EVERY time I visit my parents on Long Island, I mean EVERY time - we make a trip to Kabul Grill. The food is consistently fantastic and the staff are very warm and accomodating. The menu has lots and lots of great choices, but we have perfected our order to such a degree, that we order the same exact thing each time. For appetizers: the kadu (pumpkin) is amazing. It can be a bit spicy. And the mashed eggplant is delicious. For our entree, we share the kabobs for two - though it feeds 3 hungry adults. We get the grilled salmon and then either get one kabob of beef or chicken. All amazing choices. It was this salmon that got me started on liking salmon in general. It's perfectly seasoned. And we recommend you get it lightly prepared at medium. Medium/well is too much. Get the kabali rice with it. It's all great. The desserts are also wonderful, but we're ususally too full to partake. read more

I had a ground chicken kebab for lunch, and my wife had a lamb kebab. The meals were not bad, but the flavors were not quite up to our expectations. The lamb didn't taste as though it was on a charcoal grill, although the menu said it was charcoaled. There was no dressing on the salad. The restaurant could have been cleaner. read more

Excellent tasting food. The service is impeccable. The restaurant is clean and screams trendy. The portions however are a bit small.

The worst experience. The service was terrible, served the food without the plates and the soda was all flat.The food was not worth the price. This was not the first time that we had this kind of experience there. Today actually was exceptionally bad. We had a big group and the reservation was made well in advance but still they did not provide enough food. Lot of us left hungry. They even charged the person who did not even touch the food because she had some dietary restrictions. We will not go back to this restaurant. read more

We would have given this place 5 stars years ago when we used to go there once a month. We haven't been back for about a year. When we (family with a 6 and 9 year old) got there today the two workers looked at us like we were Illegals or something worse. They were unfriendly - not exactly rude. One of the girls looked sloppy wearing a big t-shirt; inappropriate for a server. Pita wasn't offered and actually costs extra. They sent out 2 salads and didn't even tell us that our platter only included 2 salads, not offering an option for the other 2 people at our table. Portions were small and the presentation was weak. The girls seemed affable with everyone else but would not engage us for whatever reason. When we left no one said goodbye. Not being picky at all. But it was really odd. We're never going back. I came here for my sisters birthday, it's a nice place to bring family and friends. The atmosphere is very welcoming and sets a mellow relaxed mood. I believe the restaurant is family owned and the two waitresses might have been sisters. The service was very nice and they were friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The food didn't take long at all to be served, and it was slightly busy at the time. We all ordered different things and everyone agreed that the food was very good, much better than other Afghan places that we have been to. Barg kebab is one of my favorite dishes - a juicy, sliced piece of seasoned steak, served with rice and a salad. Very welcoming environment, warm lighting, and convenient location. It is a family-owned establishment and the service is very friendly to make sure you get everything you need. Also has some Afghan desserts and a nice cappuccino to finish the meal. I normally never comment or write reviews on Yelp. I've been to this restaurant several times but for some reason the host felt today was a good to day to be rude. We sat down and left after a few minutes. As usual this place isn't ever busy. Typically we've only seen a few tables seated at most whenever I've went to this restaurant. Today my family of 4 and I went to dine inside. Since it wasn't busy we asked if we can just move to the other table which sat 5-6 people. The host said the table we have is good for 4 people... like okay I get that this table was meant for 4 people clearly I can see the four chairs. My father asked if we can just move to a bigger table and asked if the other tables are reserved for anyone else. She said no. Then after we said the amount of orders we wanted, she was rude enough to say "yeah I think that could fit this table." We didn't ask for her input but simply requested a table with more space. My family and I would have no problem at all if the restaurant was packed or busy or if the tables were reserved. When she begrudgingly said we can sit in the other table she made rude remarks under her breath about cost efficiency. I don't understand what cost efficiency has to do with anything if there's only 2 other tables being used. I understand this is a family business and she and her sister are the owners daughters. However that does not entitle anyone to give poor and rude customer service. After she took our order rolled her eyes and walked walked away, my family and I just left. I've eaten out at plenty of restaurants and don't write reviews even if the food is terrible. However, I don't appreciate anyone's rude and obnoxious behavior towards my parents for only asking to be moved to another table... when the place was empty. Not coming back here again. read more

I found this place based on a recommendation an Afghan friend. He said that the cooking was better than his mothers which I always enjoyed. The lighting is low which is great for going out on dates or with your spouse. Since I did not know what many of the menu item were without reading the description I decided to ask the waiter for him. He was very helpful. I told him the things that I ate at my friend's home and he made some suggestions. They are all great. The one appetizer that he said I should try was Mantu which was delicious. I normally do not eat pumpkin but this is a dish that I will ask for again. Very sweet. I thought that the prices were very reasonable and I plan on coming back the next time I am meeting friends in the Broadway Mall area. I miss the food from the Kabul Grill I am used to traditional Italian food and tried them when they were open in flushing NY and followed them to Hicksville. Their food is full of wonderful different flavors, do not expect hot food in terms of spice , for the most part, but many new and different wonderful flavors. Their appetizers are great I usually take another couple and we order 2 combination appetizers in which you get 3 different appetizers for a combination. I love a combination of their brown and white rice with the Kebabs. I have recently moved to NC and have cravings for their wonderful food. I can't wait to take a trip back to NY to visit. First off as an afghan person it is really hard to have authentic afghan food outside of the house. This place is the ONLY place that has it. Best Bann jann, bolani, kabobs and especially the rice that they are so famous for. Please save room for desert as the firnee (afghan rice pudding) is the best in all of New York. I came and got the ban Jann to start which is fried egg plans with yogurt best eaten with Nan on the side. After that I ordered the Lamb Shank very meaty and full-filling.
