The decor, food, and service were awesome! Me and boyfriend were greeted promptly when we got there and seated in a cozy booth. There were families and all generations of customers enjoying brunch when we arrived. The menu is expansive and unique. We both ordered off the specials menu and were so pleased. The vegetables were crisp and cooked perfect, potatoes crispy, and eggs just right. The portions were a little large but I still finished my plate. This place is awesome for someone looking for healthier options. However, their monthly specials are always delicious. They're so good that I wish the items were on the normal menu. Today, for example, we had a Superbowl Breakfast Bowl. It was a sour dough breakfast bowl filled with scrambled eggs, Philly steak meat, green peppers, grilled onions, mushrooms and white american cheese. We also split the Nutella Stuffed French Toast: challah bread filled with Nutella, fresh strawberries and bananas, dipped in egg batter and grilled, topped with strawberry sauce. This is a cute little breakfast/lunch place that I've passed probably a thousand times and never thought to check out until today. My brother and I wanted to get breakfast but not at a chain place. We looked at yelp and my brother mentions Katie's Kitchen. The place is cute and cozy when you walk in. It was full of people, but we were still able to get a table pretty quick. I ordered the bacon and cheddar scrambler while my brother ordered the meat lovers skillet. Both meals were really good. My brother really wanted a side of the toasted pecan roll, so we went ahead and shared that, too. There were so many food options, it made choosing a meal quite difficult. this place was packed! went with my family who lives in the area for brunch. everything looked amazing! worth the wait. great local place with very friendly staff. we were served by Katie and she should be very proud of her establishment. this is a new spot I have to come to when I am visiting my family again. my sister and I shared two dishes, the corned beef hash with eggs, southern potato nest ( country fried steak with gravy and cheese on top of a bed of crispy hashbrowns) and the peanut butter banana stuffed French toast for dessert. everything was delicious and we were content and full after our meal. read more

The best breakfast spot I have found in the Chicago area. I had read the Yelp reviews and was anxious to try but somewhat pessimistic as it is hard for a breakfast place to differentiate itself in the land of pancake houses. Katie's did a great job, though. I had a scramble with bacon, ham and sausage and was much better than any meat lovers scramble I have had anywhere else. The crisp bacon gave it a really nice flavor and texture and the sausage was integrated well rather than over powering the dish. I was also happy that I could substitute pumpkin pancakes as the side instead of the normal pancakes. made for a much more interesting breakfast. I read about Katie's Kitchen about a month ago on Yelp. I happened to be in the area around breakfast time, so no better way to try it than for breakfast. I went with the 2x2x2x2 special for June. (eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes). I also had a side of the original hash browns. It was very good. Everything was fresh and cooked just right. I normally get the shredded hash browns, when I eat breakfast, but wanted to try their originals. The hash browns were very moist and full of flavor. The eggs were cooked just right. The bacon was very good and high quality pork. The sausages had nice flavor. I opted for the regular pancakes and they were good. The people were very nice and the service was quick, but not rushed. I saw they had few tables outside. I may try that approach next time. The interior is your standard restaurant style. Nothing special, but very clean. I will be returning! read more

I'm a bona fide city-dweller. So when I found out my sister was coming in from out of town for a 1 day conference out by O'Hare, I (of course) immediately came to Yelp for help in finding us a brunch spot in the 'burbs on a Wednesday. I found Katie's Kitchen and we decided to give it a shot, we were NOT disappointed. First off, there were tiny little delicious muffins on the table when we sat down... I couldn't really figure out what kind they were (it seemed like a touch of blueberry with a slight almond flavor, topped with powdered sugar). They are perfect little bite for us folk who arrive hungry! She got the crab cake benedict and I got the salmon panini (one of the daily specials with salmon, mozarella, capers, lemon butter, pesto, tomato and onion ), both were awesome! Not to be too much of a "city snob" but I didn't know there was any good brunch spots out in this neck of the woods and I was pleasantly surprised. It was very cute inside, and they had lots of delicious things to choose from. If I'm ever back in this area, I will definitely check out Katie's again. This place is a hidden gem in the surburbs. One of my most favorite places to go for brunch. I like how they change up the specials for skillets and specialty pancakes. The dutch baby pancakes are amazing. I've also had the apple cinnamon cobbler pancakes and they were fluffy and delicious with baked apples on top. My fiancee enjoys the skillets there. The nice things about this place is that you can upgrade your pancakes to a specialty pancake with a small additional charge. We've been to Katie's twice now, very good! Went on Sunday's both times. First time, no wait. Second time, only 15 minutes. Serve is ok, but not horrible. They are just busy ladies and are trying to get it all done. The food is really good and they give you a lot! The cheese blintzes are good but could use some more filling. The corned beef hash & poached eggs is really good. Scrambles are excellent. My husband got the Italiana sausage, red pepper, and mozzarella, very good! Love that you can get toast or a side of pancakes, their pancakes are very good and light. We will be back with family & friends. read more

I cannot remember the last time that I had posted a bad review, or even one that deserved minus(-) stars! But today I had made a horrible decision to visit Katie's Kitchen-I had seen it on Chicago's Best a while ago, and figured why not? My son and I had decided to spend some time together, as he had moved out recently!! This place makes me ashamed to know that Marley Kaden had chosen it to be on best breakfasts-but you don't know until you go there!!! From the minute we entered Katie's Kitchen, my son and I got a bad bad vibe from our waitress -"Courtney" She was disrespectful, contentious, and just plain rude!!! We should have walked out right then and there, but alas I did not pick up on my son's grimaces and body language - we continued to be treated liike s__t, by this young woman!!! First my coffee was cold! Second she took about 10 minutes to come back to take our orders!!!! Then she ignoreD my son when he ordered a "Feta Scrambler", took my order- I asked for sugar free syrup with my pancakes, and I then told her my coffee had been cold, and asked for a new cup and "Hott" coffee- to which she brought a pot of tepid coffee, my food - with regular syrup- not the diabetic sugar free, and brought my son an order of toast, but not his "Feta Scrambler". Stupidly we ate waiting for his plates to come, but when asked where his food was, she pretended to play "Stupid", and said she never heard him order any food!! Then why would she bring his "9 grain" toast- which was part of his order, as she had asked him what he wanted with his food!!!! Enough already, I asked where the owner wAs to which Courtney replied that she was not present! Now, just so you should know, I am extremely hard of hearing in both ears(due to a severe head injury), but I heard my son clear as day as he gave her his order!! By this time(20 minutes after we had ordered and I had started to eat), we were so infuriated that I stopped eating out I of DISGUST with this person, and how she intentionally treated my adult son with mean, rude, and disgenious behavior , that I paid the bill and left- fuming and ANGRY!!!!! Next time- we will go to Mr. Allison's on Central Rd, about 5 minutes away where the food is Great, the coffee is HOT, and the owners are there for every hour, every day that they are open!!! I've lived in the neighborhood for 5 years and this was my first time to Katie's. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG?!?!? This place is amazing! Yes it's in a strip mall but the inside is a lot bigger than I expected. And there's a fire place which looks super nice! The menu is huge. I looked at it for a good 10 minutes before our waitress came to take our order and I still had no idea what I wanted! Everything looked and sounded amazing. My husband had the special breakfast burrito which looked and smelled amazing. I had the crab cake Benedict which was amazing and the red potatoes that come with it, yum! We also decided to split a Dutch baby which I haven't had since I was a kid and he had never had. OMG WAS THIS THING AMAZING!!! A million times better than I remembered! My mouth is watering just thinking about it...... We will definitely be going back! Oh and our waitress, I think it was Mary, she's great! Stopped by for breakfast on a Saturday. We ordered the camp fire pancake 30 minutes before we arrived and hoping it would be timed right with our meal as it take 40 minutes to prepare and cook. We arrived and as usual there was a 25 minute wait. After our 25 minute wait for a table we were seated and ordered and they immediately brought the pancake as it was ready. We then waited 45 minutes for the rest of our food. My timing was bad and I obviously ordered it too early. I actually thought if you took the time to order ahead they might seat you when your pancake was cooked but I was wrong. The waitress was very nice but not much she could do. She kept apologizing . When the skillet and link sausage finally arrived it was ok but they forgot to bring the pancakes. The reason for the two stars is that when I mentioned the delay to the manager/possibly the owner woman at the front desk she explained that they were down a cook and also had one new cook in training on the line. All of this is understandable but she said it in such a way that it didn't seem like an honest apology or that she cared much about our experience. Kind of if you don't like it fine, we have other customers here and don't need your business anyways. She just seemed like one of those "my way or the highway" kinds of restaurant owners/managers. As we left I also mentioned not getting our pancakes with the skillet and she said huh and looked down not to be bothered again. This is my fourth visit here and I think we will find a better place next time. Just didn't have a customer friendly feel at the front desk and if I owned this restaurant I would hire someone more friendly at the front. The wait staff was very nice however. read more

But I asked twice for the salad to not be put with my hot burger or hot sandwich and the lady gave my boyfriend attitude when he wanted to make sure they didn't do that again, rudely ensured him that they never box the two items together yet they did. Was there for lunch today had a BLT and fries. The place is very cozy and nice place to meet a friend, take a date or just hang out with family. Very quick and friendly service with a smile! My BLT was fantastic, very fresh lettuce and tomato, the bacon was thick and plentiful. I will have to come for breakfast one day. The french fries are made fresh from "real" potatoes!! read more

I was nervous after reading the reviews about the rude service, but the wife and I gave them a try anyway. And I am glad we did! The service was just fine! Had us wondering how much was perceived by the other reviewers versus reality. Everyone from the hostess to the waitress to the busboy was friendly and helpful when needed. The real story here though is the food. It's awesome! They start you off with a mini-muffin appetizer, which was a nice surprise. My wife ordered the 2x2x2x2 and said it was perfect. I was a bit more adventurous and ordered the Campfire skillet. This is pulled bbq ribs (yes, ribs!) with eggs over a bed of home fries. Pure Awesomeness! Ribs people! For breakfast! Who would have thought?! Everything tasted great and was reasonably priced. We'll be back for sure! read more

i really wanted to like this place because it was so close to my house, the old lady in the front was a complete ass, when she tried to place us in the corner next the fire place in a half both, when the entire restaurant was empty, I simple ask for a different table and the old lady got such an attitude and said "sit where ever you want" while rolling her eyes. I got a little upset because she was acting like she was doing us a favor by allowing us to be customers. The food was aweful, it was like the bacon was cooked earlier n the day and sitting on the stove, it had 0 flavor and the potatoes were so saturated in oil that I didn't finish. My family asked to go there one more time which was yesterday and I have to say it's getting worse. I predict that this place will be out of business in two years, for a couple of reasons, 1. The old lady who acts like there are no other breakfast places in Des plaines has the worst attitude, even after complaining the food sucked she just brushed us off. 2. The food sucks, they should worry about quality. Yesterday is the last time I'll ever go to this place, I'm not going to spend $40 to eat garbage. Do yourself a favor and go eat at McDonald's, it will be cheaper and will taste better. Advice to Katie's kitchen; Get rid of the nasty old lady in front and replace you cooks with someone who is a short order cook. There must be 12 other breakfast locations around your area so quit acting like your doing someone a favor. Restaurants come and go but once you piss off a customer they will never comeback. People don't forgive restaurants especially after eating tasteless food. Ps. The waitresses were great, it's only the awefull food and the crazy lady in front. Yummy! Katie's Kitchen has large portions and the food is very comforting. The interior is a little old and and the place isn't too big but I liked the really warm fuzzy feeling it gave off when you stepped inside. Our server was so nice and attentive to all our needs. I ordered a spinach and artichoke egg benedict and it was really flavorful. The artichoke was so good and it almost tasted like it was charred on a grill. So good for vegetarians! I'm usually disappointed with breakfast places, however this place was excellent. Coffee is fresh, vegetables with my scrambled were cooked fresh and my pancakes were light and fluffy. My girlfriend ordered the chicken scrambler, which is chicken, asparagus, mushrooms, swiss cheese?, and deliciousness. Can't remember what was in her food but it tasted great. I had scrambled eggs with chorizo, asparagus and swiss cheese. Can't end this review without mentioning the outstanding service, friendly host so early in the morning and coffee right away. this simply pertaining to the catered food. the mac and cheese was dry and had no cheese on it. it was basically noodles with a hint of cheese. no seasonings at ALL! chicken parmesan was atrocious. the chicken was burnt up and one of the patties was raw and clucking inside. the lemon chicken was bland and had too much lemon. the penne pasta with red sauce and no meat had more ricotta cheese than sauce. the only thing good was the bread and butter. salad is salad so no complaints there. it could have been way better. If you love oatmeal, then this is the place for you. They have four different types of baked oatmeal. My "go to" oatmeal is the one with cherries, macadamia nuts, bananas and brown sugar. Sooooo good. This morning I went with 2 girlfriends who had never been. They each had a seasonal special - one ordered the pumpkin pancakes which came with a spiced apple topping on the side. The other ordered the baked acorn squash stuffed with cranberries and other goodies, along with eggs & ham off the bone. Of course, I ordered my "go to" oatmeal. We all tried some of each other's dishes and all agree this is one of the best places in the 'burbs for breakfast. To be fair, I have been there for dinner once and was not impressed - very plain menu. I really don't know why I am writing a review for this restaurant. Word has spread rapidly and this place is busy enough! (Really the wait is never bad and well worth it.) I have yet to have a bad meal here and I go at least weekly business lunch or late Saturday morning breakfast. Treat yourself to the $1 extra shredded breakfast potatoes - the regular red potatoes are great but trust me on this one! Also try the raisin toast. If you have time, they have any specialty pancake you could want. Lunch selections - the soup and 1/2 sandwich is wonderful. If you are really hungry try the corn beef! There is something for any taste or dietary restrictions. I prefer to get breakfast for lunch most times - awesome omelets and amazing eggs Benedict. While some complain about the service, being a frequent flyer there and on a lunch schedule, I always get in and out in plenty of time. I had a southwest egg white scrambler that had chicken sausage, cilantro, fresh tomato, and cheese along with a black bean and corn salsa. Delicious and healthy. My husband had the breakfast baked flatbread, which was more like a breakfast mexican pizza and he finished the whole plate he enjoyed it so much. Our waitress was friendly and fast. This morning is the first time I visited this location and I was very pleasantly taken aback. The decor is SO adorable, a warm fire was going on this snowy morning and the smell of fresh coffee permeated through the restaurant. We were greeted and seated promptly and EVERYONE working was welcoming and friendly. Our server Mary was incredible....friendly, attentive and smiled the whole time we were there. My husband is a picky eater and a "big guy", he ordered the steak skillet. Everything came out quick and hot. He said it was done perfectly with his steak served medium just like he ordered and all the veggies nice and fresh. The servings were so big that we had leftovers to bring home. I had the Denver omelette with the side of potatoes and onions that was also very good with plenty to bring home later. Having frequented the other breakfast places in the area, I believe Katie's Kitchen is excellent in terms of food, service and decor! We will be back. read more
