This place is exactly what you think of when you hear hole in the wall. Came here for breakfast as it was the only place open near our helicopter tour at 8 am but it did not disappoint! The Kalua pig was absolutely delicious with a perfectly cooked egg and rice. I got the mini version and I think it was a good portion for a single person. Large I'm assuming would be a good option to share with another, or if you're really hungry. Food came out very quick as it sits in an industrial park which most people just stop out front pick up food and leave. There did have 1 table undercover with a few stools. Great people. Been serving the local community for 40 years, says something. In an industrial area. The lady at the window generally knows her clientele. But for a few stools outside, no seating is available. Not a tourist problem if your rental is an SUV. Just have a tailgate party. I found this place on yelp and we went there specifically for Loco Moco. It is definitely in a very industrial area but the food was great and affordable. The hotcakes were HUGE, fluffy, buttery and delicious. And the woman who was taking our order was one of the nicest people we interacted with on the island during our stay. read more

The Keoki in Lihue is a tiny "to-go" place with very limited parking and typically with long queue. They serve mainly to locals. However the Keoki in Poipu has a nice Hawaiian/tropical ambiance and good parking. Clientele is a mixture of locals and tourists (as expected since this is in Poipu). Cash only! I'm so glad we stopped here after our flight to Kauai. Keoki's is tucked away in an industrial area near the airport. We got there at 10 am aka TOO LATE for breakfast! However, we did get to taste their banana bread which was AMAZING and still warm (perfectly toasted walnuts in a sweet topping). BEST LOCO MOCO EVER!! the Uma Plate loco moco is the best I've ever had. And every one I take there says the same thing. I've tried Loco Moco on most all the islands, mostly here, and when someone suggested this place, I thought "why not?" Incredible. great people work there. Echoing Kim from Koloa, most of these reviews are for Keoki's Paradise (aka: Duke's little brother). This Keoki's is in the Lihue industrial area by the airport and the stadium. By far the best burgers on the island! I love visiting relatives here as Keoki's(this one not the one in Poipu) has moved to the top of my list displacing Hamura Saimin as my must have. Keoki's is literally a hole in the wall with one table that seats three. I ordered a short stack (2 cakes) and kimi plate. My advice when eating the short stack is get a lot of syrup. The short stack is so fluffy that the three syrup wasn't enough. I was getting full from one stack. Warning, this short stack is so big and fluffy I only could finish one cake. I only can imagine the regular stack . The kimi plate is basically scrabbled eggs with Vienna sausage mixed in alongside with fried rice. If you don't like Vienna sausage then this plate isn't for you. There's a lot of Vienna sausages. The lady at the counter is really nice. This is a great little place that is tucked in the back of an industrial building. The cashier was surprised at our order, as they said only locals tend to order the beef stew. They let us try a little bit before we finalized our order. Needless to say, the beef stew was amazing. I brought my parents here to try the food, and they loved it was well. I can't wait until I come back to Kauai, so I can stop in and get some good home cooking. We sampled most of the lunch items, and they were all great. We decided to stop here after a 6-hour flight. I ordered the steak/tripe stew and the hubby got the steak/ribs combo. My tripe stew had good flavor but the steaks were salty and dry. The ribs were also "under the heat lamp" dry. Both our rice scoops had harden bits of rice that we had to spit out. Stopped here at the recommendation of one of the gals in the Kauai food truck across the street. $3 burger is a price that can't be beaten anywhere. My friend tried the teri burger and raved about it the entire trip! I tried sesame mochi, musubi (a local sushi-like, spam specialty), and saimin (ramen style noodle dish in Hawaii). Everything was delicious, and priced reasonably. Would definitely go back and try some of the other foods here. read more
