Corned Beef Hash Breakfast Plate. Eggs over easy. Cantonese style Fried Rice.
    Eric R.

"Ambition is a dream with a V8 engine." - Elvis Back on the rock for work and woke up 1st of November jonesing for local-style breakfast (iykyk). K & K Kitchen on North School St. in the heart of Kalihi popped on my search at 7:00am. TBH I'm not sure if I been here before, well at least at K & K, because I've definitely been in this Google Map ping: been to Mexico Restaurant and been to Helena's. Oh, I even purchased a used car from the old Pake man in the lime green house.. with roosters all ovah from Kuya's yellow house next door. Déjà vu all over again lol. Parking easy peasy at 7am, but I can imagine all da Hammajang parking after roosters crow. All good just look for the bright blue building! 7am ain't early in Kalihi as I'm third in line just beating out the Construction Bruddahs in lifted To-yoda. I was about to order when auntie at the counter picked up the phone before me and of course it was an order of twelve tutu breakfast plates. Luckily she yelled my order to cook before submitting phone orders or I'd still be waiting lol. So, no need ack. Anyways, I ordered Eggs over easy, corned beef hash, upgraded fried rice. Breakfast plates average in the $10-$12 range, however with my upgrade of fried rice it was north of $13. All orders are made to order, so guarans you'll be waiting on the side. After a few minutes in the Kalihi morning sun my order is ready. Heavy! K & K is take-out, so after a short drive I enjoyed the massive corned beef hash, crisp on the edges and succulent inside. The fried rice was Cantonese style, so yesterday's Char Siu for flavor and tasty. Worth the $2 upgrade! In the end, K & K Kitchen in Kalihi was definitely a good choice for a hearty local-style breakfast you won't find at the mall. Don't expect fancy or the word "culinary" here... but if craving a simple breakfast that's delicious and will feed you til tomorrow this is the spot for you! Lastly, make sure to season your plates before leaving! K-bye! Pls follow my IG adventures: @eric_travel_guru

If you're a rice eater the Deluxe Breakfast is for you. Bottom of the takeout tray Is loaded with white rice. It's topped with two eggs, two slices of spam, two thick slices of Portuguese Sausage and two slices of bacon. I ordered my eggs scrambled. The eggs were over done. You place your order at the takeout window fronting the building. Service was ok. The building itself is old and parking is a hassle. It was a good thing that my wife was with me. She stood in line as I waited in the car. Overall good price point. Enjoy

This is a busy place and parking is a little tough. However, the plates are packed and definitely worth waiting for. My husband wanted to try the garlic chicken and the plate was heavy! The chicken pieces were boneless and huge! They also didn't skimp on the rice which is a good thing. I didn't want rice but my plate was still really big! I had two pieces of hamburger steak, scrambled eggs and gravy. The portion was definitely enough to fill me up, and I had extra for later. I'll definitely be back to try the other plate lunches when I'm in the area.

K&K kitchen is on school street in the old Mitsu-Ken spot, this guys plates are massive and worth the price! We got so much food for $70! Tried the garlic chicken plate with fried rice, steamed pork hash and fried! And the fried chicken with fried rice because they ran out of noodles by 11am! anyways good food and super affordable prices and the service is fast and friendly. And you can order ahead on the website so by the time you get there it's ready to go!

Everything was very good! We ate outside. The chicken katsu was fresh and crispy. Very happy we went here.

Ended up at this place by accident but it was a great eat and affordable. I got the deluxe C combo and it's more than enough for one person could even share with two! I got fried rice instead of regular white rice. The fried rice has sausages in it so extra meat also almost like a garlic fried rice taste too. I would come back next time for a quick breakfast.

Early birdies gets the eats... No it's not a special but a special place with awesome prices and cooked to order breakfast. K & K has been on my radar with Nadine C, Paul C and Fran C and though it has one of the best early morning hours to grab your breakfast it is on busy N School Street with little to no parking. Since it was Saturday I tried to get there as early as possible though there's no traffic there's always someone there waiting for their order so I just parked next door for quick dash. Looking over their breakfast plates ranges $7.50 to $9.00 but it was the mini that I was interested in at $4.25 it wasn't even a question, simple and easy regular white rice, Portuguese sausage and scrambled...I'm very basic when it comes to breakfast but what a deal! Service is friendly and very fast as this tiny nook serves sit all including other savory items like chicken and pork chops but don't let the vibe here deter you as it's a great deal to fill you up with costing extra. Thank you!

    #H Vienna Sausage & Eggs w/Fried Rice
    Robert K.

The Food Is Down-Right Comfort! I got 2 breakfast plates. #G Corn Beef Hash & #H the Vienna Sausage. Both over easy eggs and both with Fried Rice. The fried rice had delicious cuts of Lop Cheong sausage & Char Sui Pork... It's a walk-up window place. No dine-in. I'd come back to this place again for some hardy breakfast and take it to the end of lagoon drive and watch the planes go by. Our order took about 10 minutes to prepare. Call ahead if you don't wanna wait.

I heard from a state employee that food truck comes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Tiime is 11:00 am. Location is in front of state parking structure across from Hawaii Educational Federal Credit Union (233 S Vineyard St). Truck has name of food truck. Menu is a big selection. Employees could be son and mom who speak Cantonese. My coworkers and I got there 5 minutes before 11:00 am. There were other people who work at state building came in line. Everyone was happy that there was another business to buy food from. Our order was pasteles stew, garlic chicken, and Lau lau. Pasteles stew regular plate has 1 scoop Mac salad and 2 scoops rice but mini had 1 scoop rice. Pasteles stew and Mac salad good. I look forward to trying them again next week.

After getting my blood drawn this morning my husband said saw this place on yelp and if you like go we try um. So we went for take out breakfast. I had the corn beef hash breakfast and my husband had their deluxe breakfast. Came home and my eggs wasnt over easy it was over hard. The corn beef hash was lacking something my husband said salt taste. I agree. I switch it up to fried rice instead of reg rice and it was Chinese style fried rice. The corn beef hash was big covers almost the whole plate. Lol. My husband deluxe breakfast was 2 bacon, 2 spam, 2 Portuguese sausage with scrambled egg. He said was good. Maybe I've should have ordered that or stick to my mini breakfast. They do make it fresh so when you place the order you have to wait. The breakfast is cheap in prices and they give alot. They located in the place where the old mitsu Ken okazu was located on school Street. Support them if you want a big breakfast.

    Garlic Chicken (all rice)

I don't aggressively cross off my bookmarks but I've kept K&K Kitchen (KK) in the back burner for YEARS. KK took over the spot of the popular, original location of Mitsuken Bento and Catering that moved in 2013. I've always been a fan of garlic chicken and usually get my fix from Mitsuken and Sugoi. Step in chicken fanatic Fran C. who would post and boast about KK's garlic chicken plate. With such challenging parking, I've waited over 10 years to finally try KK back in April 2024. I live about a 5min drive from KK and have passed here hundreds of times and would survey the parking, but found myself giving up. I was running errands and feeling pretty down as I had another tax year of writing checks to Uncle Sam. It was past 130pm and still didn't eat lunch yet and found myself on N School Street. As I approached, I noticed KK's door still open and only one car in the adjacent parking. I pulled in and finally, was going to see what Fran has been raving over. I walked to the counter and heard Cantonese being spoken between the counter staff and the kitchen crew. I didn't need to study the menu as I just came to try the garlic chicken. I ordered a regular plate with all rice and after paying, I stood on the side waiting for my food with free entertainment of a few feral chickens nearby and witnessed an elderly Asian woman struggle with parallel parking of multiple attempts while her elderly husband (?) trying to guide her. When the girl blurted "garlic chicken all rice", I made my way back to the counter to get my food where I asked for a pair of chopsticks instead of a fork. I hopped back into my car and headed back home. THE VERDICT: I was impressed on the garlic chicken plate. As I removed the cover, the chicken was piping hot, the way I enjoy my food. Strategically took a bite trying not to burn my mouth and the chicken was super moist, juicy and packed with flavor. I noticed some sauce that accumulated on the bottom so I dipped the chicken and I was in heaven. The rice was your standard plate lunch rice that paired well with the flavorful chicken. With comparison to their competitors, KK's garlic chicken is superior because it wasn't overcooked nor did the chicken have excess chicken skin. You were served good quality chicken meat. Service was average as the staff just got the job done. She was engaged in conversing with the kitchen staff in Chinese. I noticed that KK is much more sanitary and brighter than the dingy and somewhat questionable Mitsuken back in the olden days. Overall, an impressive first experience at Kk where I'd be game for a return visit. With parking the major issue, I'd probably go back in the afternoon just before they close with hopes of less foot traffic and available parking. NOTE: I ate less than half of the plate and gave the leftovers to favorite nephew by default who devoured it. He asked where the food was from as he thoroughly enjoyed it.

Cashier was nice, and fast when it came to payment and our phone order. Parking is roughly small parking lot in the side fits 2/3 calls. Food plate was huge so enough for two meals.

Stopped by K&K on a Friday morning. Service was good and the food came out quick. Very delicious! $12.50 garlic chicken plate was a healthy serving that could easily feed two people. I will definitely be coming back!

Combo G I think that's the whole can of corn beef. Fried rice and sunny side up.

They brought some sort of fried fish ball that had a pretty good spicy tartar sauce that everyone on our table was fighting over. Overall, I think the food wasn't something I would come back for, but the service was astounding - especially when someone on our table did not like the drink they ordered - our waitress offered to take it back and serve her another drink that she hopefully liked. Juicy patties, nicely seasoned, and stacked just right. Nothing super flashy, but really satisfying. Definitely a good pick if you're not in the mood for brunchy stuff. The Miss: Tried the French toast and... meh. It looked great on the plate but tasted dry and definitely didn't live up to the level of the other dishes. Might've just been an off day or a matter of personal taste, but I'd skip it next time.

The wait actually wasn't that bad, maybe 15 minutes. It is a typically diner, counter seatings only. The service wasn't great, but not rude; they take your order and they bring you the food; no pleasantries or small talks, I guess they need to turn the tables (counter seats) quickly. We had the loco moco with fried rice and hamburger steak with multi-grain rice and toss salad; they didn't offer a choice of dressing, but the default asian dressing was delicious. The food was good with very big portions; I had a hard time finishing my loco moco. They served it with lots of yummy brown gravy, the way it should be. My wife enjoyed her hamburger steak as well. Oh, don't forget to visit the bakery side after eating; they have many super yummy baked goodies!

My fiance won a gift card actually 2 of them (from his coworker whom could not get a reservation secured), we knew we had to make the trip over before they officially close. We had multiple dishes, but staff made Kauai prawns and tomato miso black cod dishes on the house since they ran out the Hokkaido scallops. We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. Sashimi moriawase, fish was so fresh, reminded me of my time spent in Hokkaido and Sapporo. Short ribs was soft and rich in flavor. Both me and my fiance liked the lukki lemon dessert, like lemon meringue pie but broken down version. If you have a chance to dine here before closing and got a reservation, definitely will have a lovely dining experience and your stomach will be full by end of the night.

The staff were friendly and very helpful with giving us recommendations. We ordered 3 appetizers and 2 entrees, and honestly it was too much food for us. We had leftovers for breakfast the next day! - For appetizers we got: Ulu Tots, Japanese Eggplant, and Corn Beignets. The Corn Beignets was the best. - For entree we got: Tomato Miso Black Cod and the Short Rib. Both were delicious and worth a try. Sad to see that this restaurant appears to be closing.
