I only came here because I thought it was a sister store of Juci Jerk in Stone Mountain. I asked when I got there and was told they "used to be'. If you know the story behind the Stone Mtn location you wouod understand why this was Strike 1. But since Im here ok let's try it. Strike 2 - the music is TOO LOUD. The person who took my order and I had to repewt ourselves multiple times to be heard and understood. I have been to this establishment a few times because it's near to the house. It's not my favorite by far, the only thing I can say is the jerk pork is good. However I ventured out to order curry chicken, yuck! The flavor was lacking, the rice was not flavored, the cabbage lack luster. I was really looking forward to trying Escovich Fish, but unfortunately my meal didn't live up to expectations. I ordered the escovitch snapper, which came with only two slices of bread -- no sauce on side -- and the fish itself was a bit dry inside, not fresh (like it was reheated) and quite oily on the outside, covered with onions & red/yellow peppers. I also tried the curry chicken patty, but it was dry and a little hard. I wanted to love it because the flavors sounded great, but the texture just wasn't there. We went to the counter to look at the menu and the first thing I noticed was that the items I wanted were only available on Friday and Saturday:( I was then told that the next two items I wanted required me to have booked them advance. This place has the best Jerk wings, jerk dark, and curry chicken I've ever had in Atlanta and possibly ever. The curry has its good days and it's ok days (I'm assuming depending on who's cooking in the back) but the wings fall off the bone EVERY TIME! They are consistently amazing. I usually get curry whenever I get Jamaican but this place has changed me into a jerk wings girl! Oddly, you can only pick them up and can't get them delivered as of the day of this post. I have to rate it 3 stars instead of 2 because the jerk is good, but the portion size is disappointing. I ordered the combo with a side of white meat chicken for $8.99, but only received half a chicken breast. I had to request a refund for the chicken. The cashier didn't know how to process the refund, so I was left with a void receipt that I might need to resolve with my bank. I had a great experience here months ago, but it seems like the quality has declined since then. The food grade score is a B now and the place is practically empty. First of all the place was empty, the cashier was nice and gave me an idea of what to expect for serving size. My order for a large jerk rib meal was about $23 which included tax. I got maybe 4 1/2 bones and they weren't even full bones of ribs, more of just the rib tip part. The flavor was good and the meat was somewhat tender except the tough burnt edges. She was bent over the counter talking, and about after a minute or 2, she gets off and greets me....Really? Oh well, not horrible though. However, this restaurant is very spacious!! Plenty of seating, and I was the only customer at the time. I actually thought they were closed. Anyway, on to the food. I ordered the "jerk" pork plate, which had white rice (substituted), cabbage, and a plantain (just one). The "jerk" pork didn't taste like jerk at all...tasted like grilled (off the grill) pork. Good God this food is goooood! I learned about them on Yelp and stopped in today for a late lunch. I ordered what the gentleman ahead of me in the line purchased: The Regular Oxtail Plate with a side of Jerk Chicken. The food was prepared fast, was hot, so flavorful, and equally delicious. This is got to be some of the best, if not the best, jerk chicken I've ever eaten. The oxtails were perfectly cooked, to the degree where they just fall off the bone. Parking is ample in an private lot, and it wasn't crowded at all. Their dining room is closed but there are some chairs and small tablets for waiting on your take-out order. Amazing, amazing Jamaican food, and I so love their name. They are not just a restaurant. They are the Juci Jerk Center. Now, that says something. Bravo! read more

The place has definitely changed in the past couple of months and gotten more expensive. I went here a few months ago and really enjoyed it. I thought that the jerk chicken meal was good and the prices were reasonable (it used to be $15 or so for a large jerk chicken mea). My only complaint the first time that I went was that the music was way too loud inside but it was fine because I ordered to go. However, I just went back last night, and my experience was not great. It seems like they did some renovations inside and at the same time they also increased the prices by a couple of dollars for each dish. The ambience just felt kind of strange to me. The music was extremely loud like a lounge. We had to ask them on several occasions to please turn the music down and they said that they would but I'm not really sure if they did or not. It was actually so loud that we were having trouble communicating at the order desk. The chicken was flavorful, but it was a bit rubbery and hard. The rice and beans were OK, the cabbage did not have much flavor, and the plantains were cold. I don't think I would be back. I think they need to reevaluate what vibe they want the restaurant to have. Based on the location I would recommend they focus on the food instead of trying to create a lounge vibe. read more

This doggone pandemic is really affecting every aspect. It goes without saying - that people losing their lives (or losing loved ones) or being left with permanent health issues is the worst aspect. People losing their jobs - or homes as a result of loss of income is awful as well. Yelp even posted something a few weeks back asking reviewers to pretty much take it easy on restaurants or other businesses if the issues you experience might potentially be pandemic related. I think that's an awesome thing and believe that exceptions should always be made for extenuating circumstances. I also believe that everyone has an off day - and people deserve 2nd (or third or sometimes even 4th chances). But - as a consumer - is it fair to expect me to take my hard earned dollars and spend money on subpar or inedible food? Having said all that - Juci Jerk used to be one of my favorite spots. I stopped here several times before my first review. Told friends & family members about them. Any time the SO asked if I wanted him to pick up food, I would typically suggest them. BUT alas, sadly . . . I'm no longer enamored of them. The last 6 - 8 times times we ordered takeaway from here over the last two months - the food has been bad. Dried out chicken, dried out ribs, dried out pork shoulder. Two times, those big, delicious crinkle fries I raved about - were dark and greasy as though the oil hadn't been changed. Tonight - I took a chance and ordered the Pork and fries. The sliced pork shoulder was noticeably smaller - but I can forgive that - what I can't forgive is the fact that it was FULL of bones. Since I'd never experienced this - I literally bit down on a bone, thinking it was all meat - and nearly cracked a tooth! I popped another slice in my mouth - chewed tentatively - no bones - so I thought the first piece was a fluke. Tried another piece. No bone. Okay . . . Great . . . Tried another piece and promptly bit down another bone. (There was something going on with Cobb County Police ... the police were 'parked' at intervals - all up and down the Powder Springs Street ... and then a whole bunch of police cars - even an antique Cobb County police car - started to come out of Natchez Trail [the road that borders the restaurant / plaza] - so after sitting in the parking lot unable to pull out, I cleaned my hands with a wet wipe and tried to eat some of the food. I didn't want to waste my money - couldn't see very well - so I kept squeezing the pieces to try to see if there were bones - but because the pork was a bit hardened and dried out - it was difficult to tell based on touch. And my beloved crinkle fries that looked so lovely when the cashier flashed my food at me during pick-up - when I actually tried to eat them - I kept biting into raw undercooked potatoes! Once I got home - I still wound up throwing away about 1/2 my food. If there were 12 pieces of pork shoulder - at least 7 of them that had either large pieces of bones - or slivers of bones. I gave up on the french fries long before making it home - after biting into my 5th/6th undercooked french fry. (I actually wound up just coming back out and trying to hit up DQ for a burger. That didn't work out either. Figured that was the universe telling me - to carry my butt back home - and cook - so that's what I did. Lol.) I don't know if they changed the pork shoulder to bone-in to save money / offset pandemic's impact on their earnings. I don't know if they keep the food in holding trays longer and don't throw stuff out because it's hard to predict volumes during the pandemic. I don't know if they don't change the cooking oil as often to save money. I don't know if they had an influx of call in orders (it was clear that they business was booming when I came in) - so they rushed my fries and that's why they gave them to me raw. But - all in all - tonight's actual meal was a 0 or 1 star - but I'm bumping them up a star because I'm factoring in the first four visits - when we experienced excellent customer service and amazing food. *Also - the music has gotten louder and louder - especially at night. It makes it difficult for you to hear them / or for them to hear you when phoning in an order. And same thing when you actually arrive - struggle to hear. Especially when wearing masks and talking through the little plexiglass partition. The cashier had to ask my name twice. And she struggled to hear my question about napkins. I understand that they're going for a loud, island-festive vibe - but there is no dine-in - anyone coming in - is simply trying to get in and get out and avoid COVID. A quieter atmosphere seems like it would be more conducive to communication - and thereby efficiency. I thought about calling them to speak to them about my dissatisfaction with my order - but I felt like trying to shout over the music - could potentially turn into me being perceived as shouting AT the cashier - so I didn't even try. read more

Two things immediately captured my attention while perusing through their yelp pics: The Jerk Ribs and the Pepper Shrimp. Since it was close to my sons place of work (and you can't eat inside anyway) I decided to pick up a to-go order and take him lunch. Back when he worked on my side of town, we'd try to get together every few months or so for a father/son date. But since then he has gotten married, moved, had a baby and switched job locations. Introverts and non-social people are loving this new normal, but us extroverts and family-oriented folks are dying from lack of in-person interactions with our loved ones. *** THE FOOD ~ JERK CHICKEN & JERK RIBS COMBO (5 stars) | $17.50 Both the chicken & ribs were fantastic in flavor, full of smoky grilled goodness that I've had many times on the streets of Montego Bay. They are as good, if not better, than my favorite place to eat when in Jamaica which is a restaurant named Scotchies. Juci also provides sauce, but I personally didn't think it needed any. ~ OXTAILS & GRAVY (3 stars) | $14.50 regular size This is my number two go to dish when eating Jamaican cuisine (number one would be Curry Goat). I've had oxtails all over the Metro Atlanta area and all throughout the South. In my opinion, the oxtails here @ Juci Jerk are average in flavor, above average in cost and slightly below average in quantity for the money. Most of the pieces of meat in my meal were not only small, but EXTREMELY fatty, which was very disappointing. I doubt the actual meat added up to even a hot dog in weight. ~ PEPPER SHRIMP MEAL (3.75 stars) | $11.50 The flavor of the shrimp is very good, albeit somewhat spicy. While I did enjoy them, I can't quite put my finger on why I was not a total fan. Maybe I will like them better on a future visit. ~ BEEF PATTY (4.5 stars) | $2 I'm fairly convinced most all Caribbean restaurants order patties from the same supplier and don't make them in house. Almost all local Atlanta restaurants patties taste identical, with only the quality of the cooking being the separator. Here it was nicely cooked with a crispy (but not too crispy) exterior and piping hot filling. I arrived close to opening time, so my patty did not get the chance to dry out while sitting around for hours in the warmer like some places. ~ SIDES (4 stars) | included with meal The rice & peas were okay, but a tad dry when not covered in gravy. The cabbage was unusual in that it was seasoned beyond what I have come accustom to and I liked it! The plantains were nicely cooked AND sweet, something that is not always the case, so I was delighted. *** THE SERVICE / AMBIANCE It was empty when I arrived and the staff were all around back in the kitchen. No one noticed I was there for nearly 3 minutes, but once they did, they promptly came to take my order. It took longer than I expected to get my food, but the woman taking the order was pleasant and friendly. The restaurant dining area is rather large, but tables & chairs have been put away as inside seating is closed during this pandemic. There is also a bar area which too is closed, as evident by all the fliers and business cards covering it. *** FINAL THOUGHTS Being that I am not from this area and it is nearly an hours drive, it's tough to say that I would recommend the drive unless you happen to be in the area or within a reasonable distance. However, if you are looking for authentically good Jerk Ribs and Chicken, it is worth considering. I will definitely return, and my son said his coworkers sampled some of the extra meats and vowed to start going here for lunch! The original Juci Jerk is the a little shanty shack on in city of Atlanta on Northside Ave. Place is always packed. This place in Marietta is a full restaurant- but only take-out due to the pandemic. I've had this food from this location three times. Chicken & Rib (meat only) $14.74 and Side of Small Rice $5.75. I only tried this place out because my old faithful has been closing earlier than stated since Covid and i was craving some oxtails. I searched Yelp which normally never fails me. I saw this location had 28 reviews and 4.5 stars... ok! I'm here for it. Hubby and I drive 9 minutes out of the way to try. Upon entering there is a sign that tells patrons take out only. There is a gentleman who has finished ordering and literally takes another 5 minutes to pay and the lady taking money caters to his long winded conversation while we, the only other patrons wait. She puts his food in a bag and tenders to him until he leaves. I mention a plate "I noticed another Yelp reviewer raves about" (the meat platter) which should have clued her in that it was my first time here. But remember I came for oxtails... just wanting to try a bit of everything. I order the large oxtails (remember Yelpers said they were so good), 5 jerk wings a beef patty and my hubby just ordered pork. The oxtails --I didn't even finish them. Instead of being good food literally a waste of calories. Another reviewer described the rice and peas as just rice w/ brown sauce = exactly. I closed the lid on my to go order with at least two tails left. Mind you my husband tried one. He said it tasted like they cooked it in oatmeal. The beef patty was just dry. Like I don't even know if the filler meat was good on the inside because it was so dry. I took two bites, gave to my husband and he too said waste of calories not eating anymore. The jerk chicken wings and the flavor of his pork are the only reasons this review is getting 2 stars. The jerk wings tasted like one would expect decent jerk wings to taste like. His pork had an unexpected smoked flavor which was a nice surprise. However, they were dried out and definitely NOT JUCI as the business name implies. Owners if the restaurant of the meat in your platter is as flavorful as the pork do something to bring the juiciness to it and that would be a winner. You may want to rotate out your patties because coming at night rather than lunch time should not warrant me receiving a product so tough that it shouldn't be sold. This place is amazing. My bill was under $12 it was basically a half chicken rice beans and cabbage. I'm not sure what they're putting in that hot sauce but I could drink that stuff it's so amazing. The jerk chicken slapped luckily I didn't come her with the family that was a slap ya momma meal. I think the cashier was one of the owners she was extremely hospitable and you could hear she had an island accent. She said she was from Jamaica so I'm guessing this is pretty authentic.
