We came at the right time because a few minutes later, the place was packed and there were people waiting for seating. The place is tiny, I wish they were a little bigger so that it would sit more people. Too bad I found out about this place after I moved further south =( We ordered a few nigri and some rolls. Eating at this restaurant felt like I was eating at my aunts house- the lovely Korean couple that own this place is so welcoming and sweet. The lady came by our table a couple times to make sure we were fine with everything- that kind of service is typically hard to come by. Two of my girlfriends and I had an order of mixed tempura, salmon, blue fin tuna, toro, yellowtail, 3 rolls: the Cerritos roll, the Scallop Lovers Roll and the Hot Night Roll. The tempura had the perfect amount of crunch to it.. My favorite from the mix was definitely the shrimp tempura. Sooo yummy! I'm normally not a big fan of raw fish but oddly I was able to eat the sushi here- possibly because the fish tasted very fresh. The two rolls were relatively similar but I found myself going for the Hot Night roll more.. But only because I love spicy tuna. The green tea ice cream was the cherry on top after our carb loaded meal ;) Parking is easy. Service is amazing. Food is delicious. I love this place. This is my go to sushi joint. I've tried other places and nothing compares to it in this area. The fish is always fresh and tasty. Rolls are delicious and server is fast and friendly. Though it is about a 15 min drive from my house I will always come here when in the mood for some fresh fish. Very small and cozy atmosphere. Came back for more, twice, in the past week and still a fan. Felt like I haven't been here in awhile so I decided to pick up some food to go. I had myself the bulgogi lunch combo which comes with rice, salad, and california rolls (and miso soup if you dine-in). The bulgogi tasted good but I couldn't get past the poor quality of the meat, which was incredibly chewy and fatty. Other than that, the salad and california rolls were delicious and the meal was incredibly filling. For my second visit, I brought along my brother. Together, we tried the chirashi bowl, albacore lover's roll, mushroom bomb appetizer, spider crab appetizer, crunch roll, and salmon steak. I highly recommend the chirashi bowl for raw fish fans--lots of variety and lots of fish! The salmon steak was definitely a win--very tender and flavorful. My brother loved the spider crab. Mushroom bomb was delicious, loved that it arrived piping hot--but just a note, the crab it is stuffed with is imitation not real. In the northernmost border of Cerritos, along the Norwalk/Cerritos line, is a tiny sushi place called the Sushi Gallery. It's the only sushi place serving northern Cerritos. I'm very pleased with the place. I dropped by today during the sushi happy hour (5 - 7:30pm) and the owners, Oki and his wife, really knew how to make the place feel homey and quaint. They threw in a few extras during the course of my meal, so that really made me appreciate this place more. I personally like smaller sushi joints as opposed to large chains because of the intimacy and the ability to get to know the chef and owners more. One soon finds out that Chef Oki is quite talkative and personable with his guests, which is something sorely lacking in most other sushi places. Oki admits that he doesn't do much advertising aside from receiving Yelp reviews, although he's thinking about leasing ads in the local paper in the near future. Most of his returning clients are people who discover the place on web sites like Yelp and through word-of-mouth. The Sushi Gallery is definitely in the same range as the Sushi Samurai in terms of ambiance (a hole-in-the-wall mom & pop type of place) and actually I think the Samurai may actually be slightly larger than the Gallery in terms of capacity (if you can believe it). The difference in small places like this is in the honesty of the owner and the higher quality of the fish. As others have mentioned, Chef Oki will make attempts to get fresh fish so long as you let him know in advance. He openly admits that Fridays are his busiest days, so regulars should make attempts to come during non-peak days to get better service. If you also have a special request during the evening, be sure to let him know at least that morning or lunch time so he can get the fish during that gap in which they are closed in the mid-afternoon. Beers and (bottles of) sake are also part of the happy hour deal, so that's always a plus. Oki doesn't drink that much, so no more than one or two drinks if you're feeling generous. This place has my highest recommendation, especially during the happy hours. read more

Happy hour prices are pretty decent (not much of a WOW factor), but it lasts until 7pm, which is pretty good because it's hard to get cheap(er) sushi for dinner, even if it is an early dinner. The sushi themselves are pretty good. Not anything that will blow your mind. Comparing it to NikoNiko sushi down the street, it's definitely smaller, but it's also got a lot rice on the rolls. Decent mom and pop kind of shop with friendly customer service and pretty wallet-friendly prices. But nothing that will blow your mind away. read more

Things have continued to go down hill every time I have decided to go back to Sushi Gallery. I went back with a couple of my friends one time with a restaurant.com coupon and one of the owners wanted to argue with me about the usage of it. She began to explain to me that it could not be used for this and this... and if I used it that the prices for certain happy hour things were no longer eligible (and it had no exclusions of the sort on the coupon itself) Fast forward a year later and I tried it again... this time coming in and ordering a chirashi bowl. I couldn't believe how small the pieces of sashimi were. Some of the pieces were scraps trying to be passed off as one of the actual sashimi pieces. Came here with my g/f, her step brother and his g/f, and it was rather enjoyable! We sat down and were served right away, and the good service didn't stop from there. I don't think there was a moment where we had empty water glasses or an empty plates on our table for more then a few minutes before the waitress came and took them. The food was about average to be honest. We tried 3 different rolls and found them all to be very good, but nothing spectacular... Granted I am sure you could get some very good baked rolls or extravagant things, but for the basics that we ordered, they were all hot and good (not great). Price was good, but that's because we went during happy hour... Breaking down everything including edamame, 4 waters and 4 full rolls, it came out to about 11 dollars a piece... We found this a nice mom-pop family shop to dine at. Have had a variety of their cut rolls and sushi preparations. The rolls are nicely rolled with appropriate ratios of rice to main ingredients. Not like the touristy fat rolls that are 70% rice with a few slivers of fish and cucumber mixed in. The rice is appropriately seasoned that displays just enough flavoring without turning into a vinegar bomb that the touristy shops concoct. The sushi we've had contains fresh tasty fish of good quality. The rice as mentioned is seasoned modestly to not overpower the fish. I do like the spicy rolls and the use of sesame oil adds a nice richness. The traditional Japanese rolls seem kinda bland after a spell. (That's traditional preparation and not a complaint. One just desires a twist on some eats :) ) Service has been attentive and we've not been wanting for water or if we wish to add more items to eat. As mentioned, you'll write down or check-off the selections desired. Prices are reasonable and whether it is "happy hour" or main, we've felt the taste to quality reasonable to pay. The shop is clean though on the smallish side. That's ok, it limits the noise level inside and each time even at full capacity one can have a normal conversation. The sushi itself is 3/3.5 stars. The cuts of fish are fresh and large, and I enjoyed all of them. We got tuna, river eel, octopus, squid (little chewy), yellowtail, some white fish...I forget what else, but they were all surprisingly good. The rolls were not so fabulous. They were small, and the cuts of fish were alarmingly thin and sparing, which was quite a surprise after eating the generous pieces of sushi. We ordered the Norwalk roll, the caterpillar roll, some spicy tuna roll, and an albacore roll. The last one was the best one. The service was terrible. We were given menus, and we had to wait forever to get someone to pick up the checklist. I literally had to wave someone down. We were brought the Norwalk roll twice. When we saw it, we got confused and said, "wait, we ordered a caterpillar roll," and the woman said, "well, you can't eat all the rolls at one time!" and walked away. After she left, we realized that she didn't understand we had received the wrong roll. I called her back over, and she said we got a Mexican roll even though it was obviously a Norwalk roll. Regardless, it was SUPPOSED to be a caterpillar roll (which sucked anyways). Towards the end of the meal, the woman says, "you sure do eat a lot!" Maybe this is just Asian for "you must like the food!" but I can see this making people not want to order anymore, which is a poor business tactic. After we were done eating, we were left alone. Literally. With like no service at all for what must have been at least twenty minutes. We tried flagging someone down to give us the check, to no avail. There are not many restaurants on the northeast end of Cerritos, but this is hidden in the corner of Norwalk and 166th. The plaza itself can use a remodeling, as it reminds me of a place where I would go in the 1980s. The restaurant is great as it has Happy Hour M-Sat from 5-7:30. The sushi chef is very friendly and welcoming. He does a good job of making sure everyone is fed quickly. For example, he will give everyone at least one order from their listing so no one is left waiting hungry. I can't stand some sushi places where one person hogs up the chefs with a gigantic order. This place is more like a 2.5 but I gave it a 3. This place is a really tiny place... reminds me of a Subway restaurant turned sushi place. haha. Parking in the lot isn't a problem. Upon entering you are greeted by a very nice person who seats you and hands you a little slip. You mark what you want and then in the tiny box below, you write anything additional you want that is not on the menu (ie. bentos and drinks) or any special requests. It's slightly awkward but it works. AVOIDat all costs: BENTO. Miso soup was so diluted all I could taste was water. No flavor at all. Salad dressing was thousand island but it had this VERY sour taste to it. Horrible. It was also diluted with water or possibly something else. Neither of these items were eaten by us. I got 2 rolls - Rainbow and Dragon. Somehow the Dragon roll had fried shrimp in it. Interesting but ok. The BF commented on how a lot of the rolls have fried shrimp in it. They tasted pretty good and was very filling. Rules: Minimum $10 credit card purchase or they charge you an extra dollar. Also, they do not have low sodium soy sauce. BOO. We went during happy hour, which is until 7:30pm. I do not advise going outside of happy hour because I feel like the rolls are not worth the price. Recently went there for happy hour and ordered an Albacore Lover's Roll. I guess I would have loved it if it didn't have bones it it!!! Two out of the first three pieces I ate had bones which made me lose my appetite. It felt really nice and homey once I entered the restaurant. The sushi chefs greeted and welcomed us with big smiles (seriously a plus!) and nicely told us to sit anywhere we would like. A nice greeting to customers is always a good impression! My family and I ordered edemame for starters. It tasted like any normal edemame, but I really liked this one because it was served warm. It felt very comforting while eating it! We also got the soft shell crab -- it was okay for my liking. I ordered the pork cutlet since I was not really in the mood for fish. It was really good! It gave the right amount of crunch as I ate it, but take note that their rice serving is really small!!! (like a half of scoop of ice cream small) I didn't mind it cus I wasn't too hungry for carbs that night, but if you come hungry don't expect a lot of rice. As I was eating my food, I noticed the paper maches and different wallpapers as their decorations. Also, there are a lot of origami pieces that were framed on the wall -- took me a little while to get -- but that is why their restaurant is named it Sushi Gallery!!! My favorite sushi joint in Cerritos! I love their happy hour! My favorite rolls are their Cerritos roll, Mexican roll, and Spicy Tuna Roll. Their Philadelphia roll is pretty good as well! Definitely one of my favorite places for rolls! However, their sushi and sashimi is ok. Just average like your other typical Korean sushi joint. Came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. The sushi here is pretty good considering there aren't many sushi joints in the area (that I know of) aside from Kabuki. We ordered the Roe Bowl (lunch price - $10.99) which had ikura (salmon roe), masago (smelt roe), uni, tamago (sweet egg omelet), and 2 raw quail eggs on a bed of rice. The ikura wasn't as fresh as I hoped it would be, but everything else in the bowl was awesome. I was pleasantly surprised to see uni(!) in the bowl as I didn't see it in a photo that another Yelper posted. Yum-o! We also ordered the mushroom bomb (mushroom tempura stuffed with spicy crab) and Sushi Combo B (comes with BSCR, crunch roll, and mexican roll). My favorite of the sushi rolls was the BSCR --tasty, wasn't overly drenched in sauce, and the scallops were a decent size. Had a sudden craving for a couple or so bites of sushi so I thought to give this place a go. There wasn't much guests other than a father & daughter, who were just about to leave. I was inspired by one of my aunt's social media posts of having uni sashimi.. from what I know, uni is sea urchin, those dark looking spiky balls, and the edible portion is when they're cut open. I asked my sister if she has ever tried it, she didn't really recommend it, according to her, it has a weird taste. Despite that forewarning, I was feeling gutsy so I got one order. Along with it was an order of toro, which by the way, had a really nice fresh look and marbling to it. After placing my order with a cup of hot water, I headed to the restroom because potty break, and the bathroom was clean, which is always a good sign! The uni came first, & it wasn't as bad as how my sister described it. It's definitely different from actual fish as far as texture, but the flavor was there! Toro was delicious & fresh as it looked, and they didn't skimp either, it was cut generously. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll stop by to try other items. read more

This is a small sushi joint in Cerritos. I'm not exactly sure when it first opened up but I am 28 and I remember going here in high school. So it's safe to say the establishment has been here for some time... If you are looking for super fancy rolls with weird names don't go here... you won't find what you are looking for. If you are looking for simple sushi with a homemade feel you hit the jackpot! I love their salmon nigiri! Delicious!!! Also, I love asking the chef what their specials are.
