We purchased a mango cake from this location today and upon cutting the cake we discovered all the mango pieces inside the filling were unripe and hard. Looks like these guys tried to cheat the customers and hid all the raw pieces of mango on the inside. What a terrible tasting cake and a such a shady practice. Great bakery for gifts. This is one of the oldest and most well known bakery brand from Hong Kong. I practically grew up with their breads and mooncake. But even though the brand is old, their designs are doing a great job with keeping up with modern times. They have a great selection of cookies and pastries packaged really nicely that you can give as gifts. They also have 喜饼 cards (basically good looking gift cards) that you can use as wedding favors. As for the everyday baked goods... Not the best or the cheapest in the neighborhood, since there are at least 3 really good bakeries nearby. But it's a good deal when they offer groupons. It is also a good place to get Hong Kong style breads like 鸡尾包 that the other bakeries in the area don't have. For parking, thw easiest thing to do is to just park on the street in front of the store. It might be easy to miss though since there is no big sign and it's not in a plaza. read more

This newly opened bakery looks clean and well organized. Although the fresh baked bread selection is a bit lacking compared to 85 degrees, this place does make up for it with their warm pastry offerings: chicken pastry puff and pork curry pastry puff. Another significant difference is this place seems to sell a lot more boxed and prepackaged goods, purposely for gifting. They have cute panda theme boxes made from metal tin material, which adds value to the goods. I came here to use a Groupon and it was well worth it. Their egg tarts are also warm and delicious, with a variety of their signature, regular, and Portuguese egg tarts ranging from $1.80-$2 each. Their breads are also decent, though I favor alternative bakeries that have fresh warm bread options. The women behind the counter are always very nice and polite. I don't know why this place has the popularity that it does, esp with the kind of competition it has in the 626 area. It's very bizarre that this place hasn't failed. Kee Wah Bakery is a delicious Hong Kong style bakery with a huge selection of pastries, coffee, and tea. It's located in an area with ample street parking (at least in the morning). The store itself is very modern looking and clean. There is limited seating available, so for the most part it seems to be more of a grab-and-go kind of place. It's a shame, because there's...free WiFi! There are a lot of sweet treats available, but the savory pastries are amazing too. I loved all of their meat pies - they are flaky and so yummy. I also enjoyed this bread they had with bacon and cheese...I don't quite remember, but you get the idea. You can't skip the egg tarts while you're here. They have three different types: traditional, Portuguese, and Kee Wah's signature. My personal favorite was the Portuguese egg tart, which has the creme brulee like top. Another notable item I tried was the GLUTEN FREE raspberry chocolate cake! I found it very difficult to discern the difference between that and an actually chocolate cake- it was just that rich and moist. As for their drinks, I tried out the UCC COFFEE, which is a Japanese style iced coffee. I am not sure what makes it different from any other iced coffee, but it was definitely quite strong and tasted good. I also tried some of my friend's CAFE MOCHA, which tasted good as well. They definitely make some quality drinks to go with the quality pastries. Everything that I tried here was very good. This location opened in April 2016 and is known for Hong Kong style bread, desserts, birthday cakes, and drinks. This newest location is different from the other 4 locations. They offer drinks such as coffee, espresso, lattes, and tea, rewards points for discounts and freebies, and a small sitting area to enjoy the freshly made drinks and bread. Also, compared to the other locations, they have a private parking lot. So it's much easier coming to this location and not worry about having a hard time finding parking. I also like that they accept credit cards. This location has a modern design and it's quite welcoming on offering more variety of bread, desserts, and drinks. They also offer Chinese New Year moon cake which are handmade in HK. The staff were super friendly and efficient in getting you in and out of the bakery. Kee Wah offers the best egg tarts. Came here on a weekday afternoon and their popular items were almost already gone. One couple lowkey seemed like they were racing me to get their items before I could take them. I still managed to nab 13 different items for about $22. Add in my free lemon tea for checking in, and I'm satisfied with how much I paid. I tried each egg tart offered, and I definitely liked the Portuguese styled one better because of its sweetness. The other two were too egg-y. Yes, I know it's an egg tart, but to me, desserts should not taste like breakfast. I tried each of their meat pies, and the bbq pork stood out as best. The fillings in the other two were a bit bland and had a mushy texture. I wouldn't necessarily get any of them again though. Next,, the standard custard bun. It was average, meaning it was exactly what I was expecting. I have yet to find an outstanding custard bun, but I have found subpar ones. I'm glad to say that this one goes on my "sure, why not?" list. It doesn't blow my mind, but I'm still going to grab it again. As for all the other buns I grabbed, you can't really go wrong with any of the pineapple buns with filling (sweet or savory). They were all delicious. The plain pineapple bun was good as well, but I tried it last so it lost its impact. I think I would have loved it if I didn't try the other ones first. Service was decent. The nice ladies asked if I needed help when I approached the cake display, but left me alone when I said I was just looking. They didn't say anything to me again until I walked up to the actual register. They worked together quickly to pack my things and cash me out. My husband can't hear or can't read her lip read how much price before he is ready to pay with his credit card. The worker is annoyed and mean to him but she acts with her finger to point at the credit card machine hurry. My husband accepted to use it without knowing how much price. Since He is very patience with that worker who is annoyed at him often.Other are friendly except her. . I hope she suggests to write a note in communication for deaf customers if happened. Great bakery! Glad I found this place. If you're looking for a good Chinese bakery this is it. This is a popular chain in Hong Kong and I'm glad I stumbled onto it in Arcadia. The buns were good. I also special ordered a mango cake for a birthday. Cake price was a little higher compared to other bakeries but not horrible. Cake was a good Chinese style sponge/angel food consistency with whipped cream frosting. Not too sweet which is what I like about Chinese bakery. However, I did think mango cake could've been a little sweeter. You could tell a lot more labor went into the cake though. It was beautiful. read more

I grew up with baked goods and desserts from Kee Wah as a kid when my mom would bring them home. Its nice to see them update their style and look with the times to be more modern and sleek. They still offer the same authentic Hong Kong goodies like "Dan Tats" (egg tarts) and "Bo Lo Bao" (pineapple bun, but not made with any sort of pineapples). This location offers drinks which is different from their other locations. I recommend the "ying yang" which is half HK Milk Tea and half coffee. Kee Wah Bakery Arcadia has a modern HK style store geared towards the younger generation. They are a Hong Kong brand that has brought its traditional pastries to the states. What makes Kee Wah Arcadia different from other Kee Wah Bakery is that you can order drinks--such as coffee, tea, latte, and espresso. Their specialty drink is their UCC coffee. Its strong like Vietnamese coffee and will definitely keep you caffeinated. There is a small seating area where you could enjoy your pastry and drink without rushing out right away. They even sell cakes, gift sets, candles, and greeting cards if you need that. I like how they offer a variety of different goodies that brought me back to my childhood of eating Chinese pastry and cookies. Some of their best are their egg tarts. They offer their traditional and Portuguese style. The egg tarts have a buttery flaky crust. If you like a lot of crust, this is the egg tart for you. I also tried their BBQ pork meat pie. I love meat pies, and the combination of meat with a buttery flaky outer crust made this the perfect breakfast item to have with my coffee. Plenty of parking could be found in the back of the building. There is an entrance in the back as well for easy access. I highly recommend checking this place out. We came here around happy hour at 3pm on Saturday and there were plenty of fresh pastries on the shelves. They also kept bringing out trays of breads as we were looking. What we ordered were the pineapple bun with butter inside and coffee combo along with an extra egg tart with the layered pastry shell. ( there were options for egg tarts made with cookie and layered pastry shell. Prices are the same for both options) Overall the pineapple bun with butter inside was impressive with the similar taste you can find in the traditional ones from Hong Kong. It was warm, crispy on the outside and moist with the cold butter inside. The egg tart was good but not outstanding. I think it needs to be a bit warmer when it's served. This is the perfect place when you need a quick gift. They have a large variety of cute cookie tins and pre-packaged boxes. They are also one of the few bakeries that actually carry Taiwanese pineapple cakes, Fènglí sū and I don't mean the poor versions you can find at the Chinese supermarkets. I always have the best experience and leave with the best goodies when I visit KeeWah. My go to are the chicken meat pies and crispy egg tarts. They have three types of egg tarts, standard, crispy, and Portuguese. Crispy is my favorite. Recently, I bought a giant bag of flour and wanted to make some bread, but found that it was near impossible to find yeast. I was so happy to find out that KeeWah was doing curbside pick ups. I was able to order everything I wanted online and then pick it up from their back parking lot. A couple of things to help you navigate when you are picking up your order... 1) the phone # listed on yelp and on the order instructions may not be working properly. It went to some automated message. Therefore, technically, how would you call to pick up curbside? 2) there's a small sign on the tree by the curb, but I couldn't see what the sign said. Perhaps they need a bigger sign. It might have given instructions, but I am not sure as another car was parked there. 3) when I was ordering online, I remember a second option. The second option was to pick up in store and to do so, you would park in the back. I proceeded to the back parking lot, dreading the idea of having to get out of the car and go inside. However, when I reached the back, I saw some KeeWah assigned parking spots. I also saw a worker near their back entrance. I decided to park. Shortly after, the worker approached me with a sign that said to provide my name and order number for pick up. He was wearing a face shield, mask, and gloves. After I gave him my information, another worker returned with all my goodies. He was wearing a mask and gloves. Thank you KeeWah. I am so happy that Kee Wah opened up in Arcadia. The parking situation at the San Gabriel location was so bad. There's a huge parking lot right behind the store, so there's plenty of parking. I love their egg tarts, especially the Portuguese egg tarts. Recommend to call first and make sure they have enough of what you want by the time you arrive there. They will keep it in a box for you aside. The employees there are nice and welcoming, unlike the other locations I've been to. They have an extensive cake selection where you can pick out cake flavors that range from fruity ones like mango and strawberry to more indulgent ones like tiramisu, coffee, or chocolate. They even do a crispy taro which has made repeat appearances at my family gatherings. The crispy taro involves layers of sweetened taro paste and crispy puff pastry sandwiched in between a spongy vanilla--delectable! As is signature of most Chinese bakeries, the whole thing is covered in a light cream and topped with an assortment of sliced fruit. Here, you'll find packaged cookies and pastries in containers that are almost too cute to discard. In true Chinese fashion, these tins have often been reused to store other (non edible) items in my parents' house.
