Decided to try Kale Hale since I saw an IG post advertising $5 a pound Wagyu for local residents through the end of August. If you haven't tried Wagyu meat, it really is amazing! We weren't sure what to expect and we were pleasantly surprised. This was a Korean Hawaiian fusion restaurant and they have AYCE options with reasonable pricing for the quality of food. We ordered the Gold which had great options and we added the Wagyu to the ordered. The food was amazing. For dessert, the strawberry Lihui mui ice cake was included and it totally hit the spot. Our service was great, friendly and attentive. The restaurant was clean. Our only negative was it seemed a little messy, better organized storage in the eating area would help. We will definitely be back because everything else was great. Very down to earth, local vibe for sure with great food and a friendly staff! Win-win for everyone!

First time here and so glad we made an OpenTable reservation. The wait was about an hour otherwise! Food and service were amazing. Rice was perfect. The banchan was a good assortment. Also came with delicious luau stew. Our waitress checked on us often, so we always had meat on the grill. Along with AYCE, the specials were pho and crab hand rolls. We also scored the $20 pre-order he'e blade! Definitely a great first experience! For sure we'll be back soon.

Four and a 1/2 stars for excellent service, especially loved the table being set with banchan prior to seating. The smokeless grills are great, no smelly grilled meat car ride afterwards. Party of 7 we had the gold menu and it's a good value that's thoughtfully crafted for an awesome dining experience. Can't wait for our next visit and to try the other menus!!!

If your looking for an all you can eat place with high quality meat & sides this is your place! This place is not like your typical cook your own meat place it's a whole vibe! Love that i didn't leave smelling like bbq lol Our server was absolutely amazing I can't remember his name but round of applause for handling our party of 12 like a champ! This in my books is a MUST try place & I'll guarantee you'll be back! Shoutout to kale hale for the kamaaina discount

I've only been to a few KBBQ spots on the island so far but this place is my favorite! Meats were seasoned well, sides were tasty, and service was attentive. My favorite meats were the guava pork and salmon special.

Excellent customer service and great price for the food selection! My team and I were there for a farewell luncheon for one of my employees and the food selection was awesome! Everything from the side dishes and soup to the meats were amazing and fresh. Our waitress was super friendly and checked on us frequently through our time there. She made sure our drinks were full and asked we wanted more meat or side dishes.. she was absolutely attentive the whole time. At the end of our meal we were offered a living Mui shaved ice, but I opted for the burnt cheesecake because it looked amazing.

We loved the specials again!! They always rotate, so we do miss the lau lau and jook, but we were so happy with the other surprise specials, especially the crispy fried fish with spicy Asian sauce. Loved the flavors and textures of that one, asked for it again and again, even had it as my dessert! We were also super into the pipikaula, so tasty and tender! Plus the new kupuna special for only $20 makes this an extra awesome place to visit with my mom, who still cooks my bbq food (so I can focus on eating!!). We loved the refreshing mango ice cream after, too! We always know it's gonna be a great time at this place with the very friendly and cheerful service and the owner always coming by to make sure we're all happy and well fed - happy first year anniversary!!

The online standby system isn't active yet. I found out when we arrived and were asked if we had a reservation. We waited about 5-10 mins at the front & we're seated past the kitchen towards the left at a booth. My husband, being a tall and muscular guy, had difficulty fitting as the distance between table and bench was minimal on both sides. Our server was friendly & helpful, answered all our questions, provided us with samples of dishes. While some of the things we ordered very super tasty, others lacked flavor. Portions were decent. I'd be willing to try them again & take our time next round as they had some interesting selections!

My partner has been cooking all week, and I also recently lost a bet on a TV show... so I decided it was only right to take him out for his favorite type of food: meat. I've had Kale Hale on my "places to try" list for a while, and since they have a lot of meat options, it felt like the perfect choice. I made a same-day reservation and we went for it. First off, the ambiance is super chill and the service was great. Our server was really friendly; I think her name was Rylan (sorry if I spelled it wrong!). She had the prettiest Sakura nails and definitely made the experience even better. They offer three different tiers: * Gold - $32.99 * Value - $59.99 * Popular - $149.99 And listen... I'm a Taurus, so you can probably guess which one I picked. I went with the Popular tier because I wanted the best option. It includes all-you-can-eat Wagyu, and that night they even had specials like lobster.Everything was perfect. We went a couple rounds with the Wagyu and tried some of the regular meats too. Everything was on point. I'd definitely come back to try the other tiers in the future. Most importantly, my partner was happy, which made the money well spent.

Came back one last time before flying back to Texas. Met up with an old friend who wanted to eat somewhere so I recommended this restaurant again. We ordered the Value again and food was so good that my friend said he'll be back with friends or family. Finally got a chance to meet Chef Kale and he is literally like his videos. Very cool and super friendly braddah. I didn't see him originally and had to leave, but he literally came out to call out to me in the parking lot to let me sample an amazing Japanese A5 cut. Definitely a big marbleized difference between the cuts. Please go support this braddahs restaurant if you're in my hometown, Kaliheeeeee!

My first time dining at Kale's Hale after it was recommended to me, and I'm so glad I finally went. The service was friendly, quick, and attentive. The atmosphere is welcoming and spacious enough where you don't feel cramped to the table next to you. Food is KBBQ with Hawaiian fusion menu items. They have different tiers that come with different meat choices. We went with the gold experience to get a starter experience but we'll definitely be back to try their premium tiers. You get some banchan that's typical KBBQ plus some Hawaii local favorites like Mac salad and lomi salmon. You also start off with some appetizers that rotate daily. Highlights of the meal was the luau soup and guava pork. I loved how the guava pork was first of all thin sliced, and the taste was just subtle enough where you got a nice guava sweetness without it being overpowering. Highly recommend Kale's Hale!

    Starting banchan.

Late Valentine's Day celebration. Went on a Thursday.....$1 beers and 1/2 off the price of cocktails! What a deal!!!! We thought it was $1 off the price of a beer but noooo.......the beers were $1. Service and food were predictably and consistently great as usual!

It's to the point that at least one of the servers has recognized me and welcomes me back. Each time, we have enjoyed every thing that we've ordered. Frankly, my only trouble with this restaurant is finding parking. I plan to get there early so I can have a few laps around to find a spot. Their apps are always tasty. I've loved their hamachi crudo, the calamari, the Spanish octopus and the street corn. My go to app is the maitake mushrooms. For lunch, I'm a big fan of their banh mi's as I've eaten both the brisket and lemongrass. The bread is nice and crispy and everything is oh so good. For dinner, my wife loved the soft shell crab pasta and I've really enjoyed the crispy pork belly. I'm going to come back to try the Picanha this next time! Lol Luckily, she loves this place so that fail ended being a win! We got there a little before they opened, so we waited outside and as soon as they opened they were able to seat us. It wasn't that crowded when we first got there, but when we left all the tables were full. We got the lobster nem nuong summer roll, softshell crab pasta, and the duck rice. The lobster summer roll was soooo good! My fav thing. It had lobster, Vietnamese sausage, and veggies. On top of a thick peanut sauce that was so tasty. I also added some chili sauce to it. The summer roll itself was tasty that it really didn't need much sauce. The softshell crab was a must since I've been eyeing that out on Yelp. The softshell crab had a little too much batter for my liking, but it went well with the creamy pasta. The pasta was the best part. And the duck rice was also so good. The duck literally fell off the bone. And the rice had just the right amount of flavor. With a side of pickled veggies, tomatoes and cucumbers. I recommend that if you plan to come here, make reservations because it's not a huge place. They have a good amount of seating but it did get pretty full. They have a parking so you don't have to pay for parking. They are located in the same shopping center as the old Hungry Lion.

The menu has changed to a more tapa style. We went with our two young children & they were very accommodating. We ordered a bunch of stuff but most notable was the Ensalada Salad, Croquette Cordero, Taco Raisu, Karaage Pollo, and for dessert, the Piña Borracha. We ordered some pork and steak skewers. These were ok, I would skip these next time. A little burnt. My favorite was the Ensalada Salad. The crab was sweet and the salsa opaca was so refreshing with the apple foam. Was told to smash the crisp on top and combine it with everything and that took it to another level! So good that we ordered another one. The price of this was so affordable too! The Croquette Cordero was like a mini curry ball with chimuchirri sauce. A little heavy but if you love curry, this is for you! The Taco Raisu surprised us. The taco meat was so flavorful!! Even though we were stuffed, we kept going back for more. It's like a deconstructed taco & you use the lettuce as a wrap. The Karaage Pollo came with a Cucumber Escabeche. It was so tangy and refreshing, which perfectly cuts through the rich, savory oiliness of the fried chicken. We got the Piña Borracha for dessert and that had a coconut cake, coconut lime mousse, banana lilikoi curd, and pasted pineapple on top. Amazing!! Great way to end the night. Everything was top notch. You can tell they put a lot of effort into each dish. Can't wait to go back!

The food was okay. There was more than we were expecting, however the short ribs were a little tough. The ambiance, it was nice and empty by the time we left. Overall, what had been something we'd been looking forward to for years turned out to be a dismal disappointment. The experience left us feeling unwelcome, particularly because it seemed the staff were uncomfortable with two men simply going out for lunch. Being a Black and Asian couple shouldn't have any bearing on how paying customers are treated, but unfortunately, that's how the experience felt to us. We can overlook mediocre food or service, but feeling judged or unwelcome is something we won't overlook. We were there as paying customers and deserved to be treated with the same courtesy and respect as anyone else. Unfortunately, this is a place we won't be returning to, and based on our experience, we would not recommend it to others.

After a few minutes, I went toward the back to find a staff member, while another person in my party went toward the middle of the restaurant to get the host's attention. The host asked if we had been checked in, and when my sister explained that we hadn't been helped yet, she told us to go back and wait in the front. Her tone came across as somewhat condescending, and we weren't given any information about our reservation or how long we would be waiting. While we waited, we all noticed the host whispering to a server, who then looked directly at us. I don't want to assume what they were discussing, but given the interaction we'd just had, seeing her whisper to the server and then having the server look directly at us made the situation feel awkward and unprofessional. We eventually decided to wait outside, and about five minutes later, the host came out and seated us right at our reservation time. There were plenty of open seats on the patio, where we were ultimately seated, so it felt like we could have simply been acknowledged when we arrived and given some basic information about our reservation. Our server was friendly, but unfortunately, the service was minimal. He only checked on us a couple of times throughout the meal. We later found out that the host who talked to my sister was actually the co-owner of the restaurant, which made the experience more disappointing. I was taken aback by the lack of professionalism, especially seeing her repeatedly whispering with staff directly in front of us. Again, I can't say what was being discussed, but regardless, I don't think that type of interaction creates a very professional impression for someone representing their own restaurant. To me, it doesn't really matter how good the food is if the service is poor. Service can make or break an entire dining experience, and unfortunately, the food wasn't particularly impressive either, so there wasn't much to redeem the experience. For the price, I expected a lot more in terms of both the quality of the food and the overall experience. I understand the restaurant was busy, especially around the bar. However, the biggest issue was the lack of communication and professionalism throughout the experience. We were there celebrating a birthday, and unfortunately, it wasn't what we had hoped for. Overall, there are plenty of places where I'd rather spend this kind of money and receive both good food and service. I hope they take this feedback seriously and work toward creating a more welcoming and professional experience for their guests. I'm not leaving this review simply to criticize or tear down the restaurant, but I do think businesses should be open to honest feedback and use it as an opportunity to improve. I hope they are able to take the feedback in that spirit. Aloha.

It really felt like a family owned business, and the same three people were there both days. Everyone was extremely nice, and honestly, I would come back just because of how welcoming they were. We ordered the sesame chicken with fried rice, and the portion of sesame chicken was huge. I definitely wasn't expecting that much food, but I'm not complaining. The chicken was really crispy and had a great flavor. The food also came out pretty quickly, so there wasn't much of a wait. One thing I really appreciated was how attentive they were with the water. I drink a lot of water, especially with how hot it is in Hawaii, and I mentioned that when we first sat down. Every time my glass started getting low, the gentleman would come over and refill it without me even having to ask. He probably refilled it 8 to 10 times, which I really appreciated. The music was also really good, and we had a nice window seat where we could look outside. The seating was comfortable and the whole experience was just really pleasant. I would definitely recommend coming here, especially if you appreciate good food and genuinely friendly service.

Became a fan of Chef Kajioka after dining at Cafe Miro in January. As we were planning a trip back…read morein August for the wifey's bday, I definitely wanted to head back and made reservations for The Counter as I saw pics on IG of their meal here. We lucked out and found street parking nearby. As we walked into the restaurant, we were quickly greeted by the host/server who showed us to our seats along the U shaped counter. Loved the clean and modern decor inside the restaurant. As we sat down, our water cups were quickly filled and the only few questions they had for us was whether we wanted the wine pairing and we wanted to add the caviar toast and shaved truffles. We opted for the wine pairing, caviar toast and truffles. The meal was fantastic from start to finish. The most notable dishes for me were the ahi and caviar toast, cold corn soup, the lobster and the dessert. Sadly the portion of the toast here was about 1/2 the size of what we had at the cafe and unfortunately they didn't have uni for the night (maybe don't go on a Tuesday). Service was fantastic but they did have a few hiccups which were tolerable as the food was amazing. The wine pairing was also good and paired well with the dishes. As we are currently planning our trip back later this year, we will definitely head back to either the cafe (if the remodel is completed) or back to the counter for another meal. This is likely the best meal we've had in HNL in quite some time and highly recommend it.

Miro Kaimuki - The Counter: An elegant, intimate experience that, sadly, left a lot to be desired…read more The service was great but I had a few qualms which influenced my decision of probably not returning. A couple things about Miro: - You have to pre-pay via OpenTable (unsure how it works if you call ahead), but just be aware you will be fronting the cost. Also, there are two seatings, one at 5pm, and one at 7:30pm. The 5pm seating is $165 per person and the 7:30pm seating is $195. I'm not sure if there is a menu difference but just know there is a difference in price depending on the time you choose. - Upon arrival you have to wait outside before being let inside. The restaurant locks the doors while they are in service, so if you are the 2nd seating (which is what we were) at 7:30pm, you will have to wait outside. Honestly my girlfriend and I were pretty confused as we've never had this experience before. We even tried to message/call the restaurant but didn't hear from them so we were close to leaving, but luckily some people were leaving from the earlier seating and let us know to wait outside and that the servers would let us in when the time comes. Now onto the most important part- the food. The menu was 6 courses (not including the bread). We got all of the add-ons and I also did the wine pairing. There wasn't any menu available but here's what I got based on photos: - First Course: 4 starters which reminded me of Bar Maze. This was probably the best course for me. I really wish I knew the names of each dish but it was an oyster, salmon tart, another tart (I think this was tomato or something), and ikura toast. All of it was super tasty. - Second Course: Ahi, Caviar, and Uni all on top of their special toasted bread. Now I am a big proponent of all three toppings, but the bread was so rich and dense, it overpowered all of the toppings. I felt the uni went best with the toast, but definitely not my favorite to start a meal so heavy. - Third Course: Almost like a bacon carbonara but without any pasta? It was kind of like a custard texture. It was good but felt a little out of place in the whole grand scheme of the tasting menu. - Bread: I don't count this as a course but we were served this beautiful baked bread with honey butter. Super yummy. - Fourth Course: Lobster - which, of course was tasty but not memorable for me. - Fifth Course: I can't remember if this was wagyu but this was also pretty good. Pretty small for an entree but the meat was cooked well and the presentation was very nice. - 6th Course: There were two desserts and one complimentary dessert for my birthday. The orange creamsicle dessert was the best one. My girlfriend and I didn't like the gummies as they were a bit too sour/savory for our taste (it was li hing flavored which isn't my favorite so I could be biased). The birthday dessert which was a dark chocolate cake thing- it was OK. The cocoa was a bit bitter and was a little too unsweet for our taste. Overall, I think Miro was just okay. For the cost of $195 per person + the wine pairing (which I believe was another $95), and the add-on's for both of us (~$60-70?) plus my girlfriends mocktail, this came out to a very steep $550+ dinner. I feel for 6 courses this is pretty overpriced, especially because the portions are super small and I don't feel the tasting menu was very cohesive. I would definitely rather go to NatuRe, Mugen, or Senia as they are relatively close (or at times cheaper) in price to Miro. Don't get me wrong, the ambiance was beautiful and intimate, and I think it's worth trying at least once if you want to splurge, but sadly this won't be a restaurant I return to regularly, if at all in the future.
