Food was great! Service was non existent. Our waitress took our order and never returned. We had to go up to the bar for refills, condiments, etc. I asked the bartender if she left and she said in a frustrated voice that they were very busy. This was not apparent. We had tables all around us empty. I did talk to the manager and expressed my frustrations and concerns. We really did enjoy the food. The service ruined our overall experience here.

Here on vacation with my boys staying in Honolulu, decided to go out for breakfast and try out this spot since it's right next to our BNB. Absolutely phenomenal place, food was 10/10, music, ambience, and staff were amazing. Very clean, welcoming, and relaxing environment. We paid $65 WITH tip for all 3 of us to get breakfast and the portions are plentiful. Def get your money's worth! If you're in the area I definitely recommend stopping in! (Cinnamon Churro Waffles w/ strawberries & blueberries, whipped cream and syrup)

first off we walk in, nobody at the host stand so we wait a little bit to sit in an empty restaurant which is fine. we get seated and we're told we have 10 minutes to order breakfast. cool! but we sit there ready to order for like 15 minutes, watching our server walk back and forth seeming unsure of what her job is. diva what are you doing?? she comes back with coffee and a box of creamers which are literally hurled at us, creamer everywhere, and proceeds to take our order. another 15 minutes go by and our food comes out. yay! my brother's food was missing bulgogi which he couldn't even eat because we had no utensils. the poor food runner had to bring back the scorching hot plate for them to inspect (?) along with some utensils and black pepper that she actually forgot which is fine cause that's not rly her job food was pretty good besides the fact that i had two slices of paper-thin portuguese sausage so close to nonexistent the feds raided the place with their search party and k9 to look for it. potatoes were fire tho, so 2-stars it is.

The space felt immediately understaffed as soon as we walked in with exasperated staff and unbussed table everywhere. I got the steak and eggs plate, ordered it medium, and sadly it was just so bad. Steak was dry as a bone and tasted not fresh, like it had been sitting a while in the fridge. And the rice was completely dried out and crunchy I couldn't even chew it. Totally not worth the money. Sorry.

Love their breakfast and can't beat $10.99 restaurant vibe was pretty cool too!

Every single vacation is going to have some highs and some lows. You hope to keep the lows to a minimum and ride the high moments, without a doubt. Walking into the Kayak Cafe & dining was by far the low point of my weeklong stay in Honolulu/Waikiki. First of all, the menu presented to us at the door and by staff included many items they claimed were unavailable. French Toast on the menu, but unavailable? Broccolini Pasta on the menu, but unavailable? Strange to bring out menus with items you don't actually want people to attempt ordering? Right? They also claimed to have a beer special going on when you ordered food, $3.00 for Stella Artois drafts is a great deal -- we'd done a ton of walking and wanted food pick-me ups and drinks before we walked some more... except they brought me Bud Lite and claimed it was Stella. I can tell the skunkiness difference. I've worked in a bar. Additionally, soda syrups get low and need to be changed.. we also ordered a Coke with our food and it was (pictured) just soda water with cola color added. No flavor left. Again, I've worked in a bar and know what it looks like when it needs changing. I asked for a fresh one, and it took almost 10 minutes for them to bring back a new Coke glass... with it unchanged. Still a nearly see-through soda class with the faintest hit of cola taste, but 99% soda water taste. How? How is it possible to fail this badly across so many fronts on a main boulevard for walking and commerce in a tourist destination? I will not even dig on the service because it was also bad, but if I had to guess based on how many people we saw, they were severely understaffed for the day. Lastly, when I asked for the check, they seemed to have no clue what that meant and directed me to the front door to pay at the counter. Very bizarre, all said. If I could give zero stars, I would. Waste of time & money, avoid the Kayak Cafe.

Kayak ourselves to Kayak Cafe. We started our day with a morning breakfast at Kayak Cafe. It's located in the same building as Kan Sushi. Parking is FREE. Yup, it's not easy to find parking around Waikiki and not have to pay!! We walked down from the parking garage and walked into the restaurant. The restaurant is also split between Kan Sushi and Kayak Cafe. We were greeted by two staffs and were told to find a table. We chose a table with the city view. It was a nice and quite morning He got Kayak Morning Plate with Crispy Bacon, Portuguese Sausage, Scrambled Eggs and Fried Rice. It's plated on a nice paddle like plate in black. He paired his with affogato. The affogato is a hot espresso poured over a vanilla ice cream. It's a bit too bitter for me so I'd like two more scoops of vanilla ice cream to give a sweeter taste! ;) For me, I got their Meat Lovers Omelette with Country Potatoes. The potatoes had a nice flavor with a teeny bit of kick of spice to it. The omelette had lots of meats! The Rocky Road Latte was sweet but could have been topped with marshmallows ;) I think that would have added a nice touch to it. Overall, the cafe is cute and a perfect place for breakfast. The place provided a peaceful atmosphere to enjoy your breakfast with a family or friends or both! Our server was William and this other guy but we didn't get his name. Both were amazing with friendly smile and love that they both were taking turns to check in on us. Thank you for reading my review. Have a great weekend!

Biscuits and gravy, Wagyu Loco Moco

My Fiance and I decided to check out Kayak cafe after seeing OnFireHawaii's review on Instagram. We also looked up reviews on here and saw that it had a few negative reviews mostly dealing with bad customer service. For us the food was good and the customer service was sub par, but it mostly had to do with one of the employees. Right off the back as we walked in one of the employees who we think was the bald manager/shift lead with out greeting us told us it's gonna be a 10 min wait and walked off, immediately after another employee walked up to us and told us he had a table ready, the restaurant was pretty empty too so we were surprised when we were told we were gonna have to wait. Our waiter was named Devin I believe and he was very nice and attentive, if anything he made the experience worth it and kept us from leaving. He took our order and we waited about 15 mins for our food. It's worth mentioning that a whole table next to us ended up leaving before they even got their meal since they were waiting for so long, they were also told that they were out of steak after they had already put their order in. Their waiter was also the bal manager/shift lead and wasn't giving them the most friendly tone. We ordered the biscuits and gravy with link sausage and the wagyu Loco moco. The biscuits and gravy was great and had amazing flavor, paired with the sausage it was awesome. The wagyu loco moco was okay, the patty was pretty dry but overall the meal wasn't too bad. One last thing we noticed, Devin was speaking to another table and asking them a few questions about their day, the bald manager/shift lead then came and scolded him and told him to get back to work. I understand they were pretty busy but the restaurant wasn't even that packed. Employee's like Devin are what keep people going back to your establishment, and it just shows what kind of establishment the manager wants to run when you see something like that. So over all the energy/atmosphere in the restaurant was pretty tense and unwelcoming, mostly of the bald manager/ shift leads doing. I don't think we'd be returning anytime soon to eat at Kayak Cafe, if anything I'd probably get my biscuits and gravy to go in the future. Devin if you're reading this you are the real MVP!

We stopped in for a loco moco-super disappointed. They ran out of wagyu beef patties-which was fine, but the substitute patty was freezer burnt and lacked any flavor. My husband & I were 2 of 3 customers and we still didn't get an opportunity to refill our drinks. I'm disappointed to have tried this place out, but at least I know now. My opinion-go somewhere else...

After looking over the menu options, we stood waiting for quite a while before anyone acknowledged us or took our order. The manager seemed rude and unwelcoming, which immediately set a negative tone for the visit. Looking back we should have trusted our first impression, but we decided to give it a chance and see what the hype was about. We each ordered a slice of pizza and took it outside to eat. After eating , we walked past the glass wall of the cafe and I noticed the manager handling and mixing flour with his bare hands, with the flour mixture covering his hands and forearms. I didn't expect to see food prep without disposable gloves and it made me uncomfortable. The pizza itself didn't make up for the experience. At around $22 per slice, I was expecting something exceptional or life-changing, instead, it was pretty underwhelming. The flavor, texture, and overall quality just didn't justify the premium price. Between the unfriendly service, concerns about food handling, and the disappointing pizza, I don't feel the experience was worth the cost of overpriced slices of pizza and I will not be returning nor will I recommend Little G Cafe to others. There are plenty of other pizza spots in Honolulu, including Boston's Pizza, that offer better value and a much more welcoming atmosphere.

They have some creative other slices like vodka sauce with pesto etc which are tasty but if you're a pizza purist and lover you can't go wrong with two cheese slices. There aren't much frills so you can have water or soda from their mini fridge. Almost like going to a corner pizza place in the city. Sandwiches available sometimes. We go early for lunch on Sundays and grab a seat outside. The proprietor was especially kind and friendly to my FIL and I appreciated that. Overall this is the second best NY style pizza place after black shamrock by a small margin - the Jersey pie at shamrock with its awesome sauce and perfect crust is hard to beat but don't think you can order it by the slice. So very very close.

AYCE Pizza for under $45!…read more Visited the place on a Sunday night, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We were warmly greeted by staff, and the ambiance of the place was sophisticated but not over the top. You can choose if you like to order ala carte or AYCE. We chose the AYCE (Gourmet Pizza Experience), which gave us an option to try any of their 20+ savory pizzas and 5 sweet pizzas. The pizza slices were a bit smaller than a regular slice, which I honestly think it's a good thing if your goal is to try as much flavors as you want. The ingredients used were really fresh, which you can taste in each bite. We ordered a salad on the side to balance out all the pizza slices we had, and it was perfect. Also, you get 20% off ala carte items when you get the AYCE experience. My favorites: Savory: Honey and Brie, Four Cheese, Margherita Originale Sweet: Banana and White Chocolate Service was amazing, the staff were very attentive and they are able to get the right timing for when we're supposed to be offered a pizza flavor. Not kid-friendly, rude hostess, bland marinara…read more I was staying near this restaurant on vacation with a 3 year old toddler. For anyone who doesn't have a 3 y.o., they can be very picky eaters. Since Sao Paolo was in walking distance, I called to ask if they serve a child's portion of spaghetti and marinara, which the girl on the phone confirmed. I reiterated that I was asking about a children's portion of spaghetti and marinara, which she confirmed. I asked a third time that it would be spaghetti and plain red sauce (nothing spicy, no meat bits, etc), and got a "yes." I placed an order, waited 15 minutes and walked down there to pick it up. The hostesses were friendly and I paid $18 (plus 10% tip) for the small bowl of pasta. They asked me how my day was going, and I joked that it would be better now, since I could finally give my kid his favorite "red spaghetti." I walked back to my hotel room to feed my child, but when I opened the container, I let out a loud frustrated sigh when I saw a bowl of penne and marinara, not spaghetti. Again, this is for a TODDLER, and my toddler only eats spaghetti, not penne. In frustration, I called Sao Paulo and explained the situation. When I told the young hostess (who obviously doesn't have children) that my toddler doesn't eat penne, he only eats spaghetti, she actually laughed at me on the phone, which I found to be very rude. I told her this is not funny, that I'm desperately trying to feed my picky toddler on vacation, and that I specifically asked for spaghetti - several times - on the phone. She said she would have to consult her manager, which I found odd, because honestly, we're talking about probably 50 cents worth of pasta to this restaurant, which I paid $18 for. That's a 3,500% profit. After putting me on hold for several minutes, the hostess told me they would give me another children's portion of actual spaghetti at no extra charge. That "no extra charge" part was emphasized to me, like they're making a great sacrifice by giving me another 50 cents worth of pasta. I also looked at their kids menu online while trying to resolve the situation, and it says "perfectly cooked pasta" with marinara, NOT penne, so I don't understand their problem here. If their kids menu had said "penne" specifically, I would understand how this was my mistake, not theirs. My wife volunteered to get the replacement spaghetti and marinara because she could tell I might not be very polite to the hostess for laughing at me on the phone. She came back with a second container of... PLAIN spaghetti with NO marinara sauce, which again, my toddler would not eat. Our only solution was to rub the penne on the spaghetti to get as much marinara on it as possible. (The things parents do for their kids...) My toddler then ate some. I would estimate there was probably 10 cents worth of marinara sauce on the penne. So Sao Paolo saved themselves 10 cents by giving me dry replacement spaghetti. While all this happened, my toddler had a 30 minute meltdown in our hotel room because his dada had promised him his favorite "red spaghetti" when I first placed the order, only to get screwed by Sao Paolo twice. I believe the manager at Sao Paulo gave us dry spaghetti on purpose as a sort of f-you to us. This was a very mean-spirited thing to do to a family traveling with a young child, even if we're just a bunch of stupid haole. It was definitely not keeping with the "aloha spirit." I would remind all employees at Sao Paolo that they are supposed to practice Kokua and Lokomaika'i, even to mainlanders. If you're a parent with a picky eater child, don't count on Sao Paolo restaurant to listen to you or care about your situation. They are actively rude to and dismissive of parents traveling with young children. They will act like giving you 50 cents worth of pasta is a big deal, even if their mistake caused the whole problem in the first place. BTW, I ate the "perfectly cooked" penne. It was overcooked and mushy (the pasta fell apart while I ate it), and the "house-made" marinara was bland. It tasted like canned Chef Boyardee.

They also have a private parking lot, which is always a plus. Service was good, and they offer pizzas in addition to their pasta dishes. I ordered the Linguini Pink Scampi, which was quite tasty. The pasta was generously coated in a rich, creamy pink sauce, with several large shrimp nestled throughout. The dish was hearty and satisfying, although my only complaint was that the shrimp still had their tails attached, which made them a little inconvenient to eat. My spouse ordered the lasagna, which arrived covered in a generous layer of melted cheese and Parmesan. It looked rich and hearty, but he found it a bit too gooey, with what he felt was too much red sauce and cheese. The lasagna noodles were also overcooked, taking away from the overall texture. For dessert, I had the Affogato. The creamy vanilla gelato slowly melting beneath a shot of espresso made for a simple but enjoyable finish to the meal. The contrast between the rich coffee and sweet, cold gelato was quite nice. Overall, it was a good experience. There were a few things that could have been better, but we'd definitely consider coming back again to try some of the other dishes.
