It means revolving, a staff member told me. It's a fun meal because you order from a tablet, and your food is delivered to you on a conveyor belt. A bot/robot delivers closed drinks, such as a can of soda or bottled beverage. There are human staff members to help you. You can summon for service in the tablet. So, when I wanted to know what was inside the ocean roll, or green dragon roll, I summoned a server, and asked for the details. There is a strict 90 minute dine in policy and one person in our party was running late, we ended up sitting at the individual seats with iPad devices to order your sushi choices of nigiris, handrolls, rolls, and sides. We choose the all you can eat option, and there was a promo for 50% off wheat beer during our dinner. When ordering, it was 4 items at a time and pieces come fairly fast. There is a notification that alerts you when your order is in it's way on the conveyor belt. If you order a non-alcoholic drink, a robo server will bring the drink over to you. I have seen this spot as one of the few conveyor belt spots in NYC and on top of that, it's also AYCE. However, after coming here, I was left heavily disappointed. For $49.99 you can do 90 minutes of AYCE nigiri, handrolls, appetizers, and noodle dishes (at dinner). While I thought that it was worth it at first as I saw online that they offered some premium items such as scallop and toro with salmon, their current menu does not offer it. Their current menu is much more limited and doesn't include anything special that would make the experience worth $50. Moreover, the quality of the dishes themselves aren't very good. The fish to rice ratio is so bad; I have never seen a spot give out thinner slices of fish. Their appetizers and other fried dishes don't offer anything good either. Their allure of being a conveyor belt spot also isn't accurate as the food is delivered out to our as you order--it doesn't come around on a conveyor belt. The only reason why they likely have a high rating on Google is due to their free drink incentive for writing a 5-star review. Prices are pretty decent but be mindful when ordering how much food you are getting as those plates will add up. I'm pretty sure every single customer shares my disappointment that Kaiten's conveyer belt sushi is not actually a continuous train but instead an Uber - individual dishes coming to specific tables as they are ordered. The vibe of the restaurant suffers as a result. Ninety percent of the time, you're staring down the entire length of three empty lanes wondering if this restaurant serves any food at all. I doubt this will ever change. Each belt is a straight shot concluding in a dead-end. Much like the NYC subway, the infrastructure is not conducive to meaningful upgrades. I don't think it's a coincidence that the windows of the restaurant are essentially boarded up with posters / tv screens. They don't want you to catch a glimpse of their dystopian interior and decide to go somewhere else. That being said, the service was quite good and once they trapped me inside with their initial deception, I felt more or less fine staying for dinner. Their handrolls were surprisingly good. I wouldn't come back here for lunch, and probably wouldn't come here for the AYCE dinner because I think the overall quality isn't worth $50pp, but I am curious about how much more extensive the dinner menu is than the lunch menu. The lunch menu included some things like shrimp roll, California roll, eel avocado, rainbow roll, and some hand rolls, but I wish there were more creative "special" rolls. The fish quality was okay, but the rice downgraded everything in my opinion. It was too mushy and just wasn't fresh. I think if the rice was better, it'd consider coming back because the fish quality itself was fine. Some other things I tried were the vegetables potstickers, chicken potstickers, and crab salad. So I came for a weeknight dinner which has a more extensive menu than lunch because I was craving scallops which were included in dinner but not lunch. However when I arrived I noticed that scallops were crossed out on the menus, and when I went to order not only were there no scallop nigiri, but also no scallop handrolls. And the price remained the same at 50/pp. Alas... The experience is very fun. You order on an iPad and sushi shoots out to you on the conveyer belt. Quality of the fish was fine, salmon was better than the tuna for sure. I liked the torched options a lot! Nigiri and rolls all have lots of rice. Also got some drinks, which were good. Sparkling sake was the standout. Service was also nice and friendly aside from the scallop snafu. For dessert, their iPad wasn't working but the server let us know that you can order green tea mochi, which was a nice end to the meal. I'm glad I tried this spot, but overall it was not worth it. It sang happy birthday to another table. Tablet pings when food is ready. Belt delivers it directly to the table, stops and waits for you to remove. Fun concept but expected a true conveyor experience with food cycling through. Sushi was fresh and obviously made to order. No wasabi, though. Nori was tough on the hand rolls. We did not like the Godzilla roll which ended up being fried octopus. Too tough but I picked out the avocado and crab pieces, leaving the rest. Also, there was a shrimp roll that had a deep brown sauce that was bitter. We had 2 of the 4 pieces of it. My friend ate the meat and veg from his Tonkatsu but left some of the broth. However, there was construction and roadwork going on outside that was blocking the entrance, and we literally had to step over wet cement to go in. We were seated at the booth and chose the AYCE option. 60 minutes. We started ordering, and since we were one of three tables, food came relatively fast. You can only order 4 items at a time via a tablet, that comes on a conveyer belt to your table. Otherwise, the conveyer belt is empty. The sushi rice was awful. It came out cold and hard. Since the restaurant had just opened, I figured their rice should have been freshly cooked and ready for customers. Not the case. It also did not taste seasoned at all. Fish to rice ratio was terrible. Ordered a couple of other items, and the restaurant started filling up. Things started coming out a lot slower. When we had 20 minutes left, I ordered a couple more items, figuring it would be enough time. Those items never came. Our tablet shut off before our 60 minute mark - we sat and started ordering around 11:35. Our tablet shut off by 12:27. A waiter brought our bill - in which I told him that we were still waiting on items, and that our 1 hour was not up. He walks away, 5 more minutes pass, another waiter brings the bill. Still no food. At this point, I just tell him to cancel it, as it'd been more than 20 minutes since we put it in. We only ended up eating around 11 plates of food between my friend and I because the food came out so very slow. Since food is being delivered by a sliding machine, not a server... the "gratuity" is challenging. The service provided: seating, water (no refill), clean up. So based on that... would you tip 18%? I find that being generous. Yet, that's the minimum on that touchpad. Food: sub-par sushi... 80% of what we got was very "blah"... like low quality. The selection was not wide. Honestly, any Asian run sushi (not by Japanese chef) is probably just as good if not better. The 2 hand rolls were probably the best option... which are the spicy tuna and the toro one. The conveyor belt situation is so much fun. Love how the food arrives correctly, quickly and to your exact location. This automation does not take away from the fact that there are real humans who work in the restaurant to answer questions and ensure you are having a good experience. We ate almost everything we could on the menu and a few things more than twice. There were lots of vegetarian options and many items besides straight up sushi. Even though Kaiten Zushi isn't the rotating conveyor belt sushi of your dreams doesn't mean you shouldn't check it out. It's the only conveyor belt sushi spot currently in Manhattan - and it's all-you-can-eat too (time limited)! Keep in mind the lunch menu is smaller than the dinner menu, but it's also cheaper. While many conveyor belt sushi restaurants have what seems to be a never ending supply on a rotating conveyor belt that circles the entire restaurant, Kaiten Zushi does it differently. Here, you order most of your wants on an iPad that sits on the table, send it in, and once ready, each food item is sent via conveyor belt directly to your table: from soup and apps to hand rolls and sushi rolls. While sake was delivered by a server, sodas like Diet Coke are delivered by a robot. Keep in mind that all-you-can-eat is time limited and no takeout is allowed. Leftovers are charged at the a la carte price, so only order as much as you can realistically eat. You can always order more! While nothing food-wise was memorable, we didn't have anything that wasn't good. We really liked the hand rolls, the Udon, and kani salad, and of course the nigiri and sushi rolls were great too. You can't go wrong with the edemame or chicken karage, either. Hubby discovered this amazing place! We used to eat at East Kaiten sushi. They closed permanently a few years ago. This Kaiten Zushi is a big place with big booths. Our first visit was dinner time. Mo was our waitress for the night, but here, waiters and waitresses work quite differently with their customers since they don't take the food to the tables for customers. We saw a robot bringing drinks to the customers too. Soon, I'll be seeing robots dining at one of the tables. Then robots will be feeding customers too ha! On our first visit, we had the ramen, fire roll, eel, salmon toro, avocado salad, shrimp, yellowtail, and more salmon toro and the Philadelphia roll, which was unique because they added cream cheese to the Philly roll. We thought the first visit was quite good. On our second visit, which was lunchtime, we had more salmon toro and my favorite, Anago nigiri, probably one of my best! I recommend Anago Nigiri and Salmon Toro if you're unsure what to order. We also had great hand rolls, spicy tuna, and eel avocado. We tried Ocean Roll on our second visit, and it was pretty good. They have all-you-can-eat sushi, but Anago is not one of them. We'll try all-you-can-eat sushi someday, but we have to do it on a weekday for a reasonable price. All-you-can-eat is $50 on weekends, and on weekdays, it's $30+. To do "all-you-can-eat" from the menu, you must have all parties do the same. Otherwise, get the a la carte. I honestly cannot understand how this place has the rating it does. We paid for the all-you-can-eat experience and were never informed that the kitchen would effectively stop serving around 9:20 PM. No warning when we sat down, no warning when we ordered, and no warning before paying. Instead, we were left rushing to order as much as possible before service ended. Imagine paying full price for an AYCE experience only to discover you have about 20 minutes to eat before everything shuts down. Had we been told in advance, we would have gone somewhere else. The cleanliness was equally disappointing. There was mayonnaise smeared on the conveyor belt, the floor felt sticky, greasy, and poorly maintained, and the overall condition of the restaurant made us question the hygiene standards. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in New York City. The business seems far more interested in collecting payment than providing the experience customers are actually paying for. You order on the Ipad and the food is made fresh and arrives quickly on the conveyor belt. The staff is attentive and quick to clear your empty plates. The robot that brings out drinks is a fun touch as it reminds me of Tokyo. This place is great for groups and parties and overall it's a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Even though I'm not a big sushi fan, I really liked the potato croquette. It came out hot and crispy, a clear sign that everything is made to order. We stumbled upon this conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Nomad. The restaurant offers two menus - a la carte or ACYE. Given it was our first time and we weren't too hungry, we opted for the a la carte option. Unlike Kura (a known conveyor belt sushi restaurant), you order from a pad and the dish will appear at your table; but it lacks the fun of checking out all the dishes passing by on the belt. The prices were reasonable, but the sushi rolls weren't neatly presented (see photos). Zaiten Zushi I really liked! I like how the sushi comes out in a conveyor belt and you're able to try various different dishes costing around $4-$7 each! The sushi also came out very fast, I ordered on the iPad and it came out in a couple of minutes. I was able to also change my order when I told the waiters that I wanted to change it. The customer service was really great! Keep in mind that this is the only conveyor sushi belt in Manhattan. The place was also spacious and huge with a modern ambience to it. I really liked the miso soup, the eel, and tuna roll! The French fries were also really good! The sushi was tasty and very fresh. Interesting concept and wait staff was very nice. We really wanted to like it but unfortunately the food quality was not good. You can tell the focus was maximizing margins with the amount of rice, avocado and other fillers that were in all their sushi. You can get way better sushi than here for $50. read more

I recently tried this place for their lunchtime AYCE, and have to say that I really enjoyed my experience there. The sushi is fresh and very good and the environment is great. Having lived in Japan for several years (Tokyo, Osaka, and Himeji), I'm very spoiled when it comes to sushi and not into 'Americanized' sushi. But, this place was a nice surprise. I focused exclusively on the sushi that was on offer, with the idea that I'd sample other things another time (like miso soup, karaage, salad, etc.). Standouts were the unagi, salmon, and the hand rolls. They were delicious. Take a look at the pictures, and tell me that they don't look appetizing! As a hardcore sushi fanatic who used to have sushi 3-4 times a week (for a fraction of the price that we pay here in NYC), I'm not going to nitpick over different points. As a passionate traveler, my bottom line recommendation would be, of course, to just go to Japan and sample it for yourself. You won't believe the difference in cut and quality. But in the meantime, this shop is a great alternative. It's really pretty darned good, and the interior design is definitely reminiscent of a typical kaiten zushi place in Japan. No matter what region you're in, from Hokkaido to Oki, they look basically the same. I'll definitely return to this shop and check out the rest of the menu, and if you're in the area why not give it a try? I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience. read more

I was excited to bring my mentee here because I wanted her to experience sushi boats. I knew going in that what they have here is not exactly a revolving sushi boat experience but it's the closest thing that I could find in the city. You order via ipad and the sushi is delivered to your table via a conveyer belt, which was not really that exciting, unfortunately. That would have been fine because it was still something different to experience, but the sushi was just not good. Reasonable pricing a la carte but just not very fresh or good. Came here and did the AYCE option. The food here was pretty basic for the $50 price per person. I've been to a similar conveyer belt sushi spot in NJ and Long Island and they both had way more options. Cool concept but probably just a one time try. read more
