It was set up like a trendy tea shop with lots of murals and chinese ornaments. The food was authentic and had good flavor. The dishes were all fairly priced for a local Chinese spot that does more specialty dishes. They had classics like chow fun and fried rice, but also more regional dishes like pork spare ribs and of course soup dumplings. Our dishes came out quick and hot. This is a hidden gem. (I debated for a second on if I want to share the secret ;) ) Dumplings come in steamed or pan-fried and both are equally delicious. I have been here dozen of times and they are consistently good. I love their soup dumplings, they taste like homemade and it's fresh and juicy. Best when order and enjoy it there. Although I have ordered to go many times and they are still very good.. just naturally no longer "soupy" once you get them home. This has become one of our favorite Chinese restaurants in San Diego. The food is very delicious, the service was usually great/friendly the few times we've been here, and decor is really nice although it can get loud/echoey inside. It's usually pretty busy, but ordering is easy with the QR code. The last time we were there around noon on a weekend was very busy, and our food did come out slower than usual. We've tried the pork Xiao long bao, shrimp and pork wonton in chili oil, cumin lamb, black pepper beef fried udon, mapo tofu, beef chow fun and beef roll pancake. Our favorites have been the XLB (it had tons of soup), black pepper beef fried udon and wontons in chili oil. Everything was very flavorful, although the mapo tofu was a bit too salty. We arrived at about 10 minutes before opening and there were already a couple people lined up out front. Once seated you scan the QR code at the table and you order right from your seats without having to talk to anyone. We ordered the Pork Xiao Long Bao ($12.75), Shrimp & Pork Wonton in Chili Oil ($13.55), Signature Flavored Stewed Beef Noodle Soup ($15.65), Cucumber with Garlic ($8.50), and Shrimp & Pork Wonton with Soup ($14.75). We could tell that the cucumber hasn't been marinated in the spicy sauce at all and was only topped off with it before it arrived at our table. Both of the wonton dishes were pretty good, and I actually liked the wonton soup the most of of the dishes that we got. The chili wontons were topped with the same sauce as the cucumbers were, and it tasted more sweet than spicy. The xiao long bao has a thicker wrapping than the ones from din tai fung, but the filling was still good. I also liked the beef noodle soup, also I wish that it had a bit more flavor to it. Overall this is a closer location for those in the North County area, but I'd still prefer Din Tai Fung over this. We just moved from LA to SD and finding a good Chinese place has been a absolute mission. Everything we've tried has been a 1/5 compared to LA Chinese food. Even the Panda Express taste better in LA (joking). This was until we went to ju feng yuan. Once you get seated you order everything on a iPad and like a true Chinese restaurant they move fast. Those woks are on 110% dishing out the most flavorful Chinese dishes at record speed. Don't be discouraged if the servers neglect you. We ordered the chicken fried rice, noodles, beans, spicy pork dumplings, and chongqing spicy chicken. Everything was so flavorful and portions were large. It's a cutely decorated interior and service started off good, but then it took what seemed like forever for us to get our pan fried dumplings. I'm not Chinese and so I don't precisely know how good the food is at JFY's, the same way a Chinese person will likely lack my knowledge of excellent Italian food vs. very good. I can say that for the average dumpling diner JFY is very good. I can say this because it took me 2 hours to try it from San Bernardino county. If I got there and it was inferior food I'd have known immediately and been pissed. It compared almost exactly to my local fave ONE MORE BITE DUMPLINGS. In some ways it was even better. Both spots have a nice interior, but nothing beautiful. It seems Chinese dumpling houses consistently have a more utilitarian aesthetic. The one thing I'd ask JFY to consider is cushions for their hard flat seats. Bring one if you're like me. A sign that this restaurant is very good is it got packed on a Thursday night. Considering their remote location, I'm impressed. If this in were in a Downtown anywhere in California: lines out the door. So don't fear it might be lame because you've never heard of it... because... now you have. GO! Food is average BUT it's local and try to support, plus easier drive than UTC. Multiple times now ordered to go and the time order will be ready has never been met. The most recent time is 45 minutes after was told it would be ready. 1 hour and 20 minutes from when the order was put in. I can, and will, from now on just drive to Din Tai Fung, pay more, get better food and still be home back in Poway before my order is ready here. So happy I tried this spot in Poway. Feels authentic from the minute you walk in and open the menu. Parking was very easy in this plaza. There was even a small pagoda in the middle of the Chinese restaurant with a table inside for seating a larger party (around 6 people)! I ordered the pork and shrimp wontons in chili oil and the mongolian beef chow mein. The chow mein was tasty but a tad greasy for my liking so I don't know if I would order it again, but the pork and shrimp wontons were fantastic. Definitely hoping to come back and try some of their other specialties in the menu like the xiao long bao, and some of my personal Chinese favorites like hot+sour soup and stir fried green beans also looked very promising. Immediately walking in I felt I was in an authentic place and about to eat some delicious food. The service was kind and effective.
