Gluten Intolerant Review Arrived at just under 6pm on a Friday night and we were seated right away. Within 20 minutes, however, the place was packed....got there just in the nick of time! It is decorated cute and charming and definitely has a homey Italian feel. It was a tad warm, I had to fan myself with the menu for a while to get acclimated to the temperature. I asked if there was a separate Gluten Free Menu (life is so easy when there is!) but the gal who seated us replied with, "Our options are Pizza and pasta." Good enough, I'll find something. The waitress, a tad on the slower side, was friendly and answered questions about the GF options without seeming annoyed. One question was about the "Spaghetti, Meatball and Marinara" option that is listed directly under the GLUTEN FREE mention, section (see pic below). Dont be tricked! The meatballs nor the various pastas accompanying it, are GF It's just odd (misleading)placement! I learned they can make Chicken Piccata, Marsala and a few other "Saute's" GF (no batter), they have GF pizza crust, and they only have GF Penne pasta. My husband and son ordered Calamari to start.....booo!!!! I dont get to eat it anymore and it used to be my favorite appetizer... Oh well. The order was on the smaller side, and only enough for a 2 person small snack. They said it tasted "good" but weren't exceptionally excited. Next up were the salads and garlic bread (which is included as a part of my dish too, but there was no GF bread offered). The waitress was hesitant to say a definite YES that the Blue Cheese Dressing was GF, so I opted for Italian Dressing. Im glad I did because it made for a good salad. It appeared to be small, but it was plenty and very satisfying, and the 3 bean side sample was enjoyable. For dinner, my husband had the spaghetti and Meatballs, my son had Cacciatore, and I chose the A La Artichoke with the GF Penne pasta. For me, it took several pepper grinds, pepper flake and parmesan cheese shakes to get some flavor. I was happy about the vegetables, but overall the dish was underwhelming. In my opinion, the GF life doesnt have to be bland and unsatisfying, but Im finding that in many restaurants, it is. I feel like we are the forgotten ones. Husband and son both rated their dishes 5/10, and I rated mine a 4/10. It was edible but nothing to write home about. Got the eggplant parm and had the salad with the house-made blue cheese dressing...Heads up the blue cheese is very strong tasting...I really liked the eggplant as it was prepared and cooked perfectly....It really melted in my mouth...For some reason the spaghetti was kind of just , meh....The sauce, to me, seemed to be pretty plain overall...Imo, it could have used more spices/herbs/garlic..The meatball had a good soft texture and was tasty...The bread they give you comes out warm and I thought it was good.I really liked the atmosphere with the lights and the fish tank....Waitress was friendly and good at her job. We have lived within 10 miles of Julian's Little Italy, never heard of it till I saw a ad on Facebook, looked up reviews, very mixed, Almost missed the opportunity to try it, because who wants to pay for a bad meal, reviews mentioned it was in a dark strip mall, Let's Give It a Try, it's in a strip mall with plenty of parking, very well lit up, we didn't have a wait, but we got the last available table, others after us had a short wait, greeted at door, seated immediately, no wait on drinks, ordered a large Greek Salad, enough for 4, 3- bean salad served with salad was Excellent, Garlic Bread for table, we ordered Cacciatore/ added Italian Sausage, superb! Well, it is time for an updated review of a great little Italian restaurant in Dunedin. This place has never missed the target with quality and quantity of the food! They have great servers and are just very consistent! I tried the lasagna for the first time... outstanding made with sausage. Always forget about this little gem in Dundien! Went on a Saturday it was busy, but not crowded. We had the mozzarella triangles for an appetizer, which was more than enough for the three of us. Granddaughter had the lasagna and "was a very skibidi rizzy meal" in her words. Hubby had the meat pizza and said it was the best around; he's had pizza around the world, from NYC to Italy! I had the the Balbimo, it was really good. We shared the pasta fagioli, and the Julian's salad, both solid. But the winner was the Chocolate cake! Oh MY...!!! The best ever! But be sure to take a bite of cake with the whipped cream. Family owned, love the non chained places. Won Tampa Bay best restaurants every year excluding 2023 since 2017 and I can see why. Julian's is a quaint local Italian place with a decent menu and tasty food. This isn't fancy - more NY old school - so if you want Italian dishes with fancy names and an elaborate wine list this isn't for you. The sausage cacciatore appetizer was flavorful with colored bell peppers, onions and tasty sausage. The eggplant and chicken dish was also cooked nicely with a healthy side of pasta. For desert we went with the house made Tiramisu. The house Chianti was decent as well. The staff makes this feel like a neighborhood joint, from the host who greets everyone coming and going, to Sarah my waitress who was attentive and offered suggestions. Been here several times and it's been ok, maybe 3 star, my SO likes the spaghetti w/mb. This time I had the ala vodka with chicken. Nothing creamy, silky or smooth about the ala vodka sauce. It was an oily mess with dry tasteless chicken sitting in a broken pool of oil. It's like they forgot the cream, basil, prosciutto and oregano. Service was disinterested. My wine glass sat empty for half our stay with no offer to refill until I stopped our server to request another. Both water glasses sat empty as well. Ok I really tried this time. We had not ordered from Julian's in years due to poor service. On Valentine's Day we decided to give them a shot. I placed an order for 2 chicken Parmigiana with salad & house dressing. They said it would be an hour. We figured it was a busy night so ok. When my husband arrived to pick it up, it was not ready. He waited 30 minutes longer to receive our order. The bread was hard as a rock & cold. The salad had black hair in it. The chicken was burnt & the noodles were so overcooked it was like mush. I tried calling but they were super busy which I understood. They said come back to get it remade but it was already after 9pm. I tried to be considerate & sent the owner pics to his email. He did reply & offered to remake it. I thanked him & agreed. He did offer a refund but then said he could not issue that refund due to them already closing out the machine. He offered to remake the order & include dessert to makeup for the mess. I said ok. He sent me a gift card for $40. I've had that card over 3 months but kept getting cold feet when I went to use it. I just couldn't shake our last few experiences here & this last one was disgusting. Well, I finally decided to give them another shot. I did not want to try the chicken again since it's not consistent. My husband also decided against the chicken. I heard him call the order in. He specifically said "meatball parmigiana sub ziti instead of spaghetti & can we have extra sauce on the pasta? This girl had us repeat the order multiple times. It was STILL WRONG!!! So the remake is also a flop!! So I decided to post my experience because it's obviously not going to get better. Oh yeah, the desserts were not included either. Tonight we ordered lasagna & meatball parmigiana.... The lasagna was swimming in sauce but the meatball parmigiana had very little sauce & was a box full of spaghetti noodles! The noodles we asked her at least 3 times to sub for penne! Seriously... I'm not sure where they do their hiring from but they might need to choose another option. This place used to be so amazing. The owner does respond to complaints but it's an empty response if the staff are just not competent to even take a simple order, he's going to hit a wall every time. I'm sorry, it pains me to say this but... I'll watch for the next replacement for Julian's. They do have a following during season but I'm not sure how they'll stay open with the staff giving zero cares to quality & service. The owner cannot run the place on his own. On Valentine's Day he said he was short staffed & multiple people did not show up. Ok it's may 31st... 3 and a half months later & they still can't get it right!? I tried. I really wanted to resolve the issue but sadly I can't even consider them any longer. I must say my husband has asked about going back to Julian's almost every week since then. I couldn't get rid of the image from the last order to not be grossed out enough to order again. I thought trying a new dish would help. Unfortunately they couldn't even get that right. It's been quite a while since we last been at Julian's Little Italy. When my wife pointed out to the server that their chicken Marsala had next to nothing to do with an actual Marsala dish, the server was not having any of it, even though my wife is a Marsala connoisseur and knows what she's talking about. Their loss. At a minimum, I would have expected the server to either check with the chef/cook, or the chef/cook to come to the table to address this, especially given the low amount of customers at the time, so that such activity would not have jeopardized other service. read more

To be fair, the food was really good and we were looking forward to a nice date night. But our experience nearly ended with a trip to the ER. They sat us in a booth where the ceiling caved in due to the weight of containers they used to collect a water leak from above. All of these heavy containers plus the debris crashed down inches from my wife's head, soaking her dress and everything on our table. In my opinion, they were negligent sitting customers near a potential health hazard! They frightened my wife and date night was ruined. Today we stopped in with a group of friends for lunch. My wife and I had been there once before a couple of years ago and were not impressed. Today we were very pleasantly surprised. The lunch menu has all of the standard Italian favorites. Our group had three parmesan meals (one veal, one chicken, and one eggplant) all were excellent, We also ordered one lasagna and one soup and salad. Our entrees automatically came with a three ben salad and a house salad. We were also served a large basket of warm bread which was delicious. The salad dressings came on the side, family style. The entrees came out about 5 minutes after the salads, piping hot with nice lunchtime portions. The 3 parmesan entrees came with a half plate of pasta topped with marinara. The sauce was slightly sweet which is the way I like it. The meat and eggplant were hand sized pounded thin and breaded with a savory crumb and cheese breading and topped with a thin slice of mozzarella or provolone. The chicken was fork tender and it disappeared from my plate quickly. I used the warm bread to sop up the extra sauce, literally cleaning my plate. I am happy to have another option for an Italian lunch and dinner in my neighborhood. read more

Julian's is a hidden treasure in Dunedin. It's tucked into a corner of a strip center, but it is well worth searching out. The food is absolutely fabulous and I feel so welcomed.
