I should of had the breakfast. Unfortunately I had the gyros and Greek fries. Wasn't a fan. The fries came with the usual feta cheese but were sitting in a pool of Greek salad dressing so they were soggy by the time I ate them. The gyros was drenched in the tzatziki sauce and was made of Greek dressing again. Everything was just tossed on top of a cold pita so I could only eat it with a knife and fork. After a hard night's camping, we were ravenous upon arriving at Kate's. And we left satiated :) I opted for the Gyro scramble, which was an excellent choice. Really delicious. So I want to add to my previous review on Katie's Greek and American restaurant on Colby ave. in Everett.it appears the first time must of been a fluke or maybe it was the young lady that waited on me was better at her job. I've been back twice since and have not been as pleased with my visits. First they both forgot my milk and second neither one checked back to see how everything was and if I needed anything. We came with a big group and the staff accommodated all 12 of us...great customer service and great breakfast! Today was my first time trying Katie's. I had a basic gyro and it was delicious. My friend ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast (Everyone at our table had a bite) and it was amazing, the best everyone at our table had ever tasted. Excellent example of the simple, family, cafe that is often so hard to find. The Strawberry preserve on the table is homemade, the excellent hot sauce is home made. Though the mood is very casual (seat yourself) the decor is actually very nice, with lots of local artists on the walls. The Greek influence is felt in several dishes, with Gyros in either a scramble or omelet, and obviously as a lunch choice. Everything we've tried has been good; well prepared, fresh, and delicious. Service is quick and un-intrusive, there's no life story or fake interest in what you're doing today, just prompt, professional service. Kate's deserves credit also for what it doesn't have: no stupidly sized cinnamon rolls that no human could eat. Portions here are reasonable, rather than absurd - you won't leave hungry, but neither will you be put off by a ridiculous mound of piled high carbs. Awesome service. The staff was very attentive and considerate. I have two children age 4 and 2. They have clean sterile toys that were brought to our table for the kids to play with. My wife thinks the hashbrowns are the best she's ever had. Thick strand crispy on top and cooked through. The food portions are enough to make you full and still have some leftover. I drive for Bellingham to Seattle quite often and I will take the effort to come off the freeway and drive here for all day breakfast. The food is basically American but the quality is the highest. Shredded hash brown potatoes cooked perfectly with very little grease. Real jam for your toast out of a serving jar instead of some prepackaged plastic tub. My Joes Special Scramble that I had today was perfectly done as well. I can't tell you about the coffee because I usually don't drink it, but I will say you can't go wrong with the food. read more

One Star. Eggs Benedict was barely cooked. Kate's menu had printed that they do not recommend to eat raw meat or eggs. Because of this, I assumed they would poach thier eggs atleast to where the whites are cooked. When I asked the waitress to bring me a side plate for my raw eggs, she came back with a spatula and wouldn't allow me to remove the eggs myself to have them cooked. She had a very bad attitude and told me that I should have ordered them well done. I did not want them well done or even Medium. I only wished to have them cooked where the whites of the eggs were no longer raw. When she scraped them off my plate she broke both of the raw eggs which looked like sunnyside up eggs without the whites cooked. She then put them in the microwave and brought them back to me well done! She offered to re-make them, but I declined since I felt she should have just ordered them in the beginning instead of scraping them off my plate to re-cook them. She looked me in the eye and said, Are you positive? Then brought me my check. She never offered to bring me another dish of my liking. I didn't eat the rest of the food either, the hollandaise sauce tasted like a powder, Very chalky tasting. Perhaps they made the mix especially for my order. The ham was dry and overcooked. They do not use canadian bacon. Nothing about this meal was fresh except for the raw eggs. The hashbrowns they serve are nothing special. Frozen hashbrowns from a store and fried in grill oil. The waitress was upset at me from the beginnning so I was not about to complain about the rest of my meal. I will not be back and I do not recommend eating breakfast at Kate's. I was expecting homestyle hashbrowns and friendly service. The waitress was more interested in selling her photography that lined the walls of this establishment in cheap poster like frames. I was hoping for good greek food since its in the name. The best thing about this place is the hot sauce, made off location by one of their relatives. I tried the gyro scramble. The eggs and other ingredients overpowered the meat. So my next visit i had the gyro sandwhich, it was tasty enough but the home fries were greasy like the oil wasn't hot enough. Third trip i had the chicken souvlaki which was seasoned well but the meat was extremely dry and tough. I had hummus and pita with it. The hummus came in a tiny little plastic sauce cup and looked like it had been that way for while. It tasted off like perhaps the plastic had leached into it & that it had been stored too long. I put some hot sauce on it. But it didn't help. So i smeared my pita with the side of tzatziki left from the chicken. Overall very dissapointed with the greek side of the menu. I will return for more hot sauce to go as they sell it for 5$ and maybe the regular breakfast menu as you can't really screw that up. So it was the day after a performance and I wanted to celebrate. It had been a long time and my previous gyro endeavors had been thwarted so my gf recommended Kate's as she is local ... Wow. I'm a huge gyro fan. and the gyros here ... are HUGE! I could barely finish!! Great atmosphere, clean, polite service. It has the feel of a greek joint from back home (Jersey) in many ways. We were even able to invite another friend out ... they held his food under the warmer until he arrived and poured him a hot cup of coffee. I had High Hopes reading some of the reviews about this restaurant, but was sorely disappointed. The omelet I ordered was grainy eggs, and tasted off for some reason. And the other meal we ordered which was eggs benedict, the Hollandaise sauce was just butter sauce. I cannot believe Ive never wrote a review for this place. Every time my husband and i are like, I don't feel like cooking, lets go to breakfast We go to kates. The Spanakopita is flaky and wonderful and we get it every time as a starter, no matter what time it is. The Greek fries are the best. Ive ordered them other places and always compare to kates, and nothing matches up. Somehow they are more lemony? More feta? More olive oil? I don't know, just fantastic. I don't get them every time, but when I do, it hits the spot. My husband and I usually share the gyro scramble. Its defiantly big enough for two, along with the Spanakopita . My daughter always gets the kitty pancakes. Pancakes with a kitty smiley face. Also, they have big buckets of kids toys, just got to know where to find them. So my 6 year old entertains herself with little toys till we eat. A total A+ that my hubby and I get to just enjoy our coffee. The homemade hot sauce is the best. Everett has a scarcity of good breakfast restaurants, but Kate's rarely lets people down in the cafe food department. They close at 3PM and have pretty much the same menu all day long. Too bad zero stars are not a choice! I came here with a friend hoping to have a nice lunch...didn't happen. I ordered a BLT on sour dough. The bread came out stone cold and partially burned. I told them the bread was cold, they took it back and the same bread came back, slightly heated but still not warm. The bread was thin and not soft and very unappetizing. A Diamond in the rough! This place is well worth the trip to downtown Everett! Used yelp to look up mom and pop breakfast places. Thought it sounded weird to have breakfast at a greek place but glad I made the trip. Customer Service is the first thing I have to talk about. Its hard to find great customer service which is one thing that will set this place apart. It's seat yourself but they are quick to clear tables. Water came as soon as we sat down and they even brought water in a sippy cup for my 1 year old! Coffee refills without asking. We didn't have to sit around and wait for our check at the end of the meal. Price is great for the amount of food you get. We saw people bragging about the gyro scramble and country fried steak...so thats exactly what we got. Both plates lived up to the reviews. Hot sauce was awesome! FYI:They do charge a split plate charge of 1.00 which is great. Most places charge 4.00 or more. They will not charge split plate charge if you are sharing with a child. 4 meals for around 40.00 bucks. Will come back and will tell you its a must! We will be telling our friends! read more

We're new to the area and are trying different restaurants and because my favorite food is Greek, we gave Kate's a go. I was thrilled that I could get a veggie scramble with feta. It was delicious. My kids had biscuits and gravy, french toast with sausage and eggs. Both cleaned their plates, which is their way of saying delish! The new wait staff was aweful. We were ignored for 15 mins before getting a menu or water. When our water got to us i asked the waittress if we could place our order. She said "no, there are people ahead of you.". She proceeded to take orders from people that arrived after us. After being at the place for 50 mins i let them know i had to return to work. I had to inform the owner my food was not ready and needed it to go i waited another 10 mins only to get the wrong order! i finally got my food after more than an hour wait (the restuarant was not very busy).
