This açaí bowl really did live up to the hype!!! Even at noon on a busy beach Saturday it only took about 20 minutes (which they told us when we ordered) and it worth every minute and penny! The bowls are large and filled to the brim with fresh fruit. Would definitely recommend the homemade almond butter too. 10/10 and I can't wait to go back!!

These bowls are just as good as they look! Packed with so much fresh fruit on top, delicious granola, and refreshing açaí, this is the best açaí bowl I've ever had. Tip, add the almond butter (made in-house), it's incredible!

There was a line when we arrived, but it moved fairly quick. We placed our order at the register, as the worker was super sweet & made small talk with us as it was our first time here. We came on a Sunday morning so our two bowls were a 30-40 minute wait, however if you are not there to pick it up, they kindly put it in the freezer for you for when you come back. * Pitay-Dye Bowl - 9.5/10 (the acai base had the perfect texture of creaminess, & the sweetness of berry was perfect. the pitaya base was strong of dragonfruit flavor & not icy at all. the honey granola was very crunchy, with a good ratio of it to the base. i like how they finely chop the strawberries & bananas, & pack it on top of the bowl. they definitely do not skimp here. one of the best acai i have ever had! ~tine) * The Wave Bowl - 9.2/10 (all three sorbets were super flavorful. each were all light & refreshing without being too sweet. i liked the blue spirulina sorbet the most. i personally can't describe the taste, but it was delicious enough to make my toes curl. the bowl had a generous amount of strawberries, banana, & granola. the honey also added a nice external sweetness to the bowl. the bowl overall was super refreshing & addicting. i could eat the bowl full of just the blue spirulina base! ~jerm)

Being in San Diego, I wanted to try the most highly reputable açai bowl in the city. After all the research that I did, juice wave was the place I landed on. And it definitely lived up to the hype. This was the perfect balanced bowl with açai, granola, fruit, PB, and of course, love! Got to meet the owner of the store while ordering and she was the sweetest lady ever. She told us that she started in a food truck and has now moved to a storefront, which is awesome to hear her journey. There is a line out the door, but yet each bowl was carefully curated and walked out by the owner to each customer which I thought was a very special touch. The vibes were good and it was nice to sit outside and enjoy the bowl right outside the store.

Fantastic! I was jogging along Crown Point Park and saw a few people walking with acai bowls and immediately started craving it. I then looked up nearby acai bowls and was so happy i found the exact place i was hoping for! Chef Arleigh is really kind and i love the shack vibes of the smoothie shop. The strawberries on the bowl were pleasantly refreshing & not too sweet, just the way i like it. I love the crunch on the housemade granola as well. And lastly, the old bay in the immunity drink is just the kick i needed. Cant wait to bring friends here after a run.

Came back again (this spot never disappoints) and tried the wave bowl for the first time. I ordered it upside down and I actually loved this version--having all the toppings layered on top makes every bite balanced and flavorful. We added peanut butter. The bowl was fresh, delicious, and definitely big enough to share. Another solid visit! Be prepared for long waits but it's best to order and walk by the bay till your order is ready.

Juice Wave has been in my bookmarks because of their massive acai bowls. I finally had the chance to stop by in the morning to grab one and enjoy at the beaches nearby. I parked near Bahia Resort but there are several parking lots near Juice Wave. Look up SDSU Recreation Parking...I'm pretty sure it's free but please double check! You can also find parking around the streets but you'll be competing against others going to the beach. On a Sunday morning, the wait was about 20 minutes for a bowl. A little pricey but they really do stack the bowls with fruit! But because of all the fruit, the overall flavor is a bit more tart than other places. I wish there was a little more acai to balance out ratio but other than that, it's a pretty solid bowl.

I was minding my business walking around mission beach and saw these girls pass by with such beautiful Acai bowls that looked like they were made by the gods themselves. All sorts of colors and fruits on this beautiful hot day. I asked them were to go and I immediately went to Juice Wave (new favorite place) placed my order and walked around a bit until they were ready. While placing my order, the women working inside were SUCH a vibe. I didn't want to leave there the ambiance was so friendly and amazing. Once I got my wave bowl I was even more impressed. The bowl tasted like no other bowl I've had this far. All amazing flavors and their granola was so fresh! 10/10 recommend this spot!!!

Waited in line for 10 minutes and we ordered at 2:20 PM on a Sunday. They mentioned we were the last bowl for acai, and they had already run out of peanut butter so we got almond butter instead. Got the pitay-dye, which is half pitaya sorbet, half acai, with granola, banana, strawberry, honey, and hemp seeds. It took about 20 minutes because they were quite busy, but the girl at the counter was super friendly. At $14.50, it's a decent portion, and the ingredients are fresh--a satisfying sweet treat. Some limited seating in the form of benches outside the storefront. Would recommend parking in the lot where the SDSU Aquatic Center is because street parking is very difficult. This shop has been in my bookmarks forever so I'm excited I got to come here!

The bowels here are very tasty and perfect for a hot San Diego day and a walk on the beach. The front of the store is very unassuming and it is definitely a take and go place as there is no indoor or outdoor seating. Also if you are not calling your order ahead then anticipate waiting 30-45 minutes to receive your order as they are ALWAYS busy. The staff is EXTREMELY friendly and does an amazing job setting a realistic expectation of your wait time which, if you have the time, is definitely worth the wait. I recommended grabbing your order and crossing the street to the boardwalk and walk along the beach... A perfect San Diego day.

This place isn't a hype. It's genuinely good. Make sure you 1) call ahead to place your order since it took over an hour to get our bowl on a Saturday afternoon and 2) add their homemade peanut butter. It elevates the bowl. We did the pitay-dye or half açaí + half dragonfruit. There were generous amounts of delicious granola, strawberry, and bananas on top. Worth the money in every way.

Man, I really want to like this spot. Feel like I keep having one off experiences. But this was a second time. I brought a friend from out of town - all she wanted was the "best acai bowl" I could find her. I said, I know a place! Not mentioning my 1st bad experience which was months ago. I had stopped in on a weekday hoping it was slower and less busy. I walked in and was asking questions about the menu and was met with quite a sense of attitude back. Ive worked in retail and with the public for decades - and do my best to not ask dumb questions. Yes, I read the menu. But sometimes you just have questions ya know? I digress. I chalked that up to a tired and overworked business owner which is understandable (I also own my own business now and understand - and I tried to empathize the humanity). So this time around I figured it would be a better experience. We went, knowing it was a busy saturday weekend. We ordered and were told it would be about an hour wait for the food. We said no problem and would walk around and be back. Damn- an hour? Good for them! Business must be good! We waited patiently and happily, respecting the art of a busy small business. We returned at the hour and they brought out our order. As they handed it to us, I saw that one was not pitaya - but a half and half. I kindly said - oh - I ordered pitaya only. Is it possible to have it fixed? No rush! They took it back in and a few minutes emerged with a pitaya bowl. We said thank you and wrestled our way out of the crowd lined up waiting. Got in our car and went on our way. Once we stopped to eat our bowls I noticed mine didnt have the blueberries or honey I had requested. Eh, oh well they were busy, no biggie. But as I started eating, I realized every bite of my granola was burned. So burned it was black. And it was throughout the whole bottom half of the bowl so even my attempt to piece it out was...fruitless (ha). So after a few more bites I gave up and just couldnt eat it. Luckily my out of towner friend didnt have burned granola and was enjoying hers (thank goodness). But man, Im super bummed. I went home afterwards starving and had a different meal and felt like I had wasted not only my money - but my TIME. A whole hour wait (patiently) and still had to toss the whole thing. I mean, you can see that the granola was super burned. How do you conciously put that in a bowl? Was it intentional because I spoke up about my bowl not being pitaya? Im not sure and im not really excited to try again. Sorry - not a fan. read more

Great service! Right as I walked in I was greeted and told it would be a 20 min wait. It wasn't a lot so I ordered right away and sat outside. The time passed quick and it was definitely worth it! It's pricey but it's big and yummy! Everything was fresh and the three scoops were bright and so pretty. The granola was really crunchy and soooooo good. Hands down absolutely the best, highest quality Açaí bowl you will find in San Diego. I highly recommend their homemade almond butter and granola and it is always generously topped with the freshest berries. Also everyone that works there has such a positive attitude and happy vibe. Great açaí bowls!! Maybe the best in San Diego. A little on the pricey side but it's a big bowl and they really pack a lot of goodness into them, so well worth it! I recommend going early, especially on a weekend as they get very busy. read more

Disappointing Experience - Twice! I was really looking forward to trying this place after finding it online, but my experience has been nothing but frustrating. Yesterday, I arrived two hours before closing only to find a sign out front saying they were so backed up with orders that they had to close early. I figured it was just a busy day, so I gave it another shot today. Unfortunately, it was even worse. I showed up three hours before they were supposed to close, only to find out that they were out of more than half their menu items. On top of that, they said there was about a one-hour wait for anything they did have. It's really disappointing to plan my day around giving this place a try, only to be let down twice. I get that places get busy, but if running out of items and long wait times are this common, they really need to either manage inventory better or be more transparent with their hours and availability. Definitely not worth the hype. read more

This place is a must stop every time I'm vacationing in SD. The açaí bowls are the best I've ever had, even better than one I had in Hawaii! My daughter had a cold so I asked the owner if she could split a bowl into 2, and she said they do half bowls. I'm so glad I learned this is an option because one bowl is too much for one person and the half bowl was easier to eat since it wasn't so full. The smell inside coming from the granola roasting will instantly make your mouth water. Highly recommend Juice Wave! read more

Juice Wave changed my opinion on açaí bowls, but I think it also ruined my standards because it was so good. First off, the lady working at the stand was so friendly and welcoming. She answered all of my questions patiently and recommended her favorites. In terms of the smoothie bowls, they were DELICIOUS. The açaí bowl was super fresh and the mountain of strawberries were greatly appreciated. The pitay-dye was a coconut-y, tropical delight. Super fresh as well, and I liked the concept of the sorbet melting on top of the toppings. I got the house made almond butter on both bowls, and it was the perfect way to top them off. Small little shop that can be easily missed so keep your eye out! I had the Cali Chrome smoothie. So glad I splurged on the 16 oz because it was so good, flavorful and filling without being too sweet. It tasted whole rather than artificial like other smoothie shops. Came here 2x already on our trip to SD. So glad we found it. Was searching for the best açaí bowl and I'm gonna be hard pressed to find something as good. We were so, so excited to try this place! It looked SO good on social media. We drove all the way from LA to try this place to only be turned down. We waited in line for our turn to order our acai bowl, and the cashier was chatting with the customer ahead of us for an exceptionally long time. When the cashier finally gave us her attention, the first thing she said to us was, " it is going to be a 20-25 minute wait". She didn't greet us like she did any other customer, she didn't smile or anything. It really turned me off and made me really sad to think that my family and I drove all this way to just be treated rudely and with disrespect. Amazing açaí bowl! I came here a few weeks ago and am still thinking about it!! All the ingredients are so fresh and taste amazing!! The açaí bowl is priced like a full meal at more than $10 but the portion is so large and filling. There isn't much in terms of seating but you can get your bowl to go or sit on a bench outside. This was the best acai bowl I've ever had and it made my entire day. The granola was freshly baked, the fruit was SO fresh and delicious, and I added almond butter that they make in house. It so was amazing I think about it often lol, 10 / 10 would recommend. It took us like ~20 minutes to get it because the granola was in the oven when we got there, but they let us know how long it would take and made sure we were ok with the wait before we ordered which was nice, and who isn't going to wait 20 min for fresh baked granola (it also made the whole place smell amazing so and it was a sunny day so not a bad wait) :) read more

I loved this place. Arleigh is amazing! I went in...and she had a BUSY weekend and didn't have the juices I wanted. And so she was going to be juicing again on Wed...and so I waited for them and she was willing to deliver...which was above and beyond. She didn't have to deliver but just the fact that she was willing to deliver to my hotel or Airbnb...was so amazing! The juices are great...I got 4 total, a beet, a carrot and two green...and they are amazing..nice to be able to keep my routine when away from home. Small place and hard to find parking on the street...but well worth it, if you can get in. Highly recommend! read more

TLDR: stopped by here really quick for some açaí bowls, and they were ok! Their menu is very small but my partner and i got two açaí bowls. They had a ton of sweet strawberries and bananas, with really good coconut granola. A bit of the granola was over baked and a few of the bits were burnt, but it wasn't super upsetting. The açaí base itself was really thick too! I appreciate it since it prolonged it's life for me, a slow eater. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Arleigh R.

Arleigh has been working in the food industry for over 20 years. After graduating from Colorado State University, she packed up and moved to San Diego for the grand opening of Snooze, an A.M. Eatery in Hillcrest. After two years, Chef Arleigh attended the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vermont. She then worked with James Beard Award Winning Chef, Michael Tusk at his three Michelin-Star Restaurant, Quince, as well as training to be the butcher for his sister restaurant, Cotogna. Attending every farmer's market in the Bay Area to pick up the fresh and local produce for both restaurants was one of her most cherished responsibilities. WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities for Organic Farms) was the best option for her to get her hands in the dirt. Farmer Leo's at Cardiff-by-the-Sea in Encinitas was the farm where she has cultivated her culinary skills and has become most passionate about utilizing ingredients from local farms and incorporating sustainable methods.
