I've been meaning to write this review since July 4th, but have been so busy. Anywho, I want to shout the wonderful and amazing bartender who was working on the Fourth of July during the Bristol parade. I didn't get her name, but she went above and beyond during one of the busiest times of the year in Bristol. I went in just before the parade ended and asked about gluten-free options. She was knowledgable, helpful, and was able to provide gluten-free options. Even though it was busy, service was prompt and friendly. I was overly impressed by how calm the bartender and staff were due to the crowds starting to arrive. read more

Granted, we went during the Bristol stroll, but we waited over an hour for our food. Thank God I was served a drink with candied bacon in it or I may have left. They didn't even bother to apologize for the crazy wait. The burger was good and the Redneck Sangria was really good. I will likely go back just for the drink and pray my food comes out faster next time. read more

Wow! Hubby and I stopped in here on a whim today and had an excellent experience... First, Andrew, the waiter was top notch. He was very accommodating and he 'cared', if you know what I mean.... often times we have been to establishments and the waiter/waitress/bartender makes you feel like they are doing you a favor by serving you. Not Andrew..... great guy!!! great energy.... we felt welcomed...... Hubby got a pumpkin mule... I got a salted caramel martini and they were great.... we just got apps... he got the little neck chowder, I got the Sesame Ginger Shrimp and both were excellent.... like, really really good! I don't normally 'gush' over places, as most places have their good and their bad points, but everything was perfect here! I hope the owners of this place recognize their good staff here because they make a world of difference to their patrons experience and whether or not they will come back. Great job today! I have been to Judge Roy Bean Saloon a couple times and I want to like the place more but I'm just not that impressed. The atmosphere is really cool but the service is lacking and I wasn't blown away by the food. The first time I went for a Thursday night, it wasn't too busy and we sat down and ordered some wings with our drinks. I ordered a red neck sangria which came in a mason jar with candied bacon, which was pretty cool but the drink was only ok. Same with the wings. The second time was a much busier weekend night for just drinks with friends. The server was super slow and we had to ask a few times for refills and waters. I will try the place again, maybe for dinner next time, but for now it's just...meh... read more

Wish I could give more than 5 stars! Being only about a minute walk from my apartment the JR Vean has become my favorite place since moving to town last fall. The atmosphrere is rustic and cozy with some modern touches and still fits wonderfully into a seaside town. The staff is amazing and one of the big reasons i love this place But now to the obvious, the food and drink. The dirty pickle martini (their pickles are the best), espresso martini and redneck sangria (comes with candied bacon :D ) are absolutely amazing The food is amazing. Anything on the menue is perfect and there is something for everybody. The JR Bean burger is probably one of the best burgers I have ever had. read more

I think I'd like this place a LOT better if we were there when some other people WERE NOT there. We happened to stroll in on a beautiful summer night when some loud folks several drinks in were really enjoying themselves. Good for them, not great for us. That being said, it can be really loud in Judge Roy Bean Saloon. The acoustics are wonderful and terrible at the same time. Nosie carries in there. It's a really neat location, an old building with lots to look at. The drinks were good and the fries were delicious! I had an ahi tuna burger which was prepared well. I am happy to say I had a really great afternoon at Judge Roy Bean Saloon. I visited on a beautiful warm RI afternoon, and they open the windows to let in the water breeze. It is a saloon atmosphere with dark wood paneling, but with the high ceilings and open windows it feels so airy. It seems service is hit or miss, after reading reviews from other Yelpers. I had a great experience. My waitress was friendly and helpful. I ordered a mule from their drink menu and I have to say it was truly fantastic. Blueberry and pomegranate I think. It was so refreshing and not too strong. My short rib sandwich was a little fatty and not my favorite, but the sweet potato fries were cooked nice as crispy as I requested. Next time I will definitely try an appetizer though, and the burger selection looked delicious. read more

The ambience and seating was perfect for a small group (2-4 people). A great place for a quick bite and a few drinks. Sweet potato fries are delicious the best I have had and I have had a lot!! Short rib cheesy tots were tasty a bit heavy for an appetizer but good to share. For dinner, I had the Fried Chicken BLT waffle sandwich. Wonderful place with a nice atmosphere. I've only been here a few times, but each experience has been great! The waitstaff is always wonderful and friendly. The menu is a modest size, but always seems to include a couple plates that would satisfy most picky eaters, while the rest of their offerings are unique (which makes you want to come back time and time again). During my last visit I had the sweet potato waffle fried chicken sandwich and it did not disappoint! The drinks are delicious and the prices are decent. I would most certainly recommend stopping by Judge Roy Bean if you are in the area!! read more

Chef Randy Ross is gone and this business has gone down hill. It's been about 5 years since it opened. There is no longer a half price wing night. The cheese curds went from $8 to $12. They never had great beer drafts, but the bartenders where experienced. I stopped in for a beer while I was waiting for Christian's around the corner to open. The bartender and server were very young and NO SERVICE! No hello, goodbye, thanks. Never again. Portside is where I'll order a beer while I wait for Christian's to open. This was my second time at this bar but my first experience was WAY better than the second. We had ventured here after dinner for some post dinner drinks and the service was terrible. I'm not sure if this was just an off night in Bristol since our dinner service was terrible as well. I had gone up to the bar to get a glass of water and stood there for five minutes next to the manger without an acknowledgement until my fiancé came over to see what was taking so long after which he was acknowledged instantly. I have never been to an establishment where this kind of sexist attitude is witnessed first hand and I have been to bars all over the country & world. I will not be back to this place ever again! Terrible service - both kitchen and wait staff! Seated, ordered, several other tables filled with people after us, ordered there food after us and were served BEFORE us! Huh? 45 minute wait for a Beet Salad and Cod entre WTF? Waitress never said a word as to why the 45 plus minute wait - asked for a lemon wedge with my fish, had to wait another 10 minutes for that! A Must visit place in Bristol !!! We just got home from a night out, we decided to stop in at the newly re-opened Judge Roy Bean. Randy & Zach who own the place took great pride in revamping the premises. Beautiful mahogany walls with thick coats of varnish have restored this East Bay diamond into beautiful bar/ saloon. The food is great, Randy is a talented chef who serves nothing but the best. If you are in Bristol and are looking for a nice place out on the town, then you should consider stopping in at Judge Roy Bean. Great food, Sports on the TV and an upstairs disco with a DJ. Had lunch here with my husband this past Sunday. Pros: Nice "Saloon" atmosphere down by the water, server was very nice and attentive. Place was clean. We enjoyed looking up the history of Judge Roy Bean when were were waiting for our food. Cons: The food *looked* wonderful when it came to the table. I ordered the fish tacos and my husband ordered the reuben sandwich. He ordered something else first, but was told they didn't have it, so ordered the reuben instead. I usually order fish tacos whenever I go out because I love them so much, and my husband loves reubens. Both of these items seem pretty simple and straight forward - hard to screw up. These were by far the worst fish tacos I have ever had. The fish was old tasting, very old tasting. It looked old when you cut into it with a fork and smelled old. The reuben sandwich appeared delicious, but was destroyed by the fact that the thinly sliced corned beef of a classic reuben had been replaced by thick slabs of chunky fat and gristle that seemed like an attempt to make in-house meat for a gourmet sandwich gone wrong. There was hardly any real meat in the sandwich. We don't send food back to the kitchens when we go out to eat because we like to go out and have fun - we trust the cooks in the kitchen. However, we really wished we had sent both dishes back and then left to go somewhere else - absolutely nowhere near the quality of the $40.00 we ended up spending on JUST the food, we didn't even order any drinks. This place seems to be really big on burgers, so maybe it would be best to stick with those. read more

I can't not say enough good things about this restaurant. Katie, one of the managers helped us plan our wedding after party. She was amazing. We had the second floor room with about 40 of our closest friends and family. Everything we had planned and asked for went off without any issues. Bartenders were amazing and very attentive. The food came out as planned and was a big hit. I can't believe how many people raved about how good everything was. We watched the Kentucky Derby and was able to hook my iPhone up and play my after party playlist. I highly recommend. Ive been here a few times and I can say that the food is really good. Its not the typical over sauced over cooked pub grub its got a few more refinements then that. For starters they do a Clam chowder that has to be eaten to really enjoy. But its whole clams and I believe its cooked to order and its great. The menu rotates and the chef is clearly working to keep it fresh and surprising. Some of the staples are wonderful the steal tips and chicken dinner. The burgers are dressed up with great touches if your adventurous. The service is great although I am always at the bar and I think I sat at a table once but...go there relax enjoy!! read more

In terms of bars in Bristol,RI, the new owners of the Judge Roy Bean have done an amazing job! Hands down best atmosphere of any bar in town. The food, pub food, is amazing. Other bars have the traditional frozen mozzarella sticks but the Bean takes bar food to a new level! Great appetizers with drinks that you can't find anywhere else in town! FYI, order a redneck sangria, booze and bacon, enough said. If you are into eating microwaves nachos and PBR's, stay home or in your dorm room... We visit Bristol often by boat and usually stop in for a pint. Our last visit was on the 4th of July. My wife, Sandra and I popped in for a Bloody Mary and with besties Pete and Rhonda and were surprised to find a delicious breakfast menu. Not sure if they opened for breakfast because of the parade, but my Huevos Tortilla was out of this world. We've been here three times so far, each time mid-afternoon in the fall/winter...no problem with crowding or service, as there have been very few other people. Each time our waitress was cheerful and efficient. Beer selection is excellent, food is pub food with a little change-up...I had the pork belly reuben the first time, while my husband had the Carpetbagger burger - has clams on it, other stuff, can't remember, but the effect was all sort of mixed without a standout flavor. The reuben was very nice. Fries were requested extra-crispy, came well done but not terribly crunchy. Next time, I had the short rib sliders, and fell in love. These three little sliders came with big chunks of pot-roast-like beef, boursin cheese, onions, and pickles on the side. I just loved them. Husband had fish tacos, also very good, better than the burger or the reuben. Third time, I got the sliders with a side of horseradish which lifted them up into a new realm. Unfortunately the beef was a little more dry than the first time - but I got more boursin cheese, which was also a help to the sandwiches. Husband had reuben - kinda soggy. Each time we ask for extra-crispy fries, and each time they are nicely cooked but without being crunchy. Oh, for a crispy fry! Still, a friend of mine hates it when they 'shatter' as he says, so there's fries for every taste I guess. I'd have rated JRB Saloon higher on the strength of the short-rib sliders, but the other items we've had haven't been as appealing. Still, we've been happy with service, happy with food, and will go back. read more

windows were open giving everyone a great view and fresh air. we walked in, sat down immediately and was greeted by a waitress who took a drink order immediately. after the drink order she had returned in minutes with a margarita and a Sam Adams. she immediately took our food order. we ordered an app, short rib tater tots, then for meals we ordered one fried chicken sandwich and one ahi tuna taco meal. it had taken a while for the food to arrive and we had not had the waitress come back and ask us about more drink. it has been 35 minutes with no food or refresh of drinks. we left quitos because of no service from any staff member, now we are here in Judge Roy Bean which sits across the street and we just wait.maybe due to where this town is located on the water and people will always be in the area during this season of spring, the restaurants do not care about good personal service for customers. we received food after 40 minutes. hoping it will be worth the wait. my wife loved the app. when food arrived we asked for ice water and club soda as well as a side of mayo. it has been 5 minutes and nothing has been brought to us. hard to eat with no fluid to wash it down. waitress has arrived apologized the system went down. the ahi was bland and over cooked. the chicken as you can see in pictures was thin sliced and was to thin and to crunchy. not what i would consider a good chicken sandwich. not a bad spot but def room to improve. read more

One of my favorite bars in Bristol . First they make the best drinks. You definitely have to try the red neck sangria which comes with a strip of bacon in it . The food is great . This is just your typical town-y bar, however, the food is not your typical bar food. The food is very good, but the service could use some work. I was sitting at the bar and I think the bar tender's name was Erin, but she was complaining about how much she hated working there. I overheard her talking to a fellow colleague which is just unprofessional in my opinion. We all don't like working, but we have to do it. It's life. She also kept rolling her eyes at patrons and making rude comments. Because of that, I don't think I will be coming in any time soon. Or if I do decide to visit again, I will make sure to come when she isn't there. It's shame because the atmosphere is really cool, but to have an employee thats disrespectful, outweighs the good. read more

Came here on a friday night for dinner with 3 other couples..the place was jammed but we got a table quick. After we got our drinks and ordered our food it took about a hour for wings and oyster apps. It took about another 30 minutes to receive our entrees, just for a bunch of sandwiches. Everyones meal was just ok but i got the pork belly rueben which was the grosses sandwich i ever had. Very soggy and greasy bread with what i couldnt describe what was inside. Ive had pork belly before and this wAs not. The place was so loud i couldnt hear the person across from me. Somethings just dont change. Gave 1 star cuz I had to. I have been wanting to try this place for along time and finally did tonight, but was not impressed. The inside is very warm and inviting but the service and food were lack luster. We waited 20 minutes for a beer and mixed drink. We could see them sitting on the bar but the waitress forgot to bring them to us. We had ordered the shrimp appetizer and 2 sandwiches which had about a 35 minute ticket time and the appetizer came out with our meal. The food was cold and had zero seasoning.
