Friendly service, fully staffed, nice indoor and outdoor seating areas. Small parking lot. I got an iced Americano (strong and tasty) and a slice of zucchini bread (tender, actual zucchini visible and tasty). I would definitely come back to meet a friend for coffee. What a gem. We found this place and it was the first place that offered in door seating post COVID rules being lifted a bit. Not only that they served their amazing beverages in actual cups- not paper! It was magical. We have returned more than a few times to enjoy a wonderful traditional cap and pastry! My favorite spot in SE, just be aware that the line can be long, it's cold, and it can be hard to find a seat. All that said their drinks are lovely- not too sweet and perfectly frothy. The pastries are a big hit with the family and we have tried them all. read more

Drink-wise, I often go for a Mucho Caliente, the "Mushit," a mushroom-based chai invention, or a Rose Mocha. The chocolatey-ness, viscosity, mouthfeel, flavor, sippability, sweetness, always satisfy my palate, and the balance of coffee to other flavors is always to my preference. Their drinks are decadent and may take a bit longer to make than expected, and I find it is well worth the wait. I enjoy getting comfortable on Joe's very colorful red cushions, taking in the purple Egyptian vibes within and the eccentric vibrancy that is Hawthorne outside. Fun fact: Joe doesn't believe in plain old ice, and instead he freezes cubes of milk! The cubes stratify into discrete layers that are fun to crunch through, reminiscent of the layers of baklava. She let me sample a tiny amount of the strawberry uber syrup and lavender to make my decision and it helped. I ended up getting and iced lavender matcha and didn't regret it at all. It's been hard for me to find good matcha in Portland and they didn't disappoint. The syrup was blended in well. The flavor of the matcha wasn't too grassy, bitter or powdery. I'm sad it's a seasonal drink because I'll Miss it. I also got an almond croissant, which was good but not mind blowing. I think I'll try the banana bread next time. This holiday season I really wanted to find some homemade, frozen cinnamon rolls to make on Christmas morning for a special and nostalgic breakfast with my mom (without all the effort of cinnamon rolls since we weren't going to be in our home kitchen). I wasn't going to be in town during the dates that most bakeries were asking you to pick up your treats on, but Keeper came through and went above and beyond. Even though their pick up day was 12/24 I called them and asked if they could accommodate a special order on only a couple days notice and they were so sweet! The owner was very kind and emailed me baking instructions after I picked them up and they were the BEST cinnamon rolls. Thank you for the exceptional service. The interior is small, but so green and inviting and our barista was so kind! Definitely 5/5 for service. We hadn't realized that they only had alternative milks here but hey kudos for the variety and for the compostable to go cups or the option of a glass jar (with a deposit/return)! My husband got the pistachio latte with oat milk whereas I went with a classic vanilla latte with oat milk. I was intrigued by one of the milk choices which I believe was pumpkin hazelnut? Could be cool to try with a fall drink~ I will be honest about the fact that I prefer dairy for most of my drinks and can be picky about oat milk at times, but this one was good! The coffee itself had a good flavor and bless them for not making the vanilla be overbearing or too sweet. All in all a really cute coffee shop to put on your list, ESP if you prefer alternative milk options!

The Experience: I visited Golden Hour with a friend after taking a break from thrifting clothes around the Hawthorne neighborhood. What stood out: Food: I ordered the strawberry matcha latte with oatmilk. The presentation was gorgeous with layers of colors and textures. The drink was a bit sweeter than my usual taste but tasted high quality and refreshing. The crunchy strawberries on top were a yummy surprise. Ambiance: Golden Hour is quite small and sound carries. The workers talking to eachother were fairly loud. If I am in the area in the future, Golden Hour will be on my list to stop at!

I placed my order and the barista let me know about a vegan cold foam alternative. The drink was great and the matcha paired nicely with everything in the drink including pandan, coconut flakes, and vanilla. The interior was clean and there were plenty of places to sit. Lots of people hanging out in the shop, some working, some talking, but it seemed like a good spot to get some stuff done. There was music playing that set a welcoming mood. Overall, highly recommend if you enjoy flavored lattes.
