Trying this place for the first time, I'm not huge on ramen simply because I don't eat it often, but it was actually really good. We got our order to go since it was so close to closing and working in customer service I know it sucks when people show up 15 minutes before closing. When I think of ramen I think back to the 5 cent packages we got from costco back in college. I have to admit I was a bit hesitant going to a restaurant that specializes in Ramen after only eating it out of necessity. But I was totally surprised by the quality of food here. I really couldn't believe how flavorful it was, definitely doesn't compare to packaged top ramen. Ordered Tonkatsu ramen with kamisama toppings, garlic edamame, shrimp tempura, and a kamisama roll. First off, they gave me regular edamame, not garlic. The corrected garlic edamame arrived burnt--literally. I've seen places with overcooked garlic and still edible, but one side of the edamame was 80-90% black. Not kosher. I do not know how they can approve for "well done" edamame to be served. The shrimp tempura was slightly oily. I tasted more of the tempura batter than the actual shrimp. The ramen was salty for my taste. Lastly, the kamisama roll arrived in what appeared to be 6 pieces of the roll. I may not know how make sushi rolls but this roll came out looking smashed as if the person making it was holding it down too hard while cutting the slices. I'm sorry but this was not a very good first impression for me at this site. read more

We were sooo disappointed by the way the blonde waitress treated us. We had finially got my daughter to go eat since the loss of her husband. We walked through the door and were looked at with a dumbfounded look no greeting. There was 11 of us. I said just sit us at the 3 tables available nearby. Waitress acted annoyed. Started pushing tables together. Midstream she stopped and started chatting with another group sitted. My daughter went over and started to finish the job, waitress was annoyed and said if you'd wait I'd finish. Then another young man waiter takes our order, very nice. Blonde waitress comes over and takes my daughters order, she asked waitress if she can split the order 3 ways for her 5 yr old triplets, NO, we can only split it 2 ways. My daughter said just bring me the plate I'll split it myself. The waitress brings out chop sticks for 5 yr olds, my daughter said I asked for FORKS. Waitress rolls her eyes in disgust. Then the waitress brings out another order, not knowing where to place it, she says hey diamond boy, this yours? How RUDE !!!! When my daughter left, I told the waiter how kind he was, but told the blonde waitress she was VERY RUDE. She acted dumb like what did I do. What do you expect me to do? I decided to try this place for lunch. I have heard people talking about it, saying that it was pretty good. I decided to have the teriyaki chicken with garlic fried rice. The chicken was very, very chewy. The garlic fried rice had a lot of burnt garlic and was flooded with teriyaki sauce, too much. I did eat about half of the bow trying to give it a fair chance, but with all the garlic and teriyaki sauce I could not finish it. But just to be fair I will try this place again, I will try the Ramen because that's what everyone says it's so good. So I look forward to giving this place a better rating next time. read more

My mom wanted to try this place out after reading an article in Bakersfield Life magazine. Loved being able to choose the broth & toppings for our noodle bowls. The BBQ pork (cha shu) looked different then the traditional "red" tinted pork I am use to, but it was moist & delish. My sister and I added a side of shrimp tempura & it was spot on, as was the fried port cutlet my mom got. The only down side was the pork bone broth was too salty for us (but we don't like anything even slightly salty so we probably are not the best judge). Food & presentation were great (unfortunately we were so hungry that we dove straight in & started eating before we remembered to take pictures). Food came out quickly even though the restaurant was fairly full. I would definitely have to say the best part of our visit was the amazing wait staff. The two blonde ladies who waited on us were so friendly that I will be truly disappointed if I come here again & they aren't working. Even though they were quick to seat us it took about 40 mins to get our food. Ordered the ramen and it had a funny smell to it and I didn't like It. When I asked the waitress if I could send it back and switch it for something different she said yes but I still had to pay for the ramen. I was very disappointed I STILL had to pay for the stinky ramen that I didn't eat and wasn't going to order something different and wait another 40 mins for my food and pay for that as well! First of all, the waiting time was horrible. It was a little over an hour of waiting from the time we sat down. Second, the servers are very unprofessional. They told multiple people that they should just come back on a different day (it was a Friday). Third, I ordered ramen with boiled eggs because that's what my kids love the most with ramens only to find out that they ran out of boiled eggs but didn't inform us until after they had brought the food. However, they were able to serve an over easy egg on my husband's dish. I looked at the kitchen to see maybe they're understaffed, but during that time they have three cooks, one manager and three servers and the restaurant isn't that big. The manager who btw was actually nice came to our table and gave us three slices of pork as a replacement. The food was okay. Their plating needs improvement because it's not appetizing. Had Excellent takeout from here previously...favorite place closed, so ended up here. Took Forever(!) to receive order..busy place today, but still.... Anyway, pork choshu was good, a bit cold in spots. My wife's ramen looked great BUT it had a nasty chemical smell like melted electrical wire insulation, melted plastic toy army men - don't ask how I know that... :- ). Vince was notified, he brought a new bowl...my wife was famished by now, I was a cad, couldn't resist digging in; her replacement order was EXACTLY the same. When apprised of this, Vince hesitated- he wouldn't smell it, he balked at replacing it, mumbled something about he might have to throw them both out...he took it back and I asked for the pork choshu for my wife also. Shortly after, he grabbed his coat and took off out the side door with no explanation; his exit was so hasty he had other patrons- one guy near the door actually stood up to see what the commotion was all about- looking around to see what the fuss was. Derek (?sp) was very cool about all of it. He should be the mgr not Vince. He explained to my wife after getting her order someone put the plastic serving bowls in the dishwasher despite Derek's expression they should not. So that would explain why the plastic smell with 200 degree broth in them. Everybody was served in black bowls except us, maybe the white bowls r the problem, I don't know. Anyway, the tempura here, the eggrolls here, the garlic fried rice here- all fantastic. We'll b back, but if Vince is there we're going to be mighty suspicious of all he says. If Derek is there, we will have complete confidence our order will either be correct and delicious or will be made good somehow. 3 stars for the food we finally got, the service Derek provided and the "B" rating from KCPH. Looks like 3rd times the charm. This space was formerly BGF Asian Diner and before that, another 3 letter asian diner. I can't remember offhand. Both the prior restaurants always seemed so empty and I wondered how long they would last. The owners went in a new direction and it looks like Kamisama Ramen will be here to stay. My first visit was very early on. They hadn't even had their sign up or menus made yet. I would say just a month later they are now packed every time I go in there. I usually order for pick up and they tell me my order will take 45 minutes. It looks like they hired a couple of new servers but I think they need to hire more. Everyone looks busy and stressed. It was also very stuffy when I was there last. I'm not sure if there ventilation was bad or if they just didn't have the A/C going. I've only had their Tonkatsu and Shoyu Ramen. Both are quite good at a reasonable price. They do lack an egg that other Ramen Houses may include but you can add that on for an extra price. I think they just need a little time to dial in their staffing needs. Once they fix that, I think they'll be a success. read more

I used to love this place the staff were always fast to help you when needed and always watching for anyone who needed anything, i went about a week ago and i was disappointed with the young man who was the only sever. He was fairly slow at serving and getting his attention. Also i used to come here all the time and get soft boiled egg inside my ramen now when i come i am told that they give them how they come..... if i am paying 1$ for an egg i should be able to get it how i want like i used to be able to. Also my family asked for their favorite item on the menu the kamisama salad, the young man told him that the new chefs didn't know how to make it. That is just bad training, like if they can't make what is on the menu why have them work or why have them work without someone who knows how to make what is on the menu? I have seen this place at its best and unfortunately i feel its slowly going down hill, i will go back tonight with family. Hopefully we get what we want and hopefully all goes well. I'm not that picky either its just if its on the menu it should be able to be served and my family was disappointed with how they couldn't get their favorite item. No, just no. If you have had proper ramen then you will know this is not it. The way to eat ramen is if you can customize it to your liking. A basic bowl of ramen here costs 7.99 and comes with broth, noodles, bean sprouts, green onion, and 2 chunks of pork fat. Everything else (except garlic) will cost you extra. No veggies? No, even if you are willing to pay extra you cannot get carrots or mushroom or broccoli, etc. What about grilled shrimp or scallops? Nope. They have tempura (fried) shrimp (but it costs extra) or chicken, beef, and tofu. But for me, they really need to add veggies to their ramen at no extra charge. The noodles were good and if the broth was decent they could have redeemed themselves. Nope, it wasn't. My miso tasted like beef broth and my sons soy broth tasted like chicken broth. The garlic fried rice was pretty good, but a little soggy and the tempura appetizer was good. We were very excited once this place opened up, but sadly, we won't be going back. The ambiance was nice with nice decor. The service was ok. Our server didn't ask us if we needed anything and we had to ask for hot sauce etc. but he was polite and quick to bring things out. My friend ordered the portobello mushroom bento box but they brought out the rice bowl instead. She didn't want to make a fuss so she ate it, but they tried to charge her for the bento meal, which was $3 more, so she had to get her ticket corrected. I ordered the pan fried noodles with tofu and it was delicious and perfectly spicy. My friend ordered the egg rolls and they were hot on the outside but partially frozen in the middle. She returned them and they brought more out. However, she found small pieces of shrimp and chicken mixed in with the vegetables, which may not be an issue for most but she is a vegetarian. She said her portabello mushroom rice bowl was bland until she added some hot sauce, otherwise she was not impressed by the flavor. Her rice was also partially cold, but because she already complained about the egg rolls she didn't want to make another fuss. Another customer who was leaving, asked her how the egg rolls were and she said they'd be good when they're warm, to which he replied "yeah, I had to tell them to warm up my ramen because it was kind of cold". This place could be really good if they could work out some of the kinks we ran into and assure their food is hot upon serving. read more

I had never been here before so I decided to call in an order. The guy who answered was super nice! I had no idea what to get so he basically ordered for me. I wondered how the take-out ramen would be packaged or if I would get less in a take-out container. The noodles/veg were packaged in a secure bowl and the soup portion was packaged in a large container that they taped close and secured in another plastic bag (I clearly care about the packaging). My son and I decided to stop by this Ramen house after our trip to farmers market. We really enjoyed this place. We sat at the high top bar and ordered the miso Ramen with added garlic and spinach...it came with bamboo shoots, green onions, sprouts and other goodies. We also ordered the garlic fried rice which my son and I both liked a lot. The portion size was good for the price and everything was yummy. I really liked that who seemed to be management was walking around helping with service and talking to his kitchen staff to make sure production was going well, he was very respectful and nice to his staff. My favorite spot in Little Tokyo in Los Angeles for years has been a greasy spoon called Kouraku which specialized in late-night japanese fast-food. As such, my expectations are pretty middle of the road. I was thrilled to see a ramen-dedicated business in Bakersfield. I have been there twice now and have had the shoyu ramen and the tonkotsu ramen, both with extra chashu and boiled egg. I was pretty happy with the tonkotsu ramen in terms of taste and value, although the boiled egg seemed prett scrawny... Was wondering if they do extra stuff like curry and tonkatsu in ramen.. Yum. Will have to return to try their other dishes, including their donburis. Happy to have something in town! read more

First impression was not a good one!! Went to try them out after hearing they were okay ...and waljed up to the door to find another couple saying they would never come back ! I asked them what happened and they said ...they closed right when we were walking up!!! The hours do say 9pm ...why they closed at 7:30 is beyond me , but its definantely not good business!!!!
