Sliced brisket sandwich with a side of chips
    Lily Z.

We hired Keith's BBQ as one of the food trucks for our conference. Service was friendly. The brisket sandwich was awesome. Fatty, not too much sauce and moist. Everything you want in a brisket sandwich. I tried Ironworks the day before and I wasn't too impressed but I decided to give Austin barbeque another try and it was delicious! Plus I love that they're on a school bus!

Second time trying out Keith's BBQ and they have redeemed themselves. It was D-Lish! Not only good BBQ but hospitality as well.

    Just look at this.

It's disgusting how good this place is. Think ravaged-your-hands-with-grease and licking-sauce-off-forever disgusting. I was about to drive off to another nearby spot in north Austin when I heard the music. In the three seconds it took me to source the music, I picked up the first hint of smoke, and all of a sudden I found myself hooked. Think Bugs-Bunny-floating-through-the-air-on-the-trail-of-carrot-soup hooked. The rest of it was really quite simple. I ordered from the off-menu option of Brisket by the pound. Got some wonderbread to go with it and stocked up on the sauce. Found a table, made a total mess of my hands, and put together marvelous slabs of Brisket Saucewiches. Visually, the sliced brisket lit up all the right colors, ranging from deep-charred brown to smoke-ring red to heart-attack fatty white. Each bite of my other helping of sandwiched chopped brisket blended all of its flavor profiles perfectly together--like a bottle of hand-prepped french perfume--with the charred topnotes and savory basenotes from the beef as well as the sweet and mildly tart heartnotes in the sauce all tempered ever so slightly by the two white wedges of carbs. I won't pretend to claim I know anything about BBQ, but heck I'd buy the truck if I could. Crushed it. 5 stars. One imaginary star on top for service. Might you guys kindly drive up to the DC area, pretty please?

Keith's Special (Brisket + Sausage Sandwich)

On the plus side, Keith's comes to my office parking lot. I don't mess with sides, and pretty much just stick to the "Keith's Special" (sandwich or wrap of brisket and sausage). So for me, it's under $10. They drive down the highway with a burning fire on-board, so that's cool. And occasionally the parking lot smells glorious. The guy at the window is always friendly. The reviews are definitely a dichotomy. I'm somewhere in the middle. In my opinion, Keith's strength is convenience, but it's certainly not the mindblowing BBQ experience that would warrant anything approaching five stars. The brisket today (chopped and sauced, instead of the usual "sliced" they had run out of) was room temp and slightly stringy, and the jalapeño sausage is clearly brought in. I'll grade it on a scale where 1 is botulism, 3 is when-HEB-sometimes-has-a-trailer-selling-sandwiches-and-sausage-wraps, 4.5 is what I lovingly make on my Big Green Egg, and 5 are the places that make Texas Monthly's list every year. 3.45 stars

Love the idea of BBQ served out of a cute renovated vintage school bus! I had the "two meat" combo in a flour tortilla. The chopped beef was okay, although a little too fatty for my taste. The sausage was the star of the show, it is very flavorful, moist and mildly spicy. Bonus points for being able to choose between a sandwich or a tortilla wrap, although if you get the wrap the tortilla ends up pretty soggy.

Ordered the Brisket Sandwich (sliced) with the yelp check in offer. The guy recommended chopped brisket but I wanted to compare Keith's brisket with Franklin's. The briskets in my sandwich were consistently good--moist but not overly fatty. Better than the bad batch but not as amazing as the on-point Franklin briskets. I wish the buns were lightly toasted and crunchy on the inside, and I wish the sandwich came with a lot more onions and pickles. Maybe even some on the side. I grabbed some BBQ sauce and I'm glad I did, since the sandwich was a little dry (brisket is moist but shy of enough, especially for sandwich, and there wasn't enough veggies). Really good sauce too!

Order was done in about 10 minutes and pickup was easy. Service overall was great really friendly and knowledgeable for questions asked. The food was delicious. Brisket sandwich had a good mix of beef and fat, crust on the outside, BBQ sauce went well along with the onions. Bread nice and soft too. Noodle Brussels had great flavor however due to the inconsistency in size they were cooked to different softness. I preferred the smaller ones as they weren't crunchy when chewing. Personal preference. Overall great venue and the ambiance was laid back with a well kept area around the order/pickup window

We were planning to try one of each taco but they had already run out of the pulled pork. They wrapped each taco individually in aluminum foil to keep it warm which was a nice touch, though they didn't bring out the red and green sauces until we asked for them. Brisket Taco ($9): The brisket was a bit dry but the slice was pretty thick and it paired well with the acidity of the pickles. Carne G Taco ($6): Super cheesy and heavy. The flavors weren't bad but I felt pretty gross after eating one and it left me really bloated.

This spot was close to my hotel, and on my departure day, I decided to have one last hit of Q. It's a big restaurant, and it appears to also be quite the music venue. When I went, a little on the early side for a Friday dinner, there was not a wait and I was sat immediately. My server was attentive, and got me in, fed, and back out in plenty of time to catch my already delayed flight. I ordered their 3 meat combo plate, which also came with two sides, and added on a piece of cornbread. I chose brisket of course, as well as turkey and sausage. The server recommended the serrano pepper spinach (like a creamed spinach) and onion rings, and I took those recs. The best of the three meats was the turkey. Not a good sign. It was moist and tender, though not particularly smokey. Even so, I enjoyed it more than the brisket and sausage, which I would have guessed the reverse when ordering. The brisket was on the dry side and kind of bland, it did not smack of being freshly carved. The Stubbs BBQ sauce helped me eat some of it... now I see why they are famous for their sauce. I had a couple bites of the sausage and pushed it aside, I didn't enjoy their recipe on that at all. It was cooked seemingly well, but the blend of spices and meat they use wasn't pleasant to me. The sides, the onion rings were very crispy which I like, but again... something in the batter. Maybe even the oil they were cooked in, I did not enjoy as much. The spinach was actually quite enjoyable, maybe even a little rich. I think if it were warmer, if might help milden out some of that. It was really thick. The cornbread wasn't worth the add-on. No sweetness or anything to make it memorable. Vessel for butter. The portion was massive, and I had leftover food, but did not take it... and that would have been the case even if I wasn't headed to the airport. I wouldn't recommend this spot.

When I tell you these ribs were a religious experience I am not embellishing. Full disclosure: I do not currently live in the south so I don't consider myself a BBQ connoisseur, but I did spend 4 years in the south and have sampled many BBQ joints in the meantime. Take this review as someone who really enjoys BBQ (and any slow cooked meat for that matter) but who could not list more than 10 BBQ restaurants they have eaten at in the last 5 years. So the beef ribs. Great texture, tender meat but still had a bite to it. Expertly seasoned so they were not wet with sauce but still moist. I would consider 1 beef rib a snack, 2 a small meal. I also tried the chopped brisket (brisket and burnt ends sitting in a soup of BBQ sauce). That was also delicious (and more reasonably priced), but I could have done with slightly less sauce. It really was like a soup and while the sauce was tasty, there was too much of it. I went later in the afternoon (around 2/2:30pm) and got their last two beef ribs so going earlier is better. For fifteen people, the total cost was $425.69. This included delivery costs and taxes, but no tip. It consisted of three meats, two sides, and a dessert along with pickles, onions, bread, and BBQ sauce. There was also a set of utensils delivered, but plates were forgotten, but not a big deal. Brisket - This was definitely the best item eaten of the day. It was tender and juicy while adding the BBQ sauce giving that extra bite. The BBQ sauce was great regardless, a little bit of sweet and smoky flavor going on. Pulled Pork - This was another solid meat choice. I did not think it was as tender as the brisket, but it was still enjoyable especially with that BBQ sauce, which was key throughout the meal. Sausage - This was not bad. The snap on this threw me off a little, but it was not too bad. They were large links and had plenty of flavor. Gouda Mac & Cheese with Smoked Bacon - This was actually penne pasta with little pieces of the bacon. I actually preferred this pasta choice here. It really soaked up the cheese sauce. The sauce was not too over powerful and was just right. Beans with Smoked Bacon - These were not too bad. I thought they were a little liquidity, but the added bacon pieces definitely helped. Banana Pudding - This came in individual cups, which was nice. The pudding was thick with a little meringue or whipped cream present and a few wafer cookies on top. It was a satisfying ending to a very good meal. Will I go back? Yes.
