They were nice and cheesy, although dripping in oil. - Korean seasoned chicken: I would definitely pass on this. So I'm not sure what happened here but I used to LOVE this spot. Somehow in the last few years the quality and quantity of food has gone down but the prices have gone up. The beef bulgogi fries I think are the highlight of KTowne-88! The fries themselves are crisp yet fluffy and it is absolutely LOADED with cheese, sauce, and beef bulgogi. It can be easily shared between 2 people. I was also a big fan of their cheese corn dog, it's pretty small because it's offered as a side, but I think it was a pretty decent serving for the price and it tasted great too! The wings unfortunately weren't the best, the wings themselves didn't have a lot of meat to them and it could have been breaded better to have a better crunch. We got the spicy flavor, but it wasn't our favorite, it was actually pretty bland with an overbearing spiciness to it. The black bean noodles also wasn't my favorite, the flavor seemed a little off from other black bean noodles I've had. Spicy Korean seasoned chicken: We all thought that it was really salty. I could not taste the spiciness because it was so salty. Really wanted to love this place but unfortunately it missed the mark. Maybe we got it wrong by ordering the less popular "street food" dishes. Bulgogi fries were ok but nothing to rave about. Katsu was a bit disappointing. Although I prefer my katsu to be crispy, the dish was dry and almost flavorless. I did ask the sauce to be on the side but it just didn't cut it, especially when there are so many places out there that do this dish right. The beef soon tofu soup was hot (temperature) but it's supposed to be piping hot so when you crack the egg it takes a few seconds to cook. I kept swirling the soup around waiting for the yolk to cook but it stayed runny/raw for longer than usual. Also the consistency of the soon tofu didn't taste like the traditional way it's prepared. It was thicker and almost creamy-like. Service was fast and the restaurant was clean. There were a few people who opted to dine outside. Ever since the owners changed, the food has gone downhill. Staff is always changing and 90% of them are extremely rude, however there are a few that are very kind. Tacos were thrown in the box and the ramen had little to no broth and I've had change thrown at me because they didn't want to walk towards the counter. I've tried giving them several chances hoping it would get better. The new owners unfortunately do not care about the service. Second in place was the seafood soup as it was flavorful and had plenty of clams and mussels, some shrimp and maybe a tiny piece of fish. Would recommend the spicy version. It's been a few years since my husband and I returned due to a couple negative experiences. Two weeks ago, We ordered the chicken katsu, bulgogi burrito, bulgogi fries, and kimchi balls. Overall everything was really good. We were optimistic that they revamped their menu and improved. Eager to try their fried chicken sandwich, my husband planned on picking up food here on Thursday 9/2 on his way from work. He literally called them 24 times trying to place an order over the phone (between 3:40-4:15pm) and nobody ever picked up. He ended up coming straight home because the restaurant is out of the way. He reached out to them on Instagram and they said they were busy and why they didn't answer. He showed them a screenshot of his call log. The following day (today 9/3) he called 20 minutes ahead and placed an order for 2 chicken sandwiches, the Buldogi (hotdog) and kimchi balls. When he arrived to pick up our order, they said they ran out of buns so didn't make us the Buldogi. My husband said they should have called him back so he could have ordered something else. It's the Friday on Labor Day weekend so traffic was horrific. Once he got home we want to dig into our sandwiches but his bun was totally burnt, like both sides of the bun. It was totally inedible, like how can you not see how black this is? He called them back and the girl on the phone wasn't helpful at all. The sandwich itself was rather disappointing. They use chunks of chicken thigh meat/dark meat and some parts were chewy. More bun than chicken. It was missing the cabbage. There was no offer to help us order as it was our first time there. We came at a time where it was not busy. Fish taco: the fish taco is very good. Small but it's full of great flavor. Really enjoyed the fish taco. Tteokbokki: this dish was ok. The rice cake was cooked great. Perfect level of chewiness but the dish lacked flavor. my party of 2 walked into the restaurant and the front lady made a face, we were rushed to order and leave the restaurant, the lady tried giving herself a $10 tip on a $50 tab, and kept making faces and remarks, Unclean establishment due to ants being on the table . We got egg rolls, fried rice , and regular pho, the egg rolls were good but the fried rice was bland and the pho was mostly broth. The line wasn't bad and there was plenty of outside and inside seating. The Galbi ribs were pretty tough and of average flavor. The rice was a little dry. The Soondubu (kimchi tofu soup) was okay - nice spice levels. The Ttekbokki was strange, with wheat noodles thrown in and they sucked up moisture around the chewy rice cake. I ordered all of this for takeout and once I opened the bags; I was very surprised by the portion sizes. They were HUGE and I was praying and hoping someone could help me eat all of it. The Beef Bulgogi fries were very good and they did NOT skimp out on the meat or cheese which is a common issue for loaded fries like these. Even for the pickiest of eaters, potatoes, cheese, and meat are the holy trilogy to get anyone to try anything. The Kimchi rice balls were still crunchy after being in the box for almost an hour which was very surprising. Honestly, you could get away with getting full from only four of these. The Carbonara Ramen reminded me of normal pasta than ramen tbh and the bacon chunks were GIANT. Most places skimp on meat for price purposes but this place definitely doesn't. Lastly, the tteokbokki was super chewy and a good level of spice. I usually chicken out on spice bc of my very low tolerance but I think this was painful enough to be enjoyable. In total including tax, this was $53 and for my sisters and I we still could not finish it! For reference, there are three of us and at the end there was still half of the fries, most of the pasta, and half of the tteokbokki left. I believe it could easily feed a family of five. I've been wanting to come to K-Towne 88 for the longest time. I finally went with some coworkers for lunch a few weeks ago and was so happy to finally have made it over. I've been dreaming about the bulgogi fries since I first eyed their menu so I knew I had to get those. They were everything I dreamed of and more.
