9-15-25 Picking up lunch for hub's aunty who became 90 today. Luckily when I arrived there was no line outside the door. So many things that looked good but the plate could only hold: Monday's special meatballs Cone sushi Nishime Shoyu chicken Egg They carefully put the meatballs in a little cup, wrapped the nishime separate from the other items. I could hear a man n the other line saying hot dog, hash, etc. Those sounded good. I also ordered 3 rolls of maki sushi: one for aunty, 1 for a friend and one for our own lunch. My friend emailed asking where the sushi was from cuz her husband said it was the biggest he ever saw and that it was delicious. I wish I could show you Aunty's plate before the lady packaged it in a plastic bag cuz it was heavy. I hope she liked it. Strictly business, no pleasantries or smiles. You stand inside the doorway and wait to go in either the right or left line cafeteria style- you look, say what you want then pay, cash only. Nothing fancy as the main dining room is dark and closed off. Typical okazuya place you order and go. Not an eat in place.

My husband & I are suckers for okazuya's. We always passed by this place and we finally decided to give it a try. When we first arrived they had a line (always a sign that it'll be good). They also provided paper menus and pencils so you could figure out your order while waiting. We handed over our paper order to the cashier and she started on our plate. They were quick and packed everything really well so it wouldn't leak onto each other. They have a lot of options from maki sushi, fried chicken, gobo, adobo, etc. We tried a little bit of everything. The fried chicken was super crispy & fresh which I liked. It was also cooked all the way through. Some places don't cook their chicken all the way through. The gobo was spicy for some reason but to be fair, it was my first time eating it. My husband likes gobo and he said it was spicy also, or packed a bit of heat. I seen that a lot of people got the adobo, so being a Filipino, I had to try for myself. It was really tender pieces pork that were falling apart. But had a strong vinegar taste. I personally liked it. The Friday special was stir fry eggplant so I also got that. It was Chinese eggplant cooked in a brown sauce w/ pieces of meat. Price wise, it was typical pricing for okazuya in Oahu. Nothing compared to the okazuya's in Hilo but definitely satisfied our cravings. We will be back to try again :) thank

Anytime I go eat okazuya, I can't but help to think about my Yelp buddy- Bruddah Dan O., as he is da KING of okazuya! Bruddah Dan is da man for okazuya, as he's been to a lot of okazuya joints (including Kabuki), and has generously shared with me some of his recommendations/favorite okazuya joints. On my recent okazuya adventures, da Kabuki Restaurant was targeted, as I was enticed by a marinaded frrrrrried chicken that my Yelp buddy - Donna O. had posted on Yelp not too long ago. Where is the Kabuki Restaurant??? If ya know where the Waimalu Shopping Center is, you can find the Kabuki restaurant among the various eateries at this shopping complex in Aiea. Upon walking into the restaurant, both ladies working the okazuya counter was already helping some folks, but after waiting behind a lady, it was my turn. I proceeded to order da following items- 1. Frrrrrrried Chicken ($3.50 per piece), I got two. Unfortunately for me, I didn't see that Marinated Frrrrrried Chicken that by Yelp buddy - Donna O. had talked about. 2. Shoyu Chicken ($3.50 per piece). 3. Cone Sushi ($2.40). 4. Shrimp Tempura ($2.50). 5. Potato Tempura ($2.25). 6. Egg Omelet ($1.40). What can I say about the grub?? If you like old skool comfort food, Kabuki Okazuya clearly meets the old skool joints. Nothing fancy about the food. I found some items better than others. I LOVED the Shoyu Chicken, but the Fried Chicken appeared over cooked & hard. I really dug the Cone Sushi, and of course the tempura items were to die for! Like many okazuya joints on Oahu, I have a few favorites, but my ultimate all time FAVORITE okazuya joints is actually on da Big Island (Hilo to be exact!). If you're ever in the Aiea neighborhood, Kabuki Okazuya really meets the old skool comfort food joints! Chance 'em!

Kabuki Restaurant our favorite Japanese food restaurant. Now only serving Okazuya 7 days a week. Catering is available especially great for the Holidays. We were feeding a bunch of folks with a bunch of different tastes. Pretty much ordered everything on the menu. All were delicious . The ladies at the counter were awesome. . The cooks were on point, everything was prepared perfectly and so Delicious . When we brought it home everything quickly disappeared.

Wifey wanted sushi, and tea cookies. I dropped her off at Kabukis and I went to Chun Wah Kam near by to pick up the tea cookies. We haven't been to Kabukis since they close their dine in. She bought cone sushi, maki sushi, vegetable tempura and potato tempura. I ate the vegetable tempura. It was delicious. Good tempura crispness , maybe just a little doughy. The cone sushi was also tasty, but I prefer a little more vinegar.Service was fast and efficient. The line move fast. Come early for the best selections .Enjoy

    $14!!! Just for this?!

I always wondered why the line was out the door here. Obviously most of their customers live in the area. Probably going to be my first and last time here. I tried some of their items and still found it just ok. Can't beat Gulick Deli as far as selection and flavor. Their prices are also on par with Gulick but if you crave this okazu items then I'm biased with Gulick. I just love all of Gulick deli's items and Kabuki is just not up to par with them in taste and selections.

My plate! Shoyu chicken, long rice, shrimp tempura, gobo, tamago, futomaki, & da BEST inari :D

We love Kabuki Okazuya! When I think of Okazuya, I usually compare other places to the offerings at Kabuki. There are many other places on the island that serve this type of food, but my bias always steers me back here. I appreciate their menu being on the smaller side so it isn't too overwhelming to come to my decision. I'm the type that wants everything, so it's hard for me to go into a place that has endless options. Foodie problems... haha! :( Service is quick and to the point here. Just wait in line, walk up when you're called, and point to the things you want. There's a menu board on the wall that could help guide you, but the simplest rule of thumb is to choose what looks good that day. Phone orders are also welcomed! Popular items are hard to identify since there's a nice blend of local & Japanese okazu to suit different taste preferences. Our faves start with the fried halibut - a simple piece of fish that's lightly breaded, salted, and fried. Then next is the gobo! This really grew on me over the years of getting old lol I love the savory crunch that has a kick of spice, depending on the bite. Third fave is the long rice noodles and shoyu chicken. I can't ever get a plate without one of the two, so they both land as my third favorite lol. There's also daily specials that remain the same week after week. Thankfully for me, they have all my faves everyday! Admittedly, it would be nice to see different specials from time to time. Through the decades of dining here, I'm almost certain the majority of their menu hasn't changed. On a positive note tho, I am happy to say that I have NEVER had issues with the food here. Yes, everything is prepared ahead of time, but thankfully it all remains fresh and my tummy always approves too!

Love the food here. So many options to choose from. Service is always great. Ambiance is perfect for the spot.

When I'm in the area, kabuki is my go to okazuya place. Some of my favorites are maki, chow fun and nishime. Usually there's a line when we go so expect to wait maybe 10-20 mins when it's busy. The restaurant still closed unfortunately but I used to love coming here for lunch.

    Hope S.

Okazukya review: Been coming here occasionally for years as it is relatively close to my house. Most items around $2-4 each. They have a variety of things from sushi, namasu, tempura, chicken. Tempura can be a little oily but it has good flavor. Chicken was little dry but nice shoyu flavor. Good spot if you are in the area and want a okazuya type of breakfast/lunch.

OMG nooooo!!! I was thinking of taking my friend to this restaurant for his birthday next month, and just read on the question and answer if their restaurant is still open, and saw two answers mentioning that they permanently closed on January 28, 2024. I called Kabuki, and to my relief, the Okazuya side is still open. Yay! I noticed I didn't write a review for this restaurant yet, and after a string of mediocre service or food at other places this past month, I needed to write about somewhere that will lead myself and you yelpers to enjoy and saw this restarant pop up in my pending places to review. I love this place, especially the pork konbu, cone sushi and namasu. They are the best okazuya I could find, and I cannot find anywhere that serves delicious pork konbu like they do, so I have to make a special early morning trip just to get it. Although it says they close at 1p, they are basically out of the good stuff by 11a or sometimes, if I'm lucky, before noon. The last time I went, although a bit salty, I was fortunate to have the last two remaining pieces available for me to enjoy. Now that I am writing this, I am craving for their food and want to go sometime this week when I can wake up and drive out early to get it. There is nowhere to sit and enjoy their food, so I usually pick up to bring home. There is always a line, and only 4 people can be in the store at one time. Also, CASH only. There is an ASB ATM outside, in front of the strip of stores if you don't have enough cash because buying each item can add up. Lots of parking since it is in the waimalu shopping center.

Wow it's been awhile since we've been to kabuki, had a line in the am filled out the sheet for easier ordering but if possible best to phone order your order and go in and pick up you can skip the line, Noodles come in pint $7 or quart size $12 and they pack it in there! All had good flavor really liked the long rice noodles! Everything was so tasty especially loved the halibut so soft and buttery never had a fried fish okazuya definitely must try it if you like fish. Also compared to a lot of other okazuyas their prices seem reasonable and the size of the pieces are good size! Definitely would come back!

This place also has a huge menu so there's something for everyone! They have a variety of curry plates, bentos, poke, and even noodle dishes. Our go to is definitely the chicken karaage curry plate! The chicken is always crispy, a bit sweet, and super juicy! It balances out the slightly spicy and salty curry. We also love that there's vegetables in the curry (carrots & potatoes). We love that the curry comes in a separate container so no soggy chicken! We've also tried their gyoza which is always crispy and has a lot of filling inside. Most recently, I tried their miso salmon bento and that was so flavorful! It came with toss salad, edamame, and miso soup! At around $14 per plate, I think that's a pretty good deal for the amount of food you get!

I personally was not a fan of their curry but their poke bowls is bomb. Their fish seems fresh and it taste great. The rice... Overall I can't give 5 stars because as stated, I am not a fan of their curry but I still would give 4 stars. I'll give their curry a try again... maybe curry just doesn't go with loco moco for me. Their service is typical... it's a food court so can't really expect a lot. Food court of course will be full with customers during certain times and other times it'll be empty. Although the menu has changed a bit, their food and service has stayed consistent. Service has improved as far as timing of food coming out (as goes with all freshly open restaurants). Their staff has always been superb. Top notch, super friendly, knowledgeable of the menu items and always accommodating. I've asked for their recommendations on certain items and their recommendations have always been a good choice. On today's visit (June 2026) we ordered the Korean soy garlic chicken wings, tuna toast and truffle fries as an appetizer. The wings were perfectly cooked.. juicy on the inside and perfectly seasoned and crispy on the outside. The tuna toast was very very very flavorful. It had a hint of smoke and citrus. Interesting but delightful experience for my taste buds. For our main course my date had chefs choice sushi and I had the pork loin katsu. The sushi was fresh and flavorful... you get 10 pcs so depends on your appetite (I'm a big eater so I would've ordered 3x sushi) he enjoyed the perfect portion (he's a skinny boy). I went for the pork katsu..... I highly recommend the pork loin. Super tender and juicy on the inside and perfectly flaky and crispy on the outside. For dessert we had the sweet potato crème brûlée.... Ok so we ordered this bc it's different.. but I wished I went for something more lighter due to alllll the food we ate. But it was interesting. Delicious concept. But for a dessert.... I would've chosen something more lighter. If you're still hungry after your meal... the sweet potato will top you off. Overall, I enjoy this place.... Nice place on the west side, free parking, great food, superb service and beats driving into town for sure! Oh... we also had a bottle of Dassai 45 sake with your meal. I enjoyed it a lot!

Will definitely be back because all other dishes we had were great and service was attentive and efficient! Original review: Service and staff were stellar. But the chicken katsu was one of the worst I've ever had on O'ahu. The chicken katsu was greasy and soaked in old oil that tasted rancid and oxidized, which made the panko a disappointingly saturated mess. The panko was way too browned, and neither flaky or freshly crunchy like katsu should truly be, and was a far cry from the photo in the menu. The poor, fatty chicken quality and the rubbery skin left on the chicken pieces just added to the gristly and chewy nature of the katsu. Charging customers these prices for this kind of subpar quality chicken is absolutely insulting, and we couldn't even finish the dish. It's such a disappointment to write this kind of review, but others need to know what they're getting when they order katsu at Gyotaku.

They just remade my order at this location and did not charge me again, even though the mistake was completely mine. I don't know what happened to the order at the other location. Since it was a common order maybe they waited to see if someone else ordered that? That kind of service really stands out. They definitely did not need to do that, and it made a big difference, especially since I was trying to eat quickly before going into work. Since they were already helping me out, I added a fried fish side, and it was really good. It was very crispy and came with a sweet and sour sauce that worked well with it. I also liked that the fish was local to Hawaii, which made the place feel even more worth supporting.

Food- 4 stars Service- 3 stars…read moreAmbiance 2 stars I just want to say first, the main reason why I rated this restaurant 2 stars is because of the ventilation situation which was non existent. We got smoked out and it got bad to the point where my eyes were getting watery. Not sure if this happens all the time at this spot- this was my first time. The service was okay. We waited over 10 minutes to get cups of water and to put in our order. I totally get that they were short handed which also explains why it took almost 40 minutes for us to be served. Ordered the Negi-Hamachi to try something different. Hamachi is my favorite fish served sashimi style so I decided to switch it up and order the Negi-Hamachi which is finely chopped, yellow-tail with green onion and wasabi over sushi rice served with tsukemono and miso soup. I was super happy with this because the Hamachi was delicious and surprisingly, I did not feel bloated or too full afterwards.

Fuji is a great spot for groups and family dining. It took over the former spot of MBC (Monterey…read moreBay Canners, where I have many fond memories of eating dozens of oysters), that unfortunately, closed during the pandemic. It's a suitable replacement for the time, for families to enjoy sushi or a Teppanyaki dinner "show". The layout has the Teppanyaki dining tables in the front as you enter, rather than at the back of on the side. I suppose it gives an air of excitement as you walk in and watch the chefs put on their show, but the level of "noise" it creates is a bit overwhelming if you're trying to enjoy a nice dinner with a date, or family and friends Our extended family (10 people) went there for an early (5:30pm) dinner on Saturday, before Father's Day, and were seated at the side room behind the glass partitions. From there, we could hear everything happening at the Teppanyaki tables, as though we were right there; especially when they sang "Happy birthday" about 4 different times for the parties enjoying their dinner. Just as a "heads up", I'm not against it, but it was really difficult for us in the other room to actually have a normal conversation across the table while ago that was happening. The food is pretty decent, with a wide selection of sushi rolls and other standard items. I'm not a big sushi roll eater, I prefer great sashimi and an occasional nigiri, but the rolls were pretty good, with several unique offerings. They have Oyster shooters and Uni shooters that come as 2 per order. There were 3 of us (me, my daughter and SIL), so we asked if we could just order 3, rather than 4, but sadly, no. It was fine, and someone in the group ate the other one, but I wished they would price it as each; as most other restaurants that have this item do. The sashimi was average, but it's more of a family dining spot, rather than a sushi bar. The service was good, and everyone enjoyed the food and fellowship. I may be tempted to come to try the Teppanyaki in the future, especially if I'm bringing my granddaughter for the show.

We both…read morethe chicken katsu and ebi fry lunch special and we added 10 piece katsu-kushi and 2 pieces of the mushroom katsu kushi (I think I honestly do not remember). The chicken katsu and ebi fry lunch special was good, the curry was pretty flavorful. It reminds me of golden curry I'd make at home. The katsu was crispy as expected. I liked the rice too, the perfect kind to soak up the curry and pair with the katsu. The Katsu Kushi was fun to eat as it had a good amount of variety. I enjoyed the mochi quite a lot, the beef was a bit tough to eat, and I would note that the soft shell crab was extremely fishy. Like INEDIBLE fishy. I don't know if they always have it like that or if it was just an off one. Either way it was NOT pleasant. The service was friendly, I would definitely visit again if I'm craving katsu and/or curry and was near the area (wouldn't go out of my way for it though).

Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5…read moreAmbiance: 4.5/5 Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. We made reservations and were seated right away. Since this place is located in the mall, parking is very easy. We ordered asahi beers to drink, chicken katsu teishoku, and several kushi katsu (zucchini, shishito pepper, mushroom, and fishcake). Food was very tasty but I noticed it was a bit oily and fatty. Food felt heavy in my stomach at the end of the dinner. Serving sizes exceeded my expectation and my friend and I shared the chicken katsu teishoku. This came with some vegetables and miso soup. Their lettuce salad is unlimited/bottomless and what helped combat the oily food. Service was okay. I didn't like that they passed our table a few times without clearing dishes after seeing us struggle with managing everything on our table. Servers did their job. I recommend trying this place! The food is very tasty and portions are big.
