacks wok hei (not hot enough). The true skill is in making of the skin; it was thin but sturdy enough to hold the filling and the soup. So happy I tried this spot in Poway. Feels authentic from the minute you walk in and open the menu. Parking was very easy in this plaza. There was even a small pagoda in the middle of the Chinese restaurant with a table inside for seating a larger party (around 6 people)! I ordered the pork and shrimp wontons in chili oil and the mongolian beef chow mein. The chow mein was tasty but a tad greasy for my liking so I don't know if I would order it again, but the pork and shrimp wontons were fantastic.
