It was a bad experience for me. When I got there, they told us that it would take 20 minutes to sit at a booth. Well, there weren't that many people waiting but we were so tired from a water park so we went for a side table. The waitress was okay. She forgot a glass of water once but no big deal. I ordered $11 shrimp tempura udon soup. I liked the salad and a soup that came with the entree. However the entrée itself was very disappointing. Shrimps were tiny. The breading tasted cheap. I've never had a bad experience here until today. Unfortunately I didn't spend Mother's Day with my son but I was able to spend time with my friend and her family. I offered to take them out to dinner and this was our place of choice. As expected the wait was long - who really cooks for Mother's Day? This typically isn't an issue for this location but being busy to me doesn't excuse poor service. The portion sizes were way smaller than if we sat at the hibachi table. My server rarely smiled except as we got toward the end of our meal. We ordered a kid's meal which came out AFTER the adult meals and his food was way too hot for him to eat - the only really hot food actually now that I think about it. I'm Not sure if it's possible to burn soup but our soups - miso and onion- looked like it had burnt pieces of something floating in them. It wasn't until I was ready to leave that I realized that my steak was overcooked. I guess with everything going on I didn't really think to care about the fact that it wasn't cooked the way I asked but it wasn't terrible. I asked for medium and got medium well. Our table took forever to get cleared. There was a point when I had to hold my food above the table after it was handed to me while my friend cleared space bY stacking the dirty dishes. This visit puts them at 1 star. However, because I know they can do WAAAAY better I'm giving them 4 stars. read more

I used to love coming here; however, this past month I decided to take my family here. They were from out of town and the Kani House is a special treat for them. We arrived shortly before 2 PM on a Saturday. We asked about lunch and we were told that we were in time for it. We waited for a table to be ready and was escorted to the table (where a couple was already sitting). When we reiterated that we were interested in lunch the hostess stated that we were too late because we hadn't been seated prior to 2 PM (although we were there prior to two and there was empty seats at the table where the couple was already sitting). The couple that had been seated prior to our party asked the waitress for the lunch Kani Special. The waitress said no lunch because they didn't order prior to 2 PM and it was now 2:03 PM (although no one ever came to wait on them despite them sitting there). When we asked about the difference in our place settings versus the other tables she said we had the lunch plates and she would swap them for the larger plates. The other couple were pretty upset and walked out. My party stayed and ordered dinner. The waitress made several sarcastic remarks to us during the meal. I also ordered the cherry blossom sushi (I specifically pointed to the sushi menu) and she brought me a cherry blossom drink, which I did not order and was not carded for. She made some remark about me not being specific and I should have stated sushi. I don't know what happened, but she never came back after this incident and she was replaced with another waitress, who was pleasant. The food was good, but the experience was tainted. It felt like my party and the other couple was delayed in ordering to prevent us from receiving the lunch prices, especially when we were both at the restaurant prior to 2 PM and the delays were by the staff. I had dinner w/my family on Sat 7/25/20 and was doubled over in pain w/in 2 hrs of returning home, 8 hrs later ended up in the ER at 5am with a CT Scan diagnosing me w/"infectious colitis" from food poisoning. I have to take massive amounts of TWO different antibiotics for 10 DAYS. 4 days later and I'm STILL in excruciating pain! I'm afraid due to reduced revenue corners may be being cut. I've then found out a friend ate here 2 wks ago w/his daughter and she got sick with food poisoning symptoms right after and was sick for 3 days. I've never been this sick IN MY LIFE!! read more

The Mr. drove all the way to Buford to do some shopping. We were starving and i was craving Hibachi so i looked up hibachi on yelp and the only place was Kani House. We saw the reviews and were like "eh...lets give this a try" The host staff was very friendly...greeted us as soon as we walked through the doors. We got sat at a nearly full table so it didnt take so long to get started. I ordered a frozen margarita and it wasnt too good... Now the dude that cooked the food dragged himself to the grill thingy and we were worried cos he looked a little depressed. He kinda got more excited as the cooking went on. Yes the appetizer was 2 shrimps....wtf...BUT everything was included like a previous review said....soup, salad and dessert(sorbet or vanilla ice cream). The fried rice made me want to LICK my plate clean. and the shrimp was heavenly. Im not a big fan of chicken and also by the time the cook got to that part, i was already full and i had finished my rice!! I love Kani House in Dawsonville. For my birthday I met family here in Buford for dinner on a Tuesday night. Though pleasant, our server (as well as the other one working) was quite frankly, high. He was pleasant & did a decent job. The problem was with Luis, the chef. He did hardly any "entertaining". We pointed out he forgot my dads seafood, but he blew us off. After he finished cooking everything else he finally acknowledged his mistake & cooked the scallops. He told my sister & I that "we could wait" for refills of yum yum sauce. We asked again, he acted like he didn't hear us. Finally when he was done cooking & we were done eating, we got the sauce. He may not have spoken much English, but as my 8 year old said, he obviously hates his job. So disappointing. read more

A guest and I went to the Kani House on Saturday night. We had planned to go to another place, but that place had a two hour wait! When I called Kani House, they only had a 10 minute wait. So, we went there. I had heard good things about the Kani House and hoped it lived up to it's reputation. Unfortunately, it feel short. The good aspects were the decoration and atmosphere. It felt very Japanese and looked the part too. Many of the staff were of Asian decent as well, which lent itself to a more authentic feel. For an appetizer, we ordered a Sumonono. It was a mixture of Sushi. It tasted fresh. The Giant Clam was very tasty. I was looking forward to a good meal with some great teppanyaki action. However, when our chef came to the table, he really just went through the motions. His skills with the instruments was rudimentary at best, flat at worst. Also, he had no personal connection with us. He was quiet and didn't offer much entertainment, even though we tried to egg him on by clapping at the little he was doing. I remember at one point seeing the chef behind him, who was highly entertaining, and thinking how fun it must have been to be at that table. As he continued to cook and I continued to talk with my dinner guest, we were constantly int erupted by their birthday celebrations. I have no problem with making fun of a birthday person and singing a song. But, at Kani House, they bring out a huge Japanese drum and beat it mercilessly to the tune of Happy Birthday. This was very annoying and felt out of place in a teppanyaki place. When our soup got there it was OK. Not great, not bad, just Ok. However, when we got our Fried Rice, I knew that the meal was going down hill. The saltiness of the food was VERY bad. I could hardly eat it. Since I ordered Scallops, which need to be cooked with care and very careful on the salt, given their inclination to tasting saltiness, I was concerned. And, I was right. My Scallops, which were cooked to the right texture, were almost completely ruined by the massive about of saltiness. Their portions were good, so much so that I left food on the plate as I left. But, that was also probably because it was seasoned so poorly. Had it been cooked right, I probably would have taken the remainder home. Over all, The Kani House tasted like a fast-food version of some of my favorite type of food, and that was a huge let down. My suggestion is, if you are looking for good teppanyaki, go elsewhere. read more

We were there celebrating my step son's birthday. He wanted Sushi, Gram had Tempura Shrimp, myself, hubby and the littles share hibachi meals. Fast forward to every one starting to eat, my husband and I just starting to dig in, idk what made me turn around (some of you know how much of a germaphobe I am), I turn around to see something crawling on the wall. I frantically ask my husband for his phone, I had no idea where mine was of course, he hands me his phone, I snap a few pictures. During this time, my husband had no idea what was happening. Once I snap the pictures, I fill my husband in, he jumps up and goes to the hostess stand to ask for the manager. There were two managers on the floor this evening, the female explained to my husband that apparently they spray weekly and that she would go talk to the GM about what the could do for us. My husband comes back to the table and tells me what the woman had told him. I tell my husband to start packing up and getting the boys to the lobby, the female manager comes to the table and we discuss what we were willing to pay for. Out of the 5 meals and drinks, I told her we would pay for the Sushi (he had eaten it all), Gram's meal (she had eaten about half if that), the two beers, and the soda. She told me she would go speak to the GM. As I am getting my two year old and his sippy cup, I look down the see the roach (or maybe a different one) on the chair my husband was sitting in. I look around the corner to call the manager back over, she makes her way to the table as I am frantically pointing to the bug, she quickly walks over to squish it. I head to the lobby with my two year old, leave all the kids with my 17 yr old stepson and Gram, head back to where my husband is standing with the managers, my husband turns around before I get to him with the receipt. I ask him what happened and my husband tells me that they won't comp a thing. I respond to him "oh fuck that", snatch the receipt and head back to the managers. "Here's what is going to happen, since you want to be a dick and not comp anything, we will not be paying for ANYTHING, I can also be sure to let all the patrons in this establishment know that you have roaches and show pictures, as well as seeing as I am in SAMC, I will spread the word on social media and you will lose a lot of business." The GM (male) responds "We are also apart of the club." I respond back, "Oh good, well then you both know how fast word spreads, you should tread lightly!" He says "Ya know what, I will take care of this for you, you can leave and don't come back." I turn around and tell him that I won't be returning. It took 2 hours to eat, including 20 minutes just to wait for our ice cream after them meal. The server did not write down the orders correctly, causing the chef a great deal of problems. My daughter complained about the long list of problems with the manager, but he never came by to talk to us. For the price of the dinners for 5, I would expect better service. My fiancé and I love this place! She loves the sushi and I usually get an entree. We have also had the hibachi grill which was delicious! What I love is that you can sit at a regular table and get so many amazing entrees too. Their steak fried rice is amazing and they used hibachi grilled steak! It is a new favorite. I've been to Kani House twice, and both times were fun experiences. Our cook was pretty impressive with his hibachi skills and left me wondering how he still has all 10 fingers on his hands based on how much flipping, slicing, and dicing he was doing. The food was great too. Among the five of us, we had the majority of the hibachi options, and nobody had anything negative to say about their food. We all thought the quality was solid, and the chef followed through with everyone's requests to a T. Good stuff. My only complaint is the very limited lunch time window. We came to eat at 2:15 on a Sunday and saw that lunch only went from 12-2. Bummer. They even said "enjoy your lunch" when we sat down, but it was dinner based on their times and prices. I think at least a one hour extension would be nice - who eats dinner at 2:15pm? Apparently we do. read more

My family and I like the food here, it's tasty. I do have a complaint about the portion sizes, which seem to be much smaller than other Hibachi restaurants. We came here for my birthday dinner and I ordered the Kani special, which is supposed to be chicken, steak, and shrimp. I even paid $3 extra for filet instead of regular steak. So my total meal was $27 just for myself. I received a total of 2 pieces of shrimp. TWO! My steak and chicken portions were okay, but the rice and vegetable portions were also extremely lacking. It was compounded when I looked over to the table next to me and saw that one of the gentlemen had ordered the same thing as me and received about 10 pieces of shrimp. So maybe it was our particular chef, I don't know, but I left the place unsatisfied and still hungry. Our meal total for my wife and two boys who ordered the kids chicken fingers was $87, so I definitely felt slighted. The service was just so/so as well, as I noticed that our server had dirty hands when dishing out our soups/salads and drinks. The food tasted good, but for the price we may try one of the million other hibachi restaurants in town before coming back here. read more

You always have a great selection of food to choose from, and the management always make sure you are taken care of. If you have big groups of people, you are accommodated. I haven't been to Kani House in over a year and a half I believe; however this is my favorite Japanese spot. I thought I should take the time to write a review as I used to frequent them at least twice a month. When I visit, I always get the Hibachi. The quality of food is excellent. My food is always well seasoned and the portions are very filling. Most times I have enough to take home for a second meal. My drink was always capped off and I never had to ask or establish eye contact for a refill. I love the staff at Kani House. I have nothing but good things to say about them. Marina was excellent- our rating does not reflect her. The facility is starting to show its age and seems run down; it's time for an upgrade. The hostess staff was very friendly but the bussers were slow to clear empty tables that resulted in a longer than expected wait time. My husband had sushi and he said was great! I come here weekly, literally I love rice and sushi!! Recently I developed a allergy to specific meats and now have to ask for sushi but without the "fake crab" lol. So today I awkwardly had to ask for the fish tempura roll, without the fish, my waitress laughed in my face.
