This restaurant is everything New Paltz was missing, and then some. A real community spot, with a nice atmosphere, good vegetarian food, perfect location, and good people. It doesn't hurt that it serves some of the best vegetarian food around. I was shocked when I found out all the food I'd eaten was vegan - Even the cheesy pizza and potato skins. I had no idea vegan cheese could be so melty and delicious! I highly recommend making yourself a plate from their fresh and varied deli case, trying 3-4 different dishes, and having them heat the plate up for you. You can also take food to go. Their sandwiches are good but I think it's their deli case, featuring a rotating array of freshly-made dishes that can be eaten cold or heated up, that keeps people coming back. Some favorites: Pizza on a "crust" of steamed grains, roasted cauliflower, potato skins, stuffed tofu pockets, freshly squeezed juices. Oh did I mention that the vast majority of their food is wheat and gluten-free? They even use gluten-free tamari. (But make sure to check if you're gluten intolerant, some of their "wheat-free" stuff has spelt, which contains gluten). I love knowing that their food is largely organic, too. Despite not being vegan or vegetarian, I keep coming back because I love the food and I really want to support this place so it sticks around! read more

I work in a job where I'm driving up and down the thruway a lot and if I'm hungry around lunch time, this is my spot. I'm always greeted by the staff with a sample of their soup of the day and it often works- they are delicious! I love their sandwiches and making platters from the deli case. The staff is always willing to help and they do a wonderful job answering any questions or making suggestions. The space is not huge, but very cheery and sunny with plenty of room to enjoy your meal. There's a great selection of delicious organic vegan food. It may be a bit pricey, but I think it's worth every penny for high quality, healthy food on the go. read more

The veggie slaw was perfect texture and blend of mayo, excellent . The TLT with tahini and avocado was delicious. Wow! What a wonderful place to eat! We found this when driving along the Hudson. Excellent flavors and all natural so you don't have to worry about the food sources. We had the kale salad, tempeh rueben and falafel wrap. The rueben got the best votes all around but everything was yummy and good for the soul. They even let us bring our dog up onto the back porch while we ate. We also left the car for a few minutes to walk down to the river. Very relaxing and rejuvenating! Had two wonderful meals here, both we took to go, but they have a lovely outdoor seating area as well as a handful of tables indoors. I personally didn't care for the Reuben, but I loved the pesto on the tofu sandwich. I ordered the brussell sprouts, curry, and broccoli in one of their bowl options ( not a huge portion) but it was delicious. I went here today based on the great reviews that this place has... I bought the Reuben and Avocado Explosion both were bad choices as they had little to no flavor. The side slaw that it comes with was under seasoned and bitter. The only redeemable thing was the sweet potato biscuit with walnuts. The service was subpar- I stopped in at a slow time for them and thought this would be a quick spot as everything is bistro style. I was served the biscuit and then the sandwiches but the counter guy that served me forgot that I had ordered an extra side of the potato kale salad- half way through my sandwich I realized that I no longer wanted to have the potatoes as the meal was already a disappointment so I canceled. My two Vegan friends brought me here and I was extremely skeptical as I'm not vegan. I was surprised how good the food was. I now go here almost every week and order their TLT. The bacon substitute they use is outstanding. Their coleslaw is delicious and because I am lactose intolerant, I enjoy the fact I can order a smoothie and not worry about it. With so many great coffee options in New Paltz, I really don't understand how Starbucks can even stay in business...that said, Karma Road provides a fun, relaxing atmosphere to eat, drink, read, hang-out, stare at the people walking by... they serve very good coffee (although the latte was a bit pricey) and a mouth-watering vegan chocolate walnut blondie. I had a friend who moved to New Paltz about 7 years ago and I knew he was working at Karma Road when he went up there. I was stoked to finally get to New Paltz and try it out. I came with 4 other people, all first-timers. The food here is not good. None of us had more to say than "it's okay," but most of us settled on "bad." Not only is the food not good, it's expensive AND it's microwaved! I will never again pay a premium for mediocre (at best) food that is cooked in a microwave. I know vegetarians and vegans like to support local veg establishments and I can usually find a redeeming quality to tell people to pay a visit, but I can't think of one for this place, unfortunately. Upon seeing average rating for Karma Road, I was completely floord. I guess this is the best upstate NY has to offer in the vegan world? Charming little place just down from all the craziness on Main Street. The place is cute, and the selection of juices is fantastic. I only tried it the other day so the only thing I can refer to is an all green juice I bought which was great! Thing was a powerhouse! Reliable, good vegan food. It's a great place to stop and pick up sandwiches for the trail if you're going to Minnewaska. But, it is small and the wait can be long, even for takeout. It's definitely more of a lunch joint, even though they're open for dinner. Unless they rotate the menu for dinner - it's all pretty much veggie deli stuff and sandwiches/wraps. It's ALL good and the smoothies are amazing. They will make it with juice, soy or rice milk. read more

Plus people who are wheat free, yeast free, suagr free and vegan can have their pick of almost anything in the place (whereas in most restaurants, you are resigned to the salad section of the menu).
