After exploring the green sand beach, our guide recommended stopping by here for an early dinner. Was an excellent recommendation. We were quite far from our hotel in the Kona area and somewhere on Hwy 11 in Lord knows where, so coming to Ka-Lae was refreshing to be away from tourists despite the fact that we're tourists too! Could easily give this place 5 stars. The food was all very fresh, as they have gardens on site for all the fresh ingredients. My family knows thai food. We try every thai place we run across, everywhere. I have a normal that I order everytime, the thai beef salad. There are so many different way to make thai beef salads. The beef salad was very good, it was just a little different style that I prefer. It was super good and fresh, but I like my dressing a bit more limey and fish saucey, so I probably wouldnt order that again here...but that is just my particular choice...it was all very good. My boys loved the Tom Yum soup here. My husband had spicy fried rice, it was very good. So, aside for the salad not being exactly the way I like it (which is not something you can take off points for...most people would say it was fantastic), the demerit in points is because of the long waits and seating. You need to order your food in advance. You will be told that it will take an hour when you call. They do a lot of take out, actually all take out, but you can eat on the covered patio area on old school picnic tables. The patio overlooks their gardens and the ocean in the distance. Anyway, the wait for food is long, but if you plan ahead, which apparently most people do, then no biggie. I also prefer to be served over food truck style settings. So if that's not a problem for you then give it a try. You will not find fresher fare anywhere around (garden to table). read more
