Nothing I hate worse than a seating hostess making you wait when there are open tables. And especially when they are rude. Bad start.

My family hadn't been to Katie's Kitchen in a while and thought it would be nice to celebrate Mother's Day there. We had a reservation at 9:30, sat right away and ordered at 9:40. When we were seated we were told there was a 75 min table limit. Unfortunately, at 10:45 we still had not received our food and looking around the restaurant, no one else had either. We asked the waitress how much longer it would be since we had my 1 year old hungry son getting antsy and she said, not sure maybe 10 more minutes? We decided to leave because that did not sound promising and my parents decided to stick it out until 11:15. At that time the kitchen had still not put out any food. There was a line of people out the door who they were seating at tables after customers were leaving without eating. To do this to that many people on Mother's Day is shameful and unbelievable. We will never be dining there again, as there are many other great breakfast options that actually care about feeding their customers. Disgusting. read more

Beware of horrible customer service, management and owners who do not care about their customers and cooks who cannot make correct orders. One occasion I ordered an omelet in restaurant that came out completely black on one side and was soaked in old grease. Took one bite into it not knowing what the bottom looked like and almost threw up. Only thing they could offer me was a new omlete which I did not desire at all. Another incident was a pick up order where we attempted to order strawberry banana pancakes but they said they did not have strawberries. Decided to order a breakfast sandwich with sausage instead. Got back home with a breakfast sandwich that had no sausage and came with a side of strawberries! Called back and management did not care what so ever that they completely got the order wrong offered a $1.50 credit even tho sausage on their menu was $3.50. read more

I love this place! Katie's Kitchen has delicious, fresh food. I go here for lunch or breakfast at least once a week. The salads are HUGE and every ingredient is high quality. The omelette's are very good as well. It is a family owned place and the staff couldn't be more friendly. If I have to give one complaint, it is that they have occasionally run out of items on the menu. Also, I have taken a few items to go which don't seem to travel well. There are baked goods sold at the counter which I have enjoyed a couple of times. It is mostly an "older" crowd and it can get very busy around lunch, but usually not much of a wait. Came in with my mom at 2:00, they close at 2:30. The unfriendly hostess sat us and very rudely said, " hurry up and decide what you want before the kitchen closes." She then said it again to 2 more people who came in a few minutes after us. We quickly ordered,ate, and we're about to pay when the music shut off. It was 2:20 and the hostess was very clear that she wanted everyone out, even those who's food was just delivered to their table. I understand that you want to go home and that you close at 2:30 but I have never seen a restraunt treat their patrons so rudely. We told our waitress and she said that people complain all the time but because she's the boss's mom, she can't say much. I have really enjoyed this place in the past, but my last visit was very disappointing. The potato nest was sloppily made and hardly had any bacon. It also was lacking any real flavor or seasoning. The cinammon swirl tasted like a microwaved dish. Not sure what happened on this day. read more

I've been here many times and enjoy the crepes. What I don't enjoy is being told I should leave when I walk in at 1:30pm because the kitchen closes at 2:00pm. Lady at the front desk should take a class on customer service. read more

Normal wait time , no problem. Order came out with potatoes instead of order hash browns quickly remedied. Bus staff coming over multiple times within 2 minutes of being served asking I if we were done , one minute later asking if I want a box to go, I replied no and he brought I it anyways. General push to get us out the door ASAP is not acceptable . Won't be back soon read more

Every time I go to Katie's Kitchen I am sorry that I did. The food is good, but the hostess is so damn rude, I vow never to return and give her any of my business. I know other locals that live in Des Plaines and Mt. Prospect told me they feel the same way. She treats you like a number, or like cattle when she seats you and takes your money without thanking you at all for your business when you pay your check upon leaving. It is like a cold, hard business transaction for her. We went for lunch and had the Cobb and Goat Cheese salads which were good and fresh. The waitress was cordial and efficient. The owner drops off a patty melt on burned to blackness toast? Really? Why would she have served that? After having to flag down the hostess to take it back, owner brings it another one back and says "here you go" instead of "I'm sorry?" Absolutely ignorant. Service is horrible. read more

Met a couple of friends here for breakfast this morning and I cant stop thinking about it. Just your typical breakfast joint but the food was phenomenal!!! Service was fast and friendly. I had the skirt steak and eggs and as the poster above stated it was absolutely the best I've ever had!! A Friend let me try her spinach scramble and that was just as good. So, we've been here 4 times so far. The last 3 of the 4 times we've been placed in the exact same booth, co-inky-dinkily. Odd because this is a big enough restaurant, as it has two rooms. Not a big deal, just saying it's odd. It's also in a strip mall. The menu here is large. They offer lots of different things for breakfast which you wouldn't find in a typical breakfast place. I've had the sticky pecan French toast which came with ham. They take a whole sticky bun, cut them into thirds and soak them in an egg batter and griddle them. Then they include more sticky "sauce" in a separate container along with a ton of pecans on top of the toast. The sauce also works well on the ham slice of ham. Delicious!! The last time I came with my husband, I ordered their "fields" scrambler. It's basically a veggie scrambler with mozzarella cheese and it comes with their homemade salsa. It was pretty good. My husband had the 2x2x2x2, which was the 2 bacon/2 sausage links/2 eggs/2 pieces of caramel apple French toast special. The meal was fine; everything came out as ordered and was cooked well. The only problem I had this particular time was our server (yes, Ms. Rod Stewart wanna-be, I'm talking to you!!). Usually I'm not picky on service, I mean you get my food to me and refill on the coffee, and I'm happy. This last time though, the waitress brought us our food and everything, but upon refilling our coffee was when the problems started to arise. Halfway through our meal she asked us if we would like to refill on the coffee. We politely responded "Yes, thank you." Barely saying 'thank...' and she whizzes over with the carafe and starts pouring. She refills my cup and I notice she is pretty close to swiping my food with the carafe. So she starts to refill my husband's cup and I see she literally brushed off all the caramel apples from his plate of French toast with the bottom of the carafe. UM, GROSS. Look lady, it's not that hard to pour coffee, jeebus!! Then she left, and I was grossed out but my hubs was like "well I guess I didn't see it so it didn't happen" kinda thing so we (he) let it be. A minute later she came back by our table and saw that we were still at the halfway point to our meal and I could see she debated about dropping off our check though we were nowhere near done. So when we finally finished our meal she came by and dropped off our check and cleared the table. She asks "Did you want another refill on coffee??" and walked away. She didn't even wait to hear whether we wanted coffee!! Turns out well yes, I did want more so we had to flag this lady down for more which took another few minutes to get her back. Not sure why she bothered asking if she had no intention of refilling. Anyway all in all, go for the food, but be weary of Ms. Stewart. Too bad, this should have been a 4 star place... read more

Best brunch spot! Service was delightfully served with a smile! All staff were friendly! Upon entering, there were cupcakes in a little cooler. That definitely assured that this is no ordinary brunch and there was going to be more of those special touches that make this place unique! The food came out fast! The garden nest hit the spot. The hash brown coating was well done and crunchy!We had asked for some more veggies and was provided for a couple more dollars. The pistachio crepes were ordered off the specials menu. It was an interesting combo with pistachio cool whip and topped with strawberries. Our meal came with a side and we chose pancakes over toast. We had a few minute wait and got seated at the booth by the kitchen and every plate coming out was mouth watering and that consistency really impressed us, especially given how large the menu is! I would give them zero starts if i could! The hostess who s also the owner is extremely rude and treats you like yesterday s garbage! I ve been coming here for years but this time i am done! A few months ago me and my friend came over for bfast on a regular weekday, the order came put after 35-40 mins with the lame excuse that they had a party and the kitchen was backed up.... Today we went there again and we were seated by their little dish station which was VERY LOUD when they were taking or bringing silverware or glasses... The order came out again very very late, it was cold same as the toast! The waitress came by and asked us if everything is ok but talking to someone else at the same time (i guess she takes it after her mom- the hostess- who s also very rude!) When we let we told the hostess about our concerns and all she did was say "sorry,that s always like that on a Sunday"- like she really didn t care that we were unsatisfied, and all this time she rushed to have us charged so we could leave! When I sat down my cup for coffee had lipstick marks on it. I asked for a different cup it had lipstick marks on it. Food was terrible. Potatoes tasted like they were reheated and my hollandaise sauce had "skin" on it like its been left out for awhile. Completely disgusting. read more

I would never go back to this place. The staff is extremely rude and treats you like yesterday's garbage. These people have no regard or respect for their customers. The food is ok; nothing to write home about. The waitress didn't check on us even ONCE after the food arrived. We complained to the manager and this woman could care less. The old David's Bistro has been converted into this breakfast/brunch spot. Two plainly decorated but spacious rooms allow for quick seating. Coffee is on the weak side and the servers need to tend to refills more readily. Tiny banana muffins are complimentary. Nice touch but they were dry and stale. Scrambled eggs were ok accompanied by fried potatoes with onions and toast or pancakes. Asked for plain potatoes and had a $1.00 up charge meaning more money for no onions. Decent raisin toast goes well with eggs. Overall this is a mediocre breakfast venue. read more

Solid food here. Ingredients seem fresh from a visual standpoint. Lots of places probably have pre-sliced veggies and whatnot but not this place. You can actually see variance in the diced potatoes and vegetables. No mass production, "cookie cutter" preparation methods here. The menu is gigantic, like most diners, and there is a lot to choose from. Some things include classic breakfast fare like skillets and pancakes to lunchtime options like sandwiches and entree plates. The specials menu is always a good route to take if you can't choose from the extensive menu. In addition to delicious food, you can step up your experience with booze! I've seen signage for beer buckets and mimosas so that's a plus in my book. Katie's Kitchen is a modest sized place and can get pretty packed. Came here on a whim with a friend (after checking a few Yelp reviews) and I am so glad we did! The restaurant is very 'mom and pop' - located in a pretty generic strip mall off Wolf Road. The service is quick, efficient, and friendly. The menu is large, with a lot of different fresh options. I went with the green eggs benedict (english muffins, pulled pork, perfectly poached eggs, salsa verde, and a side of breakfast potatoes) and my friend got the vegetable scrambler with toast. Her's looked very tasty, but mine was AMAZING. The salsa verde perfectly complimented the eggs and pulled pork, and was a lighter alternative to a heavy hollandaise. The roasted potatoes on the side were also totally on point. And our waitress was friendly, as were all the other staff (frequent coffee and water refills - I normally don't drink coffee, so after like 4 cups, I pretty much vibrated my way out of there). My friend and I lingered over our food for nearly two hours, catching up and gabbing (she's leaving for an out of country trip for more than a month, so we wanted time to hang out) - and the staff was all super nice and never rushed us. We made sure to tip our waitress handsomely, as we had held one of her tables hostage for so long.
