Tom yum soup was good. The right amount of kafir lime. Also had panang curry which was less sweet than other ones I have had but still good. Heat scale is 0-4. Glad I got a 2. I like spicy but not so much you can't taste it. Friends had Thai basil which looked very good. Might try that next time. Thai iced tea with lime was very good, very sweet. Something different. Service was excellent. Ambiance was nice.

It was a busy Friday evening. Our waitress, I didn't get her name, but she's a freshman at Duquesne. She was great. She was friendly and helpful, and despite being the only one waiting tables and checking out to go orders, she did a fantastic job. This was our 1st visit here and will not be our last. The food was amazing. Got the Yumtom soup, drunken noodles. Both had a flavor dance in my mouth. The decor is minimal and clean. I think this will be a new weekly stop.

I got takeout from here and unfortunately found the food to be rather disappointing. I ordered a wonton soup, pad see ew, and crab fried rice. The wonton soup did not taste like wonton soup at all. It had carrots and celery in it which I've never seen in a wonton soup before. The wontons themselves were tiny and not authentic at all. The pad see ew also suffered the same issue of not being authentic. Instead of Chinese broccoli, they made it with regular broccoli. Also, the noodles were much thinner than the wide flat noodles that pad see ew is supposed to be made with. The least bad thing I guess was the crab fried rice. The flavor was decent, but I couldn't find any actual crab meat in the rice.

I've had Thai food from many different places all over the country, but none of those other restaurants have flavor like Kanlaya does. If you are passing exit 38 or 39 on the PA Turnpike, do yourself a favor and take the five minute detour to Kanlaya, you won't regret it. If you like spicy food but actually want to enjoy it, get your spice level at a 2 or 3. My only complaint is that they never take the tails off of their shrimp.

We found ourselves in McCandles one afternoon, and we decided to check out Kanlaya after hearing their food is fantastic. We can during their lunch hour, so they didn't have their full menu, but their lunch options we awesome! We started with chicken spring rolls and Tum yum soups! The Tum yum had an awesome flavor to it, and was spiced perfectly (I got a level 4). The spring rolls were nice a crispy, and were the perfect thing to snack on before the main course. I got the Thai basil with chicken, which was served with a nice side of rice! It was a little oily, which I'm not sure is normal or not, but the flavor was delicious and tasted wonderful. My girlfriends mom got the pad see ew with chicken (drunken noodles) and she liked it as well! It wasn't the best Thai food we have had (or our favorite in the city), but this was a great spot for a quick lunch!

Great service. Placed order over phone. Done in a timely manner. Pleasant staff inside. Good portions and tasty food. Jungle curry was delicious just reminded me more of a soup than a curry. Did a #2/4 in spice and was pretty spice just the right amount wouldn't go above. Would definitely order from here again!

So disappointed with this experience. We love the food here, but we have repeatedly been hung up on or passed to voicemail when trying to place pick up orders. Today I tried to place an order over the phone but repeatedly got passed to voicemail and twice hung up on. Thinking I would just drive to the store and place my order I arrived and was told it would be an hour wait and when I expressed disappointment I mostly just got excuses. My faith is waning. read more

Just want to leave a short review on how awesome this place is! My wife has been trying to get me to eat here since before we were even engaged, but for me (because I have seen at least 3 restaurants come and go from that same very location) I was uninterested. Fast forward we are now in month 3 of Covid Quarantine and had absolutely run out of places in the area to try. I felt so stupid that I waited so long to try it. THE FOOD IS AMAZING. Generous portions and amazing tastes. I have really been branching out and trying new things (like curry). All of their apps stayed crunchy even in the togo box. The Covid situation has really affected a lot of places but these folks dont seem to have skipped a beat. They were super friendly and helpful over the phone. This is definitely a new regulation spot. Cant wait to go when the dining room opens up! read more

I've only had takeout twice. Also the only two times I've ever had Thai. Both times I've loved it! There's not a lot of broth, but damn do the noodles soak in the flavor. I've had the pad Thai and drunken noodle and have loved both. Good portion size for a decent price read more

Was fine. Went for lunch. Pad thai was average tasting, extremely large portion of noodles (probably too large since it was disproportionately all noodles and less chicken). One concern is when I was I putting the leftovers into a to go container I found a different kind of noodle mixed in at the bottom of my dish - I'm not sure where it came from and what that means for kitchen processes/cross contamination. I tossed the leftovers. Waiter was nice and attentive. read more

This place is awesome, ranks right up there with my other fav Thai restaurants in Pittsburgh. I feel lucky to have this in the North Hills. It's nothing fancy inside but it is BYOB and the service is excellent, maybe too excellent. Prices are good and the food is great. Only complaint I have is the spice levels seem to be a tad inconsistent. Safe bet to order low (1 or 2) if you are sensitive. read more

Based off takeout/Doordash, I ordered crab rangoons, Thai chicken wings, and Pad See Ew and they were all delicious! The crab rangoons were cute little purses of cream cheese and imitation crab served with sweet and sour sauce. I couldn't taste as much crab, but that's kinda standard for me anyways. The Thai chicken wings had a delicious sweet and umami glaze. Finally, the pad see ew was better than some of the other pad see ews I've had in Pittsburgh. Wasn't a fan of the chicken just the texture, but I didn't want to pay $4 for seafood. I'll try the beef next time. The sauce really is the important part. Perfect blend of salty and sweet. I didn't know the spice level they do so in the notes I asked for a 6/10 and it was a GOOD heat! Different from the spice at Noodlehead, but I liked it a lot. I also ordered the Thai iced tea and that was SO GOOD! Thanks for a great lunch today!! Will be ordered again. read more

Nice people. Never busy (sadly). Really good food. Hot actually means hot, if they ask a heat level, on a scale of 1 to 5 I would not take the 5. The soups, Tom Yum and To Kah are both awesome. It is BYOB, so plan ahead. read more

Went here for lunch several days ago with my co-workers. While the interior seems to have been recently updated it appeared rather bland inside. However, you come here for the food and it was great! We had noodles and pad Thai that was spicy to our choice of between level 0 - 4. The waiter was very attentive and courteous. Can't wait to go back! read more

This new place has potential. Pad thai was good. Asked for spicy and we got it! Nice!! Waiter was great. The only reason 4 stars wasn't given... If you ask for shrimp pad thai - you should get more than 3 shrimp in your "SHRIMP" pad thai. Buddy that was with me got 4 shrimp in his - lucky bastard! It would be good to remove the tails from the shrimp too. We will be back again. read more

Great to see a new restaurant in the area! We came here for lunch the week it opened for lunch and the food was excellent. I think there are a few opening week hiccups but the service and food had no issues. A good place for traditional Thai dishes. Don't be thrown off if the sign from the old place is set up! read more

For local Thai food, this place is easily one of the best in the area. Pad thai and Pad Woon Sen are fantastic. Service and covid precautions are great as well. Only thing we didn't live was the Wonton soup, but otherwise everything was really good. read more

I went there maybe a week and half ago for lunch and they weren't even open even though their sign said they should be. Went back for supper and I felt the food was mediocre and price too high for a smallish portion of Penang Curry Tofu. Prices, portions, and prices are better for the same item at Asian Kitchen in Shaler, my favorite place for curry. read more

Good solid 4.5 out of 5. Ordered Pad Thai noodles with chicken at a spice level of 2. Would order again, and might kick up the spice to 3 to see where that goes. My only complaint were that the rice noodles were a little bit gummy for my taste. They did a great job of remodeling the place inside to remove the remnants of the previous bad karma. Very clean and the waiter was very attentive. Recommend giving it a try. read more

Wow. Ordered take out from here 2 weeks ago and it was awesome. Dined in 1 week ago and again was great. Unfortunately stopped in last Friday and was really disappointed. The fresh spring rolls we got 2 weeks ago had changed completely. Looked like they took Giant Eagle salad bag to use inside and a piece of tasteless chicken on the bottom. One of our party had a hair in his food. They were nice enough to replace the meal but no concern. When asked about our experience I explained my disappointment. Response was 'Hopefully next time you come it will be better experience'. Sorry, first 2 experiences were awesome. What could have possibly gone wrong so quickly. Established in 2017.

It all started years ago when I was but a child. I grew up in a small village called Ban Donhard located in the province of Udonthani, Thailand. As a child, I help my family as much as I can, from farming to cooking. When I was in high school I decided to work in a restaurant as a part-time job. There I put my knowledge into uses starting out from a server and later became a chef. As I works as a chef, you learned how to select the best ingredients, how to prepare the ingredients and how to use the ingredients to it finest potential. Years pass and in 2009 my family and I moved to the United States. Here, we work as a chef from the acclaim Thai Thani to the best Thai restaurant in the South, Rice & Spice. Early in 2017, we moved to Allison Park and on October 10, 2017, Kanlaya Thai Kitchen was officially open. Our Chefs here have over 20 years of combines experiences and we guarantee fresh Authentic Thai Food.

The fish sandwich was the best part but I still wasn't wow-ed; I was also charged $1 for one slice of american cheese. I'm fine with paying extra for things, that just seemed excessive. The hush puppies and fries were clearly just frozen, and the fries were cold. For the price, I wouldn't come back here during lent but may visit the food truck at a different time to see the bigger menu.

I'm interested in trying their lobster rolls after lent is over!

I live in Las Vegas and my guy lives in this area (long distance). Well, we were with friends that my guy hadn't spent time with in a while, and this was my first time meeting them. Nice double date! 3 out of 4 of us got multiple drinks and we were enjoying our dinner. We got dessert too. The manager checked on us once. We probably stayed about 20ish minutes after desert while talking and finishing drinks. We got up and used the restroom, and saw the mgr in there. We heard her say that our table "finally decided to leave." Very unprofessional when you are sharing the same restroom as customers to then be talking about them. I'd say the same thing had she not been talking about us but another table. I have 20+ years in the hospitality industry and that rubbed me the wrong way. Food wasn't good enough to come back, so this is a place that relies on ambience and service, which we'd come back for if the service were great...be hospitable. The server was knowledgeable and kind; it's too bad the manager couldn't keep her thoughts about well paying, well tipping customers to an area where customers couldn't overhear.

Chicken on a stick was not available because she would need to make and sell it in large amounts. I ordered four servings of foods, and after several minutes, the owner gave them to me. I rate the meat samosas as 5 stars, and I am happy that the owner convinced me to order two servings. I rate the sweet plantains as 5 stars, and I want to point out that the serving size is enough for multiple people. I rate the wakanda braised beef with vegetables and rice as 4 stars. It tasted good but could use a bit more flavor. My husband had no interest in ordering any foods, but I really enjoyed eating my foods. I might never travel to Tanzania, so I am happy that my tastebuds got to go. :)

My husband and I love this restaurant. For those who are familiar with this area, please don't let the ghosts of restaurants past dissuade you from eating at Kanlaya. The owners have completed transformed this restaurant from a sad, worn, and dismal place, to a very clean, updated, and lovely venue. The wait staff is helpful and incredibly friendly and attentive. It is never crowded here (which is a shame for the owners but good for diners) but the constant stream of take-out orders indicates that people have discovered how good the food is here. My husband and I are almost addicted to the fresh rolls with shrimp but everything we have tried is delicious and fresh-tasting. I used to be one of those people that sticks to the the same-old, favorite thing at an Asian restaurant but given how good Kanlaya's food is, I have begun to experiment. So far, everything has been delicious. This place deserves more business!! read more

The quality of the food, I was told that the popular dish was Drunken Noodle (which is the best, very good.) or the Thai Basil, served with white rice, it is the best. The service was excellent, they check on the table every five to ten or so minutes to ask if I needed to get a refill for the drink, plus, it was a free refill for the sodas! Whenever I needed something, the server would quickly come to the table to ask what I needed, such as napkins, spoon, knife, extra plates or such. I am definitely coming back here. read more

Food is great, don't understand why others are complaining at all, I for one said that the light was very bright. A week later, they changed all the light bulbs in the restaurant. I'm amazed at how quickly they respond to a customer complaints and quickly adjust so that their services was great. But one thing for sure is that their food is always the best in the area. read more

Finally great Thai food out my way. I ordered to go & loved it so much i took my family in to eat the next day. Everything was better than expected. Love the drunken noodles and spice levels were spot on. We were able to adjust for smaller children that cant do spicy. Spring rolls were delicious and the curries were fantastic.
