OK I didn't realize what everyone meant by the huge portions until I got my order! I had enough katsu for two whole nights!! I stopped by here to satisfy my curry craving on a cold rainy day. I placed my order for the Chicken Katsu and it was ready within 15 minutes. As soon as I grabbed the to go bag I realized this would be a lot of food. Everything in the meal was nicely individually packaged, the katsu, curry, salad, salad dressing, miso soup, and side of pickled veggies. The katsu itself stayed crunchy by the time I got home ~10 minutes. The curry flavor was milder than what I was expecting, especially compared to some of the spots in Little Tokyo. Crunchy, tender pork, two types of equally delicious sauce, vegetables, and BIG BIG portions. Kazu Mori can be found on the left side of the HMart in Arcadia in a small food court. I've gotten the Katsu Curry from here twice (once in quarantine as a takeout meal) and I was incredibly satisfied with my meal. Let's start with the Katsu. I may have mentioned this before... but BIG PORTIONS! It doesn't look like much in the pictures but there were at least two layers of pork that spanned the width of the takeout box. The katsu coating was super crispy and light even after sitting in the car for half an hour. The pork itself is thick cut and tender. Absolutely no complaints there. Despite being labeled as a katsu curry, the meal also comes with a tonkatsu sauce which I thought was a great addition since having the variety of both sauces was really fun. The curry itself is solid - not over-salted, has garlic chips in it that are delicious, and enough to thoroughly coat everything included in the box. As for the sides, the miso soup is great, the rice was a bit overcooked an mushy but it doesn't really affect my opinion on this place, and the shredded cabbage comes with a creamy sesame dressing (a bit acidic I might add) that makes the meal more balanced. For $10.99, there's actually a lot of food packed into this meal. We ordered for pickup amidst COVID-19 chaos. It takes about 15 minutes to get there from my place and they had all 3 meals ready by the time we arrived. We each ordered something different: original katsu, spicy katsu, and katsu with curry. The original and curry katsu do not allow for meat selection, but you can choose pork or chicken for the spicy katsu. All of them come with rice, salad, miso soup, pickled onions, and sauces. They packed ours with plenty of rice and salad. And let's not forget the 3 cutlets we had per meal. What a deal! Even after the 15 minute drive back, the katsu was still crispy! They did a great job frying this and not making it oily too. The meat was still juicy inside. For the spicy katsu, it's actually the sauce that's spicy, not the katsu itself. Lets pour one for Crazy E8ght and their dumplings and fried chicken will be missed. Now that is out of the way Kazu Mori now occupies the spot where Crazy E8ght once resides. Kazu Mori is a donkatsu shop whom specializes in katsu but also offers some rice bowls. I got their spicy chicken katsu because I prefer leaner meats and I wanted to taste the heat, also they're katsu based why get anything else. The chicken katsu was crisp and I like how they put the hot sauce on the side which preserves the crunch of the katsu. You can drown it or dip it, whatever works for you it's both delicious. The spicy sauce has a bit of a kick but not overbearing where you only taste the heat that overshadows the flavor. All katsus come with cabbage salad, miso soup, rice and some japchae for a little korean touch. The sides aren't bad and my only complaint is the miso soup doesn't have any tofu and it's just raw soup. They never claim to have tofu, that's on me, I'm just used to tofu in my miso. Crazy E8ght left us but Kazu Mori is a worthy replacement in the H-Mart food court. The service is friendly, prices are fair, food is cooked to order and most importantly food taste great. Be careful drinking the miso soup in the styrofoam container it's pretty thin and mine collapsed and spilled all over me.
