The old Juan Pollo was located just down the street right off Van Buren Blvd. This one is located about 1/2 mile East of Van Buren on Limonite (next to the theater). The first thing I noticed is that this location has a lot less seating than the old location. When I arrived during lunch time, it wasn't long before all the tables filled up. I usually order the lunch special, which is two pieces of chicken, along with two sides and three tortillas for just over $6. Since the chicken is on a rotisserie machine, it's almost served immediately after you order it, so the wait is minimal. The chicken at Juan Pollo is very tender and juicy. As you dig into it, it just falls apart. I love ordering my meal with their delicious rice (which has pieces of chicken mixed in), and their awesome potato salad. I normally don't like potato salad, but I love this one. My wife doesn't care for it much, so I guess it comes down to preference. The restaurant could have been cleaner as I noticed there wasn't very many places to sit since 6 out of their 8 tables where dirty. I do give the girl behind the counter credit as she over heard me mention the dirty tables, and came out and cleaned ours right away! Overall my visit was very pleasant. My companion (who was here for the first time) also was very pleased with the food. I'm looking forward to my next visit. read more

This location is in a dying shopping center-the anchor-a huge Von's has been closed for years....there is a 99 Only at one end of the parking lot--so getting to Juan Pollo is a major challenge playing "dodge-em" with CRAPPY drivers! The store is also VERY run down and just "looks" sad and dingy. But I digress Out doing errand and decided to run in, grab a chicken and some sides and take it home. HOW many times have you chastised yourself for NOT looking at your food in a TO GO order! I asked for the chicken (the skin was GREAT-chicken was dry) to be cut into 8 pieces-lordie what a hatchet job - and the salsa was in a container big enough for A TACO...really??? with a WHOLE chicken! The rice plopped out of the container in one dried CHUNK and it was BURNED. You know how rice looks when you SCRAPE it off a pot when you have forgotten to turn off the burner--it comes off in burnt slabs--that is what was in the container. Tortillas were fine I ordered these items ala carte (and paid for them per EACH) so I could package a couple other meals STUPID STUPID STUPID...LOOK before you leave! OH! If you want to use an ATM or credit card you get hit with a nice charge! Luckily I noticed the very SMALL hand scribbled piece of paper on the side of the cash register and used CASH. Juan Pollo is the third cousin, twice removed, of El Pollo Loco. They put out a similar product but Juan Pollo can sometimes outshine El Pollo Loco in the flavor department. What I do like about Juan Pollo is the size of their chicken; it's slightly larger than El Pollo Loco's. However, they cannot compete with El Pollo's special event pricing. There are several Juan Pollo's located throughout Riverside, althoughI haven't been to any other locations so taste comparisons are lacking. The sides could be better, especially the beans. When you're a smaller chain, you have the ability to put some heart and soul into what you put out. Once you become corporate, your morality leaves you forever. My family loves eating here. We usually order either the mini pack or family pack which is either 1 whole or 2 whole chickens. This place blows other major chains out of the water, the flavor on the chicken is great. The rice and beans fit well (not the best but definitely not the worst) and their tortillas are great. Sometimes if we're making our own taco's at home i even go out to get just their flour tortillas. They're that fluffy, soft and delicious! Only downside would obviously be the location (its in a run down center), but that's not their fault. If you like good chicken, eat at this place! read more

Juan Pollo has been serving rotisserie chicken since 1984. Charbroiled to perfection, each bird comes with a nice crispy skin that is just salty enough in flavor. The chicken is moist, tender and very flavorful. This chicken puts El Pollo Loco to shame. The sides here are nothing to write home about, but I am a fan of the potato salad for some reason. I don't like most potato salads because it is just steeped in mayo, but Juan Pollo's is very lightly dressed. The other standard sides are rice and beans. Each order comes with tortillas and salsa. We bought the 2 whole chicken special with 30 corn tortillas, lrge beans, rice, and potato salad. oh and a half chicken because we werent sure if it was enough for us 5 we eat alot. surprisingly we had more than enough and it came out to a little over $30.00. chicken was delicious. i loved the rice. beans n potato salad were ok, but the tortillas were the bomb! i would recommend eating here but for take out lol the inside is a little suspect. I like the chicken a lot. It's always juicy and delicious. I've had the rice at other Juan pollo locations and this one could do a better job to make it moist. The service was fast and friendly. It's a couple of doors away from another Mexican restaurant but seems to be holding its own. There is an odd smell when you enter, but I've noticed it at other Juan pollo establishments too. I hadn't been to Juan Pollo for awhile. I got a coupon in my Sunday paper so I decided to go back. Of course my coupon didn't work because there was already a sale going on. So this 'sale' ends up being over $32 for 2 chickens and 3 large sides....I was in a hurry with no back up plan sadly, so I got it. I chose potato salad for all 3 sides because I've always loved the different way they make it. I get the food home and the chicken is way over cooked, the breasts were super dry. No one ate any of the leftover chicken. Then there's my favorite potato salad, 2 days after I got it, it had gone bad!! I threw a full x large container away. What a disappointment this meal was!
